CR2008: BLOB field in preview crash the designer

I using CR2008 with MSSQL 2008. I have create a table with some default values. On of them should be the compny logo. I have put company.jpg in the table to a BLOB-Column.
To insert the BLOB-field a use a SQL-Statement:
(SELECT ReportElements.ReportElementBLOB FROM ReportElements
WHERE ReportElementID='CompanyLogo')
Now I put this statement to my report. The designer show the logo. I can place it and sizing.
When I change to the preview with this filed then the designer crashes and will sned a crashreport.
What is the problem? How can fix it?
BTW: When I using other SQL-Statements to put text from the ReportElements-Table to my report it works fine.

OK - I hvae tried to fix the missing links. But after the install of the Fix the Link is missing anaywhere.
The other files I have checked - they are not important, when I use IE8 and Windows XP.
My next try was: Fresh install of the CR2008 SP3 and FixPack 3.1
I have install XP fresh on a other PC. After that I install CR2008 and connect to Database. Same Problem anytime when I use the SQL-Expression
I didn´t understand that. What is the problem. When I send the code to SQL-Server
SELECT (SELECT ReportElements.ReportElementValue FROM ReportElements
WHERE ReportElementID='LetterFooterLine1'), (SELECT ReportElements.ReportElementBLOB FROM ReportElements
WHERE ReportElementID='CompanyLogo')
Then the result is:
Letter footer Text example     0xFFD8FFE000104A46494600010101006000600000FFDB004300080606070605080707070909080A0C140D0C0B0B0C1912130F141D1A1F1E1D1A1C1C20242E2720222C231C1C2...
I hope some have a workaround or an idea what is the problem
BTW: I installed on the clean machine the new SP4 - but the problem still exist
Change the JPG to BMP and/or changing the size of the image still bring up the error anytime when I change from Designmode to Previewmode

  • Image Blob field can't display in designer viewer & web app

    It's very strange that my Image blob field is showing correctly in designer, but it's displaying nothing in Preview tab.
    After I deployed in to the web application in jboss, there is one error msg output to server console:
    ERROR [BlobFieldPictureCache] com.crystaldecisions.reports.dataengine.be: 某些参数缺少值
    The later part is in chinese, its meaning is some parameters are missing value.
    It's very strange.
    Anyone can help?

    I have fixed the blob image field display issue.
    It's because I have two sql query command in the report although I have joined them together.
    After I have merged them into one, the image can be displayed now.
    However, the error msg still exists.  Looks like not related to the image blob field.

  • MD form with a blob field on the detail

    Hi,
    I created a master detail form, my detail form is based on a table with a blob field.
    I got the following error message when I hit 'OK' on the form to finish creation.
    "Exception from wwv_generate_component.build_procedure (WWV-01821)
    Error creating module: ORA-01403: no data found (WWV-16042)".
    Why?
    BTW, I can create a form based on a table with blob field without any problem, but not a master detail form.
    Thanks;
    Kelly.

    Kelly,

  • Problem with update of BLOB field in a table with compound primary key

    Hi,
    I've been developing an application in Application Express 3.1.2.00.02 that includes processing of BLOB data in one of the tables (ZPRAVA). Unfortunately, I've come across a strange behaviour when I tried to update value in a BLOB field for an existing record via a DML form process. Insert of a new record including the BLOB value is OK (the binary file uploads upon submiting the form without any problems). I haven't changed the DML process in any way. The form update process used to work perfectly before I'd included the BLOB field. Since than, I keep on getting this error when trying to update the BLOB field:
    ORA-20505: Error in DML: p_rowid=3, p_alt_rowid=ID, p_rowid2=CZ000001, p_alt_rowid2=PR_ID. ORA-01008: not all variables bound
    Unable to process row of table ZPRAVA.
    OK
    Some time ago, I've already created another application where I used similar form that operated on a BLOB field without problems. The only, but maybe very important, difference between both the cases is that the first sucessfull one is based on a table with a standard one-column primary key whereas the second (problematic one) uses a table with compound (composite) two-column PK (two varchar2 fields: ID, PR_ID).
    In both cases, I've followed this tutorial: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm]).
    Can anybody confirm my suspicion that Automatic Row Processing (DML) can be used for updating BLOB fields within tables with only single-column primary keys?
    Thanks in advance.
    Zdenek

    Is there a chance that the bug will be included in the next patch?No, this fix will be in the next full version, 3.2.

