Copying console output into *.txt files

Basically, I am having trouble creating *.txt files and copying System.out.println(" data "); into these *.txt files. I've tried FileInputStream and FileOutputStream, but these haven't worked. I've also tried doing this on both Unix and Windows environments.
Can anyone help?

Hi,
If you want to do this from within your program you'll need to redirect the system output:
System.setOut (new PrintStream((OutputStream) new FileOutputStream ("C:/test.txt")));
System.out.println ("test ok");
Kurt.

  • Background processing of S_ALR_87013558 report with output in txt file

    Dear Friend's,
    Here I have a requirement of, to execute standard report S_ALR_87013558 (Budget/Actual/Commitment/Rem Plan/Assigned) in background processing mode. Here we have to run this report in background on daily basis at a particular given time.
    Once this report gets executed in background, output of this report should get converted automatically into txt file and this converted txt file must be downloaded in a respective folder automatically by giving desired path.
    After completion of this process, downloaded txt file they have to use for internal MIS reporting purpose.
    Is this possible via standard PS or else I have to go for the development.Please suggest, what should be the approach?

  • How to convert Oracle reports previewer output into delimited file.

    How to convert Oracle reports previewer output into delimited file if the report has more than 1000 pages.
    I tried with previewer option File --> Generate to file --> Delimited file, but the report engine is crashing.Not generating .TXT file.
    I observed that this option is not working for more than 400 pages.
    I am using Oracle reports 6i version.
    Plz suggest me to generate .TXT file from Report previewer.

    You can specify a delimiter (a character or string of characters) to separate the data (boilerplate or field objects) in your report output in either of the following ways:
    On the command line using the DELIMITER keyword.
    In the Delimited Output dialog box or DelimitedData Output dialog box (displayed with File > Generate to File > Delimited or File > Generate to File > DelimitedData) in Reports Builder.

  • Split XSLT Output into Multiple Files

    I have an XML-to-File scenario working, but now I need to split my XSLT map output into multiple files based on the data.  I have been reading the Jin Shin blog on message splitting, but don't know that it pertains to my situation.
    XML data getting mapped with XSLT map creates output formatted like this.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <ns1:ColdInvoiceData xmlns:ns1="http://graybar.com/cold/invoice">
    <Header>
      <RecordID>HDR</RecordID>
      <InvoiceNumber>15</InvoiceNumber>
    </Header>
    <Details>
      <RecordID>DTL</RecordID>
      <LineItemNumber>001</LineItemNumber>
      <UnitPrice>1.25</UnitPrice>
    </Details>
    <Details>
      <RecordID>DTL</RecordID>
      <LineItemNumber>002</LineItemNumber>
      <UnitPrice>2.22</UnitPrice>
    </Details>
    <Header>
      <RecordID>HDR</RecordID>
      <InvoiceNumber>16</InvoiceNumber>
    </Header>
    <Details>
      <RecordID>DTL</RecordID>
      <LineItemNumber>001</LineItemNumber>
      <UnitPrice>3.33</UnitPrice>
    </Details>
    </ns1:ColdInvoiceData>
    I currently have this output writing to a file (FTP, File Conversion).  A single file is no issue, but I need to send multiple files for every set of HDR/DTL(s).  I also need to put the invoice number in the filename (which is working fine as a parameter in my single FTP File CC now).
    Can I make this happen with message splitting and maybe a second map (GUI map)?  Do I need to adjust the XSLT output XML format to have an invoice level?  Is there a better way to go?
    Thanks!

    I made a change to the namespace used on the Messages/Message1 nodes (since the system-assigned ns0 was already being used in my xml data) and now I am getting output.
    The problem is that the output matches my input.  As aforementioned, I started with just a one-to-one mapping on every node and field.
    When I change the mapping to try to force multiple ColdInvoiceData nodes, I get the following error (when my source has two Invoice nodes):
    <Trace level="1" type="T">com.sap.aii.utilxi.misc.api.BaseRuntimeException: RuntimeException in Message-Mapping transformation: Cannot produce target element /ns0:Messages/ns0:Message1/ns1:ColdInvoiceData[2]/Invoice. Check xml instance is valid for source xsd and target-field mapping fulfills requirements of target xsd at
    When my source has one invoice node, it works ok.
    Here is a screenshot of my mapping structure.

