Why do you want to use ancient flat files when you have at your hands the power of sorting/searching/storing of a database management system?.
It is a lot easier and surely more productive to create a table and store there the messages you want to accumulate in txt files.

    Hi,
    is it possible to create a trigger on Sql Server 2005 to insert a row to Oracle XE ?
    I want to create a update/insert trigger on sql server 2005 which will insert the data into a Oracle XE table.
    I have a Linked Servers in Sql Server to Oracle XE and this link works with simple sql statement from sql server like :
    INSERT INTO [NEW_OR]..[Adam_user].[DUMMY] (AA) VALUES('Dummy String Data')
    But the same statement does not work when in trigger. the following error occurs in Sql Server 2005...

    The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service must be start on windows to accomplish the transaction ...
    For this:
    (on windows)
    START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS > SERVICES. Find the service called 'Distributed Transaction Coordinator' and RIGHT CLICK (on it and select) > Start.

  • Using Before report Trigger with Sql Server

    i have used packages in oracle using before report triggers in bi publisher 11g is it possible to do in the same way with sql server ?? don't know much about sql server . any link or documents

    Hi T.holt,
    Personally, I don’t believe SQL 2008 R2 with ADMT 3.2 is supported.  From the guidelines of install the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT), ADMT v3.2 requires a preconfigured instance of SQL Server for its underlying data store. We
    should use SQL Server Express and install ADMT v3.2 on a member server. ADMT installation enforces the following service pack requirements:
    • SQL Server 2005 Express must be installed with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later.
    • SQL Server 2008 Express must be installed with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later.
    If you use full versions of SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008. In this case, you need to install and run the ADMT console on a remote computer, and you can run multiple ADMT consoles on different remote computers. If
    you use a full version of SQL Server, ADMT installation does not enforce any service pack requirements.
    For more information about installing ADMT in the target domain, you can review the following article.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974370(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Migration From SQL Server 2005 to Oracle DB through Oracle SQ Dev Problem

    Hi all,
    we are trying to do a full Migration from MS SQL Server 2005 to Oracle DB 9.2 i
    we are using Oracle SQL Developer V 1.5.3,
    the capturing of the DB and the conversion to the oracle model completed succefully
    however when we try to generate the scripts from the converted model
    the script generation hangs on a sequence and no further progress is made (the script generation pop up keeps still on a certain sequence displaying its name, and thats it )
    no error messages are displayed,
    how can we know the reason for this? or atleast find a log for whats happening...
    any suggestions?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    migrating a sequence shouldn't make a problem. I did a quick test. I created this table in SQL Server:
    create table test_seq (col1 int identity(1,1),col2 char(1))
    Then I captured the table, converted the table and generated the script. There was no problem.
    CREATE SEQUENCE succeeded.
    CREATE TABLE succeeded.
    Connected
    TRIGGER test_seq_col1_TRG Compiled.
    As you see, applying the script was also successful.
    I am using Oracle RDBMS 11g, I don't know whether this makes a difference. Do you have any 11g instance available to test it?
    Can you show me one of the sequences that are causing the hang? Is the CREATE SEQUENCE statement already in the generated script, or not? Your table is for sure more complex than my simple example.

    Wolfgang

  • Issue with migration DB from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 11.2 using SQL Developer Migration workbench

    Hi,
    We face an issue while migrating an SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 11.2.  It fails during the process.  I hope someone on the forum has seen this before and can give us some advice.
    I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09).  The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0
    Here are the steps we take in the Migration Workbench wizard:
    I made an online extract of the SQL Server database.
    Using the workbench in SQL Developer I created a migration repository in schema PDM_MIGRATION.
    Next I start the migration, it captures the tables fine, but immediately after the start of the conversion I get a failed message without further explanations.
    This is the content of the error xml:

