Copy previous mail in reply in Messaging

When replying to email in Messaging, anyone found a way to have the mail being responded to auttomatically copied into the reply as Outlook and many web clients do?

Messaging app originally not supposed to do it.  All Android devices  uses emails, and not messaging for emails.  I do not own a D2, but when I owned my Cliq it was just nice added feature that messaging showed emails in it as well.  I believe it was convenient to have everything put into one app.  Sure it would be nice to have it do what you want.  Best option is to send a enhancement request to Motorola, and if there is enough requests they may implement something.

Can anyone tell me where I need to go to do "out of the office message" or "auto reply". Im using mac.com on my email. Is it on mac.com or in the mail somewhere? Thanks

Go to Mail>Help and type Reply in the query box. Then select "sending replies automatically" but read the entire explanation so you are aware of the hazards. By logging on my ISP website I can set up this function. The one from my ISP works well so you might want to look into that option if your ISP provides it.

  • Can I use Mail to reply Hotmail messages through Gmail?

    I have Hotmail and Gmail.
Hotmail is my main account that I use for general things on the web. I have it since 95 and I don't want to terminate it.
I have Mac Mail and Hotmail POP3 does not sync well with it. It does with Gmail.
My question is. Can I fetch emails from Hotmail with Gmail on my Mac Mail and when I reply the recipient sees it as Hotmail email instead of Gmail email? Does that make sense?
I want people to receive a Hotmail email, even though I am using Gmail to fetch it on my Mail app.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Do you have an email account provided by your ISP, that is POP perhaps? If so, then depending on the policies of your ISP, you may be able to add the Hotmail address to the email address address entries for that POP account, and with the SMTP of your ISP, send from the Hotmail address. Many ISP provided SMTP do not restrict the From address you use, so long as the account with is active (usable).
    More info, please.

How long has it been going on? I've had my yahoo mess up and if i wait a bit it resolves itself. Yahoo is doing something with their servers and it messes with your mail if your mail happens to be on one of those servers.

  • Avoid "mailto:"-part when copying an e-mail address from a message?

I do a lot of copying e-mail addresses from within an e-mail message, during my day. It's annoying that "mailto:" is automatically added to the e-mail address when placed in the clipboard, as if you just paste it into a new e-mail, as "mailto:[email protected]", then Apple Mail will complain about the e-mail message.
I just right click on an e-mail address within a message and select the "copy" option (I don't know what it is in english, "copy link", perhaps?).

If you are talking about an address in a received mail the easy way to do it is to click the star to the right of the senders email as it displays in the Message Pane or Tab header.
If the sender is not in one of your address books the star is not filled with color. Clicking the empty star will add it to the default Personal Address Book and fill the star with color.
Clicking a filled star will open the contact edit dialog box and there is a drop down list of address books so you can move it.
This is NOT the same star that shows to the left of a message header in the Inbox window.
You can also drag and drop contacts between address books easily.

Tunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • How can I stop Mail from replicating a message & trying to send?

A few days ago I tried to send out an email with three attachments which totaled over 53 megs. Of course it was too large for the server and I recieved bounce back that the message could not be sent. I then created two seperate messages with the attachments at appropriate sizes. I have multiple email accounts and didn't tink anything of the event other than "I should have checked before sending..."
The next day I started getting the system warnings that there was no available space on my hard drive. The previous day I had over 5 gigs of available space.
After researching a few options I noticed the Mail application was having trouble sending an recieveing from one of the four accounts. Then I spotted the culprit - the account was trying to send out the mail with the 53 meg attachment. It was replicating and storing the message and attachment in the "On My Mac" saved mail folders as "Recovered Mail". It had replicated 100 times - 5 gigs worth. The message was not in my Outbox or Sent mail folders.
When accessing the newly created "Recovered Mail" folder and trying to delete the specific messages the application would crash. The work around was to delete the folder. Howver, the next day the folder re-appered and began populating the hard drive with duplicate files.
    - Have tried virus scan (Norton AntiVirus) and using Norton Firewall to lock down all drive to internet traffic (annoying with block / allow mesages).
    - Have tried deleting the account and re-creating it.
After a few hours or a day the dreaded "Recovered Mail" file was back and hogging drive space.
The account is accessible from my iPhone and through web browsers with no issues. I can't even find the offending message and attachment. So I suspect there is a bug / corruption in Mail.
    HELP!
need to know how to fix it or if I have a new virus.
    Thanks!

