Create volumes on VMware datastore

Hi,
I have followed the vova documentation and deployed openstack in a testing environment.
I have created ubuntu images and using that I can launch new instances which seems to be working well. After launching the instance, I can see a folder with their id on the datastore which is defined in vcenter.
But when I create a new volume in openstack, I cannot see anything on the datastore or in the cinder-volumes?! I wonder if the creation of a volume without an instance is being done on the local disk of the vova vm? Also attaching a volume to an existing instance seems not doing anything.
Is there anyway to make sure where a volume has been created? and how can I make it to create the volume on the defined datastore which is being used for vm objects?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
About attaching a volume, I created a screencast that I'm attaching to this post.
What I check to see if the volume has been attached or not is the below conditions:
     1. The web interface GUI shows no attachment for the volume.
     2. The "cinder list" command returns the volumes with the "attached to" field being empty.
     3. When I login to the nova instance, the command "fdisk -l" is not showing the device that I used in the "volume-attach" command.
and the problem is that even the command returns a "0" status which I assume it means the operation has been done successfully. (Not sure if it is the right way to check the result of my command?)
Thank you again for your time.

  • Unable to create volume - error message when exporting

Hello - relatively new Mac and iphoto user here.
I'm trying to export photos from iphoto to a 2 GB thumb drive. I keep getting the error message "unable to create volume" when I try to move anything but very small batches of photos over. What's going on? I tried to create a folder on my desktop for the photos but then when I try to move from there I get an error message telling me the photo "is in use" and can't be moved to the thumb drive.
I would move them to my external hard drive but I'm having trouble with it too. It won't even show up. When I run a disk utility on it it says it can't be verified. Sigh. So that's a whole other issue that will probably take something like Disk Warrior to clean up.
In the meantime, I'm trying to move images to the thumb drive then I'm putting the thumb drive in my other computer and moving the images from the thumb drive to it's external hard drive A long process when you can only move about 20 images at a time from iphoto.
I'm just trying to move a good bit of old photos out of iphoto on the Mace because I'm scared that the program or even my entire computer is going to crash and I'm going to have data loss.
What can I do about the "unable to create volume" message? And what's with the "file in use" error message when I try to move the images off a file folder on the desktop.
Is there a better way to move 1GB of photos all at once to the thumb drive?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Seems to be two issues complicating things here:
I'm trying to export photos from iphoto to a 2 GB thumb drive. I keep getting the error message "unable to create volume" when I try to move anything but very small batches of photos over.
What format is that wee drive? Mostly there are FAT16 or FAT 32 and there is a limit to the number of objects they can have on the root of the drive. The workaround is to export to a Folder on the desktop and copy that over.
    Which brings us to:
I tried to create a folder on my desktop for the photos but then when I try to move from there I get an error message telling me the photo "is in use" and can't be moved to the thumb drive.
You will sometimes get this message when you try to export two files +with the same name+ to a Folder. As you know your camera is well capable of producing many files called something like DSC_1234.jpeg. In iPhoto these will be in separate folders, so no problem. However, when you go to export them to the Folder on the desktop if iPhoto continues the export one will overwrite the error.
Solution: Give the Pics a title (Photos -> Batch Change) and a sequential number. Then when you export, in the export dialogue you have the option to use the Title as filename.

  • "Unable to create volume" error when exporting

Exporting photos from iPhoto gives me the "unable to create Volume" error. iPhoto and Mountain Lion are the latest versions, and most recent updates. Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS. Destination drive is formatted Mac OSX Extended (Journaled, Encrypted).
Library has already been rebuilt. No change.
PNGs have been deleted from library. No change.
Tried batch re-titling every image in the library library, and exporting so that exported files were named according to title, followed by a number--thus no two files would have the same name. No change.
    Any suggestions?

Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS.
    Likely cause right there.
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Using WMI to Partition Disks & Create Volumes

    Hi All,
I have been searching for a method of partitioning and creating volumes which does not use Diskpart, but have had a difficult time finding one.
I have a python library which runs on a Linux machine and remotely administers a Windows host via OpenSSH, and Linux and Solaris hosts via Ssh, in addition to various disk arrays located on a SAN. We have begun looking for a solution native to Windows, but
have been having a hard time finding any way of cutting up disks, short of using Diskpart. In the currently implementation, Diskpart is used, however a lot of screen scraping of the shell occurs and it can be very temperamental.
The hopeful solution is to use pyWinRM (or some other python module which can remotely administer Windows from Linux) to execute commands remotely. This has been successful in a number of simpler instances (getting drive letters, getting installed program
info, etc) but has failed when trying to do things that require interactivity (i.e. Diskpart). For your references, the pyWinRM module can only execute one command at a time, per shell, which is similar to PsExec and Paramiko.
Any suggestion or ideas are encouraged and welcomed

    Hi AdamGHall,
As far as I know, WMI can not be used to create disk partiction, if you can run a windows powershell cmdlet from linux, maybe this cmdlet
New-Partition can be helpful for you to create disk partition.
    I hope this helps.

  • "Unable to Create Volumes" error message in iPhoto export

Hi. I am attempting to export all of my videos from iPhoto onto an external drive. I have read several articles in this community, but so far my problem has not been solved. I keep getting the error message "Unable to /create/volumes/Lisa's Prtable Drive..." when I attempt to export. I have experimented with changing batch names, selecting fewer movies to export, etc. I AM able to export one video at a time, but I have 719 videos to move, and would much rather do them all at once.
    Thank you for any help!

