Creating 11g Database

When i am creating 11g database ..i got the below errors ..I think i given deprecated parameters ..
SQL> STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=/u101/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/dbs/initdevgrl.ora
ORA-32006: BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST initialization parameter has been deprecated
ORA-32006: USER_DUMP_DEST initialization parameter has been deprecated
ORA-27102: out of memory
SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument
could some one say what parameters i have to give for this in oracle 11.1.0

I can see you are on a unix like OS, but you didn't specify your OS platform. This error seems to be an excessively big value at some instance memory parameter or a not properly configured kernel parameter. I suggest you to take a look at the instance alert.log file and if required the trace file generated at the startup attempt.

  • How to CREATE 11G DB in UTF 8

    Hi all,
    How to create 11g Database in UTF8 Character set For Chinese and English Support.
    In DBCA
    Database Character set AL32UTF8, And National Character Set UTF8 is available. How to choose character set which should support from Forms 6i.
    Thanks
    Abk

    Forms6i uses Oracle 8.0.6 client libraries. MetaLink Note 207303.1 lists supported client/server configurations, and the last database version supported with those libraries is Oracle 9.2. The only exception is made for e-Business Suite (Oracle Applications). Therefore, you configuration is not supported.
    Anyway, Oracle 8.0.6 does not support AL32UTF8 well. You should select UTF8 as the database character set (not national character set!). You need to select a check box on DBCA interface (possibly unavailable in fast/default installation path) which allows you to see non-recommended character sets.

  • Not able to create a database link using the database gateway of oracle 11g

    HI,
    While trying to create a database link to SQL server from Oracle ,using the database gateway provided with 11g, i am getting the following error while making use of it in selecting columns from tables :
    Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
    These are the steps i have followed for setting up:
    1.Ran the set up for the Database gateway.and mentioned the SQL server name and database .ALos set up a listener.
    2. Added the following in the Listener.ora of Oraclehome 11/NETWORK/ADMIN:
    LISTENER_SQL_FCD =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =localhost) (PORT = 1541)

    (SID_NAME=dg4msql)
    (ORACLE_HOME= D:\app\20537\product\11.1.0\db_3)
    (PROGRAM=dg4msql)
    3.Added the following in tnsnames.ora inOracle home/NETWORK/ADMIN:
    dg4msql=
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1541))
    (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=dg4msql))
    (HS=OK)
    4. Following is the entry in initdg4msql.ora in C:\product\11.1.0\tg_5\dg4msql\admin:

    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    5. Created the database link :
    create database link dblink
    connect to "sa" identified by "<pswd>"
    using 'dg4msql'
    On running :select * from test1@dblink i get the following error:
    Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
    Is there any issue with the set or definition that I get the above error?

    What is the version of the Oracle database in which you have specified/and use the database link?
    If it is for example 10.2.0.3.0 you need to apply the mandatory patch for RDBMS bug 5965763 first before being able to use an 11g gateway. Have a look at MetaLink note 457808.1 for details about this patch.

    Hello;
    Generally for the connection to work you need to add something like this to the listener.ora file :
    (SID_DESC =
        (global_dbname = STANDBY.hostname)
        (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2)
        (sid_name = STANDBY)
    )You should stop and start the listener on the Standby after adding this. Also your tnsnames.ora must be correct on both the primary and the Standby.
    Also you need an INIT for the Standby side :

  • How to create a database in 11g via a bat file

    Hi
    I have had a look around the internet, but I am unable to locate a good example of how to create a database/instance in 11g via a bat file. Can anyone advise me how to do this and what other things do I need to make it work via a bat file?
    Thanks

    Let me say this - I have taken over from someone who has left a development database which developers want to use asap in a poor state and no documentation. It is only when I started looking at the database that I discovered these problems. At the same time a developer wants a script which they he run to drop and recreate a database - it only needs to be minimal - small database, a few tables and stored procedures.OUI uses RMAN restore to produce starter DB & does not CREATE DATABASE from scratch.
    It takes hours to run CATPROC & such after 100% totally empty results from CREATE DATABASE command

  • How to create a database in 11g from an archive taken from 10g

    Hi
    I appreciate that some of you may find this a silly question, but it is a situation that has been given to me.
    The situation in detail is that I am working on project where a part of a company has been sold off to someone else and I am working on part of the separation of IT Systems. The old company has supplied archive (ARC) files containing data that relates to the company which is being sold off. There are files such TSN, listener, and control files. The source data originated from an Oracle 10g database, but it is not possible to download a copy of 10g anymore, and so I have downloaded the earliest version of 11g. I have installed 11g without creating a new database, and my questions are as follows:
    1) Is it possible to re-create the database on the supplied data from the archive logs
    2) If possible, how do you so it - step by step (I am not a DBA but a Microsoft .Net Developer.
    Thanks
    Andy