    Hi Wolfgang,
    Thanks for your reply.
    This is how the type MIGR_FILTER looks like:
    create or replace
    TYPE MIGR_FILTER IS OBJECT (
      FILTER_TYPE INTEGER, -- Filter Types are 0-> ALL, 1->NAMELIST, 2->WHERE CLAUSE, 3->OBJECTID LIST
      OBJTYPE VARCHAR2(40),
      OBJECTIDS OBJECTIDLIST,
      NAMES NAMELIST,
      WHERECLAUSE VARCHAR2(1000));
    I think the repository user has the correct privileges.  This is the overview of privileges it has:
    SQL> select * from dba_sys_privs where GRANTEE in ('PDM_MIGRATION') order by GRANTEE;

  • SQL SERVER 2005 to Oracle 10g r 2

    Hi all,
    I'm getting an "error" when I'm trying to convert a sql server 2005 database to a oracle 10g database.
    It seems to be right in te convert step:
    Copying Model:     1
    Transforming identifiers: 1
    Transformation Result: 16
    Transformed successfully:     1
    but there is no converted model and no log registries.
    the migrations user roles and privileges are:
    GRANT CONNECT, RESOURCE, DBA,
    ALTER ANY TRIGGER, CREATE ROLE, CREATE SESSION, CREATE USER, CREATE VIEW, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM
    TO migrations WITH ADMIN OPTION;
    GRANT ALTER ANY ROLE, ALTER ANY SEQUENCE, ALTER ANY TABLE, ALTER TABLESPACE,
    COMMENT ANY TABLE, CREATE ANY SEQUENCE, CREATE ANY TABLE,

    SEQUENCE, DROP ANY TABLE, DROP ANY TRIGGER, DROP TABLESPACE, DROP USER, DROP ANY
    ROLE, GRANT ANY ROLE, INSERT ANY TABLE, SELECT ANY TABLE, UPDATE ANY TABLE TO
    migrations;
    And I'm using Sql Developer Version 2.1.1.64 in a Win XP 64bits computer
    Could you please help me with this problem...
    Thanks,
    Manuel

    Manual,
    Do you see the same problem if you try the migration in stages ?
    Could you -
    - click on the SQL*Server database to be migrated and choose 'Capture Microsoft SQL*Server'
    - does that complete successfully ?
    - if right click on the captured model and choose 'Show log messages' is anything displayed ?
    - if the capture is okay, then right click and choose 'Convert to Oracle Model'
    - does this create a converted model ? If you right click and choose 'Show log messages' is anything displayed ?
    if you still have problems could you try deleting the migration repository then creating a new one ?
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Arc is not implemented for SQL Server 2005 physical model

    I added the Arc in my relational model, which is supposed to provide that references are mutually exclusive (so only one refering column can be not null). However there is not any implementation for this in the SQL Server 2005 physical model. The SQL code generated simply ignores the Arc and allows any values for the columns covered by Arc. If we check Oracle physical model. then it generates some trigger, which controls how many columns have values assigned - this is actually an implementation of Arc. But there is nothing of this kind for SQL Server model...
    By the way, implementing this Arc by trigger looks like to heavy approach. The very simple table level check constraint will do the same job. But this is a different subject though.

    Hi Dmitry,
    it's fixed in Data Modeler 3.1 EA2.

  • SQL Server 2005 Endpoints

    Hello,
    I am trying to fetch data from SQL Server 2005, bypassing
    IIS. SQL 2005 Endpoints require a username and password and don't
    support anonymous access. How can I send a username and password
    for authentication? This is the Flex 2 Beta 2 code I am using to
    call the service:
    <mx:WebService id="zoban" wsdl="
    http://zoban/Library?WSDL">
    <mxperation name="GetBooks">
    <mx:request>
    <Text>{kaka.text}</Text>
    </mx:request>
    </mxperation>
    Well, this does not work. If I point my browser to the
    service I get the username popup - prompt.
    Can I squeeze in something like <mx:username> and
    <mxassword> in the flex code?
    Best!

