CPU Patch Problem in One of DB instance

Hi Gurus's,
On AIX two Oracle DB(11gr2) instances are running(D1 and D2).
I successfully applied "CPUApr2013" to D1 and same information is reflecting in "registry$history" , but on second instance "D2" after excuting "*SQL> @catbundle.sql cpu apply*" it generates following output in log file as well i can not find and update about patch in DB registry .
Apply script: /oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2/dbhome_1/rdbms/admin/catbundle_CPU_D2_APPLY.sql
Rollback script: /oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2/dbhome_1/rdbms/admin/catbundle_CPU_D2_ROLLBACK.sql
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
Executing script file...
Please guide me what could be the reason and how patch D2 DB with latest patch.
Thanks .
Vaishali.

Just update ,problem is "catbundle CPU_<ORACLE_SID>ROLLBACK.sql and catbundle CPU_<ORACLE_SID>APPLY.sql were not created." when i excuted "catbundle.sql cpu apply " for second (D2) instance.
Thanks.

  • How to detect potential CPU patch conflict in advance.

    Hi,
Is there any way to report the CPU patch conflicts before applying the patch.
I found this syntax: opatch apply -silent -no_bug_superset -report in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/cpu-whitepaper-129885.pdf
    However it doesn't work.
I downloaded the patch and unzipped the same:

  • What is the use of security pathces or cpu patches?

    Hi
    All,
What is the use of security pathces or cpu patches?
    Thanks,
    Vishal

Basically, Security patches keep your system secure from known expoits which could compromise your database should someone try to hack it. You don't have to put these patches on but you do need to assess the risk of not patching by checking what the security patch patches and deciding whether you are exposed or not. If you are unsure, then I'd recommend you patch.
CPU patches are Critical Patch Updates that are issued quarterly. These are a mix of security patches and bug fixes. The same applies - you don't have to patch but it is worth taking a look at what is patch and making some assessment of how exposed you might be if you don't.
Be warned, though. If you hit a problem and need Oracle's help, then Oracle support may insist that you are patched to the latest patchsets before they will assit with your issue (assuming the patch doesn't fix the issue).
One word of advice would be that if you do decide to patch, patch your test environment first and make sure everything works normally afterwards, just in case the patch introduces a new issue for your environment - this is rare but I have seen it happen.
    Cheers,
    R

  • CPU Patches to EBS

    Hello :
I have successfully upgraded the system to latest patchsets. The database is already on 11g. The only thing which is pending now is the CPU Patches.
I know that the Database and the Application tier CPU patch is cumulative where as the EBS suite patch is not cumulative.
For me to apply the EBS suite CPU's I need to know the current CPU patch applied to it. If I know this then I can probably list all the CPU patches that needs to be applied to the system. Is there any way or query that I can use to get this information.
Please advice any good reference material to carry out this patching. I want to merge all the EBS patches together and then apply it in one shot.
    Regards,
    Bala

  • CPU Patch related question

    Hi all,
We are using Oracle 9.2.0.6 on RHEL4 64 bit
What is the use of CPU patch.Ealier we are using Sun Solaris server but after migrating to rhel, we are getting problem in one of the applicaion module.
but i don't know whether we are haing any cpu patch applied on the sun server.
and which patch should i applied for oracle 9.2.0.6 and how to apply it.
Does the steps to apply the CPU patch is same as it is applying the patchset of 9.2.0.6.
    Please suggest me.

As CPU's are security patches (which you can get from Metalink), did you even consider visiting Metalink?
    You would have found
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:10:5691407109246679955::::ALLTEXT,ANYTEXT,EXCTEXT,NONTEXT,KNOWLEDGE,PRODUCT_ID,PLATFORM_ID,SS,ST,NUMHITS,FILTCRIT,FILTCRITVAL:CPU,,,,TRUE,,,0,DR,100,2,Support.CriticalPatchUpdates
Metalink answers all questions on CPU.
You should use available resources, as per the Forums Etiquette post, PRIOR to asking them here, forcing volunteers to summarize or abstract information which IS already on your doorstep.
And you would have noticed you need 9.2.0.8 to apply CPU's.
I also suggest you only ask questions after you have done some research. You shouldn't ask questions like this, and they don't deserve an answer. You can find the answer yourself with little effort.
You seem to think the only thing you need to know to work as a DBA is how to use this forum to ask all of your doc questions. You won't get far this way.

