Cover Art Corruption?
Hello. I bought an iPod Touch 32 GB (3rd Gen.), model A318/EMC2310 about 1 month ago. It came with the 3.1.2 firmware, and I updated it to 3.1.3.
I noticed some days ago that something pretty "wrong" and annoying started happening: The cover art for songs and albums somehow started becoming "corrupted", in the way that the song in the iPod "loses" its real cover art and may:
· display another cover art (from another existing song in the iPod)
· not display anything at all
If I connect the iPod to my PC and run iTunes, in the song list the real cover art is displayed.
The following pic displays clearly the problem.

What could be the reason for this problem? Is there any solution?

What format are the songs in that are causing this problem?
I've found that the coverart corruption is caused by 'Non-iTunes' format MP3 files.
Converting all MP3 files to AAC format appears to fix the problem.

Plus, some of the cover art is mixed up and some of the covers have even been replaced with combinations of multiple albums. And every once in a while, a song will play on its own, without me pressing play, and it skips as if I'm holding the forward button. This iPod is only a few months old so I'm really worried! This just started today after I had it plugged into my computer and synced it. It might have been caused by a tree that fell and knocked out the power in our area while the iPod was plugged in. Can someone please tell me how to fix it? Would taking it into an Apple store help?

I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

I recently had to restore my Ipod classic as it was not sending play counts back to Itunes... that problem is now fixed, but I have another. Much of the cover art is now missing when I play tracks on my Ipod, and what there is is now all jumbled up. (By which I mean.. the art is for tracks I do have, but they are all assigned to the wrong artists.)
I have synched 8000+ tracks - all in mp3 format with the correct cover art embedded in the original files.
So, my question is, can I force Itunes / my Ipod to recheck the artwork either from the mp3 files themselves (ideally, as I know they are correct)or failing thta, from Apples database. i don't really want to restore again if I can avoid it.

MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x
Here are some interesting observations in discovering MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x
1. Importing CDs
If you import a CD, you must wait for complete import to finish in hopes that all songs will populate successfully with cover art. Even here, success is random.
If you request cover art during the import, there are mixed results.
iTunes should be smart enough to detect if any album exists with partial cover art in the library database, then those tracks with missing cover art will be automatically detected and updated.
2. Missing Cover Art
This occurs on 2 levels:
a. iTunes Store may just not have cover art for some (older) albums
b. iTunes Store does find the cover art, but it is not applied to *all tracks* on the album
The workarounds bring mixed results.
I have resorted to the "Get Info" approach and pasted cover art to random album tracks where cover art was only partly applied by iTunes.
In other cases, I scanned in the CD cover and applied it to albums where iTunes found no cover art. I assumed this would be a one-time fix as I expected some minimal tweaking would be involved in managing cover art.
No such luck! Here is why iTunes cover art represents a MAJOR bug in version 7.x.x
Day 1: I spend many hours tweaking and fine-tuning the cover art, assuming iTunes will "save" all my work. I browse different albums/tracks and everything looks great!
Day 2: Looks like iTunes only "saved" some of this effort. Sure enough, certain complete albums and random tracks from other albums now show NO cover art! How frustrating!
* * * Here is what is MORE DISTURBING about this Cover Art bug! * * *
I resort to thinking about more workarounds, and here are the results:
Hmmmm. Looks like if I paste in the Cover Art twice on certain album tracks, the Cover Art is now applied to that track. Meaning, if you do a "Get Info" on a track, you will see two pastes in the Cover Art tab, yes, you add the cover art twice, one cover next to the other so as to force that album track to get the cover art to attach. On the surface, this seemed to work, and all album tracks now seem populated with Cover Art and the effort appears "saved" when I revisit the album on Day 2.
But all is not what it appears. The trick of adding missing cover art twice, in the hopes that an album and/or certain random album tracks might adopting the cover art you are trying to assign will produce the following:
IT ACTUALLY AFFECTS THE AUDIO TRACK!!!!
Multiple attempts to add/fix cover art will ADD TO TRACK DURATION, such that when you play a track, the lead-in portion of the lyrics (say first 10 secs or so) will REPEAT in as many times as you tried to add the cover art!!!!
Thinking this might be a corrupt library database, I even deleted the database, started over, and while adding missing cover art, was able to reproduce the lyrics repeating on those tracks where the cover art was added (pasted) twice. You can HEAR and see the increased track duration in iTunes 7.x.x
MAJOR Cover Art bug!!! So you are not alone. And besides all the wasted hours trying to fix this, I say wait for iTunes 8.x

