CPU panic

Hope i'm posting this in the right section, please let me know if not..
for a while now, my macbook is experiencing problems when I try to wake it up from sleep both after closing the lid or letting it sit idle for a while.. Most of the time it will immediately tell me to reboot upon opening the lid.. When it goes to sleep from sitting idle, it will tell me to reboot after about 5 seconds, but it does work for a short time..

Have you tried resetting the PRAM and SMC?
Other possible solutions:
Clear Caches
Disable IPv6 in Network preferences
Repair Disk Permissions
Verify Disk
Use Rember to test RAM
If the problem started when you updated to 10.6.6, then either A. restore from a previous system backup before the update or B. Reinstall from your Snow leopard installation disc. It will leave all of your user files in place, only touching system components. Then use the COMBO update to get back to the last OS version that worked for you. DO NOT USE THE NORMAL UPDATE. Combo updates have been known to be much more effective in these situations. All combo updates are available on Apple's website; just Google "10.6.x combo" and it'll pop right up.
Hope this helps.

  • Has anyone else been experiencing CPU panics after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

Mac Pro, 8 core mid 2010, 32 GB RAM, 6 TB storage
Before upgrading to ML, I ran it in Parallels as a VM with no problems.  However, once I upgraded, I began to get CPU panics.  The core dump doesn't really point to a culprit.  I am using Apple approved RAM, all matched pairs at the same speed and I've not added fiber channel to my system yet.  I am running four to five VM's at a time and, during the time of panics, I was not compiling any code.
I've seen similar threads throughout the forums, so I am thinking that this is an OS level issue with a patch coming out at warp speed but I am curious as to wheither or not anyone has found the "smoking gun", the actual trigger for the panics.

Many thanks to the hatter.  Parallels, it seems is the culprit.  I am going to try to find a workaround but this ***** majorily.

  • IBook with CPU panic

One of my friends had a problem with his iBook G4, at startup it says: cpu panic. What to do now? Could this be related to another previous problem? A month ago he opened the iBook to try to fix a video problem (the screen was failed) but at this point I'm worried he damaged something. Any suggestions? Thanks

OMG, I was wrong! He called me now and he told me it's his PowerMac G4 (without airport card) that is failing. Suggestions?

  • CPU Panic...help please

My Mid 2011 iMac is having a random CPU panic, about once every 2 - 5 days. It seems to happen when its asleep, go figure.
The only thing connected to it is an ethernet connection to the router and a thunderbolt external ssd drive
Can anyone decipher the error message
    Thanks

  • OS X Mavericks CPU Panic & Install Package

When I originally installed OS X Mavericks in 2013, ran into a CPU panic on the install reboot. Apple support helped me get by this issue and successfully complete the install.
I needed to reinstall OS X Mavericks, downloaded the package successfully, launched install and when MacBook Pro rebooted computer had a CPU Panic again.
I was surprised the issue causing the error was not corrected in one of the Maverick updates
I remembered the work around, used Option Key to select Mavericks instead of OSX Install and successful got to desktop and working OS X.
However, the faulty OSX Install package is still there instead of Recovery Partition and occasionally is triggered on boot causing CPU Panic.
How do I get rid of the Install package?
What might be causing the CPU panic?

My school has installed Esafe Prism on my mac but that shouldn't make any difference, should it?
    It very much could.
Can you start up in Safe Mode and try to install it? Restart and hold down the Shift key until you see the gray screen.

checked with prtdiag and physically.there no amber led on server also.
    no error messages in dmesg.
You cannot presume there isn't a hardware fault just because a CPU module has resumed its operation after a panic.
CPU's do not become disabled.    They are too fundamentally critical to a system and will always try to run when you boot a system.
I have to contact oracle for this?
Yes,.   If your system is a Oracle/Sun branded system, then you use your service contract credentials and log a Support Request.   They will likely have you run Explorer and they will analyze the information saved in the Explorer output file.
If your system is from some other hardware company (IBM or HP for example) you contact them instead.

  • CPU Panic Log for third time. System crashes...

    Hello,
I have a 2.4 Ghz brand new macbook pro. It is my third computer, because every previous model has had processor panic logs. They have replaced my computer, almost no questions asked. However, the last time I went in, they tried to blame this on me, saying it was my software, so they would not copy any software to my new mac when doing data transfer (trying to remove themselves from the equation). This is obviously a large problem, and I am wondering if I should just return this one again, and ask for some form of extra reimbursement. I have driven back and forth, over 20 miles each way to get a new computer, and they continue to fail within 2 weeks of purchase. What to do? Here is the error log I have gotten.

  • CPU panic on e450 - urgent

My E450 system panic due to cpu1, how do i disable the CPU on this box ?

On an E450 you may want to :
    ok asr-disable cpu1
ok .asr (to verify it is disabled)
    ok asr-enable cpu1
ok .asr (to verify it is back)
This will really shut it off. psradm prevents threads from running on the targeted processor but it may still have the ability to "interfere" with the rest of your system.
Once again, the first 4 or 5 lines from your panic would be extremely helpful.

  • Kernel / cpu Panic Macbook 1.1

    Hello,
On my old MacBook (1.1) i am running Snow Leopard.
Everytime when i connect a Firewire Device to the MB it completely freezes after a few seconds, also when i start it in HDD Mode, there as soon as i connect it to another Mac the MB freezes.
I took a Photo of the MB when freezed, it´s not all fully readable but most things are.
Hardware Test didn´t mention any errors, and expect of this Firewire Port Problem everything else is working fine.
Thanks for any ideas, tips, hints...

