CPU load growing slowly at exact pace

Hi all,
I'm experiencing a weird thing since migrating from 10.5 server to 10.6 server: The CPU load grows slowly but steadily after each restart. After two days the server gives bad response, resulting in beachballs coming and going on both the server and all clients with server home folders. After a restart everything is OK again, and the CPU load starts slowly to grow again, even at night when the load should be near zero. Have anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

I've checked both logs and AM, but I don't see anything special there. The active processes just seems to slowly be eating more and more CPU time. The CPU load grows by a linear rate from a mere 5%, and when it reaches about 40% the sluggishness begins. This process takes about 2 days. There's currently no third party software running. Services that run are: AFP, DNS, FTP, iCal, Mail, OD, SMB, VPN and Web. The server has a RAID-card with the three bays set up as a RAID5.

  • High MySQL CPU Load

    Hello All,
    I am currently running the following:
    OS X Server 10.5.5
    2x3GHz Multi-Core Xserve
    8GBs RAM
    MySQL Server v5.0.67
    One problem I am having is that when someone does a MySQL database search on a particular webpage the CPU load can get upwards to 400% render the search useless to all other clients. The MySQL CPU load is getting so high that no one can then do a search and the results never come back until the other queries are finished first.
    Why won't MySQL use the 8GBs of memory I have installed instead of sucking up CPU? Is there a way to allocate this in the OS or terminal? If not, should I be optimizing MySQL settings instead to better work with my query statement and 8GBs of memory that I have installed? I'm not exactly sure what to adjust within the MySQL settings if this is the case.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you very much!

    @Camelot,
    I have not configured anything, everything is default install. I have about 6 devs on this box at all times and we do not have a MySQL admin. I really need to fine tune this setup as the DBs are starting to grow very big. I am looking for any help at this point and want to start fixing this now before it becomes more of a problem. I am going to start researching the MySQL dev zone ASAP.

  • VI causes high CPU load after several days of running

    Hello,
    I have a strange problem. I have craeted a test bench control VI and it runs on five PCs, controling five test benches. All PCs have almost the same hardware, same motherboard, same CPU, etc.
    Normaly the CPU load is around 50% when I run the VI, but at one PC the CPU load climbs up to 85% after several days (maybe one week) of continuous running and the PC is almost tied up - the VI execution becomes very slow (10 times slower) and the mouse only moves very slowly.
    First I thought that the PC has a problem but the problem dissapears as soon as I stop and restart the VI!
    I don't even have to terminate LabVIEW - only my VI and then everything is okay again.
    The problem does not seem to occur at the other four PCs, but I can not tell for sure.
    The task manager says only LabVIEW causes the CPU load - swap file utilisation is little.
    Is there a way to analyze what causes the high CPU load?
    I Use LabVIEW 7.1 professional
    Operating System: Win XP (SP 2 or 3 I don't remember)
    P.S. I have no loops without wait-functions.
    Greetings Johannes
    Using LabVIEW 7.1 and 2009 recently
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Do all PCs have the same amount of RAM?
    What is the memory use over time as seen by the windows taks manager. Does it increase gradually?
    An increase in resource usage if often cause by sloppy programming.
    Do you grow arrays forever or constantly resize arrays in memory? (built array, insert into array, delete from array)
    Do you often create new references and never close them?
    What does the program actually do? In my opinion, a constant 50% CPU load seems too high for my taste. It means it would not even be able to keep up on slightly older hardware.

  • CPU Load 98% after changed MTU size

    Hi,
    I am having problem here. Previously, when the MTU was 1508...The cpu load was <5%. When changed to 1512, the load was increasing 70%. Recently, changed to 1522, the load is >95%. Any idea guys. Thanks lot

    I had this same exact problem on the cat 6500 running SXF10. Where I enabled MPLS and it caused CPU to spike. So to check what is getting forwarded to the MSFC perform the following to see a packet capture of what is hitting the CPU. So you need to run a SNIFFER capture.
    Note this is only for the 6500 platform... once you check what's hitting the CPU (eg: fragmentation, icmp type 3 code 4's, etc al)...
    Here are the instructions to setup inband span (which monitors traffic sent
    to the MSFC):
    Router#monitor session 1 source interface fa 3/3 !--- Use any interface that
    is administratively shut down.
    Router#monitor session 1 destination interface fa 3/2 !-- connected to sniffer port
    Now, go to the SP console. Here is an example:
    Router#remote login switch
    Router-sp#test monitor add 1 rp-inband rx <--- check the syntax as it varies
    from one IOS to the next so use ?
    Verify monitor session:
    Router-sp#test monitor show session 1
    Ingress Source Ports: 3/3 15/1
    Egress Source Ports: 3/3
    Ingress Source Vlans:
    Egress Source Vlans:
    Filter Vlans:
    Destination Ports: 3/2
    Go back to the RP and verify the monitor session as well:
    Router#show monitor
    Session 1
    Type : Local Session
    Source Ports :
    Both : Fa3/3
    Destination Ports : Fa3/2
    SP console:
    Router-sp#test monitor session 1 show
    Ingress Source Ports: 3/3 15/1
    Egress Source Ports: 3/3
    Ingress Source Vlans:
    Egress Source Vlans:
    Filter Vlans:
    Destination Ports: 3/2
    To remove the inband span from sp do test monitor session 1 del and from the rp do no mon sess all
    ===============================
    So my exact issue was two parts, CPU spike up 99% when WCCP was enabled with MPLS tag switching at the same time. Rebooting didnt help... I ended up changing from SXF10 to SXF14 IOS just in case but I still had high CPU after upgrade. But the major difference was when I removed the ACL tied to WCCP and removing the ACL completely and re-pasting into the configs for WAAS and then reapplying. But in my sniffer capture I did notice a lot of ip fragmentation hitting the MSFC processor. Now my MTU is 1522 and works fine.