Getting iTunes to select the correct image, especially for compilations can be quite frustrating. I've been slowly cleaning up some old artwork from when iTunes could not pull artwork from the iTunes Store for music from other sources. I've learned to check the album in question by using the iTunes Store link in iTunes - I figure if it goes right the the album I'm all set - Wrong! Today I'm doing battle with a bunch of "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection" albums. I can go through the album song by song and every one goes right to the correct album - but when I "Get Album Artwork" it still may not find the album or will pull in volume 2 instead of volume 1, etc. I've tried making sure my albums names are exact matches to the iTunes store with the same bad results.
It really seems like iTunes uses a different search method for artwork than for the iTunes Store link. At least Google has an image search... -
Hi I have some albums on my iPhone. In iTunes the albums show different cover arts, however in my iPhone all albums got the same cover art from one of the other albums
How can I get the cover arts working as they should? Everything worked just fine till I added two new albums yesterdaySomehow the database has become corrupted. This can happen when unplugging the phone while it is still syncing or being accessed by your computer.
You will have to remove all music from the phone and the resync it once more. That's the only way to fix the artwork.
I've had to do this a few times on my iPod Classic and the only way to fix it was to remove the music then resync. -

I just bought an iPod touch - when I plug the ipod in and sync music, iTunes removes the cover art that I downloaded for ripped CDs or purchased from the itunes store. All I see is a black box next to the album on ipod and a blank spot on coverflow. The artwork is still in itunes. I've cleared the artwork in itunes (ver 8) and redownloaded - it still arbitrarily removes some of the art.

iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

I have a 2nd Gen Ipod Touch - Best thing ever =)
but I have a couple of problems that may have been adressed before
but -
1. When I play NOVA VODCAST| PBS podcasts ( only certain ones) like Brain Trauma or Stem cell Or SAVING HUBBLE The ipod shows -- random white dots then it crashes and takes quite a bit of time to reboot -Are you guys getting the same thing?
2.Why can't I delete songs?
3. I have a video on my ipod but the cover art for it is from some other TV shoe I got from itunes but then deleted. Only for 1 video , odd
4. When I go to Cover flow - certian albums just dissapear when they're at the center however they appear. Also in cover songs are listed under the album but cerrtian songs when played dont display the album
5. The time changes whenever I sync- Its annoying _ anything other than opening itunes beforehand ?

and does any of this warrant a exchange/replacementIt's because iTunes is a piece of crap! Corrupt album art for cover flow has been a big problem for the longest time....and Apple WON'T fix it! In a earlier version of iTunes (ver 8 I think), there was a setting that people found out would fix the artwork if it got mixed up (I think it was the "sync artwork" checkbox but I am not sure). With version 9 however, Apple, in all it's infinite wisdom, decided to remove this option and now the only way to fix this issue is to RESTORE!! And that is completely B.S!! I am getting so sick and tired of this crap! I added a album (WOW....10 whole songs), and now every one of my 105 albums are showing the wrong artwork! Apple needs to remove this "database" bullsh** and go back to reading the info DIRECTLY from the tags.

Video cover art gone in 12.1.0.71
I have iTunes running on a Windows 7 Virtual Box. Basically this box is my home's file server. All the videos and songs I've ever purchased live there. Everyone in the family can use Home Share to stream to their Macs and Apple TVs. This arrangement was perfect until 12.1.0171.
Now when I start up I get a warning that "Video Playback is not supported on this computer" -- It never really did play well on the PC, but that's not the point. The iPads and AppleTV are where the videos get played. The annoying thing is, there's no cover art in the video library any more. Not on the actual display, and not on the iPads, AppleTV's or other devices. All the other m4v metadata displays, just no cover art. It even still streams.
So is this a problem with my install? I gather there's an "iTunes for older video cards" would that make a difference? or is this just a bug, and I need to wait for the next patch release?Hmm, that's not an error I've seen before. Was some of your media missing post install and did you reimport it?
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. Sadly your most recent previous library may be from the initial 12.0 upgrade last October.
Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the Date Added values or I could offer a way to export the data from an older library and reimport it into your current one.

Ipod nano 4g - wrong cover art appearing
I manually transfer music and youtube videos to my ipod nano 4g from Windows XP (home) and Windows 7 (office) computers. I have iTunes handle podcasts that I follow (about a dozen). Both machines are kept current with OS updates and iTunes updates.
Lately, however, it seems something about the ipod memory has been corrupted, because most of the "cover art" on the podcasts have become fouled up. For example, 7 or 8 different podcasts now show a still frame from an entirely different podcast as their cover art.
This has extended itself to a number of music files also ... enough that it's bothersome... Do I just need to reformat the lot and recopy them over? I'm curious how it happened, but I'd also like to know how to correct it... and most importantly, how to keep it from occurring again in the future.

JamesThis problem has happened to me. This is usually caused by two albums having the same description like "Greatest Hits". Right mouse click on a song you know has a bad art cover and look at the Get Info tab. Right mouse click on a song that is on the art cover causing the problem and also look at the Get Info tab. Compare the two. If the album description or any of those fields are the same you need to make them unique. Make sure you change all the songs on the album the same way. Next time you synch your album art will properly be displayed.

