Create a Simple Bar Chart - Numbers

I would like to create a bar chart in numbers that totals line items by month and displays a bar chart by month.  Column A has dates associated with the other columns of the spreadsheet running horizontal.  Does the charts functionality have a tool that would count by month, or is there a formula that can be used, or would applescript be needed to run the count?
hope this makes sense.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response.  So the simplest view of the chart is below.  I would like to have a bar chart that would just total line events by month.  From the below example, august would have 2 and september would have 1.
Let me know if you would need more information.

    It should be simple.
Lets say you have X - Axis with values (AA, BB, CC etc). and Y-Axis bars with values (10, 15, 25)
You will have to give onchange of the X-Axis. and in the bottom (Show Values) you will have to chose Y Axis (SUM/Avg/Max) what ever you desire.
If you simply want to show the values without the summary operation, create a Formula field and insert it under Show Values. You will have to check the Don't summarize values.

    Hi
Are you using BI query? If yes then follow the steps -
    1. Take Sales org in rows of BI query. & take invoice type & Key figure in Columns.
    2. In VC use this query & drag chart from the output of this query.
    3. Right click on chart & go to 'Configure Element'. There select Chart Type as 'Bar chart'
    4. Below that you will get default option as clustered, there you select 'Stacked'
    5. Create Data series as per your requirement.
    6. Arrange proper layout of the model & then deploy.
You will get required output in stacked format.

  • How do I create a stacked bar chart - Crystal Excelsius 4.5

How do I create a stacked bar chart using Crystal Excelsius 4.5?  I do not see the stacked bar chart in my components window.  - Erik

I just opened an old file that I created with Crystal Excelsius and I see the stacked bar chart visible in the components window of my old files.
Why has stacked bar chart disappeared from the components window in my new files?  It seems many of the components have "disappeared" including stacked bar, candlestick charts, area charts and most of the background components.

  • How to create "time sheet" bar chart?

    Hi Experts,
I am using Crystal Reports 2008 and I would like to ask the steps to create a time sheet liked bar chart with following information:
Imagine I collected the CPU usage of a computer every 30 seconds.
In the report layout, X-axis should be the time of date. Such as 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00. Y-axis should be the exact date. Such as 2009/05/01 to 2009/05/31. Highlight color should be applied to identify the usage. Such as <30% is gray, 30~70% is blue and >70% is red.
Here is my target layout: [timesheet|http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1292/timesheet.png]
I tried to use bar chart template but crystal report sum up the total duration, not the exact time. When using Gantt chart, it almost fulfilled my requirement. But the bars of same date is not aligned horizontal, just like stairs.
    Thanks a lot for help!

  • Using Sharepoint List Columns to create a simple trend chart

    Hello,
I am trying to use a single sharepoint list fields with as my data to create a chart.
I have only two columns I want to create the chart with: The date and time picker
column where the user picked a date and time and it is formatted accordingly and the Item ID.
I just want show how many items were created in each month and year. For e.g if there were 3 items created in between Jan 1st- 31st, 2014 then I want it to show a count of 3 for the month of Jan.
I used the MonthName and string conversion for the X axis and it seems to be showing the month and year, but I cannot get the items that were created to show up for each month.
    Any guidance is welcome!
I would like to create a trend chart that shows how many

    Hi PinkPowerRanger,
Per my understanding that you have two fields in the table "Date and Time picker" which is Date/time type and another is "Item ID", you need to get the Month from the Date field to display in the X-axis and count(Item ID) related to each
month to display in the Y-Axis, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can do this by create two calculated fields to get the month and year values from the Date/Time field.
Details information below for your reference:
Right click the main dataset to select the "Add Calculated field", specify an name of the new calculated field and add the expression in the field source as below:
    Year:    =Year(Fields!Date.Value)
    Month:  =MonthName(Month(Fields!Date.Value))
Add the three field in the Chart as below and remember in the Value area you have got the Count(ItemID) but not SUM(ItemID):
Preview you will got the chart like below:
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Create bar chart w/ X-axis

I have a simple spreadsheet as shown below: (Both Col B and Col C are NOT header columns)
    ColB ColC
    1 10
    2 20
    3 30
When I highlighted them and created a 2-D bar chart, Numbers treated the data in Col B and C as Y-axis data with X-axis being untitled.
However, what I want is Col B is X-axis and Col C is y-axis. The only way I can do that is set Col B as header column.
Is there any way I can do the same w/o header column??

    Joe,
Bar charts are Category Charts. Category charts must have Text, not Numeric, data for the category axis (what you are calling the X-Axis). You can try formatting Column B as Text before charting.

