Create multiple instances of same class but with unique names

Hi,
I'm creating an IM application in Java.
So far I can click on a user and create a chat session, using my chatWindow class. But this means I can only create one chatWindow class, called 'chat'. How can I get the application to dynamically make new instances of this class with unique names, for examples chatWindowUser1, chatWindowUser2.
Below is some code utlising the Openfire Smack API but hopefully the principle is the clear.
    private void chatButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
        int selectedUserIndex = rosterList.getSelectedIndex();
        String selectedUser = rostAry[selectedUserIndex].getUser();
        System.out.println("Chat with: " + selectedUser);
        if (chatBox == null) {
            JFrame mainFrame = CommsTestApp.getApplication().getMainFrame();
            chatBox = new CommsTestChatBox(mainFrame,conn,selectedUser);
            chatBox.setLocationRelativeTo(mainFrame);
        CommsTestApp.getApplication().show(chatBox);
}

yes, an array would work fine, just realize that by using an array, you're setting an upper bound on the number of windows you can have open.
As for unique names, if you mean unique variable name, you don't need one. The array index serves to uniquely identify each instance. If you mean unique title for the window, set that however you want (username, index in array, randomly generated string, etc.). It's just a property of the window object.

  • Creating multiple instances of a class in LabVIEW object-oriented programming

    How do you create multiple instances of a class in a loop?  Or am I thinking about this all wrong?
    For instance, I read in a file containing this information:
    Person Name #1
    Person Age #1
    Hobby #1
    Hobby #2
    Hobby #3
    Person Name #2
    Person Age #2
    Hobby #1
    Hobby #2
    Hobby #3
    Person Name #3
    Person Age #3
    Hobby #1
    Hobby #2
    Hobby #3
    If I define a Person class with name, age, and an array of strings (for the hobbies), how can I create several new Person instances in a loop while reading through the text file?
    FYI, new to LabVIEW OOP but familiar with Java OOP.  Thank you!

    First of all, let's get your terminology correct.  You are not creating multiple instances of a class.  You are creating Objects of the class.
    Use autoindexing to create an array of your class type.

  • To create 3 diff files with same content but with diff names in same target

    Hi SapAll.
    i have got a a requirement where pi need to create 3 different files with same content but with different names under same target from a single Idoc.
    its an IDOC to 3 File Inteface.
    can any body help me in providing the differnt solutions for this without use of any script executions.
    will be waiitng for response.
    regards.

    > i want to use only one communication channel to produce 3 different file names with same content ,so here i should use only one message mapping in 3 operation mappings .
    This is not possible to produce 3 different file names with single CC. You have to use 3 different CCs. unless you have going to use some other trick e.g some script to rename the file etc..
    As I suggested in my previous reply use Multi-Mapping Or create 3 different Interface Mappings (by using the same MM).
    Note: You have to create 3 different Inbound Message Interfaces (you can use the same Inbound Message Type) otherwise while creating the 3 Interface Determination it won't allow because of same Outbound & Inbound Message Interface. It will simply say Interface alreday exists..
    So, just use the Multi-Mapping which is best solution in my opinion, because the benefit of using multi-mapping are:
    1. You have to create only single Message Mapping
    2. Single Interface Mapping
    3. Single Receiver Determination
    4. Single Interface Determination
    5. 3 Receiver CCs (3 you have to use in any case)
    6. Performance wise it is good (read the blog's last 2 para)
    7. And last but not the least easy to maintain the scenario.

  • To create multiple files with same content but with different names

    Hi SapAll.
    here i have got a tricky situation on Idoc to File Scenario.
    in my interface of an Idoc to file ,there  is requirement to create multiple files with different file names but with same content based on one Idoc Segment.
    which means there will be one Zsegment with two fields in the idoc,where one field with (content refers to the name which file name should start with .so lets say if this segment is repeated for 3 times then PI should create 3 files in the same directory with same content but with different file names (from the filed).
    so here for now iam using one reciever file communication channel.
    can any body give me the quick answer.
    regards.
    Varma

    What do you mean by different names?
    when i make proper setting in the Receiver Channel....on how to create the filename (what to append) like add Timestamp, counter, date, messageid.....even in this case you will ahve file with different names and that too from same File channel.
    You can perform multi-mapping in XI/ PI and then your File channel will place the files in the target folder with relevant names. You cannot use Dynamic Configuration with Multi-Mapping!
    If you intend to use different File channels, then do the configuration as required (normal)...even over here you can follow multi-mapping.
    Do not use a BPM!

    Abhishek.

