How can I suggest a new feature in Oracle?
Imagine a table of service requests to be processed, where a column named STATUS can be: 'N': New, 'C': Canceled or 'P': Processed. This will result in a biased distribution where 'P' will represent more than 99% of rows.
I know that Oracle accept indexes created using functions and I can create an index on decode(STATUS,'P',null,STATUS) to make index small. But it will not help a query on STATUS = 'N' condition.
I would like to create a conditional index like:
create index idx01 on service_requests (status) where status <> 'P';
In this example, only status 'N' and 'C' will be indexed resulting in a very small index that can resolve filters like STATUS = 'N'.
Or this:
create index idx01 on some_tables (column1 including null values); to resolve COLUMN1 is NULL
Is there a way to suggest new features like this?
A new feature isn't needed. Oracle provides the equivalent of that 'conditional index' by allowing you to create, and index, VIRTUAL columns.
This code uses a VIRTUAL column and then creates an index on it.

As of now there is no good, direct link for feedback on iTunes itself. Writing Apple might be the best option, with the website feedback page perhaps the next best.

Any hints on how to suggest a new tower?
We moved to a new subdivision (Denver suburb) and get at most 1-2 bars (of 5). I work one mile closer to "civilization", surrounded by a large 15 year old subdivision, and still 1-2 bars. Incomplete, dropped calls, even if I run outside. Lived with it for 5 months, then it got worse and I finally complained; they said we're on the edge of service and a tower was down, but it has never improved. Next call they said they'd send a truck out to measure service and let me know; never happened. Next call they tried to sell me a $250 extender, then tier 2 said they'd give it to us and keep me informed; never happened. We got better reception recently in the middle of Kansas, not a sign of man in sight.
Neighbors and coworkers agree but won't call Verizon. My next move is to canvas the area with a petition. My place of work has offered land for a Verizon tower; no response. Looks like we'll have to get a house phone (can't call police/fire in an emergency), but that doesn't solve the problem at work.

Have tried to work with Verizon for two months, nada (see also my other post, "Someone posing as a Verizon rep?"). Rep says she'll call at specific time on my work land line, doesn't happen (twice). Another rep says extenders are in stock and she'll remind the tech to send me one; nothing. Eight times they have said they would do something and don't.
Now I'm told we won't be receiving an extender as promised (but they won't admit it was a lie). Does it say in their contract "Our service can be inadequate in populated areas; you will need to spend an additional $250 to use your phone."? Verizon constantly brags that their coverage is vastly superior to their competition (you've all seen their maps on TV), but their final answer to me: "You need to switch to another carrier for good service.".
I just took these pictures at work, (one mile closer to "civilization", a 15 year old neighborhood), 1 bar territory outside. I can't reliably make/receive phone calls at work (I don't have an office/phone) or home - maybe 1 of 20 calls miraculously connects and stays connected. Many incoming calls never even ring (I find out later). I get 5 bars elsewhere.
I'm done with Verizon. The only things I can think of doing: canvassing the neighborhood as mentioned, sharing these photos with their competition, reporting Verizon to the BBB, and paying for a land line at home.

Question regarding suggestion of new features

I'm probably going to touch on a sensitive topic, but please hear me out. In working with some legacy systems and I have the need to deal with unsigned values. Needless to say this is difficult to do in Java. There are some work around solutions, but they are hardly ideal. I would like to suggest this feature be added to the language. The question I have is how do I go about suggesting a new feature and get the ball rolling? Is it as simple as forking and developing it all yourself hoping it gets merged in or does it mean you have to go through the JCP?

also, there might be another good reason beyond the fact that they arent really necessary:
the java opcodes were made to fit into a byte.
as it is now, a lot of those opcodes are used
for primitive conversions and every permutation of primitive arithmetic.
if they added 4 more primitives to the existing 6...Couldn't that statement apply to any language addition? "I'm sorry I shouldn't do it because I've only got a byte and need to save it for more useful stuff."

Current Firefox versions have a feature called tear-off tabs.<br />
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.<br />
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

With the offering from Adobe, it was possible to have a free account with $15/month of service offered.
It was really useful to developp applications, or to make demos applications for clients, and then paying when the application takes off only.

No, I mean the page you see whenever you open up a new tab, i.e. the "NEW TAB" feature, that shows most visited/recently visited pages. This is not bookmarks, favorites, or recently opened.

Suggestions for new features and improvements for Garageband

I posted this to iCompositions but don't know who would be exposed to it as far as Apple goes. Just thought I would list a sort of wish list for GB that would make a huge difference for me.
Most are just basic interface improvements and changes. Some you may already be able to do and I'm unaware.
1. A click track option would be nice.
2. A space to write production notes as in guitar used and pickup used.
3. A Telecaster and Strat icon for the track icons.
4. When you duplicate a track it also duplicates the region(s) of the track.
5. An edit (highlight) button on a region to mark where editing needs to happen. This could be saved for future reference and quick navigation to.
6. More control over the loop button on tracks. If you want to move it to another section it ***** to get at both ends and drag it to where it needs to be.
7. Audio Interface volume booster. I don't get the same input from my M-Audio Ozone as I do via input of my guitar through a direct box. Not even close. Maybe it's my interface?
8. More than one effect(s) on the same track.

First of all, if you want Apple to listen to your suggestions, you better use the feedback forms, since this is a user forum and is very rarely visited by Apple employees.
As for your list: People in this forum have put together a huge wishlist which somehow differs from yours (see this thread, for example). Top of the list are midi export, variable tempo and volume and effect automation.
As for your no.8:
8. More than one effect(s) on the same track.
You can have up to 4 effects on each track (plus the not very effective compression slider), 2 of them are restricted to echo and reverb.