  • Numbers Charts:  Stacked bar chart with two sets of data

    Hi....newbie with first post
I'm trying to create a stacked bar chart with two lots of comparative data.
So, there is Basic + Overtime for April 2010 as one stack (ie the basic is one colour, stacked on top is the overtime in a different colour)
Basic + Overtime for April 2011 next to it.
I can get April figures next to one another as four separate columns (2 x basic, 2 x overtime), or I can get all four figures in a single stack, but I can't to two columns (one for each year) of basic and overtime.
    Any ideas?

    UK,
What you are trying to do will require that you interleave the two sets of two-series data into one longer two-set series, and then plot just the one pair of series. Clear as mud?
What I'm saying is that you have to fake out the program into thinking that you have just two sets, not four.
You will have one series that has, for instance Apr 2010 Basic, Apr 2011 Basic, May, 2010 Basic, May 2011 Basic, etc.. This other series in that chart will have Apr 2010 Overtime, Apr 2011 Overtime, May 2010 Overtime, May 2011 Overtime, etc.
The bad thing here (I'll anticipate your first complaint) is that 2010 and 2011 data will have the same color for Basic and another color will be assigned for both 2010 Overtime and 2011 Overtime.
To get separate color sets for 2010 and 2011 data pairs, you will have to create two charts and overlay them. Both charts would be built in the alternating year format described above, but in one chart all the 2010 data would be blank and in the other chart all the 2011 data would be blank, leaving spaces in the chart for the data from the other chart to nest in.

I've been struggling with trying to create the correct Bar chart on my crystal report XI. Status field = Open, ClosedSeverity field = Routine, Critical, Severe.I'm just trying to get the chart to look like this, the status field and severity field i'm pulling from ODBC database..

    Post Author: V361
    CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
I have CR XI, This should get you started.  in the Chart Expert (data tab) On change of dropdown, use Severity and Status, in Show Value(s) use sum of count, then to get the orders correct, click on the severity selection, click on order, select specified order, pick the selections in the order you want them to appear, you will need to do this with Status as well, to get the colors, click on the color highlight selection and add a highlight for Open and one for Close.

  • Stacked Bar Chart Question

Hi, I am creating a stacked bar chart, and I am encountering 3 issues I hope you can help me with:
    1)  The chart has positive and negative values.  I have zero based centerline checked, but I do not see 0 on the Y axis.
    2)  The applet width is 900 pixels.  The chart can have a variable number of bars.  When it has a small number of bars, they fill the entire chart.  Is there a way to set the width to a fixed amount?
    3)  Is there a way to set a logical interval amount?  Currently the numbering is not intuitive.
    Thanks
    p.s.  We are using 11.5.3
Edited by: Richard Keegan on Jun 13, 2008 5:18 PM

Depending upon your query structure, you can force a zero based centerline by setting the Y-axis ranges dynamically.  I am not working in 11.5.3 currently, but ran into a problem with line charts in 12.0.2.  The zero centerline flag did not work, so I dynamically generated the ranges and linked them in.
You can probably do the same with a little extra BLS coding.

    Hi Dinesh,
Create a dummy column -> fx write a case statement case when first measure > second measure then 1 elso 0 end
and chart -> Format chart data -> conditional tab -> Add Condition -> select your column on condition (dummy column equal to 1 then red color....)

  • Help with a stacked bar chart

I am attempting to create a stacking bar chart which expresses monthly sales goals and monthly actual sales together as one bar. Visually, it would look like a thermometer, with the sales goal rendered as an outline, and the actual sales filling in the outline. So both bars should start at 0.
Dollar amounts appear up the x-axis, and the months appear across the y-axis. There will be 12 bars per chart. Unfortunately, each month has a different goal.
Is there a way to create this type of chart, using only one chart? (Not by stacking two charts on top of each other.) My boss, who has requested this chart, will be updating it herself, and has told me she needs it to be as simple as possible.
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the bars to stack on top of each other, instead of adding together? Thank you for your time and assistance.

    Jody,
I'm sorry that I missed that you didn't want an overlay solution. You wrote it plainly, I just didn't read carefully.
This is as close as I could come to how I now read your request:
Here I have charted your Actual and a column of zeros that I have called the Goal Reference. The last column contains the goal values and I have used them as Positive Custom Error Bars for the Goal Reference series. I'm not thrilled with the look, but unless I know for sure that I'm on the right track, I'll leave it there for now. The width difference between the goal and the actual can be adjusted.