  • How to create multiple instances within same AS

    Ramesh,
    I have a unique problem. I might have to create B2B instances for 4 owners. As in BPEL, I can have separate domains for the 4 clients in the same instance; what is the equivalent in B2B?
    I have a limited number of CPUs and need to install the instances on the same box and hence trying to be creative yet secure here.
    Could you please provide some pointers.
    Thanks
    Shamik

    Hello Shamik,
    Please elaborate your use case. Is this just caters to user management or to really have different domain like bpel for four different users. Please see, b2b do not have the notion of BPEL domain, you might have to install multiple instances of B2B pointing to the same MR.

  • Preventing multiple instances of same application - started with "java app"

    I need to ensure that only one instance of an application runs at any given time.
    As far as I know launching it twice with "java appName" will run each in its own memory space, so it is not immediately obvious how to achieve it. I considered using a database entry or environment variable, but those would need to be cleared on exit and therefore be at risk of not being cleared if the application crashes or hangs.
    Is there a Java API call that would allow me to do a check for other instances of the same application... safely?

    Create a ServerSocket on a fixed port number that isn't used by any other application. If you get a BindException, your application is alread running.

  • Multiple users using same files, but with different libraries

    My wife and I both have our own iPhone 3Gs. We also have separate user accounts on our MacBook Pro. We would like to share the music/video files that we've got stored on a network drive, but we don't want to have the same library file. We both have different tastes in music, so I'd prefer if our song ratings were separate, as well as the rest of the library info (namely "last played date"). Is there a way that we can keep separate library files, but also be able to have new song purchases on one library automatically added to the other?

    The sender param should be a pointer to the originating button, and you can use the button's tag property to id it. E.g.:
    -(IBAction) setSize:(id)sender {
    UIButton *button = sender;
    NSString *title = button.currentTitle;
    int tag = button.tag;
    NSLog(@"sender=%@, title=%@, tag=%d", sender, title, tag);

  • Multiple instance of a class

    I have written a class, called Board. In my program, I need to create multiple instances of this class. e.g. Board1, Board2, Board3 etc.
    Board Board2 = new Board();
    Board2 = Board1;
    However, when I change some parameters in Board1, the parameters in Board2 also get changed. Is there a way to prevent this?
    I tried using the Object.clone() method, but I can't seem to invoke it due to its protected nature. If this is indeed the solution, does anybody know how to invoke it? Thanks!
    Perd

    I am interested in your alternative solution of
    implementing clone() as a public method. However, I
    don't really understand what do you mean by that.
    I tried something like this:
    class Board extends Cloneable
    but it still doesn't work.
    Can you please explain in greater detail what do you
    mean? thanks!Read this: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/objectclass.html

  • Can we have Multiple Instance on same Node in Oracle 10g RAC

    Hi All,
    I am planning to implement the RAC in Oracle 10g.Before that i have one doubt regarding RAC.
    My question is "Can we create multiple Instance on Same node(Server) ?"
    is it possible.
    Any ideas or thoughts would be apperciable.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Anwar

    This is where it is important to keep the separation between 'database' and 'instance'.
    A database is the set of files that contains the data (and the redo, control files, etc). A database does nothing by itself, other than take up lots of disk space.
    An instance is theCPU cycles (running software) and the memory to control the database.
    In Oracle RAC, you can have as many instances controlling one database [at the same time] as you want (within reason). Each instance must be able to access the disk(s) that contains the database.
    These multiple instances can be on the same computer (effectively taking up a lot of server memory and CPU for nothing) or they can be on separate computers.
    If they are on separate computers, the disk subsystems must be able to be shared across computers - this is occasionally done using operating system clusterware and is the main reason why clusterware is required at all. (This is also the toughest part of the pre-requisites in setting up a RAC and is very vendor dependent unless you use ASM.)
    These instances need a communication connection to coordinate their work (usually a separate network card for each computer) so they do not corrupt the disk when they are trying to access the same file, and possibly the same block, at the same time.
    In a RAC configuration, instances can be added, started, running, stopped and removed independent of each other (allowing a lot of high availability) or can be started and stopped as a group.
    Each instance gets it's own SID, which is in no way any different than a non-RAC SID. It's just the name of a service that can be invoked. The neat thing is that the SID
    a) helps the DBA keep things straight by lettiung us talk about 'instance A' (the Oracle software to be running over on computer A) vs 'instance B' when starting, stopping and managing;
    b) helps the application by providing targets that can be listed in the TNSNAMES.ORA [against one service alias], which is used by ORacle Networking to provide automated load balance or failover (instance/SID a is not available, I guess I'll try the next in the list)
    Hope that helps the concept level a bit.

