Create numbered list paragraph style

Hi;
I have Pages version 5.2 installed on my MacPro 10.9.4.
I am trying to create a numbered list paragraph style w/o success; since the numbered list attribute isn't being remembered as part of the paragraph style.
Next time i mark something as belong to the paragraph style i created, it shows w/o a number (numbered list isn't set).
What am i doing wrong?

Using Pages 5.2.
Just one of the over 110 missing features:

Use Pages '09 if you have it.

    when you are writing a Base fix
    you can also write in this way
    FIX("plan1","Final","NormC_NA","Local",[RTP_Year], etc)

  • Automatic numbering (non-paragraph style)

    Some years ago I purchased InSequence from Virginia Systems to add automatic numbering not related to a paragraph style but anywhere in text. Although the interface is clumsy and was never updated, it was useful as the only workaround out  there. But they refused to provide free updates to a program already overpriced. Each time a new InDesign would come out, they made you fork out another $120 or so for an update. Now with InDesign 4, I have grown impatient with their greedy attitude to their longtime users. I cannot update to CS4 without the numbering (since I use it in many critical documents) but am at a loss what to do.
       So my question is this: Does anyone know of any other plug-in that will do this? I am a little surprised that Adobe never added this feature, but it is one I need. I'd appreciate any advice on this.

    I understand your reply, but if you had used the program and realized that there WAS NO development over the years, just minor tweaks (all of them completely invisible to the user) to make it compatible with every new version of InDesign, you would see the reason for the frustration. It is only reasonable to pay for what people have worked to improve. No argument there.
       In any case, the simplest way to describe what is needed is this: Imagine that you want to make an article that has, say 50 items in it, and the number of the items does not (and cannot) be associated with a paragraph tag. Kind of like footnote numbers, which can be inserted anywhere but which can be updated to keep in sequence as new numbers are added or moved. That is what is needed, and that is just what InSequence does.
         I hope this makes sense now.

  • [JS IDCS5] Create tags from paragraph styles

    Hello,
    I would like to iterating through al the paragraph styles within a document to create there tags from. The tags should have the same name as the paragraph styles. Is that possible and how?
    Regards, Sjoerd

    Hi Phil,
    Absolute beginer here. The script creates tags for the styles outside groups, but for some reason it doesn't create the tags out of the Paragraph Styles in folders.
    I enabled the line below and tried to change the "myPStyle"  for "myAllPStyle" in the following lines, but still nothing. Gives error when reaches the line myDoc.changeText();
    Any hint?
    var myAllPStyle = myDoc.allParagraphStyles; //if you want this enable a line all the folder paragraph styles also consider
    for (i=2; i<myAllPStyle.length; i++){
         var myAllPStyleName = myAllPStyle[i];
         //alert(myPStyleName.name);
         try{
              var myXml = myDoc.xmlTags.add(String(myAllPStyleName.name));
              }catch(e){}
         app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
         app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = myAllPStyleName;
         app.changeTextPreferences.markupTag=myAllPStyle[i].name;
         myDoc.changeText();
         app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    Also, how can I make it Map the tags with the PStyles by name after with the script?
    Thanks so much

  • Creating a new paragraph style based on text in a document

    I'm working on some scripts for a new ad our company is working on. They are wanting to have the ability to change the font weekly in the ads. However, they want the style sheets to change based on this. What I am having to do is write a script that gets the properties of the different paragraphs in the selected text frame, and make paragraph styles. Is there a way to get the properties of paragraph 1, and use that information to make a new paragraph style? Here is what I have so far;
    set charaStyle to get properties of character charaSelect of paragraph paraOne of myBox
    set makeStyle to make character style with properties {name:"MF Price" & charaSelect, based on:properties of character charaSelect}
    We are using InDesign CS 3. Thank you in advance for the help.

    this way - build ParaStyle definition from selected text - works only in UI
    in scripting you need to write your own procedure - read all params and set them one-by-one in ParaStyle definition

  • How do I create a new paragraph Style in Pages for iPad?

    I opened an RTF document in iOS 6 Pages for iPad. How do I create new paragraph Syles?

    Style is a function of the template applied to the document (and/or the limited number built in to Pages). You can mofify the text or apply one of the built in styles, but I do not beleive within Pages in iOS you can create a new style.