  • Out of Order Primary Keys and Blob fields

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle Migration Workbench to transfer the data from SQLServer 2000 to ORacle 9i. I am running into the following issues and was wondering if you had any ideas what may be going on:
    1.) Primary keys are out of order
    2.) Blob fields are inserted into the incorrect row
    Ex. BLOB field stating 'Application active' should be associated with Act_key (primary key) = 5 and it ends up transfering over with act_key 28.
    Thank you for any information you may have on this.
    AK

    I am very interested in this thread because I have encountered a similar problem with BLOB columns, except that I am also seeing this with CLOB's.
    Essentially the all the data gets 'migrated', but the CLOB and BLOB columns are all mixed up!
    Any solutions?

  • Creating Packages from BLOB field contents, line wrap problems

    Good afternoon,
    we use an in-house developed database-driven update system to update both our databases and filesystems, the system itself performs really well but there is still one problem I can't fix without some expert help:
    the code of to-be-updated Oracle packages is stored inside of a BLOB field, the BLOB field will contain both the package specification and package body and needs to be split into two parts to first execute the spec and then to execute the package body (I tried to execute both in a single step but this didn't work). This works for packages with less than 32767 characters and also works in some other cases but I found one case where the executed code contains an extra line wrap right in the middle of a word.
    To make it more clear (I hope it's comprehensible), imagine the following database content:
    CREATE OR REPLACE Package
    MyPack
    AS
    [... a lot procedure headers ...]
    END MyPack;
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    Package Body MyPack AS
    [... a lot more procedures ...]
    PROCEDURE myTest (intID OUT integer)
    AS
    BEGIN
      SELECT count (*) into intID FROM MyTa[--this is where the dbms_lob.substr() ends --]ble;
    END;
    END MyPack;My code searches for the second occurrence of the "Create or replace package", splits the code into spec and body, executes the specification and keeps on adding the rest of the code to a VARCHAR2A variable called "storedCode" from the BLOB. Now in the above example, after the specification has been removed from the string, the remaining characters (ending with the "MyTa" string) are added to the varchar2a variable, the next line is fetched from the BLOB via "dbms_lob.substr()" and added as long as dbms_lob.substr() does not return a NULL value (end of BLOB). When the code is executed after all has been fetched, the generated Package Body will contain an extra line wrap right in the middle of the "MyTable" word compiling the package invalid.
    This is the procedure code I use (definitely improvable, I'm better in MSSQL and MySQL dialects ...) to load, parse and execute the BLOB content:
       -- to run package code
      procedure runPackageCode (stepRef integer)
      AS

    Welcome to the forum!
    Whenever you post provide your 4 digit Oracle version (result of SELECT * FROM V$VERSION).
    Thanks for providing an easy-to-understand problem statement and for using code tags.

