Creating a Flash Template

Hi All
I am trying to find a way to create a set of graphics/movieclips which make up an interface for a project I am doing. The interface will house educational content and I would like to have the interface templated in one file (or library) which can be updated globally. That is to say that once I update the colour of a templated movieclip, all of my movies will update to reflect the change.
I know you can have shared libraries but they don't seem to update. I am looking for something that will update all my movies at the click of a button. Very similar to a Dreamweaver template if that is familiar.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Regards
Mat

Thank you all for your tips. Yes all of the 20 pages will be each a different flash file with this same movie in it.
To Ross: Unfortunately I have not yet learned XML. So I don't know how to do that.
To doghouseJim: This sounds good. I think I know what you mean, but I don't exactly know how to do it. But I will try this out tomorrow and also check out your link. Thanks

    I want to create a video template with a video category. How
    to create a new folder/category?
    And when I "saved as", do I find it in the drop-down..
    Than, I later wanted to delete it. How can I do this? I went
    into the folder on HD, but when I deleted it here, it doesn't go
    away in drop-down??

    oh - i should clarify - sounds like you deleted from user
    folder - if you want to delete globally
    (for all users), find the teplates folder in your Program
    Files folder where flash is installed.
    Tip of the day: create a shortcut to folders like this and
    others you may open periodically (like
    Commands, Common Libraries, etc)

  • CAN YOU USE A FLASH TEMPLATE IN IWEB?

    I have recently created my website using iWeb....albeit with much help from this forum...and am very pleased with the results.
    I would like to, however, have my site open with a Flash introduction. I have seen many affordable Flash Templates for sale on the web and am wondering it any of these would successfully work with iWeb. If so:
    1. What specs would I need to look for?
    2. Does anyone know of a site that sells iWeb compatible Flash intros?
    Thanks for all of your answers to my previous posts and hopefully this one as well.

    Sandie,
    Yes I have used Keynote as an intro and I once used it in swf format. I ended up liking the QT better.
    Here is the intro:
    http://web.mac.com/abenningfield/iWeb/CameraObscura/Camera%20Obscura%20Intro.htm l
    As an example...here is another I created in Keynote:
    http://web.mac.com/abenningfield/iWeb/ArchivalGenealogyVault/Archival%20Genealog y%20Vault%20Intro.html
    But as far as Adobe Flash goes.....I don't have the pro version (I have Basic) and I got a fully functional demo for 30days. Yeah it did cost about 400 bucks after the 30 day trial. Yikes.
    On the right side of this page is a third party flash file that I bought for a dollar. I used the free demo of Flash and put it on my site. After you format the flash file you want.....you don't need to keep Flash unless you want it (I did).

    But Keynote is great...and yes Kirk is right....wait for the new version.

  • Problems with flash template

    Hello,
    I am trying to use a flash template to create a timeline,
    However, I am a new user and having a few issues. The Link to the
    Fla i am working with is below. For some reason, when you click on
    the first button the first time, it references "timeline 1 movie" a
    second click on that same button will take you to "timeline 2
    movie" on the second button, it switches between "timeline 2 movie"
    and "timeline 3 movie" on alternate clicks. Any idea what I could
    change so that the first button only takes you to "timeline 1
    movie" and button 2 takes you too "timeline 2 movie" and so forth?
    Any advice would be great appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ryan
    http://www4.wittenberg.edu/student%20webdev/Ryan/admission/working2.fla

    Go to your first button, look in the Actions panel for the
    on(release) line of code and change it from gotoAndPlay to
    gotoAndStop, i.e.,
    on (release) {
    _root.gotoAndStop("timeline1");
    Now it will stay at your timeline frame instead of
    automatically playing to the next one. If this is what you want, do
    the same for all the other buttons. (Nice template--I think I'll
    adapt the idea to something of my own someday. My Life in Pix or
    something.)

  • Editing Flash Template

    Hello,
    I recently bought a flash template. I have edited all the
    information that came with it to suit. However now I need to create
    new pages, and get them to slide in (like the main pages do) when I
    click on the 'Click here for more info" button. How can I create
    and get these pages to slide in as the main menu ones do?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks, Mike

    Mike,
    I am absolutely no expert in this, but I did the same thing
    that you did and found that it many cases it was easier to create
    completely new movies/animations etc than to try to edit the ones
    that are there, unless the changes you want are simple. Assuming
    that what you want to change is another FLA file I would first save
    all the original files in a separate folder, then save them with
    new file names and start experimenting. I found in many cases the
    files were pretty complicated and making any changes screwed up the
    animations but you can use the originals as guides to determine how
    they put the whole thing together. You can often use Fireworks or
    Photoshop to create new backgrounds as needed.
    This is probably not much help.

