Costing for Alternative Parts

Dear Expert,
There is a requirement for costing run with BOM which contains alternative parts.
For example, in CA01, BOM is maintain as such,
Part A which is quantity 1 pcs, alternative item group B, priority 1, usage probability 50%
Part A-1 which is quantity 1 pcs, alternative item group B, priority 1, usage probability 50%
when explode the BOM using CS12 and during running of backflush,
Part A shows 0.5 pcs
Part A-1 shows 0.5 pcs
However, for cost estimate,
Part A shows 1 pcs with cost RM 1
Part A-1 shows 1 pcs with cost RM 1.5
and the cost had been encounter twice (total = RM 2.5) where this is incorrect.
It should be as following:
Part A shows 0.5 pcs with cost RM 1
Part A-1 shows 0.5 pcs with cost RM 1.5
and total cost = RM 1.25
I had searched through the forum, most of the forums recommend on mixed costing.
However, this will require to maintain 2 BOM, 2 production version and some configurations.
Is there any other way to run 1 cost estimate which is able to pick up the ratio just like backflush?

Hi
Did you think of maintaining the BOM itself as 0.5 Qty for A and 0.5 qty of A1 and hence no need to maintain the usage probability of 50% separately?
I am thinking of other options for you.... Mixed costing is one option, which I guess you are not interested in
Let me think of other options too
I tried just now as below and it worked
1. CS01 - Double clicked on the BOM Items
2. Maintained Alt Item Group as B, and entered Priority =1, Usage = 50% and Strategy = 1..
3. I saved the BOM.. Now I can see Alt Item Group B in the components screen of CS02 against the component
After that I executed CK11N.. It picked up the cost in 50-50 ratio as expected

• How to setup MM costing and drive for new parts before ECM release key is triggered?

Hi,
I am on the engineering side of SAP ERP where I create new materials, BOMs, etc. We do this with a change master without release key today. We are switching to a more controlled/managed process for engineering changes where we will use change masters with a release key and approval workflows for these tasks (ECM). The problem we are seeing is that the supply chain side of the business is not able to perform their tasks of costing materials and driving for new parts until the ECM workflows are complete, release key is active, and the changes are valid for production. There must be a way for supply chain to perform these tasks beforehand, so that when the release key becomes active, material costing is complete, new materials are already on hand (or at least been ordered), so that the process of procurement/production orders are not delayed. Can you point me to documentation that provides an overview, or summarizes what the best practices are for our supply chain when we start working with ECM release keys?
Thanks,
Joseph

the release key allows you to release the change for specific business functions. Please look at the options available in release key configuration. You will need multiple release keys to bring the changes in a more controlled manner.

• Production costs for material with price control V

Dear all,
Can anyone pls tell me, how will the costing occur for a material produced in-house and having price control 'V' ? I am not able to see the target costs.
Also kindly tell me the settings to be done in CO, like target cost version, valuation variant, costing variant, etc.
Thank you,
Shrenik

