Create PDF command line

Is it possible to create a new pdf via command line? I am actually trying to create a new web page using this method.

Hi John
Actually, you can. But creating an empty PDF by commandline is maybe not what you want. Depending on the web-technology you are using it may be better to use this technology to create the PDF directly. in Java there are a lot of frameworks available to create PDF, like iText or PDFBox.
In Ruby on Rails you have plugins doing the same thing.
A bit strange, the answer of Aandi ;-), eh?

  • How to create a "Command Line"/"Text Validation"

    I want to create a command line like the picture. I'm using "Input Text" method for text. Variable name is "myText", Instance Name is "line".
    How can I use "if" in input text like this:
    Command name is: exit, if user wrote "exit" command, exit the flash app.

    This is a pretty old thread (I know I came across this while searching for something similar recently), but I figured I'd throw this out there in case other people might find this useful. As I write this, JavaFX's latest version is 1.3... which may have added the needed functionality since the last post.
    You can now create a multi-line text area using a TextBox and by specifying the nubmer of lines and setting the "multiline" value to true. It may not offer all of the same functionality as JTextArea, but it did the job for what I needed... newlines by pressing enter, scrollbar if text surpasses height, etc.
    Here's a simple example:
    Group {
       content: [
          TextBox {
             text: "This is a multi-line textbox"
             lines: 10  // <-- this may/may not be necessary depending on your situation. Default is 5.
             multiline: true
    }Edited by: loeschg on Jul 29, 2010 2:59 PM

  • How do I create a "command-line-interface" for a game?

    Hey people,
    For a game I need to make a DOS-like command-line-interface where the user has at least 3 options to answer with, does anyone know how to go about this?
    Hope someone here can help me out!
    Kind regards,
    Angela

    I'm not sure what part of this you are having difficulty with. Imagine for a moment that instead of asking for your end user to type something into a text-entry field and to monitor what they type (perhaps when the ENTER key is pressed), that instead you provide 3 buttons on your stage. Responding to a button press in this scenario is much the same as responding to typed user input - your movie does something based on user interaction. Going back to the user entered text scenario, a text or field sprite can detect the ENTER key being pressed and examine the string the user has entered, something like:
    on keyDown me
      if _key.keyCode = 36 then
        stopEvent
        sText = sprite(me.spriteNum).member.text
        case sText of
          "hack": -- do whatever you need to here
          "research":
          "wait":
          otherwise:
        end case
      else
        pass
      end if
    end

  • Creating a command line program reading AEP/AEPX files?

    I'm new with After Effects SDK, and I wanted to know if it's possible to use SDK to implement a command line program that gets information such as duration and frame rate in AEP/AEPX files.
    aerender, a command line render program provided by After Effects, prints out these information before rendering. But it doesn't seem to be able to print out the information without doing rendering.
    I saw a related thread here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/844341
    But what I want is simpler. I don't need to alter the AEP/AEPX files. I just want to obtain the information quickly from an AEP/AEPX file. Is it possible to write such a tool using SDK?
    Thanks!

    hi eliang.cs!
    yes, i'm the same guy who answered on the other thread.
    everything the API does, it does through AE as a plug-in.
    so if you have AE running (even just the renderer), your project loaded and your plug-in present, you can access all the data you described with no problem, and export it out in whatever way you want. (a plug-in is actually a DLL, so you can do anything you want, even on an OS level)
    you can access the data on all elements of the project including comps, layers, footage, render queue, ect...
    having said that, you can do all of this using a script instead of a plug-in.
    scripts are much easier to build.
    perhaps there's even a script out there that does what you're looking for, or something very close that could easily be adjusted.

  • Creating PDF- On-line

    I have been creating PDF online for a while now.  Starting last month when I download my newsletter to make it a pdf. file it puts it into 4 separate pages.  Use to put in into 2 pages.  Now when I publish it to our web page it is hard to read because it cuts off some pages to go to the next page.  I would appreciate all suggestions.

    Is this regarding CreatePDF?  → http://forums.adobe.com/community/createpdf

  • Create pdf off-line?

