Creating a network bridge from ethernet to wifi for xbox

Hey guys, I'm trying to create a network bridge from eth0(ethernet port) to ra0(wifi) in an attempt to avoid buying a wireless adapter for my new Xbox 360 I got this Christmas. With Windows, it looks incredibly simple(just going into network settings and right clicking basically) but I don't want to boot into windows every time I want to use live... I have searched around the net but I always get DNS errors whenever I play with iptables, does anyone have a good way to get this to run?

Any chance you guys are going to finish answering it? Since Arch is the do-it-yourself distro, can we get a group of people together who want to make a package or go "fix" the NetworkManager source code to include support for autoconfiguration of bridges?
Windows calls them bridges now, just for your information. In windows you select or highlight both network interface devices at the same time, right click on either one, and select "Bridge Connections". This is incredibly easy for the user, and it is just as powerful as that mess of instructions you gave up there.
scripts are OK, but they should never be the final solution to a problem. Remember it helps if more people don't have to know everything about an operating system. If people can avoid the complexity of Linux, they will be happier, more productive, and will enjoy contributing software to Linux or telling their friends about Linux.
If it requires this "splint" scripting that doesn't work 100% of the time, Linux is going to die a very grisly death. I know more and more people nowadays who know to Bridge the connections in Windows to get internet on their xbox 360s. I can't convince any of them that Linux is better because they ignore the rest of Linux and complain about this one missing feature. Indeed even I can't use Linux to bridge my laptop's connections for use with my desktop or another computer that needs to download 3rd party wireless drivers from the internet.
I am a huge proponent of Linux, but to be honest, I notice that a bunch of work still needs to be done. I realize the market and business forces are set against Linux right now, but if everyone would stop making new distros and instead fix the packages that go into the existing ones, we could have Linux replace Windows within 5 years.
If you don't like a distro, go work for the company and help them improve it. Making your own distro is not going to help solve the watered-down developer population.
Networking is something that is VERY important to people. NetworkManager was a great success and boon to everyday Linux usage. It needs a bit of polishing; that is all.

  • Problem in Internet Sharing from Ethernet to wifi

Whenever i go to Preferences > Sharing >  Click Internet Sharing > From Ethernet > to wifi and hit start. It actually creates my wifi access point but the problem is that i lose my internet connection from both, my mac from which the connection is being shared and my cellphone which is connected to it. I can not identify what is the problem, but i have tried it many times with or without the WPA2 personal key. Even after stopping the internet sharing, i have to plug out and then in my ethernet cable in order to connect to internet.
This problem was also on OS X mavericks with me last year, but it resolved automatically, i don't know how. But since when i have upgraded to yosemite, i can't make my hotspot connection working . Suggest any quick and effective way please.

    Same problem over here...
Additionally: if I unplug Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter and plug it in again while Internet Sharing is still activated, the internet via ethernet works, but breaks down again about a minute later...

  • Can I create a network object from CIDR format or do I need to use IP - netmask?

Have a cisco ASA running ASA V 8.3
Wondering what the correct syntax is or even if it is possible to create a network object from a list of IP's in CIDR format?
    Typically just do this:
    Create network-object
    object-group network name
    network-object 1.2.3.0 255.255.255.0
    Would like to do this:
    network-object 1.2.3.0/24
    thanks!

    Hi,
As far as I know the ASA does not support entering a network/subnet mask in such format in any of its configurations.

  • Creating a Network Straight from the Desktop (No Router)

I have created a network straight from the desktop without a router with no protection/security key. It's on channel 11 (automatic). My internet on the desktop is working and when I connect to the network wirelessly with a PC, it connects & obtains the IP address without any issues. When I open my browser on the laptop, page cannot be displayed. I'm using Windows XP on a brand new laptop. Why can't this be simple?

  • Creating an xml file from a playlist - message for iTunes staff

When I created an xml file from a playlist I noticed that in the xml file the track name was merged with the artist name in this manner "I want you - Bob Dylan".
That was hardly a problem as I could easily correct this in the FileMaker Pro environment.
But subsequently I found out, that within iTunes the track name was similarly changed to the same format. Apparently this happened when iTunes created the xml file and inadvertently also changed the track name within iTunes.
It can easily be corrected by entering File/Info, but I had over 10.000 songs in that list and it will take a lot of time. I have to do this, as I created earlier for each song a file path in FileMaker Pro, which are unrecognizable now.
Could you please correct the xml file creating procedure?

I must confess that I can't reproduce this result myself anymore.
I created the xml file in iTunes via File/Library/Export Playlist/xml structure (I translate the Dutch terms loosely) and subsequently I imported the xml file into a Filemaker Pro via File/Import/xml.
The xsl style sheet looks ok.
It looks like a freak of nature.
Still I have the evidence in my iTunes playlist, where I have another 9000 clicks to go to repair the damage.
Let's forget about it, until it happens again.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Network problems are preventing connection to Exchange when changing from Ethernet to Wifi

I have a user that connects to Exchange fine while their computer is docked and connected to the LAN by Ethernet, but once they undock they receive the error "Cannot open item. Network problems are preventing connection to Exchange server." They
are connected to the internal company Wi-Fi and nothing changes about their computer's status other than changing from being on the wired network to wireless.