Suggestions for new features

I don't know, if this forum is monitored by the development staff, but I'll post my suggestions here in case they do.
I would be nice to have optional ballon-tips when a new song is played.
I would also be nice, to have some icons in the context menu of the taskbar-icon for play, next song, previous song.

well i would very much like to see a check box in the edit info that allows you to add a file from a podcast into your main music library in your ipod. i find it rather frustrating to see that i have 2 seprate file librarys now.

I am sure two features commonly available in dj programs like Traktor and Mega Seg would make iTunes even more usable.
#1 Variable tempo and pitch controllers.
#2 A automatic beat counter
I run a dance school/nightclub and except for these features I would use iTunes exclusively for teaching annd djing

Suggestion for new features

1. Would it be possible to have the ability to cancel an outgoing message after pressing the send button. For instance, before the bar fully loads thru and the message is sent? Regular cell phones are available to do that, why not the iPhone?
2. For e-mails, I think the feature to add a request for "Read receipt" and/or "Delivery receipt" would be great, similar to a feature available from using Microsoft Outlook.
Hope to hear feedback from anyone, maybe get the attention of Apple staff.

Hi all:
I hope ORACLE has such a new feature, to reduce the client codes. We usually do that: Inserting a record to a table, if some columns have existed, then update it, else insert this new record. I assume this statement is:
INSERT INTO MYTABLE (A,B,C) VALUES (1, 2, 3) UPDATE EXISTS (A, B)
It's mean that if A and B is duplicated (exists a row that A=1 and B=2), then UPDATE column C value of these rows to 3 implicitly.

You can create and use condition indices. You can use these indices to display, change and create condition records with reference. This transaction can include condition records with several condition types and tables. For example, you can use a condition index if you want to see all condition records that apply to a particular product regardless of whether the records are prices or discounts. In this case, you can use one of the standard condition indexes. Or you may want to see a list of condition records that contain a particular sales deal and a material from a user-specified list of products. To display this information, you can create your own condition index.
Creating a condition index is similar to creating a condition table. In Customizing for Sales, you select the combination of fields that you want in the index key. The system automatically proposes a list of permitted fields to choose from. The fields you specify for the key can have a maximum combined length of 100 characters.
The activation function displays a list of all available condition indexes and indicates which are active. The system can use a condition index only when it is activated. Before you can use the indexes that are delivered in the standard version, you must first activate them in Customizing for Sales. Some indices are activated automatically during generation. In addition, you must specify one of the following index updating requirements for each condition index:
Requirement 1: The index is updated when the user provides data for all fields in the index
Requirement 2: The index is updated when the user provides data for at least the first index field

Creation of condition index

I created a condition table with one field "KUNRE - Bill-to party" to use as a condition index.
When I tried to access the table via path
IMG > SD > Basic functions > Pricing > Maintain condition index > Maintain condition tables for index
I am getting an error "Table F 904 not Available - Message # VK016"
Can you help in creating a condition index with example.

How do I add new photos to my external back up without duplicating the entire library?

My iPhoto libraries are a complete mess. I can't be the only person who:
a) wants a number of libraries for different types of image (digital art, holiday snaps, etc)
b) wants to keep the bulk of his library on an external drive, to free up space on my main hard drive.
One problem is that iPhoto does not show things clearly. It does not say:
a) which hard drive the currently displayed iPhoto library is in
b) which iPhoto library is currently open (at the top it just says iPhoto instead of giving a directory).
Another problem is that when I import photos from my iPhone or camera, they automatically go into the iPhoto libaray on my main hard drive; I don't seem to be asked: "To which iPhoto library do you want to import these photos?"
On top of that, whilst in some cases a pop-up asks if you really do want to add a duplicate image to a certain location, I haven't found a simple way when doing back ups to ONLY ADD NEW IMAGES to an existing library ('Apply to all' etc.)
As a result, I have loads of duplicates in different libraries, with crazy titles like: "Mostly family photos up to Sept 2010" or "Digital images to June 2012, many duplicates."
A friend recommended iPhoto Library Manager but I don't find that well laid out and haven't used it.
As I've also had difficulty upgrading my iPhoto libraries, I've started saving my photos in a regular folder (not iPhoto), with View set to large icons. I find that easier to organise.
So....Can anyone advise on a simple clear way of organising my photos and adding new ones in to the appropriate folder?

Correct - it always uses the last selected library - If you use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - to manage your libraries you do have a display showing whaih=ch library you are using
And with iPhoto '11 you can switch libraries from the file menu

Correct IF you do not have a good plan for managing multiple libraries and IF you do not folow it - iPhoto is a basic program designed for the mass market and knows only about the current library - it has no idea about any otehr libraries - it is far better to have only one library - but if you choose to have multiple libraries tehn you must ahve a good plan for managing them and yo must follow yoru plan - if you do not then it will not work wisince what you doing is not a feature of iPhoto

Well your friend made a good suggestion and it is a great product for manageing multiple libraries - but if you do not like it then you should not use it

Then the question arises "why are you using iPhoto at all?" It does not work like you want, you prefer using teh finder to organize your photos and you have created a mess by trying to use iPhoto in ways it was not designed to be used - your best choice is to not use iPhotoa and do it your self the way you prefer

Yes - use one library and learn how to use iPhoto (BTW in iPhoto folders do not hold photos - they only hold albums and other folders) - the solution is to have one library with multiple backups and to organize using albums, folders, Keywords and folders in the single iphoto library
Otherwise you need a different program and different workflow - what you have is not working and is almost impossible to make work - either use iPhoto the way it is designed or use a program that is designed like you want