    Then you haven't followed the method correctly. That error is
    addressed specifcally on that site, as that error is the main
    reason for the site. Did you read the note about the "known
    bug" because of the one port that is not included in the
    sample file?
    If you had tried the first method (set up a second IP and
    started both servers with the command line option providing
    an IP) there is no way this error could happen.
    If you followed the second method, and specified a different
    port for every port listed (including the one that is not in the
    sample file per default) then there is, once again, no way that
    this error could happen.
    The error happens on the second server because it is trying
    to bind the same port, using the same address, as the first
    server, which is impossible if you fully implement one of the
    two methods described there.

  • How can I force TestStand to create multiple instance of an activex server instead of share the same reference?

    Hi, All:
         I am trying to migrate a application coded by VC++ to TestStand+CVI. This application opens multiple serial com ports and send commands to test targets, and get responses from these targets. The VC++ application creates multiple thread, and every thread create an activeX server instance which is responsible for opening serial port,sending test commands ,and getting response. It works fine as every thread has itsown activeX instance, so data and commands can be handled in the right serial port successfully.
         Yet when I works on TestStand, I got problems. I choose parallel model as the process model. I create a activeX object reference with AxtiveX/COM Adapter, and store the reference in a sequence local varialbe. If there is only 1 testsocket, It is OK. But if there are multiple test sockets, and communication between the application and test targets will be directly to the last test target. I try to popup a message within a execution to indicate the value of the activeX object reference, and all of them are identical. But this is not the behavior I want.
        So, is it possible to force TestStand to create independent instances of an activeX server? How can I make it work?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your comment, Dan.
          Yet I do get problems as none of us know how to program an activeX server so that it can be forced to be a single-instance or multiple-instance.
    As I mentioned earlier, there is existing application which is written by VC++ can create multiple instances of this activeX server, all I have to do is to create multiple threads, and initiate an instance of this server to contrl multiple test targets.
         My colleague said he creates the server with VC++ ATL, and cofigure it to be dual-interface and STA. And in the VC++ application side(client side), I use smart-pointer in threads to create an instance of the server:
     IMySerialServer pIMySerialServer;
      HRESULT hr = pIMySerialServer.CreateInstance("UUTCmd.MySerialServer");
      if(FAILED(hr))
       AfxMessageBox("Fail to create instance.");
    And then I got multple instances of the activeX server. Every thread can have itsown com port, can send/receive commands indepently. I have no idea how can I make it work on TestStand. Would you show me some reference documents or sample codes?
    Thank you
    Cipher

    It is the name of the website for JBoss. That seems rather obvious to me, and you would have found out for yourself if you had tried it.
    Your question is not a Java question and doesn't belong in these forums. It is a JBoss question and you should ask there, or more probably have a look at the JBoss documentation first.

  • Creating an instance of a class with no default constructor

    Hello gurus,
    I wrote my own serialization and RMI protocol for both C++ and Java that follows closely what the default Java version does. I'm trying to recreate an object on the Java side that was sent over the wire. The first step is to create an instance of the class. How do I create an instance of a class that has no constructor (i.e. the only instances are static, created by the class itself and returned by static methods) or one that has no default constructor (like Integer)? The Java serialization seems to support it but the reflection API doesn't seem to have any support for this (i.e. Class::newInstance() and Constructor::newInstance()). It seems that through the standard API you can only create an object via one of its constructors. There must be a "hidden" method somewhere that allows the Java serialization to create an object without calling a constructor - where is it?
    Dominique

    There must be a "hidden" method
    somewhere that allows the Java serialization to create
    an object without calling a constructor - where is
    it?You are correct, the way in which the Serialization creates Objects is "hidden" deep within the runtime.
    If it were not hidden, you would be able to find it, and use it to violate the integrity of the VM.

But, to my surprise, when I press the play button, every player played the same video file,not its specified file.
    I have no idea why it did so and what can I do?
    Whether can I create multiple instances of realplayer plug-in in one jsp page, that is to say, each instance is independent of others?
    thanks in advance!

    Generally speaking, Internet Explorer tries not to launch multiple versions of a plug-in. So what's happening is that you load the first video clip, and then before it has a chance to play, you load the second video clip into the same window. (It's like changing songs in WMA.)
    In some cases - this may not work for Real Player, but it's worth trying - if you spawn a new window through a hypertext link and then launch the plug-in in that window, IE will treat it separately. Otherwise, you could not, for example, run two Macromedia Flash applications from different web sites at the same time.
    Keep in mind that only one program can access the soundcard at a time, so Real Player may purposely "pause" or "cancel" other video streams until the active one finishes. If you were using the desktop version, selecting another video by any means aborts the currently running video (i.e., RP won't let you create a separate instance of it).
    The easiest solution is to create a wrapper JSP file that takes the name of the video clip, and plays it. Call that JSP and specify that it should be opened in a new window via the TARGET keyword in the anchor tag. Then hopefully RP itself won't block a second window from running.