ITunes 11 lost A LOT of my cover art.
A lof of my album art has gone missing and iTunes is unable to replace it. I click download album art and nothing happens. Very frustrating. Booo.
This is the second major blunder from Apple re cover art. Some years ago when I was updating cover art by selecting multiple songs from albums, iTunes randomly corrupted the actual music files and caused the first 1 - 8 seconds of some songs to repeat. That issue has never been resolved (you can find it on non-Apple forums), and I still have this occur for some songs that I haven't had time to re-burn from CD. Now I have lost hours and hours of work updating cover art. Someone suggested that the artwork still exists in cover flow. Maybe, but it is gone from the meta data (ie you can't see it in "Info > Artwork"). I am going to try to download an ealier version of iTunes and revert to an ealier version of my library to restore the artwork. It would be very much appreciated if an Apple engineer could fix this.

Problems concerning sonata playlists and freevo cover art

I'm setting up a media center PC and I'm having some problems with the playlists created by sonata. Another problem I have is not getting freevo to download cover art.
First: When ever I try to make a playlist through the "Current" tab in Sonata it creates a m3u file with every song that's listed in the current window. I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata? And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Second: I'm having big problems getting freevo to download cover art to my music. I can download info on movies from imdb, but info for the music doesn't work. I store the cover art downloaded by sonata in the different album folders and these covers show up in freevo. But if I have to play every new song i download first in sonata to get the cover art working in freevo I'll go crazy. It's supposed to work the same way in freevo as in sonata isn't it???
It also seems that mplayer can't play m3u files. Using the mentioned sonata made m3u file in mplayer does nothing. Mplayer starts but nothing happens.
My goal is to be able to make playlists through sonata and then play these lists using freevo. I don't want to get up from the couch.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

I like the idea of being able to browse using cover art but it is only a useful feature if you can get most cover art . There are many albums for which iTunes has album cover art, albums which I own original copies of, for which I can't get album art.
Examples: Sigur Ros /Saeglour, T-Bone Burnett /True False Identity, Paul Simon/ Surprise, Graceland, all of Van Morrison's albums, most Dylan and Neil Young albums and many others.
Apple put this feature on I Tunes, but many album covers which you show on the Itunes store website don't download. I have both checked "automatically download missing album artwork" in preferences and requested Get album artwork in the Advanced Tab . If I control click on the album artwork on iTunes store, I can't even copy the image to paste it in manually. Also, when I request album art I often get an "unable to download certain artwork " message with no further explanation. If I'm supposed to buy the album art I'd like to know how and how much.
What's up?The spelling was ok since almost all were entered using gracenote. Anyway it suddenly started working. without changing anything I could tell I asked again to get album artwork from the Advanced tab and it started downloading 400 album covers. whatever. So my problem wasn't answered but it is solved. thanks for the google image search idea. So I guess I'll mark it answered.

REMOTE app on iPhone does not display Cover Art
I use the Apple REMOTE App on my iPhone to control my iTunes music library on a Mac. The REMOTE App controls the iTunes playback properly. However, the Cover Art for each song does not display on the "song" screen - showing the song currently playing. Across my iPhone screen (where the Cover Art should appear) are the words containing album of the song). The name of the song and album correctly appear at the top of the screen.
What is interesting is that when I hit the back arrow (left side top on song screen), all of the Cover Art appears in small thumbnails. The Cover Art also appears in other displays (for example, the currently-playing Album) using REMOTE on my iPhone. This means that the cover art is being transmitted to my iPhone - HOWEVER IT DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE SONG SCREEN.
Can anyone kindly help me resolve this - because I would really like the Cover Art to display properly on the song screen. Thank you. DaleNezmo, This is really unbelievable. I have suffered from the issue I described for SEVERAL YEARS. Today, for some reason I decided to make this post on the Apple discussion board. And, today the issue was fixed by Apple. I just downloaded the update to the REMOTE app and the cover art now shows beautifully on my iPhone 6 plus. Thanks. Dale

Remote app: using thumbs from iBooks documents for cover art??
In iTunes on my Mac, I have a playlists where I've dragged in my favourite radio stations. If I connect to it with Apple's Remote.app and play any of them, though, it is using as cover art the covers of PDFs I have in the iBooks.app!
Seems minor, but it seems one app is breaching the sandbox of another, even if they're both Apple apps...
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Latest iBooks, Remote, iOS 5.1, iPhone 4S. Mac is on Snow Leopard, iTunes v10.5.3I have the same issue. Somehow I had previously fixed it but it has recurred. Deleting and re-installing app does not fix the problem nor does re-setting the iPhone.

I have Vista SP1 with 4GB of Memory, ok I know I reallyt only have access to a little over 3GB but LR is only making use of 712MB which is crazy low .... WHY ? And please don't tell me it has anything to do with fragmentation because it's not. Lightr
