Converting Flex classes to Flash

Hi,
I am working on a project that is implemented in Flash CS3
(AS3) but needs some utility classes previously developed in Flex2.
Are there any guidelines/libraries/etc that I can use to convert
the Flex classes to Flash. As an example, some of the core classes
of the Flex application use IUIComponent. What is the equivalent in
Flash CS3, can I somehow not change anything and, say, add the Flex
components to my Flash application.
If you have a working solution please let me know.
Best regards.

Just my opinion, but I would ask this in the Flex
forum...

  • Convert Flex Builder 3 project to Flash Builder 4.5

    My boss asked me to convert the Flex project to Flash Builder so that they can see what's going on on Tablet.
    I used this video http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adc-presents/sneak-peek-of-mobile-application-development-with-f lex-and-flash-builder/
    as my reference but found out it is not that easy.
    I have problem exporting it and the Flex codes start with <mx: Application > and when I created a Flex mobile project, the codes start with <s: Aplication >
    I don't know if I have to create a Flex mobile project.
    If I already have an existing Flex project, how can I convert it to Flash Builder 4.5 and can view on Tablet?
    Thanks a lot.

    you might google "migrating from Flex 3 to Flex 4".  there are a few articles and videos about it...
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flexbuilder3_to_flashbuilder4.html
    It is easy, but can be time consuming to move from mx to spark.
    If your boss just wants to see his web app on a Tablet, I'd first suggest using the tablet's Browser.  As long as it supports Flash 10.1+ (not iOS), you should be fine, assuming your UI fits in the typically 1024x600+ resolution screen.  If so, It is easier to convert a Flex 3 web app to a Flex 4 web app, than it is to convert it to a mobile app.
    If he wants it on a iPad, then you are forced to create a Mobile Project.
    Hope this helps.

  • Workflow for creating Flex components in Flash CS5 needs work

    Am I missing something? I thought things were supposed to be easier.
    I'm creating an AIR application for a client with heavy embedded video.
    I have chewed up days on trying to get stuff to work, mostly creating a graphics heavy component that I can use in the AIR (Flex) app.
    Just clicking the magic "Convert Symbol to Flex Component" command won't do it if you have created your own .as class for the symbol, because it won't compile unless you extend the UIMovieClip class. Good luck trying to find it in the namespace.
    After hours I found where to download the Flex Component Kit that contains the swc that gives you the UIMovieClip class.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1273 018#
    Notice the title of the page:  Flex Component Kit Alpha for Flex 2.0.1
    Shouldn't the need for this kit be ancient history? Shouldn't that swc be built in to the new SDK's and/or Flash Builder 4?
    Make my living on Adobe products, and love them, but this is sloppy. No documentation. No walk-throughs. Have burned many hours that I can't charge the client for because it make me look incompetent.
    Creating a Flex component in Flash with extended functionality SHOULD be a no brainer.

    I managed to get it work at the end...
    First, the components directory was at this location:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CS5\en_US\Configuration\Components
    Then, to make a component out of a MovieClip, right click on the MovieClip in the library and select "Component Definition" and check the checkbox "Display in Components Panel". What I did then was to right click on the MovieClip and selected export swc file, and saved it in the directory above. This exported only one Component, which was fine for me. Probably it would be possible to do something similar to save a library of components as a .fla or .scw or so, but I don't know the details.

  • Using Flex Code in Flash

    Hi everyone,
    I really hope you can help me with this. Here's my
    situation...
    I've developed a flex application that connects to another
    java application using "BlazeDS". It works great!! The reason why I
    did this is because I'm developing (along with a Flash designer) a
    website of a music band, and I use java to connect to a database
    that has all the "gigs", news and subscribers to the website.
    Everything works great in Flex, my problem is I'm not a
    designer, I'm a developer. So I wanted to know if there's a way I
    can just give my designer friend a code so he can use it in Flash
    CS3?? (Like to send him objects containing the info. For example,
    give him a concerts object that contains the date and the location
    so he can build the datagrids for the concerts page in Flash)
    I think there must be a way to use Flex libraries in CS3, or
    maybe create some kind of Flex class that will work as a
    "communication interface" between the database and the flash code,
    I'm really not sure...
    In other words, I need to know how can my designer friend use
    (in Flash) what I've developed in Flex.
    Please let me know if there's a way...
    Just in case you need to know, I use Flex's Eclipse plug in
    (it's easier for me this way cause I have java and flex in the same
    place!)
    Thanks!!!!!!