  • Automatically create Object, Character & Paragraphs style when you copy & paste the same item.

    InDesign could create styles automatically. If I am copying and paste an object or paragraph - that means I will be using it in multiple pages and consequently be making changes to it. I know I can always create a syle for all my elements, but having that feature build-in would be great. Especially for the designers like me who works on small documents. Great Forum!
    Thanks!

    InDesign make it really easy for you to create styles. I just believe that having it as an automatic feature (of course, an optional feature) would save time when working in small - mini publications, where there is really no need to create syles . Just my thought.

  • How to create inconsistent numbered list style?

    Can I create paragagraph style with inconsistent numbered list in InDesign CS4? I created a style with numbered list but when I apply it to the second list on another page of my document list numbering continues from last number of previous list (in consecutive order). What's up? I want to get the same effect as in Microsoft Word.

    Yesterday I created new discussion on topic of numbered list style.
    Then I found out about Restart numbering not working for numbered lists created w/ paragraph style one and began to experiment.
    I would like numbered lists to begin with #1 by means of style as on this page.
    I did it using Numbered List on the Control Panel. It does what I want.

    I’ve created numbered list style (body text) that has no number at LEVEL 1 and use that to restart the numbering (see 2 JPG)
    Secondly, I’ve also created the Numbered List style as Dominic Hurley advises:
    This is result (see 3 JPG):
    And this is the final result of my work (see 4 JPG):
    1, 2 -7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 -18
    It is still all Greek to me.
    Please help me to understand this. What am I doing wrong????

  • Styles - List Paragraph

    I am using Word 2010 with Windows 7.  I understand that the numbering styles on the Paragraph section of the Home ribbon comes from the built-in styles called "List Paragraph".  Is that correct?
    I want to permanently change the left margin and indent settings.  I have opened my normal.dotm template and modify the style ie List Paragraph, and saved the template.  However the next new document using the normal.dotm has the old (I assume
    default) settings.
    Question:  Is it possible to permanently change the settings in the List Paragraph style.
    regards
    Kadsa

    When you apply numbering or bullet formatting to text via the Number or Bullet button on the Home tab, the List Paragraph style provides some of the paragraph settings, such as Line Spacing and Spacing Before/After paragraphs; that is correct. However, you
    can't modify List Paragraph if you want to change the numbering defaults.
    What you have to do is either modify a built-in numbered style, such as List Number, or create your own style. Apply the style whenever you want to reuse the number format.
    Once you have created or edited a style, use the "New documents based on this template" radio button to transfer the settings to the attached template.

  • How to create the Paragraph styles in Smart Forms

    Dear Techie's,
    Please let me know, How to create the own Paragraph styles in Smart Forms i.e to make the line or a particular font in BOLD.
    Please put the light ASAP.
    Regards,
    Maddu.

    hi
    good
    You can create additional fonts and style with transaction SMARTSTYLES
    This can then be define in the paragraph and character formats, which you can then be assign to texts and fields in the Smart Form.
    The character formats includes effects such as superscript, subscript, barcode and font attributes.

  • How do I restart a numbered list?

    Hello all,
    First of all, I have to say, I can't believe how long it is taking me to set up my project. It seems like the most basic functionality in FM does not translate easily to RH. The lack of documentation around TCS3 Frame to Robohelp linking is simply unbelievable. Am I the only one who is frustrated and missing deadlines because of this?
    Anyway, I have encountered another problem with numbered lists.
    My list consists of two Framemaker paragraph tags. One that sets the counter back to 1 (used for the first item in a list), and then another tag for list items 2 and onwards.
    Here is the problem:
    I am using the Multilevel lists feature to set up my lists, which, for the most part works fine.
    The only problem I am encountering is this:
    when I have two lists within the same topic, I cannot get the second list to restart at 1!  Has anyone been able to figure this out with the multilevel lists?
    I know I can manually reset the counter from within Robohelp, but that defeats the purpose of linking my FrameMaker document. I cannot go and find all my lists in Robohelp and restart the numbering there. There has to be an automated way to do this.
    Any ideas?
    thanks.
    Sue

