Create a custom swatch textile pattern

Hi,
Yet another noob.
First off - is there anyway to edit the textile pattern swatches in AI? There is a pattern of lines I like but not in the right color. If not then I guess I need to create my own.
What I want is a pattern of colored lines (pink and white) close together that run at a 45 degree angle from bottom to top. I think I am supposed to draw a rectangle and then create each line and then save this as a custom swatch? Is there a better way of doing this to ensure spacing consistency??

I concur with Kurt. This by all means should be easy enough and while the AI help is hugely ominous and incomprehensible to the uninitiated otherwise (it is simply incomplete, poorly written and contains wrong information), that part is explained resonably well. Also read up/ search this forum on how to replace/ update swatches and symbols using drag to artboard and (Alt-)drag back to the palette....

Pattern Swatch From Pattern Maker Filter

Is there a way to copy a new custom Pattern Swatch that you create using the Pattern Maker filter? I have often created a pattern that worked perfect but could only apply it to a layer. I want to be able to save just the custom swatch that patterns correctly so that I can use it as a repeating background image on a website.
I know I should know this, but it's something that I've never been able to figure out, or find in the Help Menu.

For some reason it tiles right when I apply the pattern to a large background. But when I attempt to create a simple square tile, even the same size as I started with, and attempt to use it as a repeating background on a web page, you can see the tiling.

Sounds good on paper Welles. But I can't get it to work right. I still see the tiling when I save the file out this way and use it as a background.
I don't need this for anything urgent. And I know I can make something work for when I need it. The pattern I'm working with has a lot of texture so when it repeats outside of applying it in Photoshop, it just doesn't match up right. I had hoped there would be an easy way to capture the custom Pattern Maker Tile as a single image that could be used to repeat itself without seeing the tiling.
Maybe this would be a good feature request. Thanks for both of your input.

Custom Swatch Palette (beta)

Hi yall,
I created this custom swatch palette which allows a person to keep swatch info in this palette and instantiate it in documents. The palette can store notes about a particular swatch and there is a save button somewhere which will save your palette state as an xml file.

Custom Swatch Libraries color shift

I created a custom swatch library for my client in Illustrator. RGB values.
I loaded the library in a new document (RGB Color Mode) and filled an element with one of these loaded swatch colors.
When I double-clicked the color in the fill box, the RGB color values had shifted slightly. Why is this?
When I double-clicked the same color in the Swatch panel, the color values remained accurate.

It's a collection of logo versions. Some for web, some for print.
Sounds like I'd need the following Libraries (this is getting complicated and confusing--am I too far in the weeds on this or right where I should be?):
1. Pantones for Print.
Create a document with a Print Profile, set the document color mode to CMYK.
Open the Pantone+ Solid Coated Library, and bring in the given colors.
*Here's the thing though. Illustrator CC's Pantone values for RGB and CMYK don't match the RGB and CMYK values in Pantone+ Color Bridge Book exactly.
So what do I do? Also create a CMYK Library of CMYK equivalents that do match the Pantone+ Color Bridge Book? Because when Illustrator does the conversion, it's way off.
2. Pantones for Web.
Create a document with a Web Profile, set the document color mode to RGB.
Open the Pantone+ Solid Coated Library, and bring in the given colors.
Then also create an RGB Library of RGB equivalents that do match the Pantone+ Color Bridge Book?
This would total 4 Libraries. Pantones for Print. CMYK. Pantones for Web. RGB.

I have created some custom swatch files in Photoshop and would like use them in InDesign as well - but I can't find them! They are always there and available for use in PS, but I cannot find them anywhere on my hard drive. The "Color Swatches" file under "Presets" in PS contains just the swatches that came with the software; I have searched the hard drive for other *.aco files or folders containing such files, but turned up nothing.
Any ideas?

Creating Custom Swatches

Is there a way in Illustrator CS3 or CS4 to add individual swatches or a group of swatches that have specific names for my workflow into the swatches panel? I have found that I can do this with a new document with the "New Document Profile" and also I can load a custom swatch library in Illustrator.
I would like a few certain swatches to always show up in the swatches panel, or to quickly load them, without browsing thru several windows.
Do I need a script to do this?

You do not need a script but yu do this I copied it from my post on another thread.
The way yo do this is go to the Users/Username/Library/Application
Support/Adobe/US_en/Adobe Illustrator CS 4/New Document Presets/Print
if that is the preset you use to create new files or any of the others
or do this to all of preset files.
You open the file in AI and you take your the colors you want as
swatches and load them in the swatches panel and delete all the others
and save the file or save as and over write the file. Yu n then import
those swatches into the other presets and you save those as well to
the same location overwriting the originals.
Now when you open a new document for print or any other preset you
have only the colors you want.