    No need then to use the LocalConnection. In a listener
    function (add a listener function for the complete event of the
    SWFLoader) you can retrieve a reference to the loaded swf and get
    the two values from the swf if they are public and on frame 1 of
    the main timeline.
    private function onSWFLoaded():void
    //retrieve a reference to the loaded swf
    var loadedSWF:MovieClip = logn.content as MovieClip;
    <mx:SWFLoader autoLoad="true" id="logn" source="main.swf"
    horizontalCenter="8" verticalCenter="185" height="364" width="588"
    complete="onSWFLoaded()"></mx:SWFLoader>

  • Using a swf generated by Flex from a Flash component

    I know you can include and control a swf generated by Flash
    within a Flex component. But can you do the inverse? Can you use a
    swf generated by Flex within a Flash project/component?
    We plan to develop a "core" module that would be used in a
    lot of other Flash and Flex components we'll develop in the future.
    This core would be a package of classes that could be easily
    re-used by the components. There would be nothing visual in it,
    only standard classes.
    Even if this core would not contain any visual components, we
    would like to develop it using Flex since we prefere Flex Builder
    to the Flash editor to code and debug.
    But I'm not sure if:
    1) A core module like this, developped in Flex, could be used
    by our Flash components or only by other Flex components?
    2) If we use Flex to generated this core, will the resulting
    .swf be bigger than if we would have used Flash to develop it?
    Since there will be no Flex visual components in it, maybe it will
    be as small? Is there a compiler parameter to tell Flex to only
    include the minimum things possible in the generated .swf?
    Any help or link about this would be really appreciated!
    Thanks you in advance!
    P.S. I apologize to those aware that this message was also
    posted on another Flex related forum, but I received no reply on
    it!

    try this. for me it has worked.
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var timer:Timer;
    var myclip:MovieClip;
    //load the Flex Component
    loader.load(new URLRequest("IS.swf"));
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,
    loaderDone);
    addChild(loader);
    function loaderDone(e:Event) {
    timer = new Timer(100);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, handleTimer)
    timer.start();
    function handleTimer(event:TimerEvent):void {
    //cast the loader.content into MovieClip to access
    currentFrame.
    myclip = loader.content as MovieClip;
    if (myclip.currentFrame == 2)
    however, i need to access properties of IS.mxml..
    any data member would work..
    or if i could dispatch an event in IS.mxml and catch it in
    flash through IS.swf, it would work.
    Pls somebody suggest.

  • Importing Flex project into Flash CS5 for use with iPhone packager? Please Help.

    Hi all,
    I have been developing an application in Flex builder for the iPhone using the iPhone packager, where I've been using the Flex framework.
    Now I'm stuck at trying to use my existing libraries in Flash. It seems I can't add the UI components I used in Flex (class VideoExample) to the default Flash container. I need someone's help who has experience with that.
    I have created a .SWC file, but when I'm trying to add the container in Flash using addChild(new VideoExample) it doesn't work. I can't load the .SWF externally using loader.load() at runtime, because the application is for iPhone. Any solutions how could I import the project to Flash?
    I was thinking about changing the UI components classes from mx.* to fl.*, but I would have to change many code and I'm not sure if it would even work, and I don't want to loose compatibility with mxml.
    Please respond, help would be very much appreciated!
    Here's my mxml wrapper, from which I start the main application:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" applicationComplete="EntryPoint.main()">
    </mx:Application>
    Then I have a class which creates the main container:
    package {
    import mx.core.*;
    public class EntryPoint {
        public static function main():void {
            var client:VideoExample = new VideoExample();
            var mxmlApp:Application = Application(Application.application);
            mxmlApp.addChild(client);
    Here is the main class VideoExample:
    package {
    import mx.controls.*;
    import mx.containers.*;
    public class VideoExample extends Canvas {
        public function VideoExample() {
            super();
            init();
            private function init():void {
            loadImage();
            loadText();
                    loadDisplay();
                    startConnection();

  • ExternalInterface enhancements in Flex vs. Flash

    Does anyone know if the ExternalInterface capabilities have
    been enhanced
    in Action Script 3 vs. 2.?
    For example, the following is located in the HTML page:
    <script>
    function getFlvList() {
    var flv_array = new Array(0,1,2);
    return flv_array;
    </script>
    In Flex, I use the following ActionScript:
    FLVs = ExternalInterface.call("getFlvList");
    myLabel.text = FLVs[0].toString();
    The label text becomes: 0 as I would expect...
    However in Flash 8 Pro using the following:
    var flv2_array:Array =
    Array(ExternalInterface.call("getFlvList"));
    myLabel.text = flv2_array[0];
    The label text becomes: 0,1,2 as if the array hasn't been
    passed
    properly.
    Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