  • Alternative Content - html version of my flash template

    Can someone please direct me to a good tutorial or explain the steps for creating a Flash website with an alternative html version.  Is it as simple as creating two sites with a link to the html version or is there something special I can do to avoid duplicate content as far as SEO? I'm working with a purchased Flash template and would like to know the simplest way to do this.  Thanking you in advance.

    Hm, I assume you mean Camtasia Studio 8?
    Check the chart on the page you linked. You'll see that the version you have installed is in fact the latest version for Chrome. They haven't updated it beyond that. Each browser engine has its own latest version of flash. IE and Mozilla are 11.4.402.287.
    Aside that, there's no reason Camtasia should be requiring you to have that version of flash. Make sure when you're publishing your content that you don't check off any options to "require the user to have the latest version of Flash". You should also (if possible in your project) try to target MP4/HTML5. Check any HTML being generated with it (hopefully using SWFObject) and check for the version checking code. There is absolutely nothing Camtasia needs to require the latest version to do. I've been using Camtasia (TechSmith codec mostly) for screen recording since version 2.

  • Drag and drop flash template in Captivate

    Hi,
    I'm having troubles inserting drag and drop exercises, generated through a Flash template, into Captivate as a swf. They sometimes work but the result is very instable. Here are two examples with the exact swf : one works fine and the other one doesn't display the buttons. The only difference is a blank slide in the second one...
    Has anyone tried this before have any idea?

    Michael
    Thanks for taking the time to check out the files.
    Here's the problem : example 1 shows OK, the buttons are visible and active. These two top buttons (circled in red) are from the embedded swf file, whereas the third one in the bottom was created in Captivate. They have the same look and feel sothat users won't notice the difference.
    Now, in example 2, these buttons from the swf file don't show. The Captivate button works fine.
    The two swf files are basically clones, nothing has been altered exept for sounds and images. The code is from the Test template that comes with Flash. They work perfectly fine while played alone, but have this behavior where embedded in Captivate.
    I have the exact same problem whatever the way I open them (Flash player, Firefox or IE 7), and my Flash player is up to date. Both the swf and the cp are AS 2.

  • Flash templates for iweb

    are there any templates where we can insert flash into an existing iweb site?

    I just finished dealing with this battle. First the code that was provided to you from Carson (first reply) is crucial to load your flash movie into your website. Follow his instructions and you will easily be able to add flash movies.
    Now for creating the content. There is a couple of options. I used iWorks '08 Keynote to create a flash introduction. Basically you can create a slide show with animations and then convert it to Quicktime. You can either use the Quicktime file as a movie insert or convert the Quicktime to a flash file. Please note that the export to flash feature within Keynote will remove alot of your slide transitions and animations. Thus, if you want flash you should export it to Quicktime to keep all transitions and animations. Then you can use Adobe Flash C3 to convert it to flash or any other flash converter software (such as the products sold from the link posted above).
    If you want to get a little flashier there is a software called The Ad Creator (http://www.flashadcreator.com/)
    This software has about a 100 templates for flash introductions. It is meant for companies but you can easily adapt it to your personal website by adding photos and changing captions. I just bought it but have not done anything yet on my website.
    You can view a sample introduction made from Keynote and then converted to flash on my website.

  • BEST Tutorial guides to follow when learning to make Flash Templates

    I'm trying so hard to try and find either videos or books or
    anything on learning to make Flash Website templates, but I'm
    having trouble coming up with REALLY GOOD walk throughs as to
    learning to use and create interactive flash website templates.
    Does anyone here know of the best resources to go to or what
    I could buy that would REALLY help my knowledge on the flash
    program. Who here didn't know anything about Flash, and then what
    did you learn to help you learn the program.
    Again, I want to create flash website templates, but I don't
    know what guides or tutorials to follow when learning, so could
    someone please please direct me to the best place, thanks.

