Thats tricky because you didn't know if the visitor is able
to see the pdf file
but you can do this on a apache server while using this code
inside a .htaccess file
DirectoryIndex your_pdf.pdf
never tested this because it makes no sense.

PDF is searchable with FoxIt but not in Adobe Reader X. Exact same .PDF file is loaded. Why?

I have been trying to figure out why my .PDF file was not searchable in Adobe Reader X. I downloaded and installed FoxIt PDF software to see if it was a problem only in Adobe Reader X and to my amazement it was Adobe Reader X that is the failure. But why? Does anyone else experience this issue. That is, loading .PDF files that are not searchable in Adobe Reader X but work perfectly fine in FoxIt?

Pdf file not loading to website

I created a newsletter in pages, saved it as a pdf and emailed it to our web person. They have a pc with microsoft windows. They can open the document & read it just fine, but can't get it to upload to the website. Has anyone else come across this problem going from mac to pc? If I save the document as an rtf or word doc all the formatting becomes messed up. Is there something else I should be doing?

Welcome to the forum.
A .pdf file is like any other file, it needs to be saved to a location on the server which is referred to by an .url or .html reference in the website code.
Both tasks are elementary. Get your "web person" to clarify what they think is not going right.

If i try my form in PDF Preview my demo data will be insert into my pdf-form - if i then save my form and opens it in reader nothing happens why?

Did you take back up of original PDF document? If you have the back up copy, then you can easily restore your corrupted PDF file. If not, then a good solution

Pdf files not loading

I have some PDF files that are not loading. I am loading them from a PDF file, and the links are a full path to the file. Open: http://www.starkhealth.org/nursing/reproductive.pdf. At the bottom, you can click on any 4 of the links. The pages load into a blank screen and appear to be loading but nothing happens.
Also I have some PDF files that contain external links to other sites. Some work and some do not. That is really strange!
The files/links that I am referring to work fine in IE.
Any help would be appreciated. I have always loved Firefox, but recently I am seeing that IE seems to work across the board much better. But, the bottom line I still need Firefox to be able to navigate my site.

I do believe these files were generated using Publisher. Good point. So, if the files were created using something other than Publisher (maybe Word), then converted, do you think that would fix the problem? Maybe a design program like Photoshop, then converted to PDF would solve the problem.
Now could you explain what you mean about disabling Optimization? Where would I do that?
I did not create the files, as they were sent to me from my client. I have even tried saving the PDF as an image and making it into a HTML file, then hot link the files. Same results.
i have tried all the other browsers and they do not have any problems at all. That is what is so strange about all of this.
When I try to select another program to read the files, it only gives me Adobe Acrobat, not Reader. And to have the general public have to adjust their browser to read the files, would not be acceptable. The only thing I could do would put a disclaimer on the front page to tell viewers to use another browser. I'll bet my client would LOVE that!

Cannot get PDF files to load on the iPad Mini from iTunes!

Cannot get PDF to load on the iPad Mini through iTunes (latest version). I could easily do this on the iPod Touch. So what is missing?

I solved my problem. It turns out the default in iTunes is NO Sync for books or podcasts. Once I turned that on I had success. That wording should be included in the explanation on how to transfer PDF files to the iPad.

How a PDF file gets loaded on browser if it is large in size?

I had a BHO of IE made in C#.
Through this I want to know the Information of PDF file that is loaded on IE when we try to open a pdf link.
For example if we click a link http://mca.gov.in/MinistryWebsite/dca/help/efiling/NewFormsFees.pdf and the PDF file NewFormsfees.pdf is of 1.5MB,
the PDF is obtained as packet by packet (like, intially some 20kb, then again updating the intail 20kb file with next 20kb or 30kb until it reaches total 1.5MB), as this file can be obtained in temporary internet files folder, actually I want to know what the process was going on?
How the PDF file is viewed in Internet Explorer?
Can't we get the reference of that PDF file which is opened on browser through C# programming. If so, how can I get that?

Not sure I see the problem. The file only needs to be in one place, you can link between folders.