  • J2EE Processes using 25% CPU load without load

    Hi
    We are running a Portal cluster with 2 cluster application nodes with each 2 J2EE server processes and a dispatcher.
    We experiences that after some time the J2EE server processes can start using typical 25% CPU without any load on the portal - after some time the load typically increase to approx. 50% CPU (still without user load) and the only "solution" is to restart the processes.
    Anyone you have experienced a similar behaviour?
    BR
    Tom

    Are you doing load balancing too somewhere?
    I though I read somewhere about some replication between nodes that goes on.  If they transfer their information and drop it, that is fine.  But they don't. On the next round they exchange the new info and info from the last time.  It just grows.  Look at you DB server, check to see if one of the DB's grows with the CPU load.
    The other thing is logging.  I am a log freak myself but, sometimes I get into trouble by logging too much.  Next time your CPU loads check *.log and temp logs, see if there are any over 10 gig.
    Not that I never had one,
    no,
    never.

  • SG-500 - SNMP OID for CPU Load?

    Hello,
    i have several SG500 (Standalone and stacked). How can i get the CPU Load via SNMP? Who knows the correct SNMP OID for CPU Load?
    In the MIB which are provided as download a wasn't able to find the correct OID.

    Hello,
    There are three OIDs available for CPU usage:
    CPU utilization for 5 seconds
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.1.7.0
    CPU utilization for 1 minutes
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.1.8.0
    CPU utilization for 5 minutes
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.1.9.0

  • High CPU load with Flash on Mac Leopard

    Dear Adobe,
    I am always running the latest version of the Flash plugin on my Macbook. Ever since even with the simplest Flash movies running in a browser (no matter whether Safari, Firefox, Camino, Opera, ...) the CPU load jumps oh so high the fans will spin at full speed and the CPU starts to create subtropic temperatures. Years ago I was running a Windows PC where the CPU load wasn't even close to such high CPU loads. Oh so many Apple users would very very much appreciate Flash Player being at least close to as efficient as the Windows version.
    Thanks in advance for making Flash movies more enjoyable on the Mac platform

    Adobe need to realize that once their great product with a lot of penetration into the web ad + ria market is starting loose its ground as they simply can't address ongoing issue on their poor flash plug-in performance other than on windows platform. There are a lot of flash enthusiast out there but this poor support from the Adobe doesn't help this much further. One of the reasons why other software vendors pushing for more open standard RIA platforms other than Flash based...
    Only suggestion that I have with Adobe is that if you can not get it right then, it may help to open up flash player source to the community. I am pretty sure that there are a lot of developers out there who can help out to drive better code base for the player and in turn make flash more adopted by non non ms windows user base. At the moment, I have installed "Click2Flash" and "FlashBlock" to save majority of CPU cycle on my MacBook Pro. Imagine the impact on this for future Adobe product. All online ad will slowly move away from flash based and in turn loosing entire market share it has successfully built over the years... Well must note that MS isn't much better either... MS RDP client is permanently turned off from my system, now I'm using CoRD instead..
    I sincerely hope to see some major performance improvements in near future.

  • Extreme CPU load with QuickTime

    On my machine I have serious problems using QuickTime - even with small videos of 640x480 CPU load is at 100% and the video is not running fluently.
    On the other side i can play HD videos with 720p using VLC or WMP without any problems CPU load is at about 70%-90% in that case.
    In some scenes of this small vid I have 100% CPU load, if I stop the video just 3% from the rest of the app's. (phoenix mars orbiter/640x480/22MB):
    http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/video/edlteaserhigh.mov
    _Can anyone tell me why? Is there a solution somewehre in this universe?_
    My machine:
    AMD Thunderbird C 1.3GHz/Geforce 2 Pro/1GB DDR
    Windows XP/DirectX 9.0/QuickTime 7.1.5

    I have used 7.1.5 up to now, but 7.4.5 behaves exactly the same.
    With this small 640x480/30Fps/H.264 .mov using QuickTime my CPU load looks like this
    http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/video/edlteaserhigh.mov
    Using VLC to play a 1280x720/24Fps/Xvid .avi trailer my CPU load is much lower

  • Activity monitor showing iOS process CPU load?