    Is this an IMAP account?
If so, delete the messages in Mail from all folders and quit Mail.
Go the the website and clear the messages from all folders there.
Reopen Mail and verify the messages have been deleted for all folders.

How can I DISABLE the pop up 'Would you like to copy it to Library', preventing this message from bothering for each and every book, again and again , time after time? (Windows 7 64bit US).
I guess this may be a feature request. Adobe may think this is a good message for every new eBook.
I sure would like to decide about that myself.
Thanks in advance if this will be changed.

Decided to setup the mail for exchange on my N8 so I could see my work emails. Worked like a charm but after a couple of hours decided I didn't like being that contactable so deleted the mailbox.
Now to the problem, during setup I was forced to enable the phone lock and had to pick a 7 digit alphanumeric code. Fair enough I thought and went ahead. When I removed the mailbox however the lock remained in place with the default auto time of 30 minutes. When I checked in Phone management there is no option to disable this lock so I thought I could at least change the default time to something bigger but when you try, it remains at 30 mins. You also can't disable the auto time as it pops up an error message saying can't unlock phone.
Does anyone know if I'm missing something obvious here or is this something which can't be disabled once it's switched on? I've done a soft reset back to factory settings with no luck and the only other thing I can think of is re installing the firmware which seems a bit extreme.
Would like to hope there is some way to have control over this. Can someone help?
Which firmware your N8 having now? You can check firmware by choosing Call, then type *#0000#.
My N8 works fine on security setting and able to define Phone auto lock period, by choosing Menu>Settings>Phone>Phone management>Security settings>Phone and SIM card>Phone auto lock period>User defined>Lock after(minutes)
You will prompt to enter Lock code each time u define auto lock priod or enable/disable auto lock.
    Hope this can help you.

  • Mail sending Reply, but not saving reply in thread.

Over the past week an entirely new problem has cropped up.
When I send a reply to somebody, once in a while the reply message I send does not show up in the thread.
It seems like it goes out... making the mail out swoosh sound, but there is no message that gets tacked to the replied to message.
The reply does not show up in sent messages, drafts, or recovered messages.
There simply is no record of my replies.
This doesn't happen with every message so it is sporadic.
Some of the messages seem to go out because people reply that they received the message when I start a new message asking about it.
    Others seem to have disappeared.
I am wondering if this is happening with others.
It seems to have happened since the last mail upgrade which I think happened in the last week or few weeks if I remember correctly.
Because of this I think I need to abandon mail and use the web interfaces for my mail programs which seem to be functioning correctly.
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
None of my mail settings has changed.
None of my mail preferences or passwords has been changed in any way.
One day it was working.... then replying became a hit or miss as to whether I could see it after I sent it and possibly whether other people received my reply or not.

Thanks for discovering this issue being connected to drafts. I have trouble with this for a couple of months as well.
Since you assume it to be connected to "drafts", I suggest to deselect "Store draft messages on the server" for your IMAP-Account. I just did this for myself, to see if it helps, and can't give you results yet. Maybe you just wanna try simultaneously. I guess, the reason for our problem could me some messy communication between Mail and the server, where one party get's confused.
    Greetings

  • How to modify Mail's reply attributionline

Due to the need to track who receives what email in a long email chaing, I need to have the standard reply attribution which Mail does not currently provide.
Through a series of online bulletin boards, and a little bit of searching, I found the file:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/
    Message.framework/Versions/B/Resources/
    English.lproj/Delayed.strings
However, I am unable to figure out how to edit it such that Mail will insert the standard sort of reply attribution. e.g.:
    —–Original Message—–-
    From: name
    Sent: day, date, time
To: recipent 1; recipient 2; etc.
Cc: cc recipent 1; cc recipient 2; etc.
    Subject: subject
I can get as far as the first two lines, but I can’t figure out how to get the “to” “cc” and “subject fields to work. Any ideas?

When I use MS Entourage or a similar email program, when I reply to a message the information immediately preceeding the mesage to which I am replying contains the header information from that message. I.e.:
    —–Original Message—–-
    From: name of sender
    Sent: day, date, time
To: recipent 1; recipient 2; etc.
Cc: cc recipent 1; cc recipient 2; etc.
    Subject: subject
Mail.app does not do this. Instead Mail just says "On DATE, SENDER wrote" or something to that effect.
This makes it impossible to tell from the email string who has received each message and response in the string.
I am trying to figure out how to make Mail do what Entourage and Outlook do automatically.
Incidently, if I Forward the message, Mail does exactly what I want it to do: it says who sent he orriginal, to whom it was sent, the date it was sent and the subject line. All I want is for this same information to be included when I Reply to messages.

