Create a between filter using months names ...

Hi, I need to create a dashboard filter using month names in a between statement for examples:
From: January - To August
the problem is when I do this the Obiee server made a filter by alphabetic order, so for the example the result will be nothing (because A is prior to J)...
How can I solve this
(My boss is in my neck and I have a family to feed...)

I can say workaround for this,what ever date parameter you want to convert to january....december
you can make an alias of that column as said above and write the filter on that date with a sql statement example as follows
select to_char(sysdate,'FMmonth') from dual
same way you take your requirement as select to_char(*your_date_column*,'FMmonth') from your_table

Ramsys has pointed you towards a very useful document, the timecard configuration guide. But, the guide is very complicated and it shows you what to do, but doesn't really explain 'why' you have to do it.
I run training courses on OTL, and this is a complex area to understand. It is possible to display almost anything on the timecard if you put your mind to it! Your example fo the cost centre is quite straightforward. Youi can create a value set to display the cost codes you want. A suitable one might already exist. You then need to have a view object (VO) to use this on the timecard. OTL provides 10 dummy VOs which you can use. The guide explains how to do this. The VO links your value set to the timecard. This step accounts for displaying the data on the timecard.
You also need to have somewhere to store the values selected by the user. To do this you need to define a contect in the OTL_INFORMATION_TYPES DFF to store the data. You will also need to have a mapping component to link the data on the screen to the OTL_INFORMATION_TYPES context. Usually, you can use an existing mapping component.

(for both the query the output is same)

I'm pretty sure this will not work. In effect what the statement should evaluate to is an instance of a GreaterFilter but there is no GreaterFilter that takes an extractor for both the field to be checked and the value to be compared to. Neither do any of the other built in Filter implementations take two extractors as parameters so you couldn't do something like "FirstClass.age = SecondBrother.age" either. Obviously you could write a custom GreaterFilter that does do what you want but it would not be used by the QueryBuilder or CohQL.

Is it the best practice to use Month Name as name of the column?

We need to store many data elements (like Balance, Cost, Budget etc) for each account for varying time periods (month end, month to date, quarter end , quarter to date etc) for at least 5 years before archiving them.
To achieve the best performance for reporting, what would be the good design for this table (there will not be any transactional queries against table. It is meant to be for reporting purpose)?
Is it good to use a Time Dimension table and add the Dimension key to the main table?
OR
Have 2 tables (monthly and quarterly).
Monthly Table will be having Account No, Amount Type, Year, and Month 1 through Month 12 as column names
Quarterly Table will be having Account No, Amount Type, Year, and Quarter 1 through Quarter 4 as column names
Please suggest the best design for this requirement.

Having two tables will be redundant. There should be one table with columns Account, Balance, Cost, Budget etc ... Date(Balance as of date) .
Then you can have views that pull your specific reports whether it is monthly or quarterly based on the dates.
You are looking at it from a displayed report prospective.. and I don't think that is the best way to store data. If you store it as suggested you can then display it however you want.

Forcing created by field to use alias name

You can apply
JavaScript with Client Object Model to the NewForm.aspx page to meet your requirement.
A possible solution can be like this: When user opens the NewForm.aspx page of the current list, the custom JavaScript will be executed to get information about the
current user, then query the other list for the default value, set the value to the drop down list of the “Business Unit” column dynamically. The JavaScript can be added into a Content Editor Web Part and insert into the NewForm.aspx page.

Share songs and create tracks between users using only iPhones

Me and a friend from out of state want to collaborate on tracks but we only have iPhones. We like garage band, how can we do this. Right now we think the only option is to have 1 iTunes account that we share. It seems like there should be a better option but we cannot figure it out. Please help.

To share GarageBand projects as project and not as audio file, you can either save the project in iCloud or share the project to a Mac, mail it, then upload it from another mac
Both options are not feasable for you, since you have only iPhones and not macs as well. And the iCloud solution would require you to be using the same AppleID on your iPhones and share your iCloud, including mail, contacts, ....
As a workaround - you can solo the tracks and mail each track as audio file.

Checking for month name and number in different language?

I have to let people search for documents by date. The database is used by French-speakers as well as English-speakers. The search allows users to type in free text (because it's not just dates they might search by, though if they do type in something that's intended to be interpreted as a date, that's the only thing they're allowed to type in). So, I might get '23/Apr/2009' or '2009/04/23', for example. (I also have to allow them to submit 23.04.2009 and 23 04 2009 and any combination of the above!)
I have written a function which breaks the string into three bits, and then I work out if each bit is a year, or a month, or a day with simple rules (eg, if it's a number between 1900 and 2400, it must be the year component).
When it comes to the month, I do two things. One is obvious: is it a number between 1 and 12? The other is, is it a month name that appears in a list of 'allowed' month names. So my function does this at the start:
v_validmonths := 'january,february,march,april <and so on>';
v_validmonths := v_validmonths || ',janv,fevr,avr,mai, <and so on>';Then I do this:

And that's where my problem arises. Because although "aout" is valid French for August and is permitted by my list of valid months, the extract function fails to understand it. A simple select extract (month from to_date('AOUT','MON')) from dual, for example, gives an ORA01843 (invalid month).
How can I get the code to work with French (and German, actually) months and month abbreviations whilst also being able to understand English ones? Is there an in-built function that would allow me to do this? Or is there some way neatly to say, 'yes: AOUT is in the list, and it's month 8' without me having to rely on the extract function to work it out?
(I realise that the business requirement here is very peculiar and your first reaction will probably be "this is horrible!". I will absolutely agree with you! But this is the requirement as has been explicitly specified by the MD and I can't negotiate it away, sadly.)