  • My solution (or so I thought) to Power Manager/CPU throttling problems!!!

I have found a solution to all my Power Manager/CPU throttling problems!!! Though there is some good and bad news.
    {EDIT: The problem has NOT been fixed, even after latest PowerManager (3.62) and BIOS (1.30) versions. Pretty much ignore anything I say below as the problem is still occurring. You can see my full post here: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-Speedstep-not-working-properly-on-battery-...}
Good news:  I have NONE of the throttling issues or inconsistent CPU frequency problems I was having before on AC or battery power.  Everything, including TurboBoost on battery works! It is completely fixed! (I have no idea how this factors into Lenovo’s statements that TurboBoost is disabled on battery “by design”. There is at least one other post from someone else that also reported TurboBoost was working for them on battery)
Bad news: I don’t really know which one of the many things I tried actually worked. I am sorry I wasn’t more methodical about recording what I did and checking results, but this was my last ditch effort to get this fixed on my own without sending the system in for repair and frankly, I didn’t think it would work. Now that it has worked, I’m hoping my steps can help others.
For anyone interested, here’s what I did… and before anyone says something like “That has nothing to do with managing power/cpu, why would that help?!… etc., please keep in mind I’m just stating exactly what I did. I am aware some of the steps may not be relevant, but who knows… We all know how weird PC’s are sometimes, even the smallest, oddest thing may resolve a problem. So anyway, here goes.
**IMPORTANT** Not sure how many noticed, but there was a new version of Power Manager released a few weeks ago, 3.62. The PM driver seems to have stayed the same. That alone could very well be the sole fix, I’m not sure. You may just want to completely remove PM and PM driver and install the latest version before trying any of the steps below.
1)Made a complete system image via Windows built-in backup feature
2)Disable any 3rd party fan/CPU control utilities (Throttlestop, etc). Make sure they are also not going to run at startup or from a   scheduled task
3)Remove Power Manager Driver, then remove Power Manager software
    4)Reboot to Windows
5)Remove all traces of the Power Manager drivers/software directories (think it was something like C:\readyapps and C:\drivers.) **For some odd reason after I did this, my wireless stopped working but it resolved itself by the time I was done with these steps, strange
    6)Reboot
7)Access BIOS and reset all settings to default
8)Boot into Windows, downgrade to BIOS 1.25 [UEFI: 1.25 - 8BET44WW / ECP: 1.14 8AHT32WW ]  via the Windows flash utility. I wanted to downgrade all the way back to 1.06, but the software would throw up some error for any version prior to 1.25 and wouldn’t proceed
9)Reboot to Windows; make sure system booted w/ out issues
10)Reboot again, access BIOS, reset to defaults again
    11)Shut down system
12)Disconnect AC power. Remove main battery. Access and disconnect system backup (a.k.a CMOS) battery under keyboard. Discharge residual power in the system (there are various ways to do this, but you could just leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes).  Visually inspect the system for anything funky…my system had a slightly but noticeably loose CPU/GPU heat sink/fan assembly power connector.
    13)Reconnect backup battery.
14)Reconnect AC power but leave main battery disconnected.
15)Power on. Should get a message indicating “checksum error, system time reset” or something like that.
16)Reboot to Windows. Verified still okay.
17)Downloaded latest BIOS version, 1.26. This time I burned the bootable BIOS flash CD instead of running it through Windows.
18)Restart and boot from disc, flash BIOS to 1.26. Once complete, restart. Verify BIOS set to defaults.
    19)Boot back into Windows.
20)Install latest Power Manager driver (1.62 ), reboot if/as prompted. Install Power Manager (3.62), reboot as prompted.
21)Boot into Windows, verified Power Manager was active and working. Verified TurboBoost was working. Restarted system a few times and played around with Power Manager for a bit to see if the different power plans worked and retained the settings, all the while monitoring the Intel TurboBoost utility and PM’s own “power gauges”. Let system Sleep, changed power sources, resumed, etc. Everything was working great.
22)Shutdown, reconnect main battery. Booted into Windows. Again, fiddled with Power Manager for a bit, switching between power plans and AC/battery power. Still worked great.
    23)Success!
That’s it.  Again, this is not a guaranteed fix guide. These are just simply the steps that I took on my system that resolved the problems many of us are having. Hopefully it will work for others.

