Create Table (with advanced options)
Hi, I'm quite new to SQL developer and learning Oracle® Database SQL Developer User's Guide Release 1.5 (3 Tutorial: Creating Objects for a Small Database)
I'm trying to create a table called PATRONS as it states, but I can not find Schema: MDSYS and Type: SDO_GEOMETRY (right now the Type is empty under my schema)
Is that somethng wrong with my connection? How should I resolve this problem and continue the tutorial? Please advise. Thank you.
The MDSYS schema is one of the host schemas for Oracle Locator (a subset of Oracle Spatial), and SDO_GEOMETRY is one of the types - in fact the main type. It looks like Oracle Locator was not installed in your database when it was created. It is not available with Oracle Express Edition, but it is included with Standard or Enterprise edition. Installing it is optional when the database is created, so I guess your DBA decided not to install it. It is installed with the same scripts that install Oracle Multimedia. The instructions can be found at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28415/ap_instl_upgrd.htm#IMURG11000. This document is for 11g, but the instructions are pretty much the same for 10g and 9i.

OID users ( EUS) problem with grant create table with admin
Hi,
We activated enterprise users in the OID.
There is a role APP_ADMIN that has the following grants:
create user
drop user
create table with admin option
this is for an application that creates BI schemas, so it needs to be able to create other users.
I have granted these to a local role, and the user has access to the local role, thanks to the OID setup.
The create and drop user work.
however, the grant create table to another user does not work.
Is there an issue with 'with admin option' grants in Enterprise user security?
Regards,
PeterIf I grant
grant create table to test_role with admin option;
it does not work
if I grant
GRANT GRANT ANY PRIVILEGE to test_role WITH ADMIN OPTION;
it does work.
The test command as user with test_role is:
grant create table to test_usr;
very strange!
If the user is a standard user and I create role test_role
and grant create table to test_role with admin option it works.
but if I convert the user to an EUS user and the same privilege is given to the role ( role is granted to a global role to an enterprise role)
it doesnt work

How to create table with row type in smart forms
How to create table with row type in smart forms with out line type
please explain me the procedureHI,
A table type describes the structure and functional attributes of an internal table in ABAP. In ABAP programs you can reference a table type TTYP defined in the ABAP Dictionary with the command DATA <inttab> TYPE TTYP. An internal table <inttab> is created in the program with the attributes defined for TTYP in the ABAP Dictionary.
A table type is defined by:
its line type, that defines the structure and data type attributes of a line of the internal table
the options for managing and accessing the data ( access mode) in the internal table
the key ( key definition and key category) of the internal table
The row type is defined by directly entering the data type, length and number of decimal places or by referencing a data element, structured type ( structure, table or view) or other table type. Or the row type can be a reference type.

Problem CREATE TABLE with PRIMARY KEY Still in Trouble ! Please Help!
Hi there !
I use the orcle 8i, and i don't know why i can't create table with any primary key EXample:
SQL> CREATE TABLE O_caisses
2 (No_caisse NUMBER(3) constraint caisses_pk PRIMARY KEY,
3 NB_BILLETS NUMBER(5)
4 )
5 /
CREATE TABLE O_caisses
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-18008: cannot find OUTLN schema
***********some Debuger show me this way: *********************
Well there r certain point u got to notice when creating a table with constraints.
1) U can create table with COLUMN level constraint.
2) U can create table with TABLE level constraint.
3) In COLUMN level constraint u can't give a constraint a name
but only mention the type of constraint.
4) In TABLE level constraint u can give a name to constraint.
Following are the examples of both
--COLUMN LEVEL
CREATE TABLE O_caisses
(No_caisse NUMBER(3) PRIMARY KEY,
NB_BILLETS NUMBER(5));
--TABLE LEVEL
CREATE TABLE O_caisses
(No_caisse NUMBER(3),
NB_BILLETS NUMBER(5),
constraint pk_caisse primary key (No_caisse));
********************And this is another one:*****************
SQL>grant create any outline to username;
BUT the problem is still present, i don't know what to do now !
Please could some body help me !
Thanks alot!
Luong.The clue is in the error message: the OUTLN schema is missing.
This is something Oracle 8i introduced to help manage the CBO (or soemthing equally geeky and internal). For some reason your database no longer has this user. It ought to be created automatically during installation (or upgrade) but catproct may not have completed probably or some over zealous admin type has dropped it.
Solution is to re-install (or re-upgrade) as you cannot create this user on their own. Alas.

How to create table with dynamic rows
Hi Ppl,
I have an array lets say with length of n. I want to creata table with 2 columns and no of rows = array length.
lets say array length is 3 ( array[0] = 1, array[1] = 2, array[2] = 3) so the table should have 2 columns and 3 rows.
After creation of table I want to display each array value in each row.
Can somebody help me in this asap.
Thanks \
AshishHi, Thanks for reply... actually this is one part of rtf. I have put values from xml to an array and now I want to create a table with no of rows = length of array. so here xml will not be useful. could you pls think of it without xml.
result is like
lets says below is the array
array[0] = a
array[1] = b
array[2] = c
array length = 3
so there should be a table of 2 coulmns and 3 rows. Second column of first row will show 'a', Second column of second row wil show 'b' and Second column of third row will show 'c'.
Hope this is useful.

