Course Content Type

Hello All,
We are trying to create Course Types with Delivery Method - Web Based Training. I am not able to create the Course Type as the system asks me for <b>Content Type</b>. I have searched the IMG to find the same, no luck.
Where do we create Content Type? Is this in AE? We have not yet set up AE.
Is there a way to create Content Type if we do not use Authoring Environment.
Please let me know. Highly appreciate any input.

I am new to LSO and just need help in creating content type for wbt course type.
Please help me.
issue is:when i create the course type"wbt" via transaction "pvd0" i have to give the content type(mandatory),but since there is no content type in the system i cant select anything form f4.
Please guide me on this.

Content type, list definition and List instance - query

Dear all,
I created a list content type, list definition and list instance for a SessionsList.
I did mistake when created a event receiver file where field name is RegistrationsInfo - did typo error as RegistrationInfo. This field I want to make it as false in the ShowInNewForm= false
When I deploy it with event receiver file - I am getting stack trace error stating that the RegistrationsInfo field is missing.
Without event receiver file - when I deploy the solution and checked the field name - it is showing rightly as RegistrationsInfo.

Can somebody help me - how to overcome the RegistrationsInfo missing field - error(in the stack trace) when activating the feature in the training site?

Hi Sathya,
Seems the field “RegistrationsInfo” is not been found when deploying with Event Receiver, a possible reason is that it might be damaged.
As a workaround, I suggest you retract the solution from your farm, make sure the “RegistrationsInfo” field is deleted using PowerShell, then create another project with the same
content and perform the deployment again.

How to create an External Content Type with SQL Stored Procedures Parameters and query it in a SharePoint App

Hi,
I'm new to SharePoint 2013 I want to be able to query a MSSQL database from a SharePoint App I have tried to create an External Content Type (ECT) which is produced from a MSSQL stored Procedure, this procedure has several parameters which are needed to
filter the data correctly. From here I want to produce an external list which I can then query from a c# SharePoint app. If I leave the filters in the ECT null then the list is of course empty or if enter a default values the results are limited
for the app to query so are no good.
I want to dynamically pass values to the ECT when querying from the app, is this not possible. Should I just be returning everything in an external list and then letting the query in the app filter the data, this seems inefficient?
Is this the best way to do this or should I be doing this differently?
Please can someone point me in the right direction.

When you create a the external content type, please try to add a filter based on your select statement.

Is this statement that causes the exception? "Response response = call.invoke(endPoint, "");"
If so you might be able to catch the SOAPException and interogate the response variable - surround the call with a try, catch block and within the catch you can get the MimeHeaders and check "Content-Type" If it's "text/html" then you know it not a SOAP message so don't use the SOAP api calls.
It sounds like the web service is offline and the web server is trying to send you an HTML error page which of course is not a SOAP message and so a SOAPException is thrown.

DeliveryException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/HTML

My scenario is RFC -> XI -> SOAP (synchronous), but when I test this scenario, I got the error message "DeliveryException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/HTML", I search the document and change it following this blog: /people/varadharajan.krishnasamy/blog/2007/01/09/troubleshooting-soap-message--xi
1. I add a MessageTransformBean module before the original one
2. I add a transform key, the value is text/html;charset=utf-8
But when I active this channel and test again, I got another message:
XIAdapter/HTTP/ADAPTER.HTTP_EXCEPTION-HTTP 400 Bad Request.
I only find one discussion about it but I still have no idea how to solve the problem. Do I need to change my mapping ? And when field should I generated in the mapping?

How to delete course content (LSO - WBT Training)

I need to know how I can physically delete course content out of the KM without ruining anything in the portal or in the SAP tables. You can mark it as 'obsolete' via the Repository Explorer (right click on the content and you will see the option.) This means it is not available for re-use or for use in a Course Type.
I have a vendor requirement to physically remove the content from servers and I fear that simply marking it obsolete it will not be sufficient.

I was given this bit of information from our LSO implementation partner and these were the steps that were executed. We have tested and at this time this seems to be the best approach.
1. Mark content as obsolete in the AE
2. Access the content folder from the WEBDAV URL, and delete the content from the server.
3. Either mark corresponding course type in the Master Data Catalog to not display on the internet or delimit the course type ( do not delete).

HELP: Extended Attributes Not Appearing In Instances of Custom Content Type

From Java code I create a custom content type derived from Document and define some extended attributes with default values for that type. All done using the same methodology shown in the Developer's Guide and Oracle example code.
I start ifsmgr and I can indeed see the content type and the extended attributes.
If I however create an instance of this (custom) type, either from the Viewer (file Upload) or from Java code (using code simuilar to createDocument from the Oracle ContentModule example), the extended attributes do not appear!
BUT, if I delete one of the extended attributes using ifsmgr (highlight one of my extened attributes, click on "Remove", and then "Apply"), from that point on the previously missing extended attributes appear (except for the one I deleted of course) when I create files of the custom type from either Java code or the Viewer. Furthermore, once I get ifs to "see" one of these extended attributes in this manner, I can delete the extended attribute and re-create it from Java at will and it will appear in created instances of my custom content type just fine.
If however I add another new extended attribute to the custom content type, I have to do the "Remove/Apply" drill in ifsmgr to get this new attribute to appear in created files of my custom type.
I've tried deleting all instances of the custom type and closing both ifsmgr and the Viewer, but unless I delete one of the extended attributes from ifsmgr I cannot get new extended attributes to appear.
What do I need to do in my 9ifs Java code to get new custom content extended attributes to appear in instances of that custom type?