    Yes, the DBA has supplied a backup of the database. All I am looking to do is to create from this backup. Is there a simple GUI that can do this for me with minimal touch? As I said I just need step-by-step instructions that can guide me through this so I don't muck it up!
    As with many things Oracle the answer is: it depends.
    There are too many potential differences between the (unknown) features your 10g database used and the feature set of 11g.
    This doc link will give you a sense of how just 'unstraight forward' it can be.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17222/upgrade.htm
    In particular see this section:
    Using the Pre-Upgrade Information Tool
    After you have installed the software for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) and any required patches, Oracle recommends that you analyze your database before upgrading it to the new release. This is done by running the Pre-Upgrade Information Tool from the environment of the database you are to upgrade. The Pre-Upgrade Information Tool is a SQL script included with Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) software. This is a required step if you are upgrading manually; otherwise, the catupgrd.sql script terminates with errors. Running the Pre-Upgrade Information Tool is also recommended if you are upgrading with DBUA, so that you can preview the items that DBUA checks.
    In other words, the normal upgrade path involves performing checks against the CURRENT 10g database to identify any real or potential problems.
    Those checks are done BEFORE you take the 10g backup.
    You should also search the net for 'oracle 11g restore 10g backup' and read some of the many threads that have been posted with your same question. They will give you a sense that the process can be problematic and dependent on the type of backup (cold, hot) and how it was taken (manually or RMAN).
    Your best chances for success are to do things the 'normal' way. That means contacting Oracle support to get the discs/download for 10g and then installing 10g and recovering the 10g database from the current 10g backup. The closer you can make the recovery environment and instance configuration the same as the original the fewer problems you are likely to have.
    Or have the old company provide either the original 10g discs or at least provide the installation, control file and configuration information so you can recover the 10g database correctly.
    As already suggested you should first make sure you have a reliable COPY of those backup files and you should use that copy for all of your testing of recovery settings.
    Please tell us if you think you will be able to obtain the 10g software for reinstallation or not.

  • Oracle 11g Install hangs when "creating clon database"

    hi, i'm new with all this stuff, i'm trying to install oracle 11g on a windows 2003 standard edition and the installation hangs in this point:
    http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1458/installni7.jpg
    it's almost an hour and it's stuck in 45% when trying to create clon database in "Creating and starting oracle instance".
    I checked the log file but it says nothing weird, just that everything went well and a "restore" was made.
    what can i do?
    thanks!!!

    If someone still needs an answer to this:
    I had a similar problem with 10g. If you use certain special characters in the password for the database during its creation, some script will hang forever at 45% of the database creation. Just use a plain password without special characters. At the end of the database creation you can change all passwords. At that stage you can use special characters without any problem.
    I don't know if this is the same in 11g, but it sounds very similar.

  • Creating Oracle 11g Database Manually on ASM on 11g R2 Grid

    Hi:
    Earlier added this issue alongwith Grid installation. Only Jorg replied to me but could not find a complete solution. So thought of starting a new thread.
    Wanted to know if any one of you have successfully created Oracle Database Manually on ASM on Oracle 11g R2 Grid.
    I have installed Oracle 11g R2 grid (grid user) and Oracle 11g R2 DB software succesfully (oracle user).
    Now trying to create a database manually on ASM as Oracle user.
    First I create an pfile in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
    then I started by db on nomount stage. when I create a spfile on to my ASM diskgroup I get
    I have created 2 diskgroups '+DGASMSPFILE' (ASM Spfile) and '+DGDBDATA' (for database)
    Grid is up and running.
    From Oracle user:
    Have created a sample initDBRAC.ora
    Now I want to create Oracle Database Global Spfile into '+DGASMSPFILE'
    export ORACLE_SID=DBRAC
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba

    ORA-17502:ksfdcre:4 failed to create file +DGASMSPFILE/spfileDBRAC.ora

    "Oracle user" should have privileges to access ASM diskgroup right? What is the permission set for /dev/sdc* (earlier it was root:oinstall I changed it to grid:oinstall even then no difference.

