Create a databse link to oracle 11g database
Hi All,
I have installed oracle 10g express edition n Apex 4.0.2 verion.
Now i want to connect 11g database to Apex. When i try to connect,
it prompts me an error saying;
Error Testing Database Link.
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied ORA-02063: preceding line from PRODSTDBY
And at the same time i can connect a 10g database successfully.. is this because of oracle db versioning issue ???
if yes, how can i able to overcome from this issue...????
please somebody help me to solve this......
Thanks in Advance,
Max
Telnet is not running on the server, I tried starting it, but it failed. When trying to connecting from my local machine through telnet, it is giving the following error:*Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed*.
I am able to connect to the machine through SSH(putty).
Is there any other way to test if port 1521 is accepting connections?
Thanks,
Rajesh.

Oracle 11g database link to Oracle 8
Hi,
database-links from an Oracle 11g to an Oracle 8-Database seem to do not work:
The error in enterprise manager is: socket error (translated from german).
There are no alerts at the Oracle 11g-Database.
On the other (Oracle 8) side, the alert we have is an "internal error"
Has anybody else that experience, and maybe a solution?
Thx a lot for your help

Hi All,
Why are you hijacking someone else's thread? This just makes it harder to deal with the OP's issue, even if you think it is closely related to yours, and you haven't given any indication that it is at all related.
I have a DB link called "appdb.message.oracle.com".
In 10g "select * from table@appdb;" is working fine but in 11g not.
Why so?
I have two cars in my garage. One works. One doesn't. Why so?
Some description of "not working" would be helpful. Actual ora-nnnnn error messages even more so.
In 11g if i create DB link with the name "appdb" only then the query "select * from table@appdb;" is working fine.
Is there any update in 11g regarding this DB link names.
Plz help me out..
Help us to help you by giving us some clues. Given my comments above, preferably in your own thread.

Oracle Tuxedo 8.1 With Oracle 11g Database
Hi,
I have an old application that must be compiled with oracle 8.1 and Oracle9i Database.
We are migrating to Oracle 11g Database, and now we have some inssues to compile with Oracle 11g Database. For example some Libraries that the Tuxedo XA Resource Manager needs from the Oracle Database, that just u can found on older versions like Oracle9i (kpudfo.o file).
what can be the solution for that problem?
An Oracle 11g database config or a Tuxedo config ?Hi,
When you say "Tuxedo XA Resource Manager" I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean the Tuxedo transaction management servers (TMS) servers that are built with the buildtms command? If so, if there are linking errors, it has to do with either your library paths or the RM definition for Oracle Database in the $TUXDIR/udataobj/RM file. Tuxedo itself only uses the XA switch from the resource manager such as Oracle database. Now the resource manager may require a bunch of libraries, which is why I suggested you check your library path. If the above doesn't help, can you post the error you are getting and what is generating/creating the error?

Todd Little

How to make data base link from oracle 11g r2 to microsoft sql 2008 express
I need to make data base link from oracle 11g r2 to microsoft sql 2008 express to make replication between then
please help me !
I didn't know what is the user and password in the command which create database linkTo replicate data you can ude Database Gateway for ODBC or Database Gatewy for MS SQl Server. Please use the search engine of this forum if you ant to get more details about each product.
Some SQl Servers are set up to use Windows authentication only. In this case you won't be able to connect to the SQL Server as Windows authentication isn't supported with the gateways. You have to make sure your SQL server is supporting username and password authentication - a common user is the "sa" user. Regarding the username/password, please get in touch with your SQL Server Admin. -
Establish 32-bit ODBC connection to 64-bit Oracle 11g database
Hi Everyone,
Just to set the scene:
PC with Windows 2003 server x64 OS installed, Oracle 11g 11.1.0.7 64-bit installed and MS Office 2007 installed.
I am looking for advice on the best way to establish an ODBC link so that MS Access 2007 (32-bit) can connect to the Oracle 11g (64-bit) database.
There are known issues, see [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942976|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942976] (which I have hit) when attempting to use a 64-bit ODBC DSN within MS Access 2007. This means that I need to setup and install an Oracle 11g 32-bit ODBC driver to be used against the Oracle 11g database (TNS listener also running 64-bit).
Any thoughts on the best approach I should take to do this?
Regards,
Leigh.The more information section of the MS support article doesn't give me much to go on other than to explain the differences in how user and system DSNs are displayed and managed between the 2 different bit versions of ODBC administrator and how this information is stored in the different registries (64-bit and WOW64).
I have been able to install 32-bit Oracle11g instantclient and its ODBC driver successfully and then in turn create the 32-bit ODBC DSN, however I am unable to connect to the 64-bit database when I attempt to test the DSN. I have updated the Windows PATH environment variable to include both the path of the Oracle11g DB server and instantclient homes as well as creating a TNS_ADMIN environment variable to point to the location of the Oracle11g TNSNAMES.ORA and the 64-bit 11g listener. However despite this I still get the error when testing the DSN:
Unable to connect
SQLState=S1000