    How do I create a PDF from scanned documents in Adobe 8 without having to use Acrobat online? I followed the procedures in Adobe Help section, but when I click on File, I don't have an option to just "create PDF"; I only have an option to "create Adobe PDF online"... please help!

    Adobe doesn't offer a free service to convert files to pdf. Other companies do offer pdf creation. For example, the Macintosh OS offers this functionality. There are freeware pdf converters by all means do a Google search. Microsoft offers one that works with their newer Office Suites. But if you want the quality and functionality that Acrobat offers, then you need to purchase it.

  • How to pass multiple words as a search argument on the Acrobat Command Line?

    I am trying to launch Acrobat using a multi-word search parameter on a Windows XP box. However, Acrobat is stripping the spaces between words. For example, I am trying to load Acrobat and have it search for the phrase "vision changes" using a Command Line like this:
    C:\>"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A search="vision changes" c:\temp\theDocument.pdf
    When Acrobat loads, it shows the search panel with the phrase "visionchanges" in it. The space between the two words is gone and naturally it can't find the phrase.
    I have read both the PDF Command Line parameter documents I could find. This format works fine for URLs, but for Shelling Acrobat on the local system, it doesn't work because of the space stripping problem. I have tried lots of different variants of quote characters, escape characters, even HTML characters like "&nbps;", but nothing works.
    Does anyone have an answer?
    For the curious here are links to the two PDF documents I found that cover the command line arguments:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/PDFOpenParameters.pdf
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hey Robert,
    Did you note that in the "pdf_open_parameters.pdf" document, it says that the value of the Search parameter is treated as a list of (single) words, not as a string of words (phrase)?
    It says it explicitly: "You can search only for single words. You cannot search for a string of words."
    PS: I'm replying to your query as a sort of thank you for posting the links to those documents. It helped me to find the way of conditioning how to open a pdf.

  • Launch executable with command line arguments

    I have a programmer that I need to launch in my cvi code.  I tried the system command and lauchexecutable command but cannot get the programmer to lauch correctly.  If I run it from the command prompt or create a windows shortcut it works fine.  Here is the shortcut I created:
    C:\TPD\SAVS20P3\asix\up\up.exe /e c:\tpd\savs20p3\q33.hex/erase /q /p
    I'm trying to run the up.exe software with /e c:\tpd\v20_hex\v20.hex /erase /q /p as the command line paramters.
    I tried the following code which created the above path with command line
     strcpy(filename,"C:\\tpd\\savs20p3\\asix\\up\\up.exe /e c:\\tpd\\savs20p3\\hex_ee\\");   ///e c:\\tpd\\savs20p3\\hex_ee\\"");
      strcat(filename, hfile);//hex file name will change dynamically
      strcat(filename, "/q /p");
    I then tried LaunchExecutable(filename) and system(filename).  The system functions gives an error.  Its trying to lauch the /e c:\tpd\v20_hex\v20.hex file
    any suggestions.  I beieve its a simple syntax error.

    Well, apart evident typos in the code you posted, which is not creating the command line you stated, I can only think that before "/q" you should add a space to separate the option from the filename.
    This code should create the correct command line:
    strcpy (hfile, "c:\\tpd\\v20_hex\\v20.hex");
    strcpy (filename, "C:\\tpd\\savs20p3\\asix\\up\\up.exe /e ");
    strcat (filename, hfile);
    strcat (filename, " /erase /q /p");
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Breakpoints not working with Command Line Project

    I have created a “Command Line Utility” “C++ Tool” and I am unable to breakpoint into the code. I’m in the Debug environment and select “Debug Executable” but no luck. I created the sample tutorial which is a Coco Hello World example and was able to get breakpoints to work there. I downloaded and installed XCode yesterday. Been trying to get breakpoints to work every since with no luck. Thanks in advance.