    Jeff:
    I wonder if you had any luck creating a style that starts at one and mapping to it? I tried to do something similar, but ultimately came up against all the same problems I've been experiencing from the beginning linking FM>RH with numbered lists.
    If you map to a single Paragraph and associated Multilevel List Style, you get this:
    Heading 1
    1.
    2.
    3.
    Heading 2
    4.
    5.
    6.
    I thought I would be clever and try to duplicate the method for restarting numbered lists in FM (two styles, the initial number with style and <n=1> and subsequent number mapped to one style using <n+>.
    I created two RH Paragraph Styles to map over. For each Paragraph Style, I used Autonumber, Create/Edit Custom Sequence to try to mimic this numbering sequence. The first style starts and one, and that works fine. But you run into the same problem when you create the second Autonumber list that starts at 2:
    Heading 1
    1.
    2.
    3.
    Heading 2
    1.
    4.
    5.
    To be more clear, this is only a problem when you have more than one numbered list on the same page using the same numbering style.
    This is a huge problem for those linking FM files in RH. Leaving the style as "source" in the mapping is unacceptable. For me it trails off the left side of the page and you cannot even see the number.
    The only thing that comes close to a workaround is "convert to text." But the formatting is just terrible. There is no way to control the indentation between the number and the beginning text in the list. Since all of our documentation is task-oriented, with numbered steps, suddenly this shortcoming has just doomed all of our documentation to a terribly sloppy and unprofessional aesthetic.
    If anyone has any other insights regarding how this could work, please contact me.
    Thanks,
    Douglas

  • Numbered list spacing

    Hi,
    I asked a question about this previously but didn't find a solution.
    I wonder if anyone knows how I can set my numbered lists to double line spacing, as at present it is on single line spacing and I have to constantly go back and insert an extra space and re-adjust which is more time-consuming than if I could just set them
    to double line spacing permanently.  Surely there must be a simple solution?!
    Any help vastly appreciated!
    FP

    Where do I find the settings for the 12 points of spacing before the list paragraph style?  I just want to set up the 1, 2, 3, so that they are doubly spaced - I just want to use the bog standard list, I don't want to go tinkering about too
    much creating new stuff.  Anything for an easy life!  Can you tell me where I can change this spacing for the standard list, I can't see how to do this, thanks :) FP
    Press Ctrl+Shift+S to display the Apply Styles pane. Type in List Paragraph. Click the Modify button. Click the Format drop down and then click Paragraph. On the Indents and Spacing tab, specify the desired value for Spacing Before.
    Click OK. If you want to transfer this setting to your template, select "New documents based on this template" before clicking OK in the Modify Style dialog box.
    Note that this assumes you are using the "quick" approach, that is, you have
    not assigned a paragraph style to each list level.

  • Why can't I define bullet paragraph in Basic Paragraph style?

    I would like to set up my Basic Paragraph style so that I can quickly apply bullets to individual paragraphs - using MY preferred indents - without having to create a new style for the bullet paragraphs. I tried changing the settings of the Basic Paragraph style, with no documents open, but it doesn't seem to want to accept my choice of indents. First I selected bullets and set an indent, but then the whole paragraph defaults to bullets. When I switch the bullet setting back to "none" the only thing that it keeps is the last setting I chose for tabs. (Which simultaneously changes the default tab setting for all paragraphs.) But when I create a new doct and start a bullet paragraph, the indents always default to .25/-.25, and any tab setting LESS than .25 results in the first line indenting to the tab setting, but the rest of the paragraph indenting to .25. There seems to be no way to change the default indent for bullets without creating a new paragraph style. And usually I'm fine with that. But I thought I would like to have a quick default using the Basic Paragraph style. Am I missing something or is this just not possible?
    Here is a visual/verbal screenshot to help explain:

    Let's see if I understand this differently from the others. You want to apply bullets manually from time to time without having to select a new style, you want to do this by pressing the bulleted list button in the Control panel, and you want settings for tabs and indents other than the default. Is that correct?
    As far as I can tell there is no way currently to do this. You cannot set up the parameters for bullets unless the text cursor is active or you are defining a style, so there is no way to set up new defaults. You don't want to set up parameteres everytime you need a bullet, so, either you type the bullets manually, tab and insert an indent to here character, which is actually a lot more work, or you go ahead and set up the style. You can access the style list in the dropdown on the Control panel, or you can add a keyboard shortcut to give you quick access, or hit Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) + Enter to access Quick apply and start typing the name of the style (almost as fast as a keyboard shortcut).