    Hi,
What's your Outlook version and Exchange version? Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010/2013? Please check your Wifi settings and make sure your Wifi password is correct.
In Outlook, please click File > Account Settings > Security and
make sure the Encrypt data between Microsoft

  • Creating Wireless Network via existing Ethernet Network

    Hello
I have a problem with setting up my network in my new place, where internet was already available via existing Ethernet network. I tired to solve the problem with the Designing Networks with Airport but I think my case is not described there. First of all let me describe how the Ethernet works. Network is setup by a Modem/router device that was supplied from the ISP, it is connected to the switch that divides the service over 4 different apartments, since it is a quite good connection there is no bandwidth problem, but the ISP device assigns only 5 IP addresses that can get internet service, everything above 5th IP is just an IP without Internet. From my basic knowledge I think that i need at least 4 IP to cover my needs. Time Capsule, Mac book, iTouch and my xbox. IF i set up my TC into a bridge mode it all works, but i am taking to much internet IP's and my neighbors are stuck with the IP's that don't allow them to connect to internet. What I need to know is a detailed instruction how to use one IP address from the 5 available, and using time capsule provide local IP to all of my devices at home so the rest of IPs generated by the ISP device will not be assigned to me.
I tired to set up the time capsule to option Share a public IP address, or static IP's option, but in both cases my devices fail to connect to internet, however they do have assigned IP's by the TC. I have a strange feeling there is a small detail I am missing that keeps me from a successful set up, but of course I might be wrong, because I am relatively new in Mac community and have only basic knowledge in network stuff.
I am sure that I was not the only one that has this problem so if there is another topic about this subject, which I have failed to find, I would appreciate a link. Thanks for help in advance, if any other info is required please don't hesitate to ask, hopefully I can solve my problem with Your help very soon.
    Regards

+my Xobox fails to connect to xbox live claiming that I have NAT set as moderate (the NAT map porting is enabled) and I dont know what to do about that. I have googled a bit and there are some suggestions that my TC puts additional layer of NAT on top of my ISP modem/router and that's why it is confused.+
As William has pointed out, in your particular setup, there may be no way around the double layer of NAT. The Time Capsule must be set to "Share a single IP address" if you want to connect multiple devices.
Might be worth confirming that you really do have the additional NAT layer on your network.
Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Network Utility
    Click on the Traceroute tab
Enter an address like "www.mac.com" (without the quotation marks) in the box
    Click Trace
Let the trace run for a minute or two and then click Stop
Look at Line 2 only in the log.
If you see a 192.168 or 10.x.x.x address in this line, you have the additional NAT layer on your network.
If that's the case, I'm afraid that the only way to eliminate the NAT service on the Time Capsule is to place it in "bridge" mode. But, I understand that you have limited IP addresses to work with there.
Any way to have more IP addresses authorized for that location? That would appear to be the only solution if you want the Xbox to connect to Xbox live.

  • How do i create a printers spread from a design spread for a booklet?

I'm new to InDesign (taking a Page Layout class) so I'm not to good with it yet. I created a Designer Spread for an 8 page booklet for this class and I have no idea how to switch around each page so that it can be a 2 up sattle stitch booklet. I can't use the "Print Booklet Option" because it organizes my pages in a wierd way...any help ASAP would be amazing...
    Thanks
ps I attached 2 screen shots. 1 of my current designer spread and one of the printer spread that I'm supposed to use to print it out.

You can creat a new file that is NOT facing pages and each page is twice as wide. You can place the pages of your original file or a PDF exported from it in the pattern you need for imposition, but it's a big pain and not really worth the effort. There are scripts and plugins that can impose the file for you if you don't want to use Print Booklet. IDImposer is an inexpensive plugin for InDesign that does true impostion inside ID, and until the end of the year it is being offered for free by the developer.

  • Bridging from wireless iBook connection to xbox 360

I was wondering if anyone might have any advice for me.
I am currently trying to allow my xbox 360 to share my iBook's wireless by bridging it through the iBook's ethernet jack.
When running the xbox live set up I have been able to get the IP address confirmed, the DNS as well, however the MTU just fails.
My iBook is set at 1500, the minimum the xbox wants is 1364, my wireless router is set at 1500. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Creating Network Bridge in Windows 7 on wired port causes cable unplugged

So I created a Microsoft Loopback interface and tried to create a Network Bridge in Windows 7 with the wired Ethernet port on my E7440 laptop.  But once the bridge is created and the interfaces added, the Ethernet port says 'cable unplugged'.  If I take the interface out of the bridge, it sits there for quite a while before it says it is active again.
I'm pretty sure I have been able to do this on other PCs.  Is there something new here or a bug with this model?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
I don't know of anything specific to the E7440 that would cause that problem.  I would think any security software, or hardware, would block pings to the loopback address, not report it as cable unplugged.  I just wonder if there is something with the driver that is causing it?  (Since it sounds like without the loopback that the NIC is functioning correctly).
The E7440 comes with Intel AMT for remote maintenance, but I wouldn't think it would block what you're trying to do.  And even if it did, then it still shouldn't give that media unplugged message.
To be honest, these forums aren't the best place to get answers to this sort of question.  We try to do best possible support but this might be an issue where you need to contact Dell's Tech Support and speak to the software agents who are more experienced in advanced software support.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help to you.

