CREATE DIMENSION SKIP WHEN NULL Syntax

I noticed in Oracle 11GR2 that the CREATE DIMENSION has been enhanced to include a SKIP WHEN NULL option. Do anyone know the behaviour of this option as the documentation is relatively light?
Thanks John

I thought it was quite well described in the documentation...

level_clause
The level_clause defines a level in the dimension. A level defines dimension hierarchies and attributes.
level Specify the name of the level.
level_table . level_column Specify the columns in the level. You can specify up to 32 columns. The tables you specify in this clause must already exist.
SKIP WHEN NULL  Specify this clause to indicate that if the specified level is NULL, then the level is to be skipped. This clause lets you preserve the hierarchical chain of parent-child relationship by an alternative path that skips over the specified level. See hierarchy_clause .
Restrictions on Dimension Level Columns Dimension level columns are subject to the following restrictions:
All of the columns in a level must come from the same table.
If columns in different levels come from different tables, then you must specify the dimension_join_clause.
The set of columns you specify must be unique to this level.
The columns you specify cannot be specified in any other dimension.
Each level_column must be non-null unless the level is specified with SKIP WHEN NULL. The non-null columns need not have NOT NULL constraints. The column for which you specify SKIP WHEN NULL cannot have a NOT NULL constraint).

  • Create iTunes Workflow to "Skip When Shuffling?"

I've been searching the forums, but haven't found a response yet. I'm a novice at Automator, as I've just switched from Panther to Tiger. Is it possible to create a workflow to mark a series of "songs" (in my case, the list of iTrip frequencies) to "Skip When Shuffling" so that they don't show up in the Party Shuffle or play when shuffling all songs? It's a lot of "songs" to go through manually. Thanks!

    ibosket,
I was able to accomplish the turning off of the iTrip frequencies by doing the following:
    Automater Actions
    1) Find Songs in iTunes Action(Find: Songs; Whose: Playlist is Library and Whose: Album is equal to iTrip
    2) Run AppleScript Action with the following AppleScript copied from the Script Editor and replacing the complete text in the Automator "Run AppleScript" action and not just where it says (* Your script goes here *).

  • How does order of columns change when I create dimension?

I created dimension from 3 tables, but order columns in each tables changed. And when I use drilldown in Dashboards and go to next level, all columns show in wrong order how in dimension. What should I do to change order columns in dimension?

OK, this is a "stab in the dark" about what you're experiencing, but take a look at this: First, note the order you wish the columns to appear when doing a drilldown. Now, when you drill down, note which columns appear first (leftmost) as compared to the other columns that seem to not appear in the proper order. When the disorder appears, are there data in the left columns and no data in the columns towards the right? Here's what it seems OBI does (at least in my experience).
If all the columns have data, the order in the drilldown will appear as expected. Let's say you have 15 columns. (There's a reason I chose this many columns.) What happens if columns 1 -5 (in your sort order) have no data, but column 6 does? OBI will put that column first at the far left. If then columns 7-9, say, have no data, but column 10 does, then column 10 will appear second. If columns 11- 15 have data, then the final order will be: 6, 10, 11- 15, 1-5, 7-9.
As long as there are some sort of data, the column will appear in the proper order. But if a column has no data, then a column that does takes precedence. Why this behavior?
Suppose that of the 15 columns, only column 15 had data. The number of columns would make the report very wide. Would the user wish to scroll all the way to the right just to see the one column of data? Instead, it will be column 1 with columns 2-14 following. The user would then be able to see the column with data without having to scroll. If they understood this behavior, they would know that if column 15 is appearing first, there is no need to scroll to the right.
Again, this is my experience and it seems to explain it. (I, too, pulled my hair in frustration trying to figure this out). See if this applies to you and let me know.
Note: The "strange" behavior appears at the lowest level drilldown. It seems to maintain the proper level at higher levels. (So in my experience, I drill from region>branch>details and it is in the detail level that I get the column disorder.)

  • Is it possible to create dimension roles in AWM?

    Hi,
Is it possible to create dimension roles in AWM like the way we have in OWB ?
If yes, please direct on the way to do this.
Many thanks in advance for your kind inputs.

