Create pfile from spfile ORA-27037

This always worked on some other Databases I worked in past. however this Database raise error. Here are the steps on how I did it
Old initSID.ora file located in directory below
cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
sqlplus / as sysdba...
SQL> create pfile from spfile ;
create pfile from spfile
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 3
Any idea why this does not work?

This is something strange, if the database is using spfile then why there is no value in VALUES column, see below:(like this)
SQL> show parameter pfile;
NAME TYPE VALUE
spfile string ?/dbs/[email protected]
Do you able to see physical file .

    Create pfile from spfile when oracle in idle mode
    from where it creates pfile?? note:-oracle is in idle stage..

    Since you are asking for creating PFILE so I think below text will answer your question :
    If you do not specify spfile_name, then the database uses the spfile that is currently associated with the instance, usually the one that was used a startup. If no spfile is associated with the instance, then the database looks for the platform-specific default server parameter file name. If that file does not exist, then the database returns an error.http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/statements_6008.htm#i2072768

    File created.Reason why we need it:
    We used to have an instance which consumed 5 gb Memory_target and then we shut it down. It was using SPFILE. Now we want to bring up this instance with only 3gb Memory_target. So we are thinking of editing the pfile created using the above method. It should be fine. Right?

    I gave full permisions to every on the temp directory and still I am having the issues.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Yet again an example of how easy it is to become 'guru': simply read the documentation and you will be one, because almost all people asking questions here are asking doc questions.
    To make this work you need to make sure the OracleService<SID> is running as a domain administrator account.
    By default Oracle runs using the local administrator, which doesn't have access to remote drives.

  • Pfile vs spfile

    Hello all,
    I want to know whether Oracle9i running on my server is using spfile or pfile configuration.
    Thanks.

    hi hans,
    good point indeed, i would like to ask some question if you don't mind!!!!!!!
    i have a database, and i opened it by using
    SQL>startup pfile=/path/pfile.ora
    database open
    the next time i opened it, it do not need to provide path of pfile, rather it get started directly, and oracle first search for the spfile am i right??? it looks at the default location of pfile for database parameters.....please correct me if i am wrong...and we use
    SQL> create spfile from pfile=/path/pfileinit.ora
    spfile created
    you are right pfile is used only to find database parameters, but what if i want to change some parameters that are not static,that is need to down database, at that time we should know the path of pfile....please correct me if i am wrong, although we can create
    SQL> create pfile=/path/pfileinit.ora from spfile;
    and then make changes to pfile as we want.....am i thinking same way that i should think???
    thanks and regards

  • ORA-19507 when restoring pfile from autobackup

    Hey,
    We're testing our disaster recovery process and recently installed netbackup 5.1 on a AIX 5.3 server. Our database is 10.2.0.4.
    We've imported the tapes, seemingly successfully. Now we are trying to restore the pfile from an autobackup of the spfile. • ORA-12571 error while creating packages from Windows clients

    Hello,
    We are facing the ORA-12571 error while creating / replacing packages from Windows Clients connected to a 8.1.7.2.0 db on a Solaris server.
    However, there are
    1. no errors in connecting and creating transactions from a Sql session
    2. no errors in creating / replacing unwrapped/wrapped small (few lines) packages
    3. no errors in connecting from a Unix session (remote telnet sessions inclusive).
    This happens only when creating wrapped/unwrapped packages, source code of which is greater than 500 kb approx.
    Can somebody help me resolve this issue. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.
    Lakshmanan, K

    Update: I had unintentionally left my custom tablespace in READONLY state after an earlier experiment with transportable tablespaces. After putting the tablespace back into READ WRITE mode and creating a new template, I was successfully able to create a new db from the template.
    I'm still a little curious why this procedure wouldn't work properly with a READONLY tablespace, however.

  • Problem creating a new spfile on a standby database.

    I'm running an oracle 9.2.0.8 physical standby where I've changed some parameters creating a new pfile. The instance is working fine with this pfile, but I want to use an spfile. To do this, I've cancelled recovery, created a new spfile from the current pfile and shutdown the instance. Then the problem appears when I mount the instance. I check the parameters I've changed in the pfile and these changes are not present on my "new" spfile. If I take a look to spfile parameter...., my instance is running with old one! Do you have any suggestion about how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    >
    Did You restarted instance in order to use a new changed pfile?
    And only after that created spfile?
    >
    Yes, I've restarted the instance to use the new pfile, and also after create the new spfile.
    >
    What You mean with "take a look to spfile parameter"?
    You checked out and saw that database is still using pfile?
    >
    I've executed the following sentence:
    "show parameter spfile"
    and the output shows me that the file in use was the old one.
    >
    If you don't specify on startup what file to use spfile or pfile then oracle automaticaly looks into $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and search in this order:
    * spfileSID.ora
    * spfile.ora
    * initSID.ora
    * init.ora
    Do you have under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs spfileSID.ora or spfile.ora?
    >
    I've the following files under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs:
    * spfileSID.ora (that's the new spfile)
    * initSID.ora (that's the old spfile)
    * initxxxxx.ora (that's my custom pfile)
    I've created the new spfile with my standby database on mount state, with the following sentence:
    "create spfile from pfile"
    When I restart the instance and try to mount it (using the new spfile), I get an ORA-00214 error.
    So, I'm still running with my custom pfile.

  • Oracle9i linux and spfile@.ora

    Hello,
    I have notice problem to startup database with dbstart script.
    plateforme linux Redhat 7.2.
    Chan i run dbstart, database start with a config file name spfile{SID}.ora (in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs) and not with the $ORACLE_BASE/admin/{SID}/pfile/init.ora config file.
    If i delete spfile{SID}.ora file, dbstart use the good config file. But i don't see any reference to this spfile in dbstart script.
    Could anyone explain me this bug?
    Thanks

    I'm guessing that you don't have a backup?
    If that is the case do you have another init file in the dbs directory? If so copy it to initT00TIV.ora and change the obvious lplaces where the instance name appears
    Create a minimal init.ora file to try and get the instance started:
    i.e. Here is an example
    control_files = (/u01/oracle/oradata/T00TIV/control01.ora,
    /u02/oracle/oradata/T00TIV/control02.ora,
    /u03/oracle/oradata/T00TIV/control03.ora)
    # OBVIOUSLY, I DON'T KNO WHERE YOUR CONTROL FILE ARE!
    undo_management = auto
    db_name = T00TIV

    hi
    what are the apps version local and remote database???
    Snapshot too old errors occur because Oracle can 't reconstruct a consistent
    image of a block for the purposes of a consistent read.
    I feel at remote database, you are using UNDO, it will be rather easy to iincrease the undo retention time or increase the undo tablespace size.. if you are dealing with roll back segments, you may have rollback segments whose optimal values are too small...
    increase roll back segments size and select again then
    the following metalink notes might be helpful