Error while creating a JDBC connection to Oracle 11g using WLS 6.1
Hi
I am trying to connect to Oracle 11g database on Weblogic 6.1 server.
First of all i would like to know if this is compatible?
The environement that i have is this
1. JDK 1.3
2. Database 11g is on remote system
3. Oracle client on my local system ( Connecting to the 11g DB through the client works fine)
4. Weblogic server 6.1
5. Currently the application is connected to Oracle 10g DB and working fine(We are attempting to move it to 11g)
Below are the steps that i followed to create the connection:
1. Made an entry for the datasource in config.xml under <WLS_DOMAIN>/config folder as below
<JDBCConnectionPool DriverName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
MaxCapacity="4" Name="CADConnectionPool"
Properties="user=abc_proxy;password=proxy_abc;dll=ocijdbc8;protocol=thin"
RefreshMinutes="5" ShrinkPeriodMinutes="10" Targets="CAsvr"
TestConnectionsOnRelease="true" TestConnectionsOnReserve="true"
TestTableName="dual" URL="jdbc:oracle:thin:@gen11t-ora.db.lab.xyz.com:1530:GEN11T"/>
2. Restarted the server.
3. Ran the application and get the following error on the server console:
<Aug 22, 2011 12:39:42 AM CDT> <Error> <JDBC> <Cannot startup connection pool "C

What should i do with an Oracle 11g Database, MySQL database and a dump file.
I just joining to a new work field, almost about a database and i know "NOTHING" about this field.
My company has a system that running by Oracle Database, the problem is that Oracle Database will cost a lot of money when my company expands.
So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
Of course i cant try to convert it in the main Database, so i create one Oracle 11g Database on my LocalHost, and it already actived in " Localhost:1158 " etc.
I have another Sever test that already set up MySQL database, and a dump file from the system.
So I want to ask these 2 questions :
1. How to create an new Oracle Database from that dump file ?
2. Is it alright if i use tool to convert Oracle Database into MySql, or i should do it manually ?
Thanks alot.I just joining to a new work field, almost about a database and i know "NOTHING" about this field.
My company has a system that running by Oracle Database, the problem is that Oracle Database will cost a lot of money when my company expands.
So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
I predict that converting to MySQL will cost your company more as it expands. As you expand managing contention becomes more important - Oracle does this for you. I do not think MySQL does, so you'll have to write more code to deal with this, costing the company money. A big part of making application scalable and reliable is to use stored procedures, how good are MySQL's compared to PL/SQL's. What other features are there that MySQL has that will benefit your company that Oracle doesn't. What do you need to think about as your company expands that need to be taken care of in the database. I would have thought a migration from MySQL to Oracle would be more common to deal with expansion.
As you know "NOTHING" you need to think about what each database can give you for the next 10 years to cope with you businesses potential requirements, and extimate how much it will cost to implement these requirements, then make the decision -
What are the privileges required for explain plan in Oracle 11g database
I am facing the problem in doing a explain plan for a view in Oracle 11g database. When I select from the view like this:
select * from zonewisearpu
It does a select on the view but when I give explain plan like
explain plan for
select * from zonewisearpu
I get the error like insufficient privileges.
Please let me know if things are getting missed out as I guess system level privileges are required to execute this.
I hope, my question is clear.
It’s a humble request to revert urgently if possible as I need to complete a task and do not know the way out.
Regards975148 wrote:
Thanks for your reply. I have found out that an explain plan is possible on the user's own objects and is not possible on the granted objects from a different schema. For eg, if I do a explain plan on a view querying on tables from a different view, it would not allow the explain plan to proceed. This could mean that explain plan needs different privileges than just a select.
Requesting for a revert to this.
Here is a simple test case that I have perfomed
SQL> create user test1 identified by test1;
User created.
SQL> create user test2 identified by test1;
User created.
SQL> grant connect, resource to test1,test2;
Grant succeeded.
SQL> create table test1.tab1 as select * from v$session;

SQL> connect test2/test1
Conencted.
SQL> show user
USER is "TEST2"
SQL>
SQL> explain plan for
2 select sid,serial#,status,username from test1.tab1 where username<> '';
Explained.