    This should be stored in a CLOB since it is character data. Why are you using BLOB?
    >
    the BLOB field will contain both the package specification and package body and needs to be split into two parts to first execute the spec and then to execute the package body
    >
    Good, clear problem statement. So why doesn't your code do just what you said it should do: 1) split the code into two parts, 2) execute the spec and 3) execute the body.
    Instead of writing code that does these three relatively simple steps your code tries to combine splitting and executing and mushes/mashes it all together. The result, as you found, is code that is hard to understand, hard to debug, doesn't work and doesn't report on what it is doing.
    Code like this doesn't have a performance issue so the code should implement the simple step-by-step process that you so elegantly stated in your problem description:
    1. split the code into two parts
    2. execute the spec
    3. execute the body
    My advice is to refactor your code to perform the above steps in the proper order and to add proper exception handling and reporting for each step. Then when a step isn't working you will know exactly where and what the problem is.
    Here are my recommendations.
    1. Add two CLOB variables - one will hold the spec, the second will hold the body
    2. Add a comment (you have some good ones in the code now) for every step no matter how trivial it may be
    3. Add exception/error handling to EVERY STEP
    Your code for the first step has a comment but no exception handling. What should happen if you don't get any data? Why aren't you validating the data you get? Dynamic SQL using table-driven data is great, I love it, but you MUST validate that the data you get is what you expect to get.
        -- retrieve update ID
        SELECT log_update_ref INTO currentUpdate FROM link_update_with_taskstep WHERE log_taskstep_ref = stepRef;Recommended
        -- step 1 - retrieve update ID - This is the id that determines BLAH, BLAH, BLAH - add appropriate to tell a new developer what this ID is and what it means.
        BEGIN
            SELECT log_update_ref INTO currentUpdate FROM link_update_with_taskstep WHERE log_taskstep_ref = stepRef;
        EXCEPTION
            WHEN ??? THEN -- what should happen if step 1 fails? Do it here - don't default to an exception handler that is several pages away.
        END;Your code
         begin
            select storedobject, change_area
            into storedCode, schemaReference
            from vw_storedobjects
            where step_id = stepRef;
         exception
          when no_data_found then
            pIsError := 1;
            pErrorMsg := 'Invalid SQL ID ' || stepRef;
            pkg_generic.LogError(updateRef, 'LocalUpdater', stepRef, 'Run package code failed: ' || pErrorMsg);
         end;
    Good - except there is no comment that says what this does - I assume that the query above and this block are the 'retrieve update ID ' step?
    You log an error message and set the error flag to '1'. But since you don't want to continue why aren't you exiting the procedure and returning right here?
          if pIsError = 0 then
            beginSo now you check the error flag and do several pages of code if there were no errors.
    I don't like that 'inverted' logic.
    If you don't want to continue then STOP right now! Don't make a developer scan through pages and pages of code to find out you really aren't doing anything else if there was an error.
    Either put a RETURN statement in the exception handler above or change your code to
          if pIsError = 1 then
            RETURN;
          end if;Now the rest of the code doesn' t have to be indented; you will never get there if there is an error. Check for errors after every step and exit right then as appropriate.
              -- change schema
              execute immediate 'alter session set current_schema = ' || schemaReference;
              objectCursor := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
              loop
                strLine := UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(dbms_lob.substr(storedCode, 32767, pos));
                intDelimiterPos := regexp_instr(strLine, '\s*Create\s*or\s*Replace\s*Package', 2, 1, 0, 'i');
                while intDelimiterPos > 0
                loopThis code mixes all of the steps together into one giant mess. You open a cursor, try to split the BLOB into spec and body and try to parse and execute both all within a double nested loop.
    Even if that works correctly another developer will have a hard time understanding what the code is doing and fixing it if it goes wrong. And it will go wrong if you let me test if for you because I will put garbage into the BLOB for the spec, body or both to make sure it breaks and to see how your code handles it.
    I suggest you rewrite this double nested loop to perform the three steps separately.
    1. split the code into two parts
    a. put the spec into one new CLOB variable and the body into the other.
    b. use DBMS_OUTPUT (or a work table) to output the spec and body so you can see what the code is and make sure the 'split' process worked properly. You probably created that BLOB by manually concatenating the SPEC and BODY to begin with so now create a SPLIT process to split them again and give them back to you. This is such a fundamental component that I suggest creating a new SPLIT_MY_BLOB procedure. This procedure would take a BLOB and return two CLOBS as OUT parameters: one CLOB is the spec and one is the body. Then you can reuse this 'split' procedure in other code or more complex versions of code. Modular programming is the key.
    2. execute the spec - Now have a step that executes the spec and does something appropriate if the step succeeds or if it fails. I mean, do you really want to do execute the body if the spec execution fails? What do you want to do? Should you delete the body and spec? If you don't you might wind up with an INVALID body based on old code and an INVALID spec based on the new code you were trying to use. How will anyone, including you, know that the spec and body in the ALL_SOURCE view is really two different versions of things?
    This suggests that for your use case you may want to consider DROPPING the entire package, spec and body, before trying to recreate them both. At least if the package is totally missing anyone will know that the entire thing needs to be put back. Ahhhh - but to do that you need to know the package name so you can drop it. Than may require adding another step to get the package name from your data-driven table and adding a DROP PACKAGE step.
    3. execute the body - This step executes the body. Hmmmm - we have two nearly identical steps. So why don't you create a new function/procedure that takes a CLOB as input, uses dynamic sql to execute it and returns a result code. That would be useful. Then you could execute ANY sql stored in a CLOB and have a generic function that you can use for other things.
    Right now you are using the VARCHAR2 table version of DBMS_SQL.PARSE but you would change this to use the CLOB version.
    The end result of this refactoring is a main function/procedure that acts as the CONTROL - it decides what to do and what data (BLOB) to do it with. But it doesn't actually do ANY of the work. It just controls what is done.
    And you have a couple of generic, reuseable functions that actually do the work. One knows how to split a CLOB into spec and body. The other knows how to use dynamic SQL to execute a CLOB.
    Now you have a modular architecture that is easy to understand, easy to code and easy to test.

