Create Desktop Printer in Leopard

In Tiger, there was a neat way to set your printer on the desktop so you could just drop a document on there and it would print without having to open the Application. Can this still be done in Leopard and how? There is no Printer Setup Utility, just the Print & Fax in System Preferences.
Thanks

Yes it can be done. In Finder go help then search enter desktop printer and there aare a numeber of entries to walk you through the process.
My Samsung printer asked me if I wanted a desktop printer when I installed the driver. I said 'yes' and an icon appeared on my desktop.

  • Adobe Create PDF Desktop Printer

I have a 35 page pdf of construction plans for a project I am working on. I would like to print 6 of these pages into another pdf to send to my printer. When I select paper size ARCH D (24" x 36"), the pages are printed into a "file" file ..... there is no pdf or other designation and it is unreadable by Adobe. The origiinal 35 page set of plans is in 24 x 36 size.

    Bill,
It tells me to create a printer on my desktop. My HP Photosmart D110 Series Printer/Scanner is all that shows up in the START/DEVISES & PRINTERS Box. This Acrobat Reader came with my laptop new, four months ago. Just back from overseas & installing now.
I need help w/ the "Configure Printer" Screen I can't find it anywhere except the example "Configuire Printer Port Screen."
    Thanks man,

  • CreatePDF Desktop Printer does not print/create output

I have been triing to use the Desktop Printer for a wile now, since it was the main reason to go with CreatePDF Subcription.
I was able to install everything, Log-In under settings, and the printer shows up under my Windows Printers and I can print to it. However, after this, nothing happens. No PDF is created...
    What am I missing?

Please log into http://createpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html with your Adobe ID and password?
Do you see your converted files there?
If not, if you're running Windows 7, you may be encountering the issue described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html

  • Problem creating working Desktop Printer

I've been trying to create a Desktop Printer, as a possible solution to this problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6566111
My problem is it won't work; i.e. I can't print using the Desktop Printer, although I can print using the print command.
So far I've had the printer queue window just pausing the print (the actual printer doesn't seem to know about the job) and I also got this error at one point:
    /usr/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter failed
    It's a Canon CLC 3220 with a fiery controller.
    Any ideas?

    Christiaan wrote:
If it does work for a desktop printer, will it affect printing when doing the normal print menu command?
No. Printing from an application is not affected by the desktop printer as it seems that you cannot set any default for the printer. If the file is A4 or A3, then that is the size the printer uses. Setting the defaults via lpoptions and the CUPS browser does not influence the desktop printer. It certainly works for the lp and lpr submission via Terminal but it may be a case of what John suggested in his response, where the desktop printer acts like a spool dump to the ip address without taking any ppd settings into account.
    Note also I made a typo with the previous post. It should have read;
    lpoptions -p printername -o media=A3 -o scaling=50 ENTER
Note also that the printername is the name as shown in cups, not the name that appears in the Printers list.
Not that the suggestion works for the desktop printer, but I just wanted to correct my mistake.
    H1?
I meant the imagePASS-H1. As I said in my first reply, I don't have the iRC3200 with C1 so my response was based on the H1 which supports IPP and that is how I have configured it previously - although I configure our printers using HP JetDirect which is RAW Port 9100 on the RIP.
FYI - Since I was unable to get the desktop printer working, I started to look at services provided by the Fiery RIP. At a previous demonstration at Canon, I was shown a feature called Hot Folders. This lets you create a folder on your computer and you can drop a ps-based file, such as a pdf, into this folder and it will be retrieved by the RIP and printed. You can also set properties for the folder, such as paper source. Now we have this option with our imagePRESS-C1 with Fiery Q1 but it is not available with our iR C5185-H1. So this may also be the case with your C1/C2.
So it looks like you will have to rely on getting an alternate method working to the desktop printer working. There is a Windows app called Batch & Print Pro. Don't know if there is an equivalent for OS X?
    Good luck...

I just updated to Mavericks, then updated my Pages App. Now none of my previously created documents print out, except as blank pages, even though I can see the text on the documents, but with altered margins, on my computer screen. How do I fix this so the documents print out normally again?

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Printing in Leopard, how to escape lockdown?