    Twice in the past two weeks my iPhone 4s (running latest 7.1.1) suddenly became very warm, and its battery went down rapidly even when on standby. If I plugged it in, it got even warmer and it charged very slowly.
    In each case I was eventually able to recover, by stopping all apps, putting the phone in airplane mode, doing a couple of full restarts, and (this seemed to be important) turning the phone off completely until it cooled down completely. Because I did several things almost at once, I can't be sure which ones were effective.
    This could be a hardware issue with the battery. The fact that turning the phone off completely seemed to be an essential part of the cure suggests that. It could also be a hardware issue related to network communication, cured by Airplane Mode.
    It could also be related to beta software that I was running, though that software was not active either time. The testing profile was installed though, and could have been involved. After the second incident I removed the profile as a precaution (fortunately the GA version of the software had just come out).
    To help track down the cause, if it happens again, I would like to find an iOS equivalent of Activity Monitor on my Mac. I've installed several free system status apps and I have read the description of several paid ones. The ones I have tried give me a list of running processes with their priorities, and total CPU load, but so far I have not found one that shows which processes are the CPU hogs. Maybe one of the paid ones does that, but their descriptions don't claim that feature. It t doesn't make sense to spend money without getting the feature I need. If it is a software issue, looking at total CPU load while starting and stopping apps may not be a good diagnostic since the culprit could be a background or system process.
    Any suggestions?

    And a process that is capable of running multiple threads of execution, can concurrently use more than 1 CPU, and thus consume greater than 100% of 1 CPU.

  • Osx 10.9 Mail & Safari High cpu load

    Hello,
    A few weeks ago I updated to OSX 10.9. After working a few days with it, I run into several high CPU load issues.
    2 processes: mail-webmateriaal and safari-webmateriaal (dutch).
    Now I use Chrome instead of Safari which solves 50% of my problem, but it is not so easy to change to another mail-client...
    Does anyone have a clue about the possible cause, but even more important, a solution?
    Best regards,
    Johan

    jvdstoel,
    Ditto.  I have the exact same OS 10.9 issue on a Late 2008 iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo that is maxed out at 4 GB RAM (seemed like a lot of RAM at the time).
    Mail, Safari, and Firefox--but not Chrome--whether running any 1, 2, or all 3 programs together keeps the CPU running hard at and often above 100%.  This occurs even when the programs a sitting idle from the user's perspective.  Disabling all extensions on Safari and Firefox did not help.  Nor did running Onyx to clear all catches system wide.
    Calling on anyone with a virtual PhD in Maverics (or real Apple OS 10.9 street-smarts) for suggestions.
    Best,
    Pete

  • Why 99% cpu load when running buffered position measurement

    I'm getting 99% cpu load while performing a buffered position measurement with a 6602 in a PXI system.
    I am running the example provided with Labview itself.
    What am i doing wrong here ?

    This is a known problem. The reason for this is that the counter buffered operation uses a blocking method, so that buffer object spins in the kernal while waiting for the buffer to fill.
    A workaround is to continually check the backlog and then just read exactly what is in the backlog. You can read the backlog by using a shift register within the while loop. Connect the backlog output of the Counter Read Buffer VI to the shift register on the right side of the while loop. Then use the shift register on the left side of the loop for the number to read input of the Counter Read Buffer VI. This will assure that you are only reading what is in the buffer and you are not tying up the CPU waiting for the buffer to fill. I hope this helps.

  • CPU Load stays 100%

    Hello,
    im running into a problem with the FMS blocking our FMS
    server with 100% CPU load.
    the scenario:
    - We use the FMS only for chatting and NOT for streaming.
    - Server is ~ AMD X2 5600 / 2GB / Gentoo
    - We have peaks with a lot of people chatting simultaniously
    in "rooms" with
    up to 50 people in the same room.
    at around 1500/2000 simultanious chat connections the server
    reaches its limits
    it goes up to 100% CPU use and now the problem starts:
    The server never again uses less then the 100% cpu unless you
    manually restart
    the application. Even if the connections drop again to lets
    say 100 connections
    the CPU hangs at 100%.
    Did anyone experience this problem aswell? Is there a
    workaround that the server
    recovers after too many connections? what could be the
    problem (besides the many connections)?
    And one more questions that i have:
    There will be certainly way more then 2000 simultanious Chats
    that we have to handle.
    Is there a way to have chats / shared objects deployed
    transparent over multiple FMS instances?
    meening does the FMS scale in a way that conected clients are
    visible over multiple
    fms instances / servers?
    Thank you - Stephan