  • BLOB fields again...

    Hello,
    I'm developing an application which has a database table with blob fields. I've had many problems recently with this type of field, the most undesired being that LOV fields doesn't work in pages with BLOB fields.
    As a workaround, I've done a second page just to upload the files to the two blob fields. It worked, but now I needed to handle errors with different kind of files and their mime-types. I was happy to see that JHeadstart provided three auxiliary fields to store the filename, size and mime-type. It worked too, it saved all that information correctly, but:
    1. When "downloading" the file, apparently the mime-type is not set.
    2. Just after the file is uploaded, I can see in the main table that the attributes were saved correctly, but as soon as I close the browser and open a new session, I have errors. I have two blob columns; in the first, it doesn't shows the filename, but the file size, in the second blob column, it doesn't shows the file name, but the blob mime-type!
    Does anybody has any similiar problem?
    Thanks,
    Eduardo

    Hello Peter,
    Thanks for the confirmation that the BLOB / LOV issue is a bug.
    About my another problem with HTTP headers while downloading files from blob fields, you are right, I need to be more specific. In my first try, this "second page" just to upload the files was a simple UIX page, not generated by JHeadstart. I saw this could be a little difficult to handle, so I discarded it.
    Now, I created a second VO with the two blob fields and all other attributes read-only, and put it as a group in JHeadstart configuration file to generate the page automatically. I __disabled all multi-row operations__ so the blob fields are rendered in the main table as hyperlinks to be downloaded with their respective filenames set, as it was saved in the database field in the upload.
    But in my tests, if I save other files than images, the browser doesn't open it correctly. So I opened the UIX JHeadstart generated page, where I see something like this:
    <link destination="DownloadFile.do?pageTimeStamp=ignore&amp;model=TsacContratoUIModel&amp;binding=TsacContratoDocumentoContrato&amp;rowKeyStr=${uix.current.rowKeyStr}&amp;attachment=${TsacContratoDocumentoContratoTamarq}" text="${ui:cond(uix.current.TsacContratoDocumentoContratoTamarq!=null,uix.current.TsacContratoDocumentoContratoTamarq,'DocumentoContrato')}" rendered="${uix.current.TsacContratoDocumentoContrato!=null}"/>
    Clearly I can see two things:
    1. attachment=${TsacContratoDocumentoContratoTamarq}. I put uix.current inside, as we are in a table, and it worked fine after that.
    2. The hyperlink doesn't have the mimeType parameter set, but the respective DownloadFile.do class uses it to set the correct mimeType header. I put it by hand: &amp;mimeType=${uix.current.TsacContratoImagensViewDocumentoContratoMimetype}"
    I verified that all the three attributes used to save file information are correct and exists in the VO, in the entity object and in the table, and I've also tested it in the Application Module and also, they save all the information correctly, so I don't think the problem is here, but in the page generation.
    Thanks for your help. JHeadstart is a great and very interesting project despite some minor bugs that still exists.

  • Parameter Binding for BLOB field

    I would like to find out how I can bind a BLOB field as one of the parameters to an INSERT statement to be passed to an ExecuteSQL call?
    I was trying to use the Add function for BLOB field of the OParameterCollection object, but was having problem instantiating the BLOB object itself - getting object not opened error!?!
    Would appreciate any advice!
    Thanks,
    John.

    Hi Karuna,
    Breakpoint's answer is a bit misleading - there's no need for the parameter ID to appear in SE11. All you need is logic on your screen to utilize the parameter ID. You have two options for that: Either use the field settings in the screen painter (i.e. check the SET field and GET field checkboxes, at least Get field would be required - just seeing the parameter ID is not sufficient) or add some coding to your PBO coding to retrieve upon startup of the screen the value via GET PARAMETER statement (requiring also possibly a SET PARAMETER in the PAI for the field if you want to set it).
    Most likely the first approach is what you want. The second is more flexible, but also needs more care to avoid unexpected behavior...