So, as can be seen I am able to do a explain plan from user test2 for tables belong to user test1.

Hi,
I downloaded the 11G 64bit for windows and unzipped the files into one folder and ran the setup.exe as an administrator. It opened up the java screen and I chose, create and configure a database. Next screen I chose, Desktop Class, when I click next it dies. It does not show me teh next screen. I went to the appdata folder and saw this error but not sure what to do EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005). Please help. Thanks for your time and help.Adipur wrote:
Hello, have you tried to create new administrator user, and install using that newly created user...?You found this to be a band-aid solution in your specific instance. (Strange case of installation on windows 7 - unable to complete installation But you have drawn the wrong conclusions and never found the real issue in the cited thread. Under the circumstances, I would not be offering this up as a generalized solution, as you are doing in this thread and in others:

I have been doing Oracle DBA work since v 7.3, and have never seen advice like this to be anything more than a work-around the real issue.

Factors for increase in memory occupied by Oracle 11g database
I wanted to know all the possible factors which can account for the increase in the memory required for an Oracle 11g database. Let’s take an example,
1) Say if the memory allocated for an Oracle 11g instance is 8GB which is 50% of the memory of 16GB allocated to the machine on which Oracle 11g is installed.
2) The max sessions are 300.
With this example in mind, I had the following queries:
1) Is the memory taken by 100 sessions or 300 sessions going to be within the limit of 8GB allocated to the Oracle?
2) Say if the max sessions is increased to 400, would the memory taken the 100 extra sessions would be within 8GB or would that be extra?
I hope my query is clear.
Please revert with the reply to my query.
RegardsMemory is allocated for the session only when that session is created by the listener, and the memory used by that session will fluctuate depending on the workload it's doing.
300 or 400 it won't pre-allocate all the memory for the fixed maximum number of sessions, it's dynamic. What oracle does is allocated all the memory you gave it in the PGA and the SGA and will do it's best to work with it for the current workload, it won't suddenly eat more memory without you telling it's okay to.
The only scenario I could see this happening is if you have a lot of sessions and a small PGA. In that case, oracle does go ahead and eat more memory than you gave it because it can't make due with the current PGA. So it eats more memory so sessions can be created and maintened. See PGA over- allocation.
To quote the good ol' docs:
Over allocating PGA memory can happen if the value ofPGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET is too small. When this happens, the Oracle Database cannot honor the value ofPGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET and extra PGA memory needs to be allocated. -
"post installation requesties of oracle 11g database in windows"
Plz can any one tell me what are the post installation requesties of oracle 11g database installation in windows?
thanks & Regards
Vikash
"All Izz Well"Hi,
before installing check c:\> setup.exe -debug
after installation
You need to create service using oradim utility. with proper account
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32006/postcfg.htm
as per database
1)check for invalid objects in the database. select count(*) from dba_objects where status='INVALID'
if persists run @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
2)check the invalid from registry select comp_name,status from dba_registry;
3)compare the objects before & after activity.
THanks

Edited by: user10676396 on May 6, 2009 7:43 PMHello Kalyan,
A couple questions:
1. Once you installed the 11G database, you did start the database services, yes?
2. Do you have a properly configured TNSNAMES.ORA file that points to your database?
3. You created a database that you are using and can access the database via SQLPlus?

Pl post details of your OS version, along with which 11g version you are trying to install. Are you following the steps in the official installl Guides - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/documentation/database-093888.html ?
I am not sure why you are acting surprised that the install was not successful when you are ignoring install warnings/errors :-)
As indicated in the thread link above, have you downloaded and unzipped both of the install zip files into the same directory ?
Pl also post relevant sections from the install log that show what prereq checks have failed.

SriniI copied the disk 2 component into disk 1 component folder where the installation is successful but prerequiresite still failed where i just ignore where i have set all the env variable.
By the way, thanks for your reply.