    OK, the plot thickens a little. I was being too aggressive on my breakpoint. If I breakpoint at the first cout then I can breakpoint. The problem is if I break after the cin. Breakpoints after cin won’t execute and if I pause all context is lost – like the stack got corrupted.
    <pre>
    #include <iostream>
    #define ENDFILE "CTRL-D or CTRL-Q then CTRL-D in XCODE"
    int main (int argc, char * const argv[])

    std::cout << "Hello, World!\n";

    int charCount;
    int lineCount;
    lineCount = 0;
    std::cout << "Enter a line or press " << ENDFILE << ": ";
    std::cin.get(next);
    while (!std::cin.eof())
    charCount = 0;

  • Parsing commands from a command line, command-pattern?

    I'd like to create a command line where user type their commands and the application will invoke the appropriate action. There could be many commands with different arguments.
    example:
    FDA G 1033052
    XXLD TA 93843234 G 928322
    etc
    each command has different arguments and each command should perform a db task (it's long).
    Also, the commands can be undo (eg, if user clicks UNDO it will undo the last command)
    for this I realized I need to build the command pattern (hold a stack of all commands) but I'm still debating with some issues:
    1. What parser should I build in order to execute the command
    2. How should I encapsulate the commands in a way that will be easier to invoke, should I add all commands in the beginning to a map where the first argument will be the key and the value will be the class?
    Thank you

You are creating a language. How you interpret the language depends on the definition of the language and specifics of the implementation.
    You could certainly do it as you suggest but there are many other variations as well.

  • QT Command Line Question

    I am looking for a script which I can convert movies through a simple line of code while being able to adjust Quality, file types to convert to, Frame Rates ...
    Pretty much all that Quicktime Pro can do.
    does anyone have an idea of where I can start?

    Try starting by opening the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript folder, loading the QuickTime Player's AppleScript dictionary, and working until you create a script which does what you want. If you succeed in doing this, you can then create a command line method of converting the movies if you want to; post back for further assistance.
    There are a few pure command line tools for QuickTime, but all the ones I found can only play QuickTime files without having the capability to modify anything.

    We are trying to implement a process so that any document that needs to be printed through our Java application will be printed as PDF using Adobe Reader. Current Situation: The above command line parameter when executed is working as expected in a User's Workspace. When executed in a command line on the Application Server is working as expected. But, the same is not working while executing it from Deployed environment.Software being used: 1. Adobe 11.0 enterprise version. 2. Webshpere Application Server 8.5.5.2. • Apply Quartz filter to a PDF from command line

    Hello
    I'm trying to apply a quartz filter to a PDF document via the command line. I know it's possible with Python and there's a script at /Developer/Examples/Quartz/Python/filter-pdf.py that does just that. The problem with this is that the script is Python 2.3 and my OS X 10.5.8 is running Python 2.5 - so I'm getting the error message:
    +<Error>: The function `CGPDFDocumentGetMediaBox' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Please use `CGPDFPageGetBoxRect' instead.+
    I don't know Pyton but I checked the file and I grep'ed the Developer folder to see if I can find where CGPDFDocumentGetMediaBox is being used, but no matter what I changed, I didn't manage to get the script working.
    So I guess my question is one of the following:
    How can I update the developer example to a new, functioning version?
    or how do I get rid of the deprecated functions that script is using?
    or is there any other way to apply a quartz filter to a PDF via the command line? (I've read that SIPS is able to accomplish this, but I couldn't find out how..)
    Thank you for any help!
    Cheers

    There a quartz filter printer hidden in OS X which makes applying a quartz filter to a PDF file on the command line a piece of cake. This is the syntax:
    +/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./quartzfilter inputfile filterpath outputfile+
    So if I wanted to convert big.pdf to small.pdf it would go like this:$
    +/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/quartzfilter big.pdf /System/Library/Filters/Reduce\ File\ Size.qfilter small.pdf+
    The "Reduce File Size" filter isn't that great though when it comes to reducing the file size for printing. Jerome Colas wrote a nice article about quartz filters though: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6109445&tstart=0
    You can also create your own with the ColorSync utility in Mac OS X. A Quartz filter is nothing but an XML, so you could also generate one on the fly if necessary.