    Regards
    Dinesh

    Hi Sebastian:
    When I installed grid software, oracle db software and created oracle db manually things worked fine.
    When I restart the RAC environment I found the following issues:
    1) all the resources does not come up automatically, once i issue crs_start -all all the services comes up. (most of the resources related to node1 comes up but cluster resources related to node2 does not come up) crsctl check crs shows that things are online.
    2) wanted to recreate a database manually after restarting the RAC enviroment. To start of as usual tried to create a spfile in ASM disk "Create spfile='+DGDBSPFILE' from pfile'
    I get ORA-17502:ksfdcre:4 failed to create file +DGDBSPFILE'
    12547: TNS: lost contact
    looks like permission problem.
    The same command worked before restarting the RAC environment. Pls let me know if I am missing out anything.
    Is it because i am unable to access ASM instance.
    3) As you had mentioned tried to set the sbit by executing the following statement:
    $ /opt/grid/bin/setasmgidwrap o=/opt/oracle/product/11.2.0/db/bin/oracle
    should this be put into "rc" folder in linux so that it gets set everytime linux starts up. because once i restart the permission get changed.
    I should execute it from grid user to change the permission of 'oracle' binary in 'oracle user' right?
    Can you explain me why is this required (sbit).
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Dinesh

  • Create procedure statement Hangs in 11g database, doesn't hang in 10.2

    I have installed 11g on a windows workstation and created a new database. I then attempted to import a schema from a tried and tested 10.2 database, this hung.
    I pinpointed the cause of the hang to a create procedure sstatement within the import file.
    I removed the procedure from the 10.2 database, re-exported and imported sucessfully in to the 11g database minus the rogue prrocedure.
    I now have a create statement for the procedure thats causing the hangs, and this hangs when I try and run it - it runs fine against my 10.2 database?
    I can comment large chunks of the create procedure statment out so I get an anonymous block that runs, and pinpoint the hang down to the inclusion of the the line marked below
    (starting FOR UPDATE OF...........).
    I cant work out whats going on, I'm no programmer by the way!

    after doing further investigation i found that for 11g condition s.lockwait = l.kaddr not satisfied where as for 9i it's gives correct results
    here are the lockwait and kaddr values for 9i and 11g databases.
    for oracle 9i
    SQL> select lockwait from v$session where sid in (10,12);
    LOCKWAIT

    SQL> select kaddr from v$lock where sid in (10,12);
    KADDR
    67B4E088
    67B4E10C
    for oracle 11g
    SQL> select lockwait from v$session where sid in (70,134);
    LOCKWAIT
    070000002FA080D8
    SQL> select kaddr from v$lock where sid in (70,134);
    KADDR

    00000001108E3E58
    070000002FA6CB30

    please advise if there is any change for calculations for lockwait,kaddr for 11g.

    can you post your query with explain plan for both 9i version and 10g version.

    Whenever an ORA-600 error is raised a trace file is generated and an entry written to the alert.log with details of the trace file location. Starting with Oracle Database 11g Release 1, the diagnosability infrastructure was introduced which places the trace and core files into a location controlled by the DIAGNOSTIC_DEST initialization parameter when an incident, such as an ORA-600 is created. For earlier versions, the trace file will be written to either USER_DUMP_DEST (if the error was caught in a user process) or BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST (if the error was caught in a background process like PMON or SMON). The trace file contains vital information about what led to the error condition

    Thanks for your help. As suggested I have checked the trace file to search and found the below info. I suppose it is some kind of lock but not sure about it. Please let me know if the following makes sense:

  • What should i do with an Oracle 11g Database, MySQL database and a dump file.

    I just joining to a new work field, almost about a database and i know "NOTHING" about this field.
    My company has a system that running by Oracle Database, the problem is that Oracle Database will cost a lot of money when my company expands.
    So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
    Of course i cant try to convert it in the main Database, so i create one Oracle 11g Database on my LocalHost, and it already actived in " Localhost:1158 " etc.
    I have another Sever test that already set up MySQL database, and a dump file from the system.
    So I want to ask these 2 questions :
    1. How to create an new Oracle Database from that dump file ?
    2. Is it alright if i use tool to convert Oracle Database into MySql, or i should do it manually ?
    Thanks alot.

    I predict that converting to MySQL will cost your company more as it expands. As you expand managing contention becomes more important - Oracle does this for you. I do not think MySQL does, so you'll have to write more code to deal with this, costing the company money. A big part of making application scalable and reliable is to use stored procedures, how good are MySQL's compared to PL/SQL's. What other features are there that MySQL has that will benefit your company that Oracle doesn't. What do you need to think about as your company expands that need to be taken care of in the database. I would have thought a migration from MySQL to Oracle would be more common to deal with expansion.
    As you know "NOTHING" you need to think about what each database can give you for the next 10 years to cope with you businesses potential requirements, and extimate how much it will cost to implement these requirements, then make the decision