    Since there are 3 heat sinks that I can see , I was asking if anyone knew where the temperature reading is coming from.
    1) The blue heat sink with letter "Military Class 3" next to the CPU
    2) The blue heat sink with letter "OC Genie II"  next to the CPU
    3) The blue heatsink with letter "msi" located next to pci express slot
    Because #1 and #2 are next to the CPU cooler, which should be forcing air around them,  I am suspecting maybe the reading is from #3.
    Old MSI boards had sensors for Northbridge and Southbridge, but the new ones, I am not sure where the reading is coming from.
    ====
    Update: I've confirmed the reading is most likely from the "msi" heat sink... By directing more cool  air toward that area, the  motherboard temperature has dropped to about 34 to 35C.
    ====
    Anyway the following are reading from various different software before the change in air flow toward the "msi" heat sink:
    CPUID Hardware Monitor:
    TZ00 => 28 C - never changes
    TZ01 => 30 C - never changes
    TMPIN0 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65
    TMPIN1 => Motherboard temp: slowly rises upto 40 C
    Open Hardware Monitor
    Temperature #1 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65 C
    Temperature #3 => MB temp: slowly rises upto 40 C

    CPU => varies from 31 to 65 C

  • BT stack file TosBTMng.Exe causes 100% CPU Load

    I'm also facing the problem that the Toshiba Bluetooth Manager (TosBtMng.exe) very often starts looping and causes a CPU load of 100%.
    This happened with older versions of the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and current version (5.1.0.12).
    The affected system is a Tecra S1, internal BT-Modul and Windows XP SP2.
    Installation of the BT-Stack went well and the notebook will boot succesfull while BT is enabled. I also checked for hidden COM-Ports and other hints found in this forum, no success.
    The lockup seems to happen at different times. Sometimes just after are reboot, clicking on the BT Tray symbol with the right mouse button. Then the context menu is shown just as white area, no entries. It may also trying to connect to an already paired device. If I kill the process with the task manager I can restart and it continues to work for some time.
    As found in another thread here I have enabled API logging of the Bluetooth Manager and found the following while connecting with the Nokia PC Suite to my mobile Phone:

    Maybe this helps to locate the origin of the CPU load problem of the Bluetooth Manager.
    Thanks

    I was having the same problem, and it turned out to be the Data execution prevention settings. I had turned on (System->Advanced->Data execution protection) the execution prevention for all programs, causing TosBTMng.exe to max out one processor core all the time. The solution was to add TosBtMng.exe to the list of exceptions and restart. I'd looked high and low for a solution - hope this helps someone else!

  • High CPU load with nfs4

    Has anyone noticed a high cpu load when transferring over nfs4.
    My arch box has a dual core amd with 4 gig of ram.  It has a rocketraid 2320 card being used for a 8 1TB mdadm raid 6.
    I am transferring from ubuntu -> arch box.  I am noticing high cpu on both sides.  I dont know if its an nfs issue or what.
    On the arch side I am seeing high usage from nfsd , flush-9:0, and an mdadm process.  Both cores are sitting around 50%.
    Anyone run into this or know if its an issue with nfs4? or maybe different nfs versions of ubuntu and arch.
    Thanks.

  • 90% cpu load on ubuntu 8.04

    Hello all,
    I made a visualization for sorting algorithms. (The code is to long to post it here)
    I developed the app under this system:
    Windows Vista Home x64
    Dualcore ~2.6GHz
    Java Version: 1.6.0 Update 7 32bit
    and i have a cpu load of ~10% when i run the app.
    I asked my friend to test the app under his OS:
    Ubuntu 8.04
    Dualcore ~2.2Ghz
    Java Version: 1.6.0 Update 7 32bit
    and he got a cpu load of over 90%!
    We both had no running tasks in background. It was only the java app.
    Are there any known issues about this problem or could could it be a coding problem?
    Btw the programm uses round about 8 Threads.
    TIA

    Ok i try to specify a little bit more.
    e.g.: I have this code snippet to check whenever the algorithm has finished.
    while (!algorithm.isIdle())
                                  try
                                       sleep(1);
                                  catch (InterruptedException e)
                                       clockRefresh.interrupt();
                                       setIdle();
                             }Without the sleep I have a cpu load of 50% (of course, because it is an endless loop until the algorithm has finished).
    But with the sleep time it's just 1 or 2%.
    I want to know if there is a known issue in the JVM that causes threads on some systems to use to much cpu load.
    Or could it be a coding problem?
    What do you think about the sleep time in this loop?
    Or could the high cpu load be caused by bad coding?After reading this post I could not read further. There is the problem. You're doing a sleep(1) .....
    Even in C that will most likely kill any cpu. Try to use joins: elegant and faster ;)