OSX 10.5.4 server and client, with mostly network home users.
We have installed postscript drivers for these large multi-function Canon printer/copier units on each floor - we've found an interesting issue where our users need to supply an admin password the first time they select one of these Canon priners - when I take a look at the info for the admin password dialog box, I can see that /usr/sbin/lpadmin is requesting the right for system.preferences
Now, ideally I would like to be able to make this behavior stop but I know that printing in Leopard has become "more secure" -- in WGM that checkbox to "allow users to modify printer list" only works for 10.4 clients -- so I have decided that one way to circumvent this behavior would be to let some of my users be able to modify their systems. We're a school, so I'd want to allow my faculty and staff users to supply their username and password to make changes to printing, but not my student users.
I thought I could add my "allstaff" user-group to my sudoers file, and either allow them to run /usr/sbin/lpadmin or allow them to modify system.preferences but I haven't figured out the correct context to make it work.
I got the idea to modify the sudoers file via the "Neutered Admins: Creating a Limited Administrator Account within OS X" presentation by White & Pooser from this year's Macworld, but they didn't go into much detail on how to make this work in a network-user environment.
The second issue I have is if I can find a way to let my "allstaff" group modify printer-lists, how do I get this out to my 300+ desktop and laptop machines? If there was a way to next my "allstaff" user-group in the admin group +on my machines+, then I could conceivably get MCX to hand that info down to them, correct?
    Any ideas or comments?

    Hi
Just tried and with the photo showing in the main photoshop window hold the shift/apple(cmd)/4 keys and you will see a cross hair, click and drag that from the top left of the window to the bottom right and release.
You should now have a grab of the pic on you desktop.

  • How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac.  The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear.  I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

  • Paper Size issues with CreatePDF Desktop Printer

Are there any known paper size issues with PDFs created using Acrobat.com's CreatePDF Desktop Printer?
I've performed limited testing with a trial subscription, in preparation for a rollout to several clients.
Standard paper size in this country is A4, not Letter.  The desktop printer was created manually on a Windows XP system following the instructions in document cpsid_86984.  MS Word was then used to print a Word document to the virtual printer.  Paper Size in Word's Page Setup was correctly set to A4.  However the resultant PDF file was Letter size, causing the top of each page to be truncated.
I then looked at the Properties of the printer, and found that it was using an "HP Color LaserJet PS" driver (self-chosen by the printer install procedure).  Its Paper Size was also set to A4.  Word does override some printer driver settings, but in this case both the application and the printer were set to A4, so there should have been no issue.
On a hunch, I then changed the CreatePDF printer driver to a Xerox Phaser, as suggested in the above Adobe document for other versions of Windows.  (Couldn't find the recommended "Xerox Phaser 6120 PS", so chose the 1235 PS model instead.)  After confirming that it too was set for A4, I repeated the test using the same Word document.  This time the result was fine.
While I seem to have solved the issue on this occasion, I have not been able to do sufficient testing with a 5-PDF trial, and wish to avoid similar problems with the future live users, all of which use Word and A4 paper.  Any information or recommendations would be appreciated.  Also, is there any information available on the service's sensitivity to different printer drivers used with the CreatePDF's printer definition?  And can we assume that the alternative "Upload and Convert" procedure correctly selects output paper size from the settings of an uploaded document?
PS - The newly-revised doc cpsid_86984 still seems to need further revising.  Vista and Windows 7 instructions have now been split.  I tried the new Vista instructions on a Vista SP2 PC and found that step 6 appears to be out of place - there was no provision to enter Adobe ID and password at this stage.  It appears that, as with XP and Win7, one must configure the printer after it is installed (and not just if changing the ID or password, as stated in the document).

    Thank you, Rebecca.
The plot thickens a little, given that it was the same unaltered Word document that first created a letter-size PDF, but correctly created an A4-size PDF after the driver was changed from the HP Color Laser PS to a Xerox Phaser.  I thought that the answer may lie in your comment that "it'll get complicated if there is a particular driver selected in the process of manually installing the PDF desktop printer".  But that HP driver was not (consciously) selected - it became part of the printer definition when the manual install instructions were followed.
However I haven't yet had a chance to try a different XP system, and given that you haven't been able to reproduce the issue (thank you for trying), I will assume for the time being that it might have been a spurious problem that won't recur.  I'll take your point about using the installer, though when the opportunity arises I might try to satisfy my cursed curiosity by experimenting further with the manual install.  If I come up with anything of interest, I'll post again.