Rather than giving my own versions I have compiled here SAP inputs. Pl let me know if you require any clarifications:
Costing variant has the following components:
Define Costing Types
Define Valuation Variants
Define Date Control
Define Quantity Structure Control
Define Transfer Strategy
Define Reference Variants
Costing type:
In the costing type, you define the purpose of a material cost estimate by specifying, for example, which field in the material master record the costing results can be transferred to:
Update Cost Estimate
Standard price Standard cost estimate (01)
Tax-based price Inventory cost estimate
Commercial price Inventory cost estimate
Price other than std price Modified standard cost estimate or
current cost estimate
No update Any cost estimate
Define Valuation Variants:
Define Valuation Variants
Here you create a valuation variant containing the parameters required for valuation of a cost estimate.
You also specify which costing sheet should be used to calculate overhead.
Valuation Strategies
Material valuation
Here you define the sequence in which the system searches for prices from the accounting view or costing view of the material master record to valuate materials. You can also access prices from purchasing info records and condition types.
For material cost estimates, you also specify whether additive costs can be added to the selected price.
With configurable/configured material components and with procurement alternatives, the sequence defined here is ignored if the strategy "price from purchasing info record" was selected, in which case that strategy is always executed first. For more information, refer to the SAP Library in the component Product Cost Planning under Raw Material Costing or Mixed Costing.
Activity Types / Processes
Here you define the sequence in which the system searches for prices in activity type planning or actual activity price calculation in Cost Center Accounting or Activity-Based Costing to valuate the utilized activity types and business processes.
You also specify which plan/actual version is used.
Subcontracting
Here you define the sequence in which the system searches for prices in the purchasing info record. In purchasing, quota arrangements are used to create a mixed price for materials that are manufactured with external vendors with parts provided by the customer. You can specify whether the quota of the individual vendors that are entered in the source list for the material to be processed should be determined through the planned quota arrangement or the actual quota arrangement.
External processing
Here you define the sequence in which the system searches for prices in the purchasing info record or routing operation for valuation of the external activities.
Strategy Sequence
You define the individual valuation methods for the valuation variant as strategy sequences. For the valuation of the material components you define a strategy sequence that reads the fields of the material master record in a particular sequence such as:
1. Planned price 1
2. Standard price
3. Moving price
The first price that is not zero is used to valuate the material component.
Target versions:
Target cost versions are used in the following ways:
In variance calculation:
To control which variance (total variance, production variances or planning variance) is calculated
To valuate unplanned scrap( scrap variance)
Unplanned scrap is valuated in the period-end closing activities when the variances are calculated. You can specify in a valuation variant for WIP and scrap which cost estimate you want to use to calculate the target costs for the valuation of unplanned scrap. You assign the valuation variant to target cost version 0 if you want to include it in the valuation of scrap.
When you are using a cost object hierarchy with active distribution, you use the target cost version to control which cost estimate the system uses to calculate the target costs, which are used as the basis for determining equivalences for actual cost distribution.
The actual costs collected at the level of the hierarchy are distributed across the orders in accordance with these equivalences. This distribution is proportional to the target costs for the cost element under which the actual costs are written. Actual costs for material costs are distributed in proportion to the target costs for the origin group, such as for the material, if you have entered an origin group in the costing view of the material master record and have set the indicator Material origin, for example.
If no target costs were calculated under this cost element, enter a cost element group in the target cost version. The actual costs are distributed in proportion to the target costs for this cost element group. This cost element group should be complete. If costs were updated under a cost element that is not in this cost element group, no distribution is possible.
You can calculate equivalences on the basis of SAP standard target cost versions 0, 1 and 3.
The standard system supplies the following target cost versions:
Target cost version 0 ( total variance)
The amount of the total variance generates a posting in Financial Accounting during settlement.
For this version, select actual costs as the control costs and standard cost estimate as the target costs.
Target cost version 1 ( production variance)
For this version you choose actual costs as the control costs and planned costs as the target costs.
Target cost version 2( planning variance)
With target cost version 2, the costs from the preliminary order cost estimate are interpreted as control costs.
For this version, select planned costs as the control costs and current cost estimate as the target costs. You cannot calculate planning variances for the product cost collector.
Target cost version 3 (production variance of the period)
You compare the planned costs of the period calculated on the basis of an alternative material cost estimate (such as a modified standard cost estimate) with the actual costs of the period on the basis of the yield delivered to stock in the period.
The base quantity for variance calculation is the yield.
For this version, you choose the actual costs as the control costs and the alternative material cost estimate as the target costs. To determine the alternative material cost estimate, enter a costing variant and choose a costing version.
The target cost version specifies which data is to be compared. The target cost version also specifies which variance variant is used and therefore which variance catagories are calculated. You can define a different target cost version for each controlling area

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.

• PR to be made for Spare Part

Hi All,
Standard PR:- 1500005005 is created for spare parts . Since the value of the PR is very high that is 60000 Euro it should not be in-ward to cost center. It should be in-ward to the inventory. At the time of consumption only cost center posting should happen. Since its spare part it cannot be an Asset PR.
Which way PR can be made. (Account Assignment Category K - cost center & A - Asset is not suitable). Can this be done with out selecting any Account Assignment Category for this scenario?
Help me out in resolving the client issue.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
sapuser

Hi All,
Material type:- FHMI - Prod. resources/tools. Both Qty & Value is flaged again's the plant.
So for this PR without K - Cost Center & A - Asset in A/c ***. Catg it will be left (blank). Update it in this way for PR.
After the GR is being Cleared then while doing the Invoice post updated the cost center. Hope this will resolve the problem

• In standard cost estimate the cost of alternative items flowing in full

Hi,
when i calculate the standard cost estimate in repetitiv manufacturing the
complete cost of all alternative items in alternative group is flowing to it.
how to restrict it
thanks in advance
regards
madan

Solution
1. make one of the materail in BOM, as not releavent to costing....depeding on which alternative is better to get the correct std cost
2. Use stargergy 1 usage probnability may be 50% and 50% for alternatives...depending on usage of that material.

• ADDDITIVE COST FOR PRODUCT COST BY SALES ORDER SCENARIO.

Dear friends,
We are using costing for sales order & we have maintained the costing variant under the path IMG> Controlling> Product Cost Controlling> cost object controlling> Product cost by sales order >premliminary costing & order based costing>product costing for sales order costing>Costing variant for Product costing >Check costing variant for product costing.
Under this we have maintained the Costing variant, Now we need to have Additive cost. But didnt found the tab in the costing variant where as when we check in T.code OKKN which is a part of Product cost planning we can find the Additive cost tab.
How to run addtive costing run for Product cost by sales order scenario & please guide me with one example.
Or else is there any configuration where we can assign standard costing variant PPC1 instead of Costing variant SOC1 ( which is a costing variant of Product cost by sales order.
Please guide me
regards,
Sandeep

Hi Sandeep,
You may please try using Unit Costing for Sale Order.
It is over an above the sale order costing you have done. So in case you want to post any additional known cost, you may do the unit costing for the sale order after the sale order costing.
Trust this helps

• How Can i Book cost for the rectification of damaged materials??