    WELL NEXT WAS UR QUESTION OF using a query string parameter
    pART 2 Passing request data into Flex applications
    You can pass request data to Flex applications by using a
    query string parameter or defining flashVars properties in the HTML
    wrapper. When you use query string parameters, Flex converts them
    to flashVars variables and passes them to the application.
    Inside the Flex application, you access flashVars properties
    and query string parameters exactly the same way, but the way that
    you pass them to the Flex application is different:
    * The flashVars properties: You explicitly define the
    flashVars properties in the HTML wrapper that points to the Flex
    application.
    * Query string parameters: You attach query string parameters
    to the URL in the browser's target window and the Flex Enterprise
    Services 2.0 converts them to flashVars variables.
    Changing either the query string parameter or the flashVars
    property does not trigger a recompilation of the Flex application
    if you are using the Flex Enterprise server.
    To use flashVars or query string parameters inside your MXML
    file, you access the Application.application.parameters object. The
    parameters property points to a dynamic object that stores each
    parameter as a name-value pair. You can access variables on the
    parameters object by specifying parameters.variable_name. As with
    any variable, you can bind the parameters object's properties to a
    display control or modify the value and return it to another
    function.
    The following example defines the myName and myHometown
    variables and binds them to the text of Label controls:
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.macromedia.com/2005/mxml"
    creationComplete="initVars()">
    <mx:Script><![CDATA[
    // Declare bindable properties in Application scope.
    [Bindable]
    private var myName:String;
    [Bindable]
    private var myHometown:String;
    // Assign values to new properties.
    private function initVars():void {
    myName = Application.application.parameters.myName;
    myHometown = Application.application.parameters.myHometown;
    ]]></mx:Script>
    <mx:VBox>
    <mx:HBox>
    <mx:Label text="Name: "/>
    <mx:Label text="{myName}" fontWeight="bold"/>
    </mx:HBox>
    <mx:HBox>
    <mx:Label text="Hometown: "/>
    <mx:Label text="{myHometown}" fontWeight="bold"/>
    </mx:HBox>
    </mx:VBox>
    </mx:Application>
    When a user requests this application with the myName and
    myHometown parameters defined, Flex displays their values in the
    Label controls. The following URL passes the name Nick and the
    hometown San Francisco to the Flex application:
    http://localhost:8100/flex/myApp.swf?myName=Nick&myHometown=San%20Francisco
    To view all the flashVars properties, you can iterate over
    the parameters object, as the following example shows:
    for (var i:String in Application.application.parameters) {
    ta1.text += i + ":" + Application.application.parameters +
    "\n";
    Flex does not recompile the application if the request
    variables have changed. As a result, if you dynamically set the
    values of the flashVars properties or query string parameters, you
    do not force a recompilation.
    Query string parameters must be URL encoded. The format of
    the string is a set of name-value pairs separated by an ampersand
    (&. You can escape special and nonprintable characters with a
    percent symbol (%) followed by a two-digit hexadecimal value. You
    can represent a single blank space using the plus sign (+).
    The encoding for flashVars properties and query string
    parameters is the same as the page. Internet Explorer provides
    UTF-16-compliant strings on the Windows platform. Netscape sends a
    UTF-8-encoded string to Flash Player.
    Most browsers support a flashVars String or query string up
    to 64 KB (65535 bytes) in length. They can include any number of
    name-value pairs.

    Oracle 10.2g Standard edition without any patchset.
    MS SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
    SQL Developer 1.5.3
    Please can anybody help me out in this issue ? Waiting for your reply
    Regards

    Hello,
    have you tried what happens if you delete the migration repository and recreate it?
    If the problem persists:
    1. Make sure the user that you are using has the following privileges
    Roles
    CONNECT WITH ADMIN OPTION
    RESOURCE WITH ADMIN OPTION
    Privileges
    ALTER ANY ROLE
    ALTER ANY SEQUENCE
    ALTER ANY TABLE
    ALTER TABLESPACE
    ALTER ANY TRIGGER
    COMMENT ANY TABLE
    CREATE ANY SEQUENCE
    CREATE ANY TABLE
    CREATE ANY TRIGGER
    CREATE VIEW WITH ADMIN OPTION
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM WITH ADMIN OPTION
    CREATE ROLE
    CREATE TABLESPACE
    CREATE USER
    DROP ANY SEQUENCE
    DROP ANY TABLE
    DROP ANY TRIGGER
    DROP TABLESPACE
    DROP USER
    DROP ANY ROLE
    GRANT ANY ROLE
    INSERT ANY TABLE
    SELECT ANY TABLE
    UPDATE ANY TABLE
    2. Run the following in SQLPLUS as the user that is being used to create the repository
    SQL> alter package md_meta compile ;
    3. If you then get a message like:
    Warning: Package altered with compilation errors.
    then issue:
    SQL> show errors
    4. If that does not show any error, what does the following query show:
    alter package md_meta compile;
    select text from dba_errors where name ='MD_META' and owner ='<your owner>' ;
    Best regards
    Wolfgang