Max number of content types per list/library

What is the maximum number of content types for a list or library?
I read a thread on this forum where they talk about a maximum of 2000 content types per library for SP 2013:

Content Types

So here is my scenario. We are a small business (3 people) who develop learning content and want to use a SP doc library to manage it.
Our hierarchy of content is as follows:
Curriculum 1
     ----> Course 1
            -----> Lesson 1
            -----> Lesson 2
    -----> Course 2
            ------> Lesson 3
           ------> Lesson 4
Curriculum 2 with courses and lessons and so on...
Our document is a Lesson. Lessons are used in courses. Courses are used in a Curriculum.
My though was that I could use Content Types for Courses that will contain all Course Names and the same for Curriculum for all Curriculum names as it will it a lot easier as we add more and more Lessons to the document Library.
But never having used content types before I am not sure how to do that. I know where the Content Types are added but I don't know how to add the data to the content types and then attach it to the Lesson documents.
Anyone have any ideas on what I might need to do?

it all depends on the total number of docs, docs/course, courses/curr, etc.But just at a glance of what you've shown here, I would say you will definitely want to use document sets, to enable them, activate the site collection level feature named document
sets. this is essentially a folder turned into a content type, so you can store documents within the "document" (set). great for metadata and properties in this scenario, as you can set a property on the document set and have all of the content
within it share that property value. you could then set more specific metadata on the sub-items. I would think something like this might work:
1 document library for each curriculum with custom columns that are specific to the entire curriculum as a whole (you could create a library with the columns, then save it as a template to reuse for new curriculum without having to redo the column settings).
also, make sure to allow management of content types on the library, this will let you specify which content types are allowed
1 content type which inherits from document set CT. set the columns which would be used for the course, you can also mark if those are shared to children or just apply to the doc set itself.
1 content type which is a child of Document which is fairly generic, but has the basic columns which apply to all your documents, from there, if you wanted, you could create children CTs of this to allow for a more customizable feel for different types of
lessons. maybe an online lesson vs inperson lesson uses different types of metadata columns, etc (this type of project is really all based on your business needs and extremely specific to each individual company/dept, etc. people quite frequently
hire consultants and bus. analysts specifically to design this hierarchy)
add the content types to your library and start messing about creating them and test how you like the shareing of properties, and views, etc. if you're going it alone on this in a small business, there will be a lot of trial & error and just getting
a feel for what you want/need. hopefully we can help you through it here in the forums
for reference (also, fyi, libraries are the same as lists, but with docs. so setting things up are the same either way. Also, 90% of the stuff you find for 2010 in this area will also work or be extremely similar in 2013). there's a lot

Using Forms that don't set the content type charset

The Servlet API 2.3 has a new method, request.setCharacterEncoding(), to
          deal with the fact that almost no browsers set the content type. When I call
          this method passing "Shift_JIS" using weblogic 6.1, it works fine when the
          content type is not set by the browser. That is, after calling
          setCharacterEncoding when I call request.getParameter("testparam") I get the
          correct translated value. However, if the content type is
          "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=Shift_JIS" and I call
          request.setCharacterEncoding("Shift_JIS"), getParameter("testparam") returns
          null.
          Can anyone shed some light on this?
          It looks like I'll have to not set the character encoding if it is already
          set. That, of course, opens the possibility that the character set used for
          translation is different than was used in the form.

Fix for issue where update KB2760758 broke multiline text properties field in custom content type

In September Microsoft Office update KB2760758 caused an issue with the multi-line field used in custom content type used in SharePoint 2010 document libraries. KB2826026 apparently caused the same issue.
Users were not be able to save documents on the SP server (in a document library) as MS Word would prompt them with a "Required properties" error message stating: ".. correct the invalid or missing required properties".
Several sources indicated that this was supposed to be fixed in the December Office updates, but I don't see an update that affects MSO.dll where the problem originates. Does anyone know which update fixes the issue?

I updated you on my blog post, but just to provide an update here for those searching, this issue is not fixed in the update to the MSO.DLL available in the Dec 2013 CU, and the product group currently has no ETA on a fix.
Of course, PSS should update me as soon as they do hear of an ETA from the PG.

Please confim 'Hoe to search Content Type'

Hello All,
Whenever I search using a *, TREX search engine searches for all documents and gives them to me. This may be word, ppt, xls, exe....and all content types.
On the other way, if I enter "*.doc" in the search text box, i do not get any results.
I would like to narrow this search just like we use Windows search.
For this I have added Content Type property in the 'Search By Property' dropdown list and by giving value as 'application/msword', I do get all the doc files but I wish this functionality to be like windows search.
I have also checked the entire MIME File types list on Portal (am working on EP6 SP9) and enabled doc as the default filetype for application/msword.
If there a way to do this...?
Please help me solve this.

KM in general does not know what is commonly called an extension. Of course you are allowed to name your files
like xxx.doc, xxx.ppt and so on. But KMs basic file type attribute is the 'content type'.

The search text input field you mentioned triggers a linguistic search (by default) for following attributes:
- content
- display name (as text)
- description
By chance try to search *.doc at google.

That's the reason why you don't filter for *.doc.
But you have a good chance doing so by opening the search options and enter "*.doc" in the 'Name' field.

Now I just create a course content by local PC, and tried to preview the content, so i think it doesn't need to link the CMS address. The content was published on local for preview, the following address like below.

LSO:Defaulting language on Course Content Static IT5003

When creating a course type, using delivery method Virtual Classroom, client would like to default the language to English when creating IT5003 (Course Content Static).
I haven't found a way to do this via IMG config. Is this possible through config? Is there another way to default the language on this infotype without modifying the system?

Are you saying that when a training admin is creating a course type and IT 5003, that particular IT is not presently appearing in English?
By default, when you initially log on you can choose your logon language therefore that IT should already be in English as with every other IT.
Not exactly sure what is the issue your are having. Can you explain a little bit more?