Af:table with filter option
Hi,
I have a bounded task flow with page-fragments, first activity is method-call(execute-query) and second is a view activity. On the view activity I dropped a read-only, af:table, enabled filters. Although execute query is successful af:table does not display correct records. When I delete af:table and add it again with no filter everything works as expected (also deleted the search region definition from page def file). af:table with filter option adds a search region to executable section of page-definition file, with Empty Criteria in my case. I want af:table to display results after execute-query method activity and decorate the af:table with filters. Filter would be enabled only when users enter filter criteria. Is that possible? Am I missing something?
Best Regards,
SalimHi,
I found new problems with my case. When we use filter option with af:table filter criteria is not cleared. Forum search returned Re: Problem with 11g table - filter . Suppose that user enters a criteria and presses enter, this executes query and results are displayed as expected. Then user clears the previously entered criteria presses enter o display all records, and no results are displayed. Looking at the trace for a testcase based on HR schema, I observed that all the bind variables in the query is saved and passivated, Please observe that for every new criteria entry (for the same field, Emp.ENAME) a SQL clause is added at the end. Although one might expect that all the criteria related to af:table filter is cleared and rebuilded for every request rather than saving them all, which results in bad end user experience. So is there a way to go with af:table with filter? Am I missing something?
Best Regards,
Salim

Luong.Luong,
Your syntax is fine. It looks like you don't have the correct database privileges to create the table. The error message you're getting suggests that you don't have CREATE ANY OUTLINE privileges. You should log in as a user than can grant these privileges and give yourself the correct privileges. I think the syntax is
SQL>grant create any outline to username;

Error when creating index with parallel option on very large table
I am getting a
"7:15:52 AM ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kxfqupp_bad_cvl], [7940], [6], [0], [], [], [], []"
error when creating an index with parallel option. Which is strange because this has not been a problem until now. We just hit 60 million rows in a 45 column table, and I wonder if we've hit a bug.
Version 10.2.0.4
O/S Linux
As a test I removed the parallel option and several of the indexes were created with no problem, but many still threw the same error... Strange. Do I need a patch update of some kind?This is most certainly a bug.
From metalink it looks like bug 4695511 - fixed in 10.2.0.4.1 -
Advanced Table Compression Create Table with LOBs
Hi,
I need some help with the Advanced Table Compression when creating a table especially when they contain a LOB.
Here are 3 examples:
Exp#1
CREATE TABLE emp (
emp_id NUMBER,
first_name VARCHAR2(128),
last_name VARCHAR2(128)
) COMPRESS FOR OLTP;
This one is ok - all elements are compressed.
Exp#2
CREATE TABLE photos (
photo_id NUMBER,
photo BLOB)
LOB(photo) STORE AS SECUREFILE (COMPRESS LOW);
This one I am confused - is it just the LOB(photo) that is compressed or the whole table. If it is just the LOB then what syntax do I need for the whole table?
I also assume that the LOB is being stored in the default tablespace associated with this table - correct me if I am wrong!
Exp#3
CREATE TABLE images (
image_id NUMBER,
image BLOB)
LOB(image) STORE AS SECUREFILE (TABLESPACE lob_tbs COMPRESS);
This one I am confused - I think it is telling me that LOB(image) is being compresses and stored in tablespace lob_tbs and the other elements are being stored uncompressed in the default tablespace.
Again if it is just the LOB then what syntax do I need for the whole table?
Thanks & regards

Creating table with null and not null values.
I have to create a table with 5 Null nd 5 Not Null fields.My questionis which fields are place first?Not or Not Null and why???
What you mean is: the person who asked you the question thought the order of columns was important, and wanted to see if you agreed. Or maybe they were just asking the question to see whether you thought it was important (as a test of your understanding of the database).
When I started out in Oracle I was told that it was good practice to have the mandatory columns first and then the optional columns. But if you do some research you find this: the impact of column ordering on space management is: empty nullable columns at the end of the table take up zero bytes whereas empty nullable columns at the middle of the table take up one byte each. I think if that saving really is important to you you need to spring for an additional hard drive.
Besides, even if you do organise your columns as you suggest, what happens when you add an eleventh NOT NULL column to your table? It gets tacked on to the end of your table. Your whole neat organisation is blown.
What does still matter is the positioning of large VARCHAR2 columns: they should be the last columns on your table in case they create chaining. Then any query that doesn't need the large columns can be satisfied without reading the chained block, something that can't be guaranteed if you've got columns after a VARCHAR2(4000) column. This doesn't apply to CLOBs, etc. which are stored separately anyway.

What is the use for CREATING VIEW WITH CHECK OPTION?
Dear Legends,
I have a doubt
What is the use for creating view?
A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..
What is the use for creating a view with check option?
A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.
A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.
A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??
A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???
Please clear my doubt's Legends
Lots of Thanks....

... What is the use for creating view?
A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..Most views are created and used for convenience. A view is a saved query. If the same operations are often done, then it can be very convenient to code those operations once, in a view, and refer to the view rather than explicitly doing those operations.
Sometimes, views are created and used for security reasons. For example, you many want to allow some users to see only certain rows or certain columns of a table.
Views are necessary for INSTEAD OF triggers.
What is the use for creating a view with check option?
A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.The reason is integrity, not necessarily referential integrity. The CHECK option applies only when DML is done through the view. It prohibits certain changes. For example, if a user can't see certain rows through a view, the CHECK option keeps the user from creating such rows.
A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.I'm not sure what you mean. Please give an example.
A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??No. Using CHECK OPTION, you can do some inserts and updates, but not others. The columns involved may or may not have constraints in either case.
A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???If you try to violate a constraint, you'll get an error. That happens in views with or without the CHECK OPTION, and also in tables.