    (Chipset driver) http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/oss924ww.exe
    (PM driver)  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83ku14ww.exe
Now, I did chipset first (didnt ask to reboot) then installed the PM driver (did ask to reboot)
I rebooted.... then I went into bios (1.26) and set everything to default... then restarted saving changes...
Since I prefer not using optimus I changed the display settings in bios right after saving the default settings...
Not sure whether or not you really had to go into bios... but everything seems to be working...
My settings in PM is set to Maximum Power in the Advanced tab,  3rd party monitoring tools is TPFanControl and HWInfo64....

  • CPU patch July 2010 on Oracle 11.1.0.7 database

    Hi,
I want to install the July2010 CPU patch (9655014) on a 11.1.0.7 database which was initially created with version 11.1.0.6.
The README file of the patch states the following about recompiling views:
3.2.2.2 Recompiling Views in the Database
You may skip this section if you have recompiled views for this database during the installation of a previous CPU or if the database was created with Release 11.1.0.6 or later.
So I assumed that I do not need to recompile the views but a little further in the README file I read:
If you want to check whether view recompilation has already been performed for the database, execute the following statement.
    SELECT * FROM registry$history where ID = '6452863';
If the view recompilation has been performed, this statement returns one or more rows. If the view recompilation has not been performed, this statement returns no rows.
When I execute the select it returns no rows. So this is confusing. Should I perform a view recompilation or not?
And when I execute recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql (strange name for a July 2010 CPU) it says:
    SQL> @recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql
    Running precheck.sql...
Number of views to be recompiled :1969
Number of objects to be recompiled :4019
Please follow the README.txt instructions for running viewrecomp.sql
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Ivan

Short answer: you dont need to run view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql
    Long answer:
    >
    SELECT * FROM registry$history where ID = '6452863';
If the view recompilation has been performed, this statement returns one or more rows. If the view recompilation has not been performed, this statement returns no rows.
When I execute the select it returns no rows. So this is confusing. Should I perform a view recompilation or not?
    >
You will only get an entry in registry$history if you had a database that you had actually run the view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql script which inserts a row into the table at the end of the script:
    view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql
    Rem =======================================================================
Rem Insert values for patch into registry.
    Rem =======================================================================
INSERT INTO registry$history (action_time, action, id, comments)
            values ( SYSTIMESTAMP, 'CPU', &&PATCH_NUMBER, '&&PATCH_DESC' );
COMMIT; In your case, you will get no entries in the table BUT you do not have to run the view recompilation so long as the database was created using a patched Oracle home of a release where Oracle says the view recompilation is not required.
    >
    SQL> @recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql
    Running precheck.sql...
Number of views to be recompiled :1969
    >
This script has a very simple logic that just generates count of views and dependant objects that would need recompilation. The selection criteria does not include actually checking whether you actually need to apply the view recompilation script.
    You can test this yourself:
Case#1: Run the recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql on a database where you have applied the view recompilation script. You will find the count shows a non-zero value.
    SQL> col action_time format a32
    SQL> col version format a15
    SQL> col version format a15
    SQL> select action_time, version, id from registry$history where ID=6452863;
    ACTION_TIME                      VERSION                 ID
    24-JUL-10 12.52.15.390000 PM                        6452863
    SQL> @recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql
    Running precheck.sql...
Number of views to be recompiled :1637
Number of objects to be recompiled :3487
Please follow the README.txt instructions for running viewrecomp.sql
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.Case#2: Create a new database using a version that does not require the view recompilation patch. Run the recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql. You will find the view count shows a non-zero value even though you do not need to recompile the views as mentioned in the Oracle patch notes.