    For many animations, Flash is the way to go, and then use SWFLoader to bring it into a Flex app.
    If you know OOP and Flex, learning Flash is just putting in the time to read a few books, view online tutorials, and practice, practice, practice.
    If you are in the USA, Foothill College in California has a great online class on Flash:
    http://www.foothillglobalaccess.org/register/Winter/CAST052AMASSALSKI.html
    The class was great when I took it, but unfortuntely the instructor died a few years back. Its a shame because he was a great instructor and a very nice guy.

  • Cannot convert type class java.lang.String to class oracle.jbo.domain.Clob

    Cannot convert type class java.lang.String to class oracle.jbo.domain.ClobDomain.
    Using ADF Business Components I have a JSFF page fragment with an ADF form based on a table with has a column of type CLOB. The data is retrieved from the database and displayed correctly but when any field is changed and submitted the above error occurs. I have just used the drag and drop technique to create the ADF form with a submit button, am I missing a step?
    I am using the production release of Jdeveloper11G

    Reproduced and filed bug# 7487124
    The workaround is to add a custom converter class to your ViewController project like this
    package oow2008.view;
    import javax.faces.application.FacesMessage;
    import javax.faces.component.UIComponent;
    import javax.faces.context.FacesContext;
    import javax.faces.convert.Converter;
    import javax.faces.convert.ConverterException;
    import oracle.jbo.domain.ClobDomain;
    import oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException;
    public class ClobConverter implements Converter {
         public Object getAsObject(FacesContext facesContext,
                                   UIComponent uIComponent,
                                   String string) {
           try {
             return string != null ? new ClobDomain(string) : null;
           } catch (DataCreationException dce) {
             dce.setAppendCodes(false);
             FacesMessage fm =
               new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR,
                                "Invalid Clob Value",
                                dce.getMessage());
             throw new ConverterException(fm);
         public String getAsString(FacesContext facesContext,
                                   UIComponent uIComponent,
                                   Object object) {
           return object != null ?
                  object.toString() :
                  null;
    }then to register the converter in faces-config.xml like this
    <faces-config version="1.2" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee">
      <application>
        <default-render-kit-id>oracle.adf.rich</default-render-kit-id>
      </application>
      <converter>
        <converter-id>clobConverter</converter-id>
        <converter-class>oow2008.view.ClobConverter</converter-class>
      </converter>
    </faces-config>then reference this converter in the field for the ClobDomain value like this
              <af:inputText value="#{bindings.Description.inputValue}"
                            label="#{bindings.Description.hints.label}"
                            required="#{bindings.Description.hints.mandatory}"
                            columns="40"
                            maximumLength="#{bindings.Description.hints.precision}"
                            shortDesc="#{bindings.Description.hints.tooltip}"
                            wrap="soft" rows="10">
                <f:validator binding="#{bindings.Description.validator}"/>
                <f:converter converterId="clobConverter"/>
              </af:inputText>

  • How to convert a class file to exe file and how to cteate a class file to d

    how to convert a class file to exe file

    Hi Bhaskarq,
    Hi,
    It is not at all possible.
    But it is a really worst method.
    Please go through it.
    This is a very common question asked in the comp.lang.java newsgroup. Its often useful to have an
    executable application when deploying your
    applications to a specific platform, but remember to
    make your .class files available for users running
    Unix/Macintosh/other platforms.
    Microsoft provide a free system development kit (SDK),
    for Java, which includes the jexegen tool. This
    will convert class files into a .EXE form. The only
    disadvantage is that users need a Microsoft Java
    Virtual Machine (JVM) installed. If your target
    platform is Win32, you can either redistribute the
    virtual
    machine, or raise the level of your system
    requirements, to include Windows 98, or Windows 95
    with
    Internet Explorer 4. Systems matching these
    requirements will already have a copy of the Microsoft
    Java Virtual Machine installed.
    Note : You must specify all of the class files your
    application needs (except for standard java packges)
    as a parameter, so if you have third party libraries,
    you'll need to include them as well. You can use wildcards * though, and you don't need the original source code.
    Also please see this Forum which will give a good idea
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=149733
    I hope this will help you.