  • Poor quality in images from blob field

    Post Author: pbrand
    CA Forum: .NET
    I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1 along with Crystal Reports XI R2SP1.  I have created a dataset for my report which has several BLOB fields that contain images.  One of the images is of a National Instruments graph control.  All images appear to be of lower quality than the original images when I print the report.  For instance the graph shows quite a bit of compression artifacts around the plots and text.  I have tried turning on the "Retain Original Image Color Depth" setting which had no effect on the quality of the printout that I could see.  It appears that Crystal Reports is compressing the images. Is there a better way of printing images in a Crystal Report?  Basically what I am doing now is taking the images, converting them to byte arrays and loading them into the dataset's BLOB fields.  Then printing the report.  I have thought about using the chart control in Crystal Reports but it does not have all the functionality that I require.  Is there some way to copy the NI graph control directly to the report?  I can live with lower quality on the other images, but I need the graph to be as sharp as possible.If I can't find a solution to this I will have to drop Crystal Reports and find something else.

  • Creating context index on blob-field

    I'm running Oracle 8.1.6 on Suse Linux 6.4.
    Trying to create an database via dbassist or dbassist created skripts
    will fail, if try to include interMedia.
    So used the possibility to copy a sample datebase from CD.
    Who knows about a Solution for this?
    So configured listener.ora und tnsnames.ora to use external procedures.
    Creating an user with cxtapp-role works.
    Creating ctx preferences works.
    But.......
    Creating an index on blob field will fail.
    The Error Message tells :
    create index doc_index on textdokument(text)
    FEHLER in Zeile 1:
    ORA-29855: Fehler bei Ausf|hrung der Routine ODCIINDEXCREATE
    ORA-20000: interMedia Text-Fehler:
    DRG-11206: Benutzerfilterbefehl /opt/oracle/product/8.1.5/ctx/bin/ctxhx
    konnte
    nicht ausgef|hrt werden
    ORA-06512: in "CTXSYS.DRUE", Zeile 126
    ORA-06512: in "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", Zeile 54
    ORA-06512: in Zeile 1
    Funny, there is no directory $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/bin
    and there there is no ctxhx anywhere!
    Reinstalling InterMedia will not help.
    Are there no Filters within the Linux-Release?
    Whats the problem like ?
    null

    I encountered similar problem running Oracle 8.1.6.on Windows 2000 Prof. I created and then populated a table, by indexing one of the CLOB columns I got following error messages:
    Create index system.AI on Tabel1(Text5) indextype is ctxsys.context
    FEHLER in Zeile 1:
    ORA-29855: Fehler bei Ausf|hrung der Routine ODCIINDEXCREATE
    ORA-20000: interMedia Text-Fehler:
    DRG-11440: Vorgang wird in der GERMAN Sprache nicht unterst|tzt
    ORA-06512: in "CTXSYS.DRUE", Zeile 126
    ORA-06512: in "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", Zeile 54
    ORA-06512: in Zeile 1
    The error message tell me that something is not supported for German text so the indexing fails. Does it mean there is no German support in IMT? Does somebody know what's wrong? Any workaround & Where to look at? Thanks.

  • BLOB fields slow down queries

    Hello,
    If I run this query:
    select MyID, MyDescription, MyblobField
    From MyTable
    Brings 500 records but it takes 30 seconds !
    If I select without any blob fied like:
    select MyID, MyDescription
    From MyTable
    It's fast.
    The blob fields are storing images like jpg or gif files. Approximately, each field stores 250 KB.
    I know that blob fields are slowing down the query, but could be any way to accelerate it?
    Thank you!

    1. use connection pool on your web program.because connecting database is big cost in 3-T structure.
    2. tune your sql, using explain plan.
    3. adjust your database setting
    Hope this help

  • Need to convert the binary data in blob field to readable format

    Hi,
    We need to convert the Binary data in the BLOB field to readable format and need to display it in Oracle Apps Environment,does anybody come across the similar requirement.
    please advise, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Babu.

    You could use standard Attachments functionality here ... if the blob is not in FND_LOBS, insert into FND_LOBS, fnd_attached_documents etc to enable viewing via "Attachments" to the entity the blob is related to.