How to create a custom tag for a custom converter

In Jdeveloper 11g, I have a project where I have created a custom converter class that impements the javax.faces.convert.Converter class. I have registered the converter with an id in the faces-config.xml file of the project, and the converter works fine by using the <f:converter type="myconverter"> tag. However, the custom converter has a field which I would like to set from the tag itself. Hence, I would like to add an attribute to <f:converter> tag if possible or create a custom tag that has the attribute.
I have done some reserach and I found that a custom tag can be implemented: I need to create a class which extends from the ConverterTag class or javax.faces.webapp.ConverterElTag class, which I did, but I also need to create ".tld" (tag library) file which defines the tag itself.
The part about creating the ".tld" file and registring the new tag is what I'm not sure how to do.
Does someone know how to do this?

that's a good document, and it explains how to make a custom converter. I already created the custom converter, it converts a number to any currency pattern. I know java already has a currency converter, but it doesn't support Rupee currency format, and I need that format.
My converter works, but I would like to pass the pattern of the format through an attribute in a tag. Since f:converter doesn't seem to support that, I created a custom tag which uses my converter, and it enables me to pass a pattern to the converter.
All of that works, but I need to be able to pass the pattern as an EL expression, and it's not evaluating the expression before passing it to the converter. It just passes the whole expression as a string. I'm thinking It may be something I'm doing wrong.

Custom Swatch Panel

Hello,
I want to create a custom color swatch panel for Illustrator. But I cant figure out a way to add swatches to the panel and drag/drop them into file.
Kindly guide me to an example or the steps required to build such a panel. I'm new to flex sdk

There's no example or good set of steps for doing that. Getting a list of swatches in the document is fairly easy (AISwatchListSuite) but turning that into nice thumbnails of the swatches is actually something AI doesn't provide. We have to internally render them off-screen and convert them into our own image class for rendering in our UI (we use Qt). I don't know what you'd have to do to turn that into icons for CS Extensions, since I've never used that.
Drag & drop is a whole other problem. That'll be entirely CS Extensions though. Assuming you have them rendered nicely in your panel, and the extension API lets you do things like drag & drop into the file, it would be fairly easy to apply the specified swatch to the object. I'd be surprised if that D&D functionality was there though. But I know very little of the CS Extension Manager so don't trust my opinion on that!

Creating a new swatch palette

I can't find this in the Help or Manual, so can anyone help me with this please?
In Photoshop CS5, how can I create a new custom swatch palette for a project I'm working on? I'd like to create a blank palette that I can add my own named swatches to, and load as needed.
Of course, then the question is: what's the name of PS's default palette, so I can bring it back when I move on to other things?

To make your own custom swatches palette, edit the default one you have. From the swatches flyout menu choose >> save swatches.
Then use load swatches to load these into other projects.

Once I have created and saved a custom swatch library - lets call it "custom"
How would I add a new colour to "custom" - or edit a colour value in "custom" - is this new swatch library locked?

Common custom swatch libraires

I have several custom swatch libraires that I'd like to share among all my Adobe apps & macs. Is there a commom place that I can put them, so I dont have to copy to every Swatch Libraries folder for each app? I'd like to have 1 common place to put them, so that Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign for CS6 & CC would see them. I'm usually adding more custom swatches and was trying to avoid copy to 6 different places, then to multiple machines.

Maybe if you ask nicely on the Scripting forums - perhaps someone could create a script to use your .ase files to update all your swatches across apps.
I don't know how to do it - so I'll leave it at that.

Color swatch vs. pattern swatch

Whenever I try to create a new CMYK color swatch it automatically opens pattern swatch name panel. Why won't it let me create a color swatch?

Thanks for responding. I just started using Illustrator CC and I couldn't make a new swatch. When I dragged color blocks from the paste board to the color panel it would show up in the patterned swatches. I was trying to update some old files so instead I just opened new files and started over. It's working now but it would be easier to use the already formatted CS6 files. Hmmmmm

Custom swatches. Where do I put them?

I recently downloaded some custom paper swatches from Neenah Paper to use with a letterhead design I'm creating. Where is the best place to save custom paper swatches on my Mac? Is there a common folder I can put them in that will allow me to share the custom swatches amongst all of my Adobe apps?

The Neenah downloads are .ase files so you have to load them into the app's swatches panel. In ID if you load them without any docs open they will be in the panel for every new document.
The swatches Neenah is providing are spot color ink swatches defined as CMYK, so I don't really see how they would be useful for simulating a paper. In InDesign there's only one Paper swatch [Paper] so if you want to try and simulate ink on a colored paper, edit the [Paper] swatch and turn on Overprint while you work.

Creating a custom datasource

I saw one example in jmf website "LiveStream", in which we can play the video with RGP format(custom data). They will create the video data in RGP format and we can create the test pattern. have any body tried that, if you are able to do that, kindky let me know that.

Why do my custom swatches revert to RGB mode?

I'm a newbie to Illustrator. I have a few questions:
When I create custom swatches, I choose the CYMK option in the drop down box. However, these swatches are appearing as "RGB" mode in my swatch palette. Why is that? How do I ensure my custom swatches stay in CMYK mode?
When I later view the CMYK code for the swatches, I see that their numbers are skewed a little (for example, 34 may be 35 or 36, etc). Why is that?

When you create a new document, make sure the color mode of the document matches with the swatch color mode. i.e if you're creating a new document in RGB and then using a CMYK swatch then the numbers will be converted to RGB. Make sure the document is also created in CMYK color mode by expanding the advaced options in new document creation dialog box.