    If you think a file doesn't exists when you think it should, you can use code like this to print out what files are there:
    import java.io.*;
    public class Periscope {
        public static void check(File file) {
            if (file.exists()) {
                System.out.println("file exists: " + getPath(file));
                System.out.println();
                System.out.println("DUMP:");
                System.out.println();
                dump(file, "");
            } else {
                System.out.println("file does not exist: " + getPath(file));
                goUp(file);
        static void goUp(File file) {
            File parent = file.getAbsoluteFile().getParentFile();
            if (parent == null) {
                System.out.println("file does not have a parent: " + getPath(file));
            } else {
                check(parent);
        static void dump(File file, String indent) {
            System.out.println(indent + getPath(file));
            File[] children = file.listFiles();
            if (children != null) {
                indent += "    ";
                for(File child : children) {
                    dump(child, indent);
        static String getPath(File file) {
            try {
                return file.getCanonicalPath();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
                return file.getName();
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            check(new File("foo.bar"));

  • Copy contents of a txt file into a transport request

    I am implementing the steps of the 990534 note.
    The note says "Create a new transport request (transaction SE09) in the source client of your Solution Manager system. Unpack file SOLMAN40_MOPZ_TTYP_SLMO_000.zip, which is attached to this note. Copy the contents of the SOLMAN40_MOPZ_TTYP_SLMO_000.txt file into the transport request."
    can anyone tell me how can I copy the contents of a txt file into a transport request?

    Hello,
    I don't know the OSS note, but I think they mean, that you have to go into the object list of your transport (in transaction SE09), switch to change mode and insert the objects from the text file.
    I guess the text file looks like:
    R3TR PROG xyz
    R3TR TABL abc

  • How to export report output into excel file

    hi friends,
    i would like to get the solution from you for how to export the report output into a .xls file. i know how to convert it into .rtf and .txt files but i think it's difficult to do this .xls way, could you help me to comeover this problem?
    thankyou very much.

    The official answer is "delimited", which
    generates adequate comma or other delimited
    text. No formatting, and without extra
    effort no support for non-ASCII characters.
    Might be sufficient for you.
    Note that Excel can read html files - we
    built programs to generate html files with
    name of "blah.xls" and some Excel-ish
    extensions, so Excel is automatically opened
    and the document is all nice and pretty.
    (Oracle html output has some odd logic about
    choosing number of columns, we didn't use
    it.)

  • How to copy terminal output into clipboard

    Good morning.
    Sorry for posting this topic in mavericks, but there is no standard software part...
    Ok.
    I use the screen command in terminal to communicate with a serial interface.
    The problem is, when the output is too long I can't see the beginning of ot , because screen only writes at the screen size of terminal and the user is not able to scroll above ... if u try this, u'll see earlier history of terminal.
    It would be helpful to copy an output to the clipboard so I can paste it in vim, gedit, pages,... whatever.
    I tried:
    <command> |xclip
    <command> |pbcopy
    but both commands weren't found and have not worked yet.
    Who can help me? :-)
    Thanks in advance.

    When you in a 'screen' sesssion, everything you type is going to the serial port you are controlling, so normal Mac OS X commands are not going to apply, including pbcopy.  If the serial device you are talking to is another Mac, then at best you would be telling that Mac to put the output into its paste buffer, which will not do you any good on your Mac.
    The fact that you found <command> | less works, implies that your serial port is connected to a Unix type system.
    Accourding to "man screen", screen has its own scrollback history buffer.
    It also has the ability to log screen output to a screen.<n> file where <n> is the screen number.
    Once you have something in a log file on your Mac, you can then extract the information using any utilitiy you want (nano, vim, gedit, pages, cat, grep, awk, perl, etc...), including pbcopy if that is the way you want to go.
    NOTE:  While I've used screen years ago, my use was very minimum and I never became all that good at it.  My initial use was to preserve sessions when comm-lines were unreliable and screen would let me reconnect and continue the existing session, but they were not so unreliable that I spent that much time using screen.

  • Insert line break into .txt file

    Alright, so I am writing out to a simple .txt file, and I
    need to force a line break in it. My immediate thought is to use
    "\n" as that is a line break. So, I write it out to the text file,
    and instead of a line break, I see the "complex character" symbol
    (you know, that square that shows up with unknown characters). I
    have tried the various ASCII values to no avail, tried \r, even
    tried copy-pasting a line break in from notepad. Nothing seems to
    be working for me. How do I do this?
    _logFile = "\n";
    stream = new FileStream();
    stream.open(file,FileMode.WRITE);
    stream.writeUTFBytes(_logFile);
    stream.close();

    in windows use "\r\n"
    i.e. _logFile = "\r\n";

  • Write array into txt file

    Hi Guys!
    I need a VI which writes the content of an array into a txt file.
    I have an array like this:
    Peti    Teri
    Zoli    Hajni
    Tomi    Heni
    Pali    Robi
    In the file the first line should be a full timestamp (date, time), and then would come the content of the array. The name of the file would also be a timestamp.
    Thank you for your help in advance!

    Hi Victronica and welcome to NI Forums!
    If you have some custom data, then it is up to ou to tell excel how to interpret said data (what information to put where, etc.) A simple solution would be to flatten your cluster elements into strings, and write those strings into an excel sheet using ActiveX. An example on how to write a table of strings is available in the example finder, and I also have it attached here in LabVIEW 2013.