  • CPU Patch for SOA BPEL -10.1.3.5 and B2B -10.1.2.0.4

We are in DOD -GOVT US marine corps.. WE are on 10.1.3.3.1 .. There is no CPU Patches for 10.1.3.3.1 nor
    for 10.1.2.03-B2B
    open issues/questions:
    Open Issues:
    1. What is Oracle's recommendation about upgrading 10.1.3.5 vs 10.1.3.4 (CPU Patch support length). Also CPU Patch support policy for BAM 10.1.3.3.1 and B2B 10.1.2.3.
    2. Any MLRs to apply after upgrading SOA/BPEL/WSM/BAM/B2B 10.1.3.5 ?
    3. Interoperability of OWSM 10.1.3.4, BAM 10.1.3.3.1, B2B 10.1.2.3 and SOA/BPEL 10.1.3.5. Can they co-exist or must they(one or more) be in same release level?
    Thanks & Regards

Hi , I am facing the same issue.
were you able to resolve it.
please let me know if you were.
    Many Thanks.

  • FTPing .zip CPU patch files...

    Hi
I have downloaded a .zip file for Oracle CPU Patch and wants to move it to UINX server. After connecting the UNIX server, beofre I say "put <filename>"...do I have to say "binary"?
Your answer will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed.

    Hello,
Besides the previous answer, generally (if you click on the patch detail) you have the size of the zip file in bytes.
    For instance:
Size 1.1G (1123325074 bytes) So, once you have sent the zip file on the Unix server, you can check if it's size is correct.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Oracle 10g CPU patch

Oracle 10g on Windows server 2003. I need to do CPU patch. I follow the patch instructions, but I have some questions:
    1. back up %oracle_home% directory. Is this just to copy whole directory to different disk?
    2. clean shutdown all Oracle services: I know this includes db, listener, db control, anything else?
    3. The Db has ASP application on the top. How to shutdown application? what components should I look at?
Webserver that uses Oracle client in the mid-tier?
    4. What does ODBC application mean?
5.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
6.What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
    Appreciate any help.

Thank you. I guess I need to make my questions clear:

My question: Is this just to copy to different disk OR you have other way to do it?It is a suggestion that will allow you to recover. In some cases (non-production) I will skip this step.
In production, I will ask the Backup team to make an extra backup of the entire ORACLE_HOME so they can do a quick restore if I mess up. (Then I'll be extra careful not to mess up.)
And yes, if you are comfortable that a disk copy will be sufficient to do a complete restore, then that should be OK as well.

I don't have ASM or ClusterwareThe you probably don't need to worry about it.
If you have any other Oracle stuff (BI Suite, SOA Suite, etc) that tries to log on to the database, these must be made aware of the outage - usually by shutting them down. Even if they are not on the same server.
    >
3.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
My question is where and how can I find this DDL?
Are you seriously saying you do not have access to an OS file-search tool?
At least one copy is in ORACLE_HOME/bin
    >
    4. What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
My question is that is this tool to get installed on Oracle server or application server? My vendor installed the Oracle server for us, how do I know if this tool got installed or not?It is a completely separate download. It is usually installed at the client, not on the server. However, since you have a vendor install, you may want to discuss this with the vendor.
The big challenge with Instant Client is that it is not an 'install' . It is just an unzip into an arbitrary directory, and does not get recorded in the registry. So almost impossible to find without the SysAdmin's install notes.

  • Need info on CPU patches

    Hi,
Could someone please explain me what CPU patches are. Is it some security patch?
Is it mandatory to apply these patches every quarter. And if we apply, will there be any performance related issues?
    Thanks!

The application of the Oracle quarterly patch CPU set is optional. If your testing requirements are too high to make application of multiple patches per year impractical then you might just apply every other or even one of the patch sets per year. The CPU patches are cumulative so if you apply the most recent you have all the prior patches.
The above is providing you do not need a specific fix provided by one of the patch sets. You current version of Oracle and when you plan to upgrade may also be a factor in determining if you need/want to apply a specific CPU.

Did you find a solution to this issue? We are having a similar issue trying to deploy a Paypal IPN on OAS 10.1.2.3. The IPN messages coming from Paypal appear to be attempting an SSLv2 handshake. In our case SSLv2 is disabled due to our security requirements so the connection is killed by our App Server. We have found that manually sending the IPN messages works correctly.
