Cox email: folders synching but no new emails

Mavericks 10.9.1 and Mail 7.1
Mac Mini 5,2 (2011)
After setting up my cox email account using all the default settings I cannot get the inbox to get new mail without manual intervention. Existing emails are downloaded to the inbox at the time of account setup. All the other folders, Trash, Sent, Junk etc... are synching correctly. Connection Doctor shows all green dots. Activity window shows activity for each folder when trying to get new mail or switching between folders.
Troubleshooting steps.
1. Send new mail to Cox account from webmail of another account
2. Open mail app on iOS device to verify new mail arrived at inbox of Cox account
3. Close mail app on iOS device
4. Press the Get Mail button for Cox account on Mac mail app, try synching Cox account
RESULT:
No new mail on Mac
Next steps
5. Open mail app on iOS device
6. Delete any older email from the inbox of Cox account
7. Close the mail app on iOS device
RESULT
Mail app on Mac will download all new emails and also remove the email deleted in step 6.
As a side note, you can skip steps 2 and 3 and achieve the same exact results. And steps 5 and 6 can be replaced by logging onto the Cox account via webmail and to delete and older email from the inbox. So no iOS device is required to duplicate these results.
Can anyone help or should I take this to support?
Thanks
  Dry  :-)

I would delete and  add the accounts back to the device

My ipod nano 7th generation said it was done synching but the new playlists i created (from songs already on my ipod) didn't shoe up on my ipod

    Hi janice5453,
If you are having unusual sync issues with your iPod nano, you may want to try restoring it to factory settings, then syncing again, as outlined in the following article:

  • Two older iPods will synch but a new one won't

I have an older Nano and a 4th generation iPod that both synch and work fine.  My son just got a brand new iPod for Christmas and I cannot get it to synch.  When I connect it it makes two low "beeps" instead of a low then high "beep".  Since I've been messing with this one I've noticed that my other son's 3rd generation is doing the same thing. I have installed the newest version of iTunes twice and the same thing keeps happening.  Any clue?

Let's double-check the AirPort settings on the MacBook...
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one.
    - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

  • I have received an email from a friend with a link which I clicked. It directed me to the google home page and I am now suspicious that it is a virus  or a Trojan horse. I would know what to do on my PC but am new to Ipad. How can I check?

I have received an email from a friend with a link which I clicked. It took me to the google home page. I am now suspicious that my friend's email account has been hijacked and the link contained a virus or a Trojan horse. I would know what to do on my PC but am new to the IPad. Can any form of Trojan horse be planted on IOS 6 or am I worrying unnecessarily? Reassurance would be most welcome as I do use the IPad for checking bank details and web purchases. Thanks for any help.

PC virus won't run on iPad.

  • Links in email won't open. When I click on a link, it goes to open tabs in FF, but the new link doesn't open.

When I get a link sent in an email, the link no longer opens when I click on it. When I click on the link, Firefox and the open internet tabs appear on my screen, but the new link does not open. I must manually copy the link, then paste it in the address bar to get it to open.

I have the same problem with FF 3.6.13, and Mac OS 10.6.5.
Clicking links in Mail opens FF, but does not open the URL. Safari has no problems when I reset it as my default browser. The problem seems to develop over time. At first, links open fine, but then all of a sudden they won't.
My remedy has been to reinstall FF, but I've had to do it twice in the last couple of weeks, which is getting a bit annoying.
I have not experienced the problem on either of my two older Macs (running 10.4, and 10.5).

  • After updating os to 10.9.1can't open pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Any help would be appreciated.

After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Sorry might sound dumb but am new to this. I'm getting loads of junk emails. I've noticed my firewall is turned off should I turn it on?

No, a firewall is for blocking connections based on ports and protocols.  You could block all of your email with it by blocking pop or imap ports, but then you would get no emails at all.
You already are protected from direct connections initiated from the internet if you have a router.  Don't turn anything else on.  Unsubscribe to any mailing lists that you might be on and filter your junk email in your mail application.

  • Set up ipod touch to cox email, ive tried everything and cant get it to work. thanks!

set up ipod touch to cox email, ive tried everything and cant get it to work. thanks!

Here's an answer from the net:
Go to Settings/Mail,contacts,calendars/Add account choose other, choose Add Mail Account. Fill in name, email address, password and description on the screen that comes up. Save those.
One the next screen tat comes up click om POP in the first line then fil in the host name as
spop.west.cox.net or spop.east.cox.net or the one to go with your region.
Note that is not a misprint, that is spop (secure pop)
Fill in your username one more time (the password should have carried over from previously)
Fill in your outgoing mail server like smtp.west.cox.net (change for your region) and click Save.
When all the settings are verified a checkmark will appear next to them all and you are good to go.
If it says something like "can't connect via SSL would you like to ..." then you probably missed the step about selecting POP on the second screen and are trying IMAP so go back and try over with POP. Or perhaps mistyped soemthing.
Once everything is working you can go back into the settings and see that it has automatically connected on port 995 and that SSL is on
Note that you probably won't be able to send email from a wifi in a cafe or similar as cox won't let you connect to their smtp from outside their network.
I haven't tried receiving mail from a non cox connected wifi yet but I suspect it will work just fine. Anyway these settings work for me using my ipod to my home wifi router connected to cox.
I could not find a definitive guide when I searched so I hope this helps other folks trying to configure this.
I got the spop from "Mail for Mac OS X 10.5 configure SSL / POP" here:

  • Cox email issue

I have a customer that is having issues setting up his cox email on his ipad.  I found this link https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4169368?start=15&tstart=0 which is helpful, but the ipad continues to add the account as an imap instead of pop.  How can we resolve this issue to help the customer?

I have Cox and use the same pop (pop.east.cox.net) and smtp (smtp.east.cox.net) servers you do.  For the incoming server, my port is 995 and the secure connectin and verify certificate is checked.  Don't forget your user name is only the name before the @ sign (I made that mistake the first time I was setting it up).  For outgoing, the port is 465 and check the boxes at the bottom again. you can test your set up by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with your cell phone number in the subject line.  I could never get the unsecure ports to work.

  • COX Email & Mac Mail Issues!!!

+I have read some solutions on other posts regarding compatibility issues with Cox & email. For whatever reason, these solutions aren't working for me.+ Calling Cox has been a complete waste of time!!!!
_Here's my problem_: I can only get my email on the Cox server and to my iPhone, but not to Mail on my Mac. One caveat: I can send/receive a message to myself from Mail & the server...!!??? (but not from anyone else)
    _Here are my POP Settings_:
    * pop.west.cox.net (from another user, I alternated between "pop" to "spop" - it doesn't seem to make a difference?)
    * smtp.west.cox.net
    * Port: 110 (SSL box NOT checked)
I deleted the Cox keychain certificate because it was expired. Not sure if this was a good idea or not - just following another users advice.
I also used the Mail Connection Doctor - all green!
+**I really hope that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong!+
    +Thanks so much!+

Sorry, but none of that makes any sense to me. What do you mean by 'the Cox server?' Do you mean webmail?
You can send an email to yourself--is that to your cox email from your cox email?
    _Here are my POP Settings_:
    * pop.west.cox.net (from another user, I alternated between "pop" to "spop" - it doesn't seem to make a difference?)
    * smtp.west.cox.net
    * Port: 110 (SSL box NOT checked)
To use spop you need to check the ssl box.
You should have the part before the @ in you email address as the User Name.
On the Advanced tab, you should have Password selected for Authentication.
Edit the smtp server list--the option is in the server popup list.
Set it for Password authentication and use the same username and password as for the incoming mail server.
You're not supposed to need that, but give it a shot.
