Create non-printing text?

Can text in Pages be marked as non-printing? If not, is there a work around? Thank you.

Hello
As far as I know this feature is unavailable.
A workaround would be to use "white ink" for these pieces of text.
An other one would be to put these "non-printing" text in comments.
"Hide Comments" before printing.

  • Non-Printing Text / ePub

I have a page with the chapter number on it—nothing else.
    1) Other than deleting the chapter number text, or moving if off onto the pasteboard, is there a way to have it non-print when exporting to ePub.
I tried checking off non-print in the attributes panel, but no effect there.
    2) Also, even if could hide the text, would the frame that it's in take up space in the ePub?
    Thanks.

    Excellent solution!

  • Non-printing text frame for use in exported pdf

    Hi everyone,
I have a couple of words in a text frame and I've set the text frame to be be non-printing in the attributes panel. I was hoping that by doing this, that when I exported to pd, it would show in the pdf file but not print, but as it happens it doesn't show at all in the pdf.
Is there a way to mark a text frame as non-printing in Indesign but still have it show in the pdf and not print in the pdf?
Would be grateful for any advice.

It might work to put it on it's own layer, mark the layer as non-printing, so it won't print from ID, but export a layered PDF (you might have to include non-printing layers to get it inthe PDF, but I don't think so). In Acrobat pro you can then change the layer properties to visible, but non-printing. It's a real pain to do this.

  • Non-printing Text?

I have a form I need to create that includes information I do not want to have printed on paper. In MS Word I can just set the the selected text to "hidden" and it can be seen on the computer screen but wont print.
Is there a way to do this in Pages?

    Hello Christopher,
you can use the comment feature if you are working with Pages 2. For printing just hide the comment margin.
In Pages 1 there is no such feature. One work-around is: create a style for this text and if you want to hide the text, change the text color of the style to the background color. Of course this implements you can place this text only above the same background color, or you have to create different styles for the different background colors.
An other work-around is: create a style for the text and set the opacity to 0% for printing. This works for main text (in the color palette), textboxes and shapes (in the graphic inspector).

  • I just updated my OS to Mavericks, as well as my Pages app. Now my previously created documents print out as blank paper, even tho I can see the text on my desktop. The margins have also been altered. How do I fix this?

I just updated to Mavericks, then updated my Pages App. Now none of my previously created documents print out, except as blank pages, even though I can see the text on the documents, but with altered margins, on my computer screen. How do I fix this so the documents print out normally again?

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Non-English Text Printing

    Hi friends,
I am using a variable to display a text in english as a simple list, it is coming fine. Also, when the same variable is used to display any non-english text like korean or japanees, it is coming fine in the output list. But, when I do the print preview using 'LP01' or other test printer, the korean or japanees text is printed to the left (the text is shifted to the left) as result the whole column is shifted to the left.
Can anyone tell what could be the problem & it's possible solution.

  • Marking text as non-printing

I read that in ID CS4 it's possible to mark text as non-printing (while still including it in a TOC). However, I can't find where this command is ...
    Can anyone help?

What I'm trying to do is this.
My (inherited) ID CS4 document has 5 chapters. On each chapter title page, there are two separate header styles (with very different formatting). One says, for instance, 'Chapter 1' and the other provides a description, such as: 'Managing Applications'
I want the TOC to show: 'Chapter 1: Managing Applications'.
If I tell the TOC to pull in both styles, I get (on two lines):
    Chapter 1
         Managing Applicaitons               7
My thought, based on Sandee Cohen's text, was to insert a second 'Chapter 1' in front of the 'Managing Applications' and mark the former as hidden. But ID can't do this...
Is it possible to put the second 'Chapter 1' on a second hidden layer, inside the same frame?
Even if you can do this, it probably isn't worth the effort in this instance. But I'd just like to know for future reference.

  • Text not printing or PDFing. Non-printing is not applied. Help?

I have a logo. The top is on a path applied to an oval. Same with the bottom. In the middle is an ampersand (&). When I try to print, only the ampersand prints. I've tried printing to 2 different machines. I also tried saving it as a PDF but I lose everything except the ampersand in the middle. Everything is colored black, so there are no weird colors going on. Non-printing is not applied to anything. Any thoughts? I can send the file to somebody if they want to check it out.
    ID CS 3
    Thanks,
    Chris

Sorry for the delay. Spent some time looking for the font becasue I'm on Windows.
I opened it first in CS5, and after font substitution it exported fine, so I figured maybe it was a font problem on your end, but just to be safe I opened it in CS3 to check. Same problem here that you have on your end.
Good news, though. I exported to .inx and opened that. That page opened at 11 inches high, which may be part of the problem, but after resizing, it exported correctly. This is a pretty good inidcator of some minor corruption that is fixable by the export. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Please help with newline non-printing character in JTextPane.