Many of Oracle's date functions allow a parameter where you can override the current NLS settings only for that function call.
For example:

FROM    DUAL;You could also create your own table of month names
NAME     NUM     LANGUAGE

Sorting Month Name

I have a dimension object - "Month" with values - 1, 2, 3, 4 as of now as the current month is April. I have created a variable for the "Month Name".
The formula is given below.
If (Month = 1) Then "Jan"
Elseif (Month = 2) Then "Feb"
Elseif (Month = 3) Then "Mar"
Elseif (Month = 4) Then "Apr"
Elseif (Month = 5) Then "May"
And so on ......
Now, my report has a cross-tab showing monthly employee hours. When using the "Month" object, I am able to sort it in ascending (1,2,3,4) or descending order (4,3,2,1). But, when I use the "Month Name" object, the months are not in order. I sorted the object with custom sort, but, since there is only data till the current month, I am only able to get - Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr in the report. In this case, when data is available for the next month, I will have to rearrange the sorting order again. Could anyone please tell me what I need to do in order for the "Month Name" column to automatically sort in order as new Month data becomes available (i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June, July, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec)? 2)Now Create condition rule in 4.x , alterter in 3.x
3)Click on formula and enter the formula you had wirtten or add the month name in that
4) Now you will see the month names intead of month number on cross tab column

1) Place the month number on cross tab
2) place the month name above the month number in cross tab column
3)Now right click on cross tab and hide the month number dimension

Hi Leong, if you have the date object, ¿what database are you using? Maybe you can use some database functions in the universe and avoid the IF statement
Another way, is to have a formula in your excel, like this: =TEXT(DATE(2000;E2;1);"mmm")
If you put this formula in G2 and then drag up to G13, then you use this column instead of column E

Tutorial: Creating, saving and re-using Custom Shapes

I've beeen experimenting with custom shapes for the last couple of days, and thought I'd share some of the tips and techniques I found.
First of all, what are custom shapes?
Well, they're vector objects. That means that they are not built out of millions of individual pixels (like images are), but rather they're a series of mathematical statements that describe how to draw a line from point to point to create the vector shape. This means that custom shapes are "resolution independent", and that they can be grossly shrunk or enlarged and still retain razor sharp edges, curves and corners.
What are custom shapes good for?
Pretty much anything where you want to use a good, sharp object. In particular, using a custom shape as a clipping mask for an image that's been placed as a Smart Object is an outstanding technique, and really shows off the power that PSE is capable of.
PSE comes with a lot of ready-to-use custom shapes for its Custom Shape tool, and there are probably hundreds of thousands available on the Web -- just search for "photoshop shapes". Typically, those shapes will be supplied as Adobe CSH (Custom SHape) files, and simply copying the CSH files into the
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Presets\Custom Shapes"
directory will make them available for use with the Custom Shape tool.
Sooner or later, though, you'll get the itch to create your own custom shapes. Out of the box, PSE does not have the capability to let you create custom shapes and add them to the CSH files like the "big" Photoshop does, so we'll need to use a workaround: store your custom shapes as layers in a PSD file, and when you want to use them simply copy them into your image.
N.B.: To create custom shapes you'll have to use the reasonably priced Elements+ add-in:

So, the procedure goes like this:
Create a new image, using the PSE defaults, and save it as "CustomShapes01.psd", keeping it open.
Open an image containing an object that you want to use as a custom shape.
Use any of the selection tools to make an accurate selection of the object:
In the Effects panel, use the Elements+...Paths effect and choose the Create New Path...From Current Selection:
Use the Elements+...Paths again, choosing "Convert to Shape", giving it a name and colour of your choosing. This will create a Shape Layer using that name.
Important: If your shape has "holes",
use the Shape Selection tool and click on the shape to select it. Then hit the "Combine" button in the Options Bar. This will combine all the individual shapes used to create the shape and its "holes" into one shape, and prevent beaucoup problems later.
Switch to the Move tool and drag the shape onto the tab of your "CustomShapes01.psd" image, keeping your mouse button pressed. That image will become activated and you can move your cursor onto the image itself and drop your shape onto it. Your PSD file will now have your custom shape as a shape layer:
Save that "CustomShapes01.psd" file.
You can repeat the process for as many custom shapes as you want, and they will each become a layer in the "CustomShapes01.psd" file.
To use your custom shape, open the "CustomShapes01.psd" file and your target image and do the drag and drop with the Move tool to copy the custom shape onto your target image.
I mentioned that using a custom shape as a clipping mask for an image placed as a Smart Object is a very powerful technique. It's powerful because the custom shape can be altered at any time and still keep its sharpness, and because the Smart Object can also be resized without becoming pixellated. Of course, that custom shape layer can have any number of layer styles applied to it and those layer styles will "follow" the shape if the shape is moved, resized or rotated.
Here are three examples of using the custom shapes as clipping masks for Smart Objects:
In this example, each custom shape is used as a clipping mask for an image Smart Object, as usual:
Here, one custom shape was used as a clipping mask for an image Smart Object and they were linked.
Then the shape and image were duplicated and moved, rotated and resized. Because of the linking, the Smart Object automatically kept its orientation and size relative to the custom shape throughout:
If you want to use custom shapes as a "combined" clipping mask, the procedure is a little more complicated because you need to get all your custom shapes on one shape layer.
So, after copying your shapes into the target image (as separate shape layers), use the Shape Selection tool to select one of the shapes. Using Edit...Cut will cut that shape layer to the Clipboard, and you can select one of the other shape layers and use Edit...Paste to paste the custom shape into that shape layer. Repeat as necessary, and you will get all of your custom shapes on one shape layer. Then use that single shape layer as your clipping mask:
The neat thing is that the individual shapes can be selected with the Shape Selection tool and independently moved, resized or rotated as necessary.

Between-Filter on Column using calculated presentation-variable values

i'd like to know whether it is possible to filter a column with a Between-Statement using two calculations done on a single presentation variable in Oracle BI Answers
What i have:
- OBIEE 10g
A line-chart, which shows earnings over a period of several years: In 1999 it might be 100.000€, in 2000 it might be 80.000€,..., in 2009 it might be 95.000€ and so on.
What i want:
Now i'd like to create a dashboard prompt to be able to choose a certain year, for example 2006.
The chart then should show data for the year given (2006...) and two years before(2004, 2005) and two years after the chosen year(2007,2008).
Example:
If 2006 is chosen, then data from 2004 to 2008 should be shown in the chart
If 2000 is chosen, then data from 1998 to 2002 should be shown in the chart.
What i did:
- I created the Prompt, set its presentation variable to var_year.
- I then created a filter on my years-column, choosing "Between" from the DropDown-List.
- I added two 'Variable-fields within the filter-dialogue', each filled with var_year and a default value.
- I tried to add a +2 or -2 to the variable-expression field, but (ofcourse) got an error.

I have to admit that i was unable to solve my problem, although the solutions posted, seemed to be quite promising.

First, I gave Hammett81's solution a try and created a filter group using the 'Add filter' option/dialogue box.
This Filtergroup consists of 5 single filter expressions, which have been connected by ORs:
The way i created those filters:
In the 'Create/ Edit Filter' i've chosen 'is equal/ is in' - Operator.
Then i was given the chance to add a 'value' or to add 'Variable --> Presentation', which summons 2 textboxes (Variable Expression and Default)
Everything i put into the variable expression field will be put into the @{} bracket by OBIEE, after clicking ok.
So it is not possible to use +1, +2, -1,-2 etc. within this field, as this would lead to @{var_year +2} for example, which ofcourse does not match the presentation variable's name.
On the other hand, if i do not use a Variable Expression but a "Value field", then i can write @{var_year} +2 for example.
In my opinion, obiee wants to use the expression as a simple value though, rather than use it as a variable and therefore won't check the presentation variables value, when it tries to filter the data.

Regarding Johns answer, i am not sure where to put the filter expression. Should this be added into the SQL-Query (Advanced-Tab) or do i have to add it within the columns formula? (fx)

There is an error in the TypeDescriptors of Parameters on Method with Name 'CustomerToOrder' on Entity (External Content Type) with Name 'Customer' in Namespace 'BdcAssociationSample.BdcModel1'. The TypeDescriptors incompletely define where the Foreign
Identifiers of Entity 'Order' in Namespace 'BdcAssociationSample.BdcModel1' are to be read. That Entity expects exactly '1' Identifiers, but only '0' TypeDescriptors with the correct Association were found from which to read them.

According to your post, my understanding is that you got the symbols not loaded error.
First try rebuilding your project by right mouse click the project > Rebuild If that doesn't work, try a clean of the project (right mouse click on the project > clean)
If that didn't work check this:
Right mouse click your project
select [Properties]
select the [Build] tab
make sure [Define DEBUG constant] and [Define TRACE constant] are checked
Click the [Advanced] button at the bottom of the Build tabpage
Make sure that [Debug Info:] is set to [full]
Click [OK] and rebuild the project ;
Hope that works for you! (step 6 generates the .pdb files, these are the debugging symbols)
What’s more, you can clean & re-compile the code, then install the respective dlls one more time to GAC (just remove them before adding to GAC again), do an IISReset to check whether it works.