  • Restoring a SQL Server 2005 DB to a SQL Server 2014 install, is there any way to prevent it from being upgraded

    Does anyone know if there is a flag I can use to prevent a SQL Server 2005 database from being upgraded to SQL 2014 when it is restored to a 2014 instance?
    Don't ask why, I just need to know if this is possible or if 2005/8 DB's are required to be upgraded if they are going to run on SQL 2012/2014 instances. The documentation seems to say this is so, I just want to verify that.

    First: You cannot directly restore a 2005 database to
    2014. MS supports migration over 3 SQL Server version steps; means you can restore 2005 to 2008/2008R2/2012, but not to 2014. You have to do a migration step between.
    Olaf I was looking for this today, because I'm working with a new customer that have SQL 2005 and I have SQL 2014. And needed to restore a backup form the production server in my test server.
    When I read what you write I think, oh no!! I have to install SQL 2012 in my server. But that it's not an option for me, and I say let me try to restore the DB first in 2014 and if not work install 2012.
    You can restore a 2005 database to 2014 directly, and it works.
    For reference the version number in the servers 2005 (9.0.4035 SP3) and 2014 (12.0.2000 RTM)
    This is not related in any way to the original question that you answered (the file format will be upgraded to the new motor, that is sure).
    I put this lines because in the future there will be some people searching about if possible to restore a 2005 DB to 2014, and like me will read your lines and think it's not possible and that can make a decision to buy 2012 and not 2014 to that new server they
    will migrate.

  • Can't see data in data tab - sql server 2005

    hello,
    i am connected to a sql server 2005 database (with jtds driver), the connection is ok, i see the tables but i can't see data in data tab.
    i have an error : incorrect syntax
    somebody can help me ?
    thank's in advance
    alex

    definitely. I was going to say, make sure you have the privileges to read data.
    From Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on, it is recommended that you are a member of the db_datareader - so that data in the database can be read

  • Unable to start SQL Server Browser service in Sql server 2005

    we are unable to start the SQL browser service on one of our machine with below error.
    I believe this to be the reason, why we could not connect to the instance with below error
    I tried troubleshooting as mentioned here, by changing
    value in registry from 1 to 0, but still no luck.
    SQLservices are also running.
    Please help on how to resolve this!

    Hello,
    You say that SQL Server Browser Service belongs to a SQL Server 2005, but based on the name of the instance is a SQL Server
    2012 instance.
    Do you have any issues installing/uninstalling SQL Server 2005 or 2012? One of them 32-bit and the other 64-bit?
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to Access SQL Server 2005 Remotedly

    Not sure if this is the right forum to post this...
    After going through lot of old posts in various forums and changing lot of settings, i'm still not able to access my Server remotely.
    This is Windows 2003 Server machine with Sonicwall Firewall, i have allowed Port 1433 in both Firewall and ISA and call is getting through but i'm getting following error msg :-
    {"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"}
    This machine is also having Sql Server 2000, and the SQL Server 2005 is installed with named instance.
    My connection string is :-
    "Data Source=192.168.0.1\MYSERVER;Initial Catalog=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True"
    In example above, i'm showing dummy values but actual string is having the actual live IP address and correct named instance and database.
    If i use a local address like 192.168.0.1 then i'm able to connect.
    My TCP/IP Address in Sql configuration is having my Live IP Address and the port 1433.
    Any help will be highly appreciable..

    i'm still checking on this. i have changed the port now to 1434 and changed in all places.
    my connection string is also changed now, so now i'm using :- MYIP\MYSERVER,1434
    now i'm getting a different error msg
    {"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)"}
    this can also be due to firewall or something else is blocking it, i will rechk n post back final answer.