    Oh, thanks for the compliment.
    But i still feel like a beginner. Flash is a fantastic
    program and its possibilities are mind-boggling.
    Maybe 2 or 3 years ive been playing around with flash. Not
    enough as i would like to however. I havent "trained" or anything
    though. I did buy a couple of books but, to be honest they were a
    waste of money. Everything you need is to be found on the web.
    My template? Well, i just made a sample site and decided to
    turn it into a template. Changing the text to xml text and trying
    to make life easy for anyone who wanted to buy it. Im just testing
    the water and these are early days.
    Funnily enough I remember a couple of years back seeing one
    of the templates on templatemonster and thinking "Wow! i wanna do
    that!". But i quickly realised what a task that was and just
    plodded along making sites.
    I couldnt even begin to explain how to make the site though,
    it would be like writing a book. Believe me id love to able to tell
    you exactly how to acomplish your task.
    Like ive said earlier, maybe your best bet is to get hold of
    a free flash template, just a simple one, and open it up and have a
    poke around.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • My edits to a flash template will not show up on the web!

    Hello all.... I am editing a flash template that I have
    downloaded. I have read up on how this is done and here is my
    process. I open the .fla file in Macromedia Flash 8, I make some
    small changes to some of the text, and then at this point I have
    tried a few things... I have clicked the "Done" button, at which
    point it exports the file to .swf...... I have clicked file >
    publish settings > publish...... and I have clicked file >
    export > export movie...... no matter what I do when I go back
    into dreamweaver and access the updated files, I can see my
    changes. THEY ARE THERE. however when I upload them to my website
    and access the page on the web.... the original template shows up.
    It is as if nothing was ever changed.... HELP PLEASE I'm going
    insane!

    Are you positive that you've also uploaded the updated HTML
    that reflects the new SWF? Have you cleared your cache in your
    browser?

  • I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

    I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

    The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
    You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
    You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
    Menu > Format > Import Styles
    The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

  • In Flex 3 how to Stop and Replay .swf animation created in Flash

    Hi
    I have an animation file that is created in Flash (I think
    CS3). In Flex if I import it inside a SWFLoader or if I import it
    as an Image. It plays once and stops. Then I can not replay it. I
    also can not pause it when its playing.
    I have tried few things based on help and code available in
    the Web to of no help. I have tried to convert the swfLoader
    instance to a movie clip like so to stop
    var c:MovieClip = swfLoaderHeaddress1.content as MovieClip;
    c.stop();
    <mx:SWFLoader x="53" y="116" width="206" height="255.3"
    visible="true"
    source="assets/animations/curatorial/ZoomHeadress_2nd.swf"
    id="swfLoaderHeaddress1"/>
    It does not work.
    I have not created the .swf animation, I am not sure how it
    is done. I belive it may not be using any ActionScript as I know
    the artist who created it does not know ActionScript. Does
    something need to be done inside the Flash to support the stop and
    play? Or is there a way to restart/replay stop a .swf animation in
    Flex 3 no matter how (and whether or not its developed using
    ActionScript) its developed in Flash?

    One way is she has to add some AS code to the animation, or
    you can do it yourself.
    In swf there must be something like this:
    var connReciever:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    connReciever.client = this;
    connReciever.connect("fromFlexToSWF");
    function myFunction(parameter:SomeClass):void {...}
    And in Flex:
    var connSender:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    connSender.send("fromFlexToSWF", "myFunction", [..args]);
    The other way: in case with just play/stop there is a way to
    resolve this by using that Flex Component Kit (or maybe "Flex Skin
    Design Extension", i do not remember), it is something like she
    just adding labels to animation frames then she exports it with
    Flex Kit and then you can work with it like with an object with
    "states".

  • Emailing Invite created in Flash doesn't work

    I created a flash invite for a client and cannot get it to deliver correctly through email. I've tried everything that I have found here and it won't show up in some of the emails that I have tested. (mine is the only one that works). I then tried exporting the flash to a gif but the quality is really poor. Any way to correct that?? I can't believe that this so complicated. Is there a piece of code that I am missing? Can this even be done successfully? The last animated invite I did was in photoshop and was nearly as complicated as this one and didn't want to mess with it.
    Help. Client is getting anxious, and if I have to rebuild in Photoshop I need to get started.

    What I Learned...
    It seems there is no simple way to do this. So this is what I did, I exported the swf as an animated gif. It wasn't great but it worked in "most" emails but not all. Because of the that we went with a traditional, "click here" to view your invitation email. We considered using constant contact or a similar program that would embed the gif, but the client didn't want to have to enter all the email addresses. I decided I didn't want to spent the time to rebuild or use the png files in Photoshop.
    This isn't something I will be recommending to future projects. It's just to dicey making sure that it works in every email format.