Dear Sir,
Need Your Suggestion regarding settlement of cost for the damaged parts.
We had supplied One assembly to Client with single invoice. During transportation One of the part of that assembly get damaged. Client has sent back only that part back for the repairing and accept rest of the materials.
Which procedure should i follow for the rectification of that damaged parts in SAP and How can i book the cost of the required materials and labour??
Thanks,
Rajnil K Kalola

Hi Rajnil,
You need to do CO11N confirmation of rework order. Since settlement profile is entered as orginal production order all the cost incurred on rework order will get settled to the orginal order. Even if orginal production order is TECO Technically completed you can post cost. Once order is CLSD Closed you cannot post any cost.
Refer the below Help for more details on Returns.

Hi Rajani
This part returned treated as non valuated stock, as you can't value it as this part of full machine? is it right? or can you identify the Product cost? then value based on it or bought out product then take back with same price as return from Customer? .the addtional rectification/repair cost may treat over head or add to the cost of the part, in case you can sell at higher price.Discuss with MM/PP team and proceed .

• BOM alternative part

We maintain usage in alternative part as below.
Main sourcer : A usage 40
Alternative part B usage 30
Alternative part C usage 30
Create one production order , quantity 169 SET
requirement qty A =68 EA ( 169 * 0.4 = 67.6 , rounding to 68 )
B = 51EA ( 169 * 0.3 = 50.7 , rounding to 51 )
C = 51 EA( 169 * 0.3 = 50.7 , rounding to 51 )
Total requirement qty = 170 , it is over 1 EA .
Could anyone tell me how to solve it?
Thanks very much.

Do the total of your component quantity,,
A (68) + B (51) + C (51) = 171.
Total quantity for any order get calculated this way only.
And let it be to be done this way (it is done dueto rounding) hence it is safer as per the best practises.
But even if you want it to be not rounding of, increase the field "Decimal pl. rounding (No. of decimal places to which rounding should be performe)" for the UOM "EA" in trx CUNI.

• COSTING FOR THE WATER:

Hai gurus,
Currently I am planning to put my BOM for the whisky as two part one is blended whisky and another Is packing material. (For discussion sake, actually it is one BOM only)
The packing material consists of Bottles, caps, labels, carton boxes.
The blended whisky consists of Rectified spirit/water/color/Ageing whisky and Flavor.
Now I planned to Put the Blended whisky BOM only with Rectified spirit and water only as the Composition of Color /Ageing whisky/Flavor is very less and also it is maintained as trade secret.
So BOM for 700ML Blended whisky will be approximately 350ML Rectified spirit/300ML of water and remaining 50ML consist of Color/Ageing whisky and Flavor.
So we are avoiding this 50 ML and creating BOM for 700ML blended whisky as 350ML Rectified spirit and 350ML water. The cost of 50ML of color /Ageing whisky and Flavor is added in the OH cost.
So now my problem is how to add the cost of water as the water is got from their own well and it is Treated and added with Rectified spirit. They have the costing for conversion from ordinary Water to treated water, if that is the case how to add water in the BOM without creating any requirement as an item and costing for the same.
waiting for the positive reply.
regards,
sekar chand

Dear Sekar,
Check whether this can help you.
1.Issue to Cost center using 201 movement,on monthly basis by creating one specific cost center for this posting.
2.If you want this to be reflected under product cost, you may have to add water as a component and also it's quantity and
check.
3.Assigning a overhead group and capturing as overhead cost.

• Costing for Subcontracting

Hi Experts,
I have a scenario where the business procure spare parts and then send to a subcontractor for assembling and pays the subcontractor an assembling fee.
I am not so clear how the costing should happen for the finished good we receive from the subcontractor. Highly appreciate if someone can enlighten me in this regard.
Thanks in advance.
Em Jay

Hi Em Jay
If the final finished good is always assembled by the subcontractor, you dont need costing for it
Option 1
Simply put the Price control as V. The cost of spare parts + Assembling fee will become the Valuation for the FG material
Option 2
If you wanna have this FG at Price control S, then you need a BOM for the FG Material in which Spare part should be the component
Material master of FG will have Spl Procurement Key as 30 in MRP View
Tick the "With Qty Structure" check box in Costing View
You need to maintain info record for Sub Con Charges for the FG material
Now, when you run CK11N, it will take cost of BOM Components + Sub Con Charges = Std cost of FG
The Sub Con charges must be there in OBYC: FRL and in your Cost Component Stryucture in OKTZ