Missing .pdf file when loading template

Hey everybody,
I just switched from a PC to a Mac and found Pages pretty cool. I'm running the trial and made a few templates based on the business letter template that was included with the pre-installed Pages 2 on my MacBook. When opening my template I end up with a window showing me an error message that the file "businesscircle_logosgray.pdf" is missing. My template then opens up correctly but the error message is showing up every time I open it. When I copy its contents into an empty document and save it to another template it works 2 - 3 times but then I get the same error. The business letter template opens perfectly without any errors.
Is there any way to solve that problem?

That sounds strange. businesscircle_logosgray.pdf is the spiral image above the word "Company" in the template. I assume you deleted it, when you made your own templates. It is supposed to be a place holder to replace with another image.
I would probably try recreating your new template and keep the image just in case. You could also try creating a new blank template and paste everything from the business template except that image. Hope you manage to sort it out.

PDF files stop loading and won't open until I click scroll bar?

I’ve tried this on 5 different computers running XP and Windows 7 and it does the same thing every time. I click on Page 3-7 or 15-17 and it starts to load and then stops. As you can see on the first screen below it stopped loading at 37kb of a 615kb file. On the second picture below, I clicked the mouse on the vertical scroll bar and the page appeared.
Any ideas to the mystery?

When you uninstall firefox, do you go to the control panel and in C:/ProgramFiles/(delete mozilla firefox)? Or only one of the two options?Try.

No worries. Of course. I am using Windows, Word 7, and the PDF I have is probably 2 years old. I was trying to find the example for you to translate. having trouble logging in to my system. Would it be easier if i could send you that document? i really appreciate your help. MY computer crashed, andI thought I had a back up, but not really except for on my computer. Adobe flash player and reading pdf files.

     I've recently been having issues with Safari reading online pdf files and loading up sites using adobe flash player.
     I've somehow tracked down a temporary solve by going into Safari's "preferences", then the security tab.
     Where it shows "internet plug-ins" I have it checked so it can load adobe flash. But when it comes to reading pdf files (adobe reader)
     I have to uncheck "internet plug ins". So in turn I can read the pdfs, but not use adobe flash player.
     There seems to be a conflict between the adobe reader and flash player that I can use both at the same time.
     Any suggestions on how to correct this issue?
     Here's a screenshot of what I have. And if I have to delete one of these plug-ins how can I do this as I don't see any options to do so.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

PDF File from an internal table data

I have an internal table ready for grid display of a report. But according to the new requirement, it shouldn't create a Spool request as it is affecting the performance of the system (because its a huge file with 3000+ pages).
So, now we want to create a (non-editable) PDF File and store it in an application server.
From the forum, i see that i have only one option, which is to Convert internal table data to OTF Format and then to PDF.
Right now i am using PRINT_TEXT to convert to OTF file and FM CONVERT_OTF for PDF file.
The challenges i am facing right now is..
1. After getting the OTF file from PRINT_TEXT, i couldn't get the correct PDF File. It shows random characters instead..
2. My internal table has 103 columns. So how should i accommodate data from all these columns into a single row on a PDF?
3. I couldn't create a table kind of view/display in PDF
Please help/advice me on the above issue.

Hi,
103 columns need to be seen in at least 7 pages or more. Cant display in just 1 page.
I guess that better to create a smartforms and pass all the information from the table to the smartforms.
There you can create multipages.
Probably, that huge table need to separete it in 7 tables, so each page will get the information from one table...
i will try to do sth like that.

How to remove password-encryption in a signed PDF file?

I can open a password-encryption and digitally signed PDF file using Acrobat X Standard but cannot remove the password protection.
Can anyone help me remove the password encryption? The Acrobat only allows to set passsord encryption before adding digital signature to a PDF file. Can I sign a PDF file and then encrypt it with password? Thanks.

Removing the security, if it is possible, would destroy the signature.
Encrypting a signed PDF would destroy the signature.
This is because signatures validate the file exactly as it is, and changes to the file break the signature by design. Setting security is a change to the PDF (a big change).

Problem reading pdf files, they are incomplete, garbled

I cannot read or download correctly pdf files. They appear garbled, illegible and incomplete both on screen and when trying to print them.

I have found a somewhat lengthy solution:
First open the problem pdf file with Foxit.
Then save it as the same name file in the same place, overwriting the original file.
Now open the new file with Adobe Reader and the problem has gone.
The problem of missing letters when copying text has gone too.
I have no idea why this works.
I would still like to learn of a better solution.
