Converting Forms4.5 (*.fmt) to Forms6i (*.fmb)

I have over 200 forms 4.5 that are in fmt format. I need to convert them to forms 6i in fmb format. I don't want to convert each one manually. Is there a way to convert them in a batch?
Trinh

In forms 6i you can do this by using the command line version of the form's compiler. The command line would look as follows:
ifcmp60 userid=user/passwd module=forms_file.fmt Batch=YES Help=NO Logon=YES Module_Access=FILE Options_Screen=NO Statistics=NO window_state=Minimize Compile_all=YES Parse=YES
You will need to write a command script (a .bat for windows or shell script for unix) to processes each of your files.

I just installed 10g developer suite and am opening Forms Builder and I am using the Convert function, converting a from FMT to a FMB, and when I select the file and hit the convert button, Forms Builder crashes almost instantly saying Oracle Forms Designed has encountered a problem and needs to close.

  • Convert FMB to XML File on Unix

    Hello,
I want to convert a FMB-File to XML in my HP-UX-Middletier-Environment.The Script frm2xml.sh is only shipped with IDS.
Can someone upload the frmf2xml.sh from a linux or Solaris IDS-Enviroment?
    Robert

So if we were to keep text-based source files, the process would have to be:
    - check-out to local working copy
      - convert XML to FMB
        - make changes using Forms Developer
      - convert FMB to XML
    - commit to svn
I'm concerned about the side-effects of the conversion process (edge-cases, incompatibilities), and I also expect that even with some automation, the above will be a pretty slow process that will slow the team down. I guess we'll probably stick with fmb.
I guess as a compromise, it may be worthwhile generating the xml or fmt alongside the fmb and committing both. At least we'd then have a text-based file to compare revisions with. So the process then becomes:
    - check-out to local working copy
      - make changes using Forms Developer
      - generate XML from FMB
    - commit both to svn
I'm still baffled as to why Oracle has chosen a binary source format, even 15 years ago. This basically precludes a vast number of tools and techniques that are essential to the software craft :(

  • Unable to open form6(fmb) in forms6i

Hi I have a forms6 fmb file and would like to convert it to forms6i
What do I do?How do i do it?
    Please help
    Thanks

Is this regarding a EBS form? If so, you should ask in the EBS forums. There are so many restrictions and special circumstances for creating a custom form for Applications that you should ask this question in the Apps Forum (http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=3). People here might or might not have any experience with this. In the Apps Forums they definitely do.

  • Converting and combining files to scale

I am trying to combine files for a pattern I am selling. The converter correctly sizes the word document to 8.5 x 11" but the pattern pieces with the drawings show up as much larger, like 11 x 15", so that when you try to print them to scale (100%) , it cuts off part of the pattern pieces. How can I fix this issue? I have already tried 4 times, and I have sold three of the patterns, not knowing it was doing this, so I have to correct it so I can resend the corrected pattern to the buyers!!! Help!!

    Hi,
You can save these files in a FMT "text format" using menu
    File ---> Administration -->Convert,
but The FMT format is not designed to be readable, then I have no idea what is the purpose of this file exists.
    >>What is the best way to control version of this files on a CVS server ?
Version control ? For what ? You cannot read the contents of this file (FMT).
For me, FMT and FMB files as the same thing when you perform a import on your CVS server, maybe FMB is better, because is smaller then FMT.
    Cheers

  • Stripping CR (^M) character to compile in Unix

I have a large set of fmb files that compile and work in Win2K, I WinZip them and FTP the zip file in binary mode to an Unix server. Unzipped and compile most of the fmb into fmx except for 10 fmb files. They give this error:
    error 801 at line 1, column 1
    internal error [1401]
Unless the whole procedure is removed it will not compile. We managed to identify the culprit with unix vi editor as ^M being left at the end of each line in the file.
It seems that something went wrong in the Win2K to Unix file transfer. I tried several workarounds without sucess.
While at Unix: convert fmb to fmt files then fmt back to fmb, it will not even open the file.
While at Win2K, convert fmb to fmt, zip, ftp in binary to unix, unzip, convert back fmt to fmb, then compile and the same problem. Also, opened fmt files with TextPad, saved as DOS file, zipped, FTP the zip file (also tried individually), tried to convert fmt to fmb but it would not even open the file.
There are many other fmb files that worked fine but I am stock on these. Search and replace using vi would not be practical.
Does anyone know of a practical way to strip this hidden character on the windows side so that I will not go through this in the next release ?
Or, at this point I take a workaround so that I may deliver.
    Thank you.

    Hi Nutan,
It seems UNIX treats the end of line differently than other operating systems.
One way could be removing the ^M in the file before PI processes.
    a suggested way it here

  • Menu Not Found during Runtime

    Dear Colleague,
My customer attempted to run the new version of the Oracle 9i Forms application that I developed for him. He successfully started the initial form, but the referenced menu file within the initial form is not found. There is no path included in the reference to the menu module within the property sheet, only the file name of the menu.
Currently, the MMX-file is in the same directory as the initial FMX-file that references the MMX-file.
Which parameter or configuration file must one change for the menu file to be found and used within the context of Oracle 9i AS?
    Best regards,
    Randy

If you're running a Unix/Linux server; please keep in mind filenames are case-sensitive! So if in the FMB a menu is attached with the name "MyMenu" and you have MYMENU.MMX on the filesystem it will not be found! You can check what the filename is in the FMB by converting it to FMT.

  • Conversion from DEV/2000 to DEVELOPER 6

Can someone direct me to documentation for Developer 6.0? We're trying to determine what it will to take to convert from Dev/2000 to Devloper 6.0.
Has anyone converted from Forms 5.0 to Forms 6 and Reports 3.0 to Reports 6? If so, what were your pitfalls? How much effort did it take to convert?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
There isn't any great different between forms5.0 and forms6.0. According to Oracle Corp. Forms 6.0 is 90% Forms5.0 and 10% other features like LOV wizard etc.
There must be specific reason for converting.
Otherwise Forms 5.0 is good enough.
For converting from Forms5.0 to Forms6.0 simply open the forms 5.0 source file (*.fmb) in Forms Builder 6.0 and re-compile.( latest patch for Developer 6.0 is Patch 6a.) U have to re-compile each and every form. Same is applicable for Reports6 .
Open the Reports 3.0 *.rdf file in Reports Builder 6.0 and re-compile.
    Thats it. Very simple.
Oracle Developer 6 documentation is available On-Line on the CD itself.
    Hope this helps.