  • "Copy All Mail To:" sends 2 copies of each e-mail

I am working on enabling an archive of all e-mail on our small business' 10.6.8 e-mail server.  I was thrilled to find the "Copy All Mail To:" option in Server Admin.  I setup an archive account, and entered it in the copy all mail to section of server admin. The problem I am having is that this setting is sending 2 copies of each e-mail the system processes to the e-mail address I specify.
I have found several discussions saying the fix for this is to add the following line to /etc/postfix/main.cf
    receiveoverrideoptions = noaddressmappings
I have successfully added this to my main.cf (made a backup first) also successfully issued the "sudo postfix reload" command afterwards.
But still I am seeing 2 of each incoming and outgoing message relayed to my Archive e-mail address.  Any ideas on what I am missing?
    Thanks,
    Blake

    Try...
    receive_override_options = no_address_mappings
Personally, I put this in the master.cf file. As an addition to the existing no_header_body_checks so (probably last line in file) looks like...
    127.0.0.1:10025 inet n  -       y       -       -       smtpd
      <other stuff here>
       -o receive_override_options=no_header_body_checks,no_address_mappings
DOn't know which location would be preferred though.

  • Mail Udate? Import Messages?  Mail is all messed up!

Today I logged into my Mac and tried to read my mail like I always do at 8am, and I was prompted by a screen saying similar to "Welcome to Mac Mail in Tiger, Mail needs to import your messages before you may use mail. Click Okay to continue"
Not like I had an option, I clicked Okay, assuming Mail must have done an auto update during the night or something. I get another screen talking about the great new features of Mail. I checked my Software Update history in System Prefs and saw no new mail updates.
Once it was done importing all my messages mail opened and downloaed my usual batch of 100 or so spam messages, which interestingly enough were dumped in my normal in box - I've got rules that usually sort these messgaes out. Further interesting was my Junk bag was missing. Like Mail no longer did Junk filtering?
Also, I looked in my message Rules and saw the long list of rules I've put togehter to filter the junk mail was blank. No rules.
I checked the forum here and didn't see anyone else talking about Mail updates, so figured something freaky must have happened to my computer.
Also interesting, the program "Backup" which I installed off the Apple site last week was waiting to run - seemed in process of kicking off a backup when I tried to open mail.
I then noticed inside my Mail folder "MessageRules.plist.backup" with a create date of yesterday, and another file "MessageRules.plist" with a create date of today. Like the program "Backup" did this.
So I swapped the "backup" files back manually, also the file "Envelope Index" had a duplicate the same way "Envelope Index-1". So I swapped those back.
I shut down and re-started Mail and sure enough, my Junk mail folder is back, my rules are back, everything looks fine.... EXCEPT....
Every single message (of thousands) in my in box has an itallic line saying "The message from {Sender} concerning {Subject line} has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    What's up with that??
I manually open my mail folders where all the messages are stored with the .emix extension and double click a few - they open right up, so the message are still there but for some reason the email index thinks they're missing?
Can anyone shed some light on this? Any help? What a mess.
    Thanks!

Sounds like something went afoul with Envelope Index file which is the file that keeps an index of all messages in all mailboxes.
All Mail.app rules including the Junk Mail rules are stored in the MessageRules.plist file and sounds like something went afoul with this file also and I'm not sure why since I've never experienced the same with either.
So I swapped the "backup" files back manually, also the
file "Envelope Index" had a duplicate the same way "Envelope Index-1".
    So I swapped those back.
Since it seems something went wrong with the Envelope Index file and a new file was created, I suggest the following which should take care of this problem also.
"The message from {Sender} concerning {Subject line} has not
been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account
online in order to download it."
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Delete the Envelope Index and if still available, the Envelope Index-1 file and empty the Trash,
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all mailboxes again. Select OK and allow the import process to complete. This isn't really importing anything but replacing the deleted Envelope Index file and reindexing all messages in all mailboxes.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • Signatures on Replied to Messages

I finally figured out how to add a signature to my messages but apparently it only applies to those messages I originate and not to those that I reply to.  Any idea if there is a way to add a signature to replied to messages?

I tapped the e-mail Icon and then went to account settings and there's a signature line.  If you tap that, it brings up a space that you can put in a signature, however, it only seems to add it to those messages that you originally compose on the droid and not the ones that you reply to.