So when this feature is toggled, the newline character is displayed at the end of every line like in Microsot Word editor.

  • Non printing items still printing

    Hi.
I have created in Indesign a 8 page pdf with hyperlinks (as a nav bar on each page)
I have set the colourful headers and footers on each page as non printing.
I am trying to create a PDF that will be colourful on screen, but when the browser goes to print it out the headers and footers will not output.
trouble is, they are still printing
I have tried exporting as smallest file/ high quality print and non printing options are ticked (otherwise the headers dont appear at all on screen)
can this be done? if so, how?
I have attached a sample file it has two objects in it:
    1) some text
    2) a magenta rectangle place over the text
I am trying to acheive a pint rectangle on screen, and when the pdf is printed, no rectangle just text.

You can't add a hyperlink to a button - but you can Convert something to a button and then give it a URL to go to when clicked.
Basically you don't select the button and choose a hyperlink destionation the way you would with text, that won't work.
    Here's what to do.
Select the frame that will be the button.
    Go to Window>Interactive>States
In the fly menu for the States panel (top right of panel) click the arrow pointing down, and a sub menu pops out.
Go to Button Options and to the tab that says "Behaviors"
    Event: Mouse Down
    Behavior: Go to URL
    URL: (insert the url)
And then DON'T FORGET TO CLICK ADD at the bottom of the dialog box.
And that's it. When you make the pdf make sure you inlcude interactive and bookmarks and everything else you need.

  • "Non-printing" items in AW Draw

I'm converting some PageMaker files into AW Drawing documents but have one sticking point. In PM, I could designate an item (text or image) as non-printing so it would be displayed on monitor but would not print. Is there a way to do this in AW? For example, I print name, team & date on award certificates. I want to put paper loading instructions (face down, head toward monitor) on the screen with the name & etc but, obviously don't want that on the finished certificate. Any suggestions?

I'm afraid there is no way of doing this that I can see. The only suggestion I can offer is that you put the instructions as a single draw object in front of the document, and make sure to delete it before printing. (Create a filled rectangle in a light colour with a line round the edge: put a text frame over it and type instructions in it, including 'delete this before printing', then group the two. You could lock the rest of the document so it can't be deleted by accident.)

  • I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.

I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
Does anyone know how to correct this?
I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).

I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

  • How to Print Text in WAD 7.0

    hi
i have created a web template using WEB APPLICATION DESIGNER
now i have added few custom texts in it like
    Report name,Cost centers ,Plant Names
now if i use Export to command to create print , it is not printing this custom texts
it is only printing Query Result.
If i use File -> Print
this print texts but cannot print WHOLE QUERY DATA
it only prints what is visible (e.g. if the report is wide with 20 Columns, it cannot print 20 columns.)
    how to resolve this ??

    Hi kartikey,
just select a text item and enter the text at the last parameter TEXT_CONTENT, that´s it. You may change the style and so on. It is also possible to bind the data provider and display the query title or other generic text.

           WINDOW    = 6
           OTHERS    = 7.
      endloop.
    enddo.
    Please guide.

Since the information is variable and coming out of the print program, I can assume you want to print many labels but two to a page. Also, any page numbering, etc will need to be updated. This is easily accomplished with SAPScript but a feature people rarely use I believe. Here are the simple steps:
    1) On the Windows Screen: Creat a main window for the size of the label, etc knowing that you will be putting multiple windows on a page. For example, if page size is 8.5 x 11, maybe your window size is 6 X 4 or something similar. You only need one main window defined.
    2) Now go to Page Windows Screen. Add a window MAIN and down at the bottom where it says Window Type put in MAIN. Next to this field is a little field about two characters long. In here put in '01'.
    3) Now Add another window MAIN and down at the bottom put in '02'.
Hopefully this gives you the idea. I've done this with up to 30 small windows in order to print variable window for labels on label stock such as Avery 8167, etc.
    Good Luck!