  • Error message in PDF desktop printer

Desktop printer seems to install from Adobe online, but nothing prints when it is used. The documented is listed in the printer qeue for the PDF printer, but with "error." There is no way to decipher what the error is, and how to fix it. I'm running from Windows XP. Any suggestions?

As of February 17, 2014, the desktop app for Adobe CreatePDF (now known as PDF Pack) will no longer be available for use. You can still use your PDF Pack subscription by accessing the service in one of the following ways:
From the Adobe PDF Pack web application. Create and combine PDF files online. Sign in with your Adobe ID here.
From the free Adobe Reader deskop application. Use the latest version of Reader to create and combine PDF files online with your PDF Pack subscription. Download Adobe Reader here.
From the free Adobe Reader mobile application. Create PDF files with your mobile device, fill out forms, sign documents, and make comments on PDF files from your iPad, iPhone, or Android device. Download Adobe Reader for mobile.
If you need assistance uninstalling the CreatePDF desktop application, please see the instructions we've posted. You can also learn more about how to access PDF Pack from within Adobe Reader on your desktop by checking out this tutorial.

  • CreatePDF desktop printer - 'error'

    Hi,
I installed the CreatePDF pack (I have Windows7) and then ran into problems as the install wouldn't work. I then installed the Xerox printer and ran the CreatePDF installation again and it worked. The problem is that I cannot print on this printer. When I try to create a pdf from Word using the CreatePDF printer I get an 'error' in the spool. I followed all the leads I could find to fix this problem:
    - I installed the Windows Patch
    - I removed and re-installed the CreatePDF desktop printer
    - I made sure my credentials were correct for the port
I removed and re-installed the Xerox and CreatePDF printer a number of times but nothing seems to help.
What else can I try to make this work?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes that the hotflix I applied. I did re-install the printer after the update but it didn’t fix the problem. I can see the printer and use it but it failed each time. I get a failure email with the following message which makes no sense since I am printing from Word (I tried other software too) :
Adobe PDF Pack could not successfully convert your file Microsoft Word - Document1 to Adobe PDF. Your uploaded file type is not a supported format.
    What else can I do?
    Many thanks

  • Adobe CreatePDF Desktop printer won't work

I downloaded and installed Adobe CreatePDF on my computer.  I also went to the properties and entered my username and password which it accepted.  Now, every time I try to print anything to PDF format it never saves / creates a file, it only goes to the queue and says <error> in the queue.  How do I resolve this issue?

  • Acrobat 9.0 for Window - Cannot create PDF Printer

I can't create a printer as non of the drivers in "C:\program Files\adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF" work. Re-installing does not work either. I tried installing older verions 7 & 8, both created Adobe PDF Printer... when installing version 9 it deletes the printer.
The message I get is: PDFMaker cannot locate the Adobe PDF Printer's printer driver. Please re-insall Adobe Acrobat 9.0
Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

Do as I do on some items. Install a utility called TypeIt4Me the go to the announcement. Copy the link. choose add clipping give it a name put / or \ at the end so it you type the same words normally it don't trigger the typeIt4Me entry.  then when you need to type the words (code used) and wait for TypeIt4Me enter it.  the item highlighted in my attachment is this:

  • Adobe Create PDF printer not working fully!

    Hi all!
I have a minor problem with Adobe Create PDF printer. I installed and I was able to print couple word docs, but stopped working.
I dont know why. I am still able to print web pages and others, but cant "print" pdf from word, ooutlook, Autocad, etc.
It is stopped working correctly after I tried to print from Autocad, also I have had problems with activating my Photoshop sub and Adobe support made same changes to my AAM and Photoshop, may be that is what caused my problem, I don't know, neither does support. Support has no other idea we went thru every detail but still can't use Create PDF correctly.
    Any ideas?
I have already installed this hotfix:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html
    But still no solution.