  • [Solved] How to create a ntework bridge device?

    Hi!
I'm trying to create a network bridge device for using it with KVM.
Therefore I installed netctl and bridge-utils.
I have two network interfaces in my computer. net0 and net1.
net0 is connected to a network switch and gets its address via DHCP.
    net1 is disconnected.
My aim was to create a new device, br0, that uses net0 to get an IP address from the DHCP server of my network.
So I created the following configuration:
    [mine@intelmine ~]$ cat /etc/netctl/bridgekvm
    Description="Bridge for KVM"
    Interface=br0
    Connection=bridge
    BindsToInterfaces=(net0)
    IP=no
    ## sets forward delay time
    FwdDelay=0
    ## sets max age of hello message
    #MaxAge=10
When I start this configuration with the command
    systemctl start netctl@bridgekvm
    The br0 interface appears:
    [root@intelmine ~]# ifconfig
    br0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet6 fe80::225:22ff:fe67:d6c0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x20<link>

The strange thing is, that the br0 device gets the same MAC address as the net0 device.
Right after activating the netctl profile, I cannot ping any host on the network anymore.
When stopping the netctl profile both devices, net0 and br0 disappear:
    [root@intelmine ~]# systemctl stop netctl@bridgekvm
    [root@intelmine ~]# ifconfig

What is going on here? How can I simply create a bridge device for a KVM host?

    Thanks for the clarification, teekay!
I was just confused because of the behaviour of virtualbox. There you can also set bridged network to the guests, but you don't need to change anything on the host config.
Now I understand that I just need to disable the interface in the Network Manager, create the bridge device with the wished IP config for the host and tell the guest to use that bridge interface. The guest then gets a new interface with a new MAC and IP config but connected to the bridge interface.
Now everything works for me. Thanks a lot for your help!

  • An unexpected error occurred while configuring the Network Bridge

Windows XP Pro SP2, a new TP61 6460 6WG, all Win updates, all Lenovo updates.
Everything works fine except... when I'm trying to create a network bridge I always get the following: An unexpected error occurred while configuring the Network Bridge.
This is not the situation described in Microsoft's Knowledge Base KB309640 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309640/en-us). I have no ICS, no ICF.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem and was really frustrated. I was about to pull my hairs out but then i was finally able to solve it. The solution is deleting some files of WMI repository. The complete details can be found on my blog http://cheatppc.blogspot.com/2008/07/unexpected-error-has-occured-while.html
    Hope this solves the problem.

    1. Create s structure with the fields that you need from the 4 tables . Activate.
    2. Goto SE 80 Select The Function Group , Copy , Select the Function module
" RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE " and Give a New name starting With
    Y or Z .
    3. SE37 ->Your Function module name -> Change , In table tab give your structure
name by deleting the associated type given in " XXXX " .
    4. Now select source code and Do the coding . Give Data source name in Coding .
In your case you have to take data from more that 1 table .
    5. Activate the Function Group .
    6. In RSO2 Create the Data source , Give the Function Module Name , And Save.
    7. RSA3 -> Give data source name and Check for the Records .
Creation of custom datasource. (Using function module)
    .Create a function group .
    . Structure ZTXXXX
Create function module (i.e. ZTESTXXX) .
. Create the data source using transaction (RSO2).
. If structure exists for the table parameter of your function module then ok else create a structure for the table parameter ‘        ’.
Test the datasource in R/3 using transaction RSA3.
Transfer the data source to BW –System and replicate it in the BW-System.

  • Using airport time capsule to create an internet connected network from pre existing wifi network

i bought an airport time capsule for college. I bought it to create a network for my dorm room so that I could take the pre existing wifi from the school and make my own mini network that I can hook my other stuff up to. Problem is that I don't have an ethernet hook up in my room so the network would have to be created from a wifi network rather that a ethernet hook up. Is this still possible? Alternate suggestions? I am afraid of either the college network blocking users from communication with other devices via the wifi, or the fact that my printer would be on a huge network for all to screw with.

    Is this still possible?
NO, it won't work. Apple only works with apple.
    Alternate suggestions?
I am sure your college has rules about not running your own wifi networks.. but anyway.. that is up to you.. the Apple TC cannot turn off 2.4ghz which would be handy.. so the only way to do this following the rules is ethernet. You can run a full network standalone on ethernet. And still use wireless for internet.
If you want to use wireless standalone this is also possible but you need to connect a second wifi USB dongle your Mac so you can have two networks at once.. You can use an express to connect to the college wireless and bridge that to the TC by ethernet.. then use the TC to create your own network.. since you cannot turn off 2.4ghz I guess how long the College IT people take to track you down should be hours. If you could just use 5ghz it would probably be ok.