SC Alert: Host System has Reset

Just curious if you've made any progress on this problem. I have several V880's that panic with the same string on reboots. Usually comes up after several resets, but very strange.
Only thing that I can think of that may be contributing is we recently updated the qlc drivers with patch:

  • FileVault triggered "panic" freezes in Yosemite

Turning on FileVault seems to have triggered succession of problems.
    MBA 11 inch (late 2010).  1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB.
Upgrade from Mountain Lion to Mavericks by clean installation at Mac Store in 2014. Subsequent successful update to Yosemite 10.10 (14A389) (Kernel Darwin 14.0.0) online with no problems on 17 October 2014 and in subsequent daily use.  However, this week on 4 November 2014 turned on FileVault for first time ever ... at which point kernel panic problems started for first time upon restart necessary as part of process of turning on FileVault.
Various panic reports so far, including:
    4 November: panic(cpu 1 caller 0xffffff801de1e80a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff801ddd8d15, type 14=page fault, registers:
    4 November: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800ce1e80a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff800cdd8d15, type 14=page fault, registers:
    6 November: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801321e80a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff7f943985d8, type 14=page fault, registers:
    7 November: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801ee1e80a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff801edd8d15, type 13=general protection, registers:
Workaround :  After multiple restarts and "panic" screen freezes, the panic reports have (so far) eventually resolved themselves each time by simple (if time-consuming) method of turning completely off and then turning on again repeatedly. Not great.
On positive side, after a couple of days the Macintosh HD is encrypted (as is now the remote TimeMachine backup disc). The "panic" freezes continue to occur intermittently, seemingly at restart from hibernation or start-up.
This repeated freezing has never happened before on this computer in 4 years until now. Do I just to have live with this?

11 days later and continuing to get CPU panics on restart, particularly if am restarting with power lead plugged in after battery has drained to zero.
Seems best never to shut down/restart if at all possible, otherwise am in CPU panic loop for ages.
Turning to PC alternative at times when I need a reliable connection for work - MBA is worse than Windows now for crashes, and even less support.
Perhaps I need to a day or so unencrypting everything (including Time Machine) and try and go back somehow to the time when it all simply worked - all in all a nuisance and an utter waste of time and energy.

  • 24" Aluminium iMac Kernel Panics

    Hi,
I have taken delivery of my 24" iMac with 2GB RAM, Apple fitted. I installed Leopard on in, ran Software Update, luckily (or at least I though) it came with the latest graphics firmware.
Then, kernel panic, reboot, another kernel panic. They seem to occur at random times during use but for similar reasons. I have tried re-installing, repairing permissions, verifying hard disk and re-seating the RAM. Still I get the kernel panics. I have outlined the logs below.
There are six separate logs below. Go here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=393799. For a better formatted post.

All the TechTool tests pass without issue, I have not done anything to customize the system, no Boot Camp, nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong / how I could fix it or is my iMac going back to Apple?

    Good morning,
Long log...eyes hurt...must stop the pain...
In short, you've done a great job troubleshooting with reinstall, repairing permissions, verifying the HD, and even reseating your memory.
I'd give a call to Apple Support or drop it into your local Apple Store, probably something more extensive than a simple issue here.
The one question I do have for you is, was the system panicking prior to the software update.
    Hope this helps! 

  • CPU load higher after applying in 147440 kernel on Oracle database servers

    Hi all,
Just wanted to know if anyone else is seeing an Increased CPU load with higher peaks and for longer periods of time, especially on single thread processes on oracle database servers. Our Oracle Database versions vary from Oracle 10 to Oracle 11.1.0.7 11.2.0.2 10.2.0.4. The Hardware includes Sunfire V245's, V440 and T5240. We saw a slight performance hit when going to 147440-02 at the first of Oct, but no big deal. Then we applied 147440-04 in the first part of Nov. And of course we got CPU panics and Zfs file system stopped mounting basically a complete disaster. Oracle provided and IDR for the CPU panic and then later release 147440-06. Which resolved the CPU panics and zfs file system mounts. But now our load average on is 1 to 3 points higher during load, grid control is constantly complaining of 100% utilization. I have had a call open since the first of November with oracle/sun support and have provided guds performance stats on before and after Kernel change. They are still saying that its not an issue. It is so bad we had to roll back to a July kernel on one of the servers.

Just to let you all know what we have found. After 2 1/2 months of working with Oracle Kernel team, they have identified the Oracle Enterprise Manager (emagent) (Grid control Agent) was using nearly 60000 threads under the 147440 Kernel and only 1500 threads under an older kernel.
I googled the solution for the emagent, but I continue to press Oracle Kernel Engineers to work with their software division, to identify other products that might cause similar problems.

  • Memory failures on Ex000 servers with 256 DIMMS and OBP_3.2.30,POST_3.9

    Hi,
In the past 6 months I have had problems with systems that have had memory upgrades using 256MB modules, although initially the upgrades have gone OK when a module goes faulty you get random CPU panics and the system will crash to the OK prompt or a system reset, at no point does any useful information get posted in the messages file nor does the bank get deconfigured, also if you run extend post diags the memory passes all tests OK.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Eddie

    Eddie,
Please run the following two Solaris commands and paste the results back here.
    # cat /etc/release
    # uname -a
If there is a lack of information in MESSAGES, then there's a chance you may not
have a sufficient Solaris patch level.
The output of the two commands will guide us all a little bit better.