  • Error when creating volume on data group for acfs

    Hi,
I want to create ACFS file system on solaris SPARC system which is running solaris 10.9. I have created data group successfully but i get an error when i try to create volume.
    ASMCMD> volcreate -G OEMLIB -s 30G oemlibvol1
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15472: volume library cannot be loaded. Platform may not support volume creation. (DBD ERROR: OCIStmtExecute)
i read that solaris 10.8 or more support acfs and my oracle grid software is also 11.2 higher.
what could be the issue? Do i need to manually load drivers for ADVM? where are they located?

    Thanks
    Thanks for your input.
We are missing the ACFS binaries after we installed 11.2.0.1 GRID and Database on Solaris 10 Update 8.
The following are missing from the GRID_HOME/bin:
    Acfsload, acfsroot, acfsdriverstate, acfsregitrymount, acfssinglefsmount.
I see these in 11.2.0.1 version of a LINUX install in our datacenter but don’t see it in our Solaris Install.

  • Getting "Unable to create VOLUMES/" error when exporting photos

I am trying to export a number of photos from iPhoto '08 to a USB stick that has been freshly formated with FAT 32. When iPhoto reaches a photo that has a vertical orientation the export stops and throws this error:
    "Unable to create VOLUMES/JUMP DRIVE/filename"
These photos were taken with a Canon Powershot SD700IS. The camera has the ability to sense orientation when the picture is taken. It will automatically rotate pictures that were taken while holding the camera on its side. If the picture was taken with a horizontal (normal) orientation the export is successful.
I was able to work around this by opening the offending files in Preview and saving them from there. Obviously this is a time consuming extra step that shouldn't be necessary.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them!
    Thanks!

Then you have a managed library.
Go to your Pictures Folder. There you'll see the icon for your iPhoto Library. Right Click on that icon and select 'Show Package Contents' from the resulting menu. A Finder window will open and you'll see your Library internals. Have a look for the /Originals Folder. Inside it will be the folders for your Events. These should include the full sized photos.
    If they do, then
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Unable to create volume

I have a MBP (running Lion and the latest version of iPhoto) and I'm trying to back up my 10GB of photos to a 500GB external drive.  I get most of the way through then get the message "Unable to create volume". Any ideas?
    Joe

You're exporting the photos from iPhoto, right?
That message usually means that iPhoto is unable to find one of the pics.

  • Setting up NICs and Volumes on VMware

Virtual NW 6.5.8/BM 3.8.5 on VMware 4.1. The only TID I found was for
setting up BM on VMware 2.5.
    1. In the VM Configuration tab, the VM Network shows vmnic0, which is
used to access the VM machine through vSphere, and vmnic1, which is
Down. Both adapters are in or associated with vSwitch0.
In the BM virtual machine, I added the second adapter, but I'm not sure
if that is correct or whether two additional virtual adapters need to be
    created/used.
    2. When installing BM, I created two cache volumes. However, they are
listed in iManager as one traditional partition. Is this a problem?
Even if not, the free space is not considered a pool (the only pool
listed is SYS), but rather as two free space partitions, which I cannot
seem to be able to use for two volumes I want to create.
Any help with either issue will be greatly appreciated.

To be clear, the two cache "volumes" are not listed as Volumes in
iManager, only as a single partition.

  • VMM create VM to VMware

    I saw the article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg610683.aspx
When you import a VMware template to the VMM library, the .vmdk file is no longer copied to the library. Instead, VMM only copies the metadata that is associated with the template. The .vmdk file remains in the ESX datastore. Because
of this relationship, you can deploy virtual machines by using the template much more quickly. Also, when you import a VMware template, VMM no longer deletes the source template.
That means we could only import VMware template and create VM by VMM without .vmdk file in library?

This means that when you deploy a VM based on a VMware VM template, it will fetch the physical files from the ESX datastore, so that you don't need duplicate items across your environments.

  • Two-fold question, can I export pictures from iphoto to an external drive? I have not been able to create volumes on My Passport for Mac when exporting photos, why is that?

I have a Mac Book Pro that I use iphoto 6 for my pictures. However, I noticed my hard drive was filling up too rapidly so I purchased a WD My Passport for Mac 500GB. I select photos(the number does not matter), click File>export, and select the location(and yes, I specify the size of picture's maximum, and the file extension, and I click Export and the export initializes and then stops. Telling me that it is unable to create the volumes ont the My Passport. There is plenty of space on the hard drive. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It seems like the process should be very simple to MOVE, COPY, EXPORT photos. Why is this so difficult? What am I doing wrong?

My photo library cumulative is maybe 1.3 GB tops, however I back it up to the external drive every upload. I don't think the issue is converting calculations because as I said in my previous post, sometimes when I stop transfer to the SD flash drive and restart the copying process it will complete the library of 60-80 photos in about 2 minutes like it should. The issue is that it will not proceed to copy most of the time, and the copying status bar says preparing for a long time

  • Logic 9 randomly creating Volume hyperdraw level of -15.4

    Hi all
Since I upgraded to Yosemite (yeah I know, terrible move) my Logic Pro 9 is doing the weirdest thing. I hit play on a MIDI track, and almost without fail it creates a Hyperdraw Volume value of -15.4 on the chosen track which I have to manually delete every time. I thought it was something to do with my MIDI keyboard but it's switched off and it just happened again. No other MIDI inputs.
Any idea? Looks like a stupid little bug I guess. It's ALWAYS -15.4.

I did that and when trying to install the new one it told me i allready had a newer version installed.
When my friend bought Logic Pro from the app store, he told me there was a long installation process, with entering his name etc, with me it just installed in 3 mins and didnt ask me anything.
Could there be something wrong with the install to begin with?
I am not even able to re-install this Lion in someway, im really stuck..! :/
Dont know if this concept with removing all hardware installation CDs is the perfect one..
    Any other suggestions??