I think what you need is to use the ALIAS option that is part of the DEFINE DIMENSION statement
    DEFINE DIMENSION ALIASOF
The DEFINE DIMENSION ALIASOF command defines a dimension alias for a simple dimension. An alias dimension has the same type and values as its base dimension. Typically, you define an alias dimension when you want to dimension a variable by the same dimension twice.
Additionally, You can use a LIMIT statement to limit alias dimensions and define variables and relations using an alias dimension. However, you cannot maintain an alias dimension directly; instead you maintain its base dimension using MAINTAIN.
    Syntax
DEFINE name DIMENSION ALIASOF dimension [TEMP] [AW workspace] [SESSION]
    Arguments
    name
The name of the object you are defining. For general information about this argument, see the main entry for the DEFINE command.
    DIMENSION ALIASOF
If you look at this example if provides a great example of how to use this feature:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/olap.102/b14346/dml_x_decimal006.htm#ABC1485326
But of course the main issue here is how to generate the standard form metadata required to support this feature and make the dimension alias avaliable and visible within AWM. That is the difficult (and I would say impossible) part of the process since this feature is not supported by the AW XML API (at least I don't think it is, you could check the API docs to see if this is supported). if it is not supported then the management of this feature would all have to be controlled via OLAP DML commands (load dimension members etc) but you would still not be able to include it within a cube definition and then maintain that cube using AW XML API.
    Does that help?

  • HT4889 I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. How do I now 'migrate' all the files from both accounts into one to save myself having two accounts, both of which are me? Help?

I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. I have read that I probably should not have skipped migration in the initial set up and the problem would have been avoided but, alas, here I am. Does anyone know how I can 'migrate' all the files from one of the accounts that has been created to the other, so then I can delete it and have a single user on the computer seeing as I am the only person using it? I have read starting again, if this is the way to go, where is the best place to start 'starting again'?

Yes definitely should see it but its not coming up (I don't think) when I log out of 2nd user and into the main account. Opening finder in the 2nd account, I can obviously find the public folder because thats where I dropped all the files, but when in the main account, it can't be found. The only public folder that comes up is the folder for that account (main account) and it does not display files I'm looking for. Frustrating....
EDIT: Have found it through a round-about way but all music and photo and movie etc files have a red stop sign disallowing them from being transferred. Can you guess what the next question will be?

  • "Skip When Shuffling" - iPhone?

    Hi there,
I've just discovered the "Skip When Shuffling" feature.
My question is - does this feature work on the iPhone?
If I check the "skip when shuffling" checkbox in iTunes, will this translate to the iPhone?
If not, do y'all have any suggestions as to how to manage this on iPhone?
I can create a playlist to exclude these items, but that seems like a clunky solution.
The thing is I have plenty of space, and I'd like to have the songs ON the phone just in case I have the occasion to want to listen to them. But I want to exclude them from shuffling.

    Yes, it will.

  • List of songs marked "skip when shuffling"?

I've marked a number of songs to "skip when shuffling," and I have no problem with that.
However, my computer's hard drive just crashed and I'm putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. I was able to keep the music (including some I'd deleted between the time of my last backup and the crash), but not the libraries and playlists.
And the things like "skip when shuffling."
So.. on my old computer, is there a way to get a list of things I'd marked that way? Then I'd get at least most of it.
I'd ask if there was a way to transfer the libraries, and I started to, but I'm going to go ahead and do some other cleanup, too, so what the heck.
    Thanks!

If you need it, I have a script that creates a playlist of any tracks excluded from the shuffle, FindSkipOnShuffle.vbs, which:
    creates a playlist "skip on shuffle" if it doesn't exist;
    deletes anything in that playlist if it already exists;
adds any tracks that are marked as skip on shuffle; and
displays a message that tells you when it's done (because it's slow, taking about a minute to scan through 10,000 tracks, it's nice to know when it's done).
If you want to run this, just right click on the above link, save it to your PC, and invoke it while iTunes is running.

  • BI Administration Tool - Create Dimension automatically

I installed Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One Release 10.1.3.2.1 and I'm following "Business Intelligence Standard Edition One Tutorial" ( [Tutorial - section 4.3.5|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10352_01/doc/bi.1013/e10312/repository.htm#CBAHDGAA] )
I would set up a dimension automatically from a logical dimension table by means of "BI Administration Tool 10.1.3.2.1". So I follow the steps of this tutorial and even the Administration Guide ([section "Creating Dimensions Automatically" pg 134|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31770.pdf]) :
    Particularly:
1)In the Administration Tool, I opened a repository.
2)In the Business Model and Mapping layer of a repository, right-click a logical table.
3)From the right-click menu, I should find and choose Create Dimension.
but on the right-click menu I can't see Create Dimension.
Could you please suggest me the reason?
Any ideas will be much appreciated.

    Marco,
You will not see the option for "Create Dimension" when right-clicking a logical table in the BMM Layer if that logical table is:
    1. Already being used as a dimension (icon with 3 prongs)
    2. Not joined correctly with the Business Model (i.e. Either not joined at all or it is joined as a Fact table and is not acting like a dimension table to the Admin Tool)
My hunch believes that you have already associated the logical table with a dimension/hierarchy. To run a litmus test, just delete all of the dimensions you have created for the Business Model, then right-click the logical table in question. If you see the "Create Dimension" option then you know what the issue is.
Let me know if that helps.

    3) defined page validation for 9 items under 'create ' button and have set it to fire when 'create ' button clicked
    4) defined page validation for 1 item under 'delete ' button and have set it to fire when 'delete ' button clicked
now , when I click 'create' button it even shows for the item under 'Delete ' button that it is a required itemSorry, I didn't see this note. The required template won't work, there is no way to attach it to the button.
The best solution is as the reply a couple replies up
Create 2 page type validations as a PL/SQL with code
    1st validation
:P1_ITEM1 IS NOT NULL and :P1_ITEM2 IS NOT NULL ...... and :P1_ITEM9 IS NOT NULL  include all 9 items
Set the When Button Pressed to the CREATE button
    2nd validation
    :P1_ITEM10 IS NOT NULL
Set the When Button Pressed to the DELETE buttonI think that's going to be the easiest way to do it.

Getting an error message on some files(error file skipped)@ when combining files, the properties of the files with errors are the same as the files which are okay. Anyone got a fix for this?

No the the files aren’t protected. But I solved the problem by copying the files to another folder.
Seems like another process was still using the files(strange but that’s data for you)

  • How to create Dimension table

    Hi,
On practicing I have followed the step. 1st i have created InfoArea, 2nd Infosource, 3rd Application component, 4th Infoobject, and 5th Infocube. I was not able to create dimension table. Could any one help me how to create dimension table.
    Regards.

    Hi Soumendra,
I think you are stuck in creating the InfoCube (IC), when you create the IC you need to have 3mandatory dimensions like time, unit and data packet as well as Customer defined like say Customer, Product etc.
You need to insert them in IC and activate them.
Check the below help file for more info.

  • Cannot find object after creating dimension and cube.

I need to develop a project using olap api to get olap data.
My db release is 10.1.0.2, owb is 10.1.0.4.
After i create dimension and cube in owb, I cannot find any object i have created in owb. Except that in OEM, after i click the button dimension, there comes an message as that the dimension does not have complete metadata or was created by old release and OEM will create a metadata for it. After that, I can find the dimension in AWM and get the imformation using olap api.
However, there is no measure button in OEM, I cannot find the measures in measure folder. So that i cannot get the information of the MdmMeasureDimension using olap api.
Can somebody help me with this issue? Thanks!

With OWB 10.1 and prior releases to get OLAP metadata for a dimension or cube you must have used the OWB transfer wizard to deploy the OLAP metadata. This bridge basically creates and executes a script with all of the CWM calls to create the OLAP dimension and cube metadata.
When you deployed the dimension from OWB in 10.1 it only created the 'create dimension DDL' for the object.
    Cheers

  • Podcasts skipped when shuffling

Did a recent update to Itunes change whether podcasts are automatically skipped during Shuffle?
I always came across them before (and actually liked that.) Now, I see that all of my podcasts are automatically set to "skip during shuffle" which is a setting I DO not want.
Aside from manually changing that setting on each podcast, is there a way to have all podcasts included during Shuffle?
I have tried selecting all podcasts, hitting "get info," and selecting "skip when shuffle: NO" as a multiple command. But this apparently does not override the individual setting (in the "options" tab of each podcast) which is set at "skip during shuffle" even after I've executed the group change.
STrangely enough, what I really want to do is have only the podcasts be available for shuffling, without music. Is that possible somehow?

Thank you so much for posting this issue. I ran into it myself just recently, as I also wanted my podcasts to be included in the shuffle along with some Spoken Word audio tracks. I did not realize podcasts are skipping shuffling by default.
I did the following to get my playlist to shuffle:
    - created a Playlist and sent my Spoken Word tracks into it from my the Music section.
    - highlight Podcasts section in the Library -> Edit -> Select all, right-click -> Get Info -> Multiple? Yes -> Skip When Shuffling=No (so that the box is checked) -> OK.
    - Edit -> Select All -> right-click -> Add To Playlist -> select the playlist created in the first step, above.
That playlist now shuffles the podcasts with the other audio tracks, so it's working for me as long as I go through the above manual process.
    Hope this helps.
