Creating a new shape...

Sigh. Consarn it. This should be *basic*.
Here in Flash CS4 Explorer, I have shapes. It's intuitive that I be able to right-click on Scene1, and be able to Insert Shape. Can't. I go to the frame. Can't. I right-click everywhere. I see 'Create Shape', but everywhere I see it, it's grayed out - won't let me.
How do I create new shapes in the graphics folder in the library of a flash cs4 project?
Thanx for helping out a flash newbie (you will be credited in my FAQ),
Slowly

you can choose tool which you would like form the tools bar (Cntrl + F2) for e.g. Rectangle tool.
Go to the stage.
Draw a rectangle.
Right click on the rectangle
Now this is a shape
Choose "Convert To Symbol"
Give a Name e.g. "shape 20"
And choose the type to "Graphic"
Press "OK"
And you are done creating the graphic in your movie.
The reason why you would not be able to create a graphic on a scene is because, the graphic needs to be on a frame and on frame, it should  be made up of shapes.

  • How to get rid of the properties tab popping out when I create a new shape?

    Hi! I am having a bit of trouble getting rid of the properties tab that pops out everytime I create a new shape in Photoshop CC.
    Are there some settings to stop this from happening? I have my space strictly organized, as most of you probably, and I need to close it each time I create new shape... so it's frustrating.
    Thank you!

    After you draw out a shape, then go to the Properties panel fly-out menu and uncheck Show on Shape Creation

  • Hello my dear friends, is when we can create a new document ellipse shape in photoshop?

    Hello my dear friends, is when we can create a new document ellipse shape in photoshop?

    Photoshop documents are rectangular.
    You can use a Path, though, (created with the Ellipse Tool) as a Clipping Path or as a Vector Mask and save the file in an appropriate format (eps for Clipping Path, psd for Vector Mask or a png-24 copy).

  • Creating new shapes

    What is the best way to create new shapes for motion. Should I make them in Illustrator or is their a place that I can download them?
    Thank you
    Vincent LeGrow

    Yes, I guess I do what to make them in Moion. But I
    was also wondering if I could download more online,
    If you choose to import Illustrator files, you can find A LOT of them to download. Some are for free, like on Adobe's Exchange community. you can also buy them as royalty-free artwork on websites like istockphoto.com
    because the library of shapes provided is very
    limited.
    Not only the library is limited, but also Motions shape editing tools are limited compared to Illustrator.
    If you feel comfortable with importing Illustrator files, you may also check out Ampede's Layerlink plugin, which allows you import separate layers from the file, just like from Photoshop files. Without this plugin Motion can only import the flattened PDF layer.
    There's also a free script for Illustrator written by Specialcase:
    http://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads.html
    It exports the curently selected path to Motion as a shape object.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating a new chart in PowerPoint 2013 with Chart Styles applied

    In PowerPoint 2013 when I manually insert a new chart into a slide, the chart automatically has the Chart Style "Style 1" applied. This has the effect of setting the font sizes of chart labels to 12.
    However, no Chart Styles are applied if I try to add a new chart to PowerPoint 2013 using the following C# code:
    var ppt = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.Application();
    var presentation = ppt.Presentations.Add();
    var layout = Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.PpSlideLayout.ppLayoutChart;
    var slide = presentation.Slides.Add(1, layout);
    var shapes = slide.Shapes;
    shapes.AddChart();
    Font sizes seem to default to 18. Is there any way to create a chart or to set Chart Styles using Interop so that it matches a chart produced manually (i.e. has Chart Styles applied)?
    I am aware of the Chart.ChartStyle property but it only seems to change chart colors and legend placement, not font size. There is no Macro recorder in PowerPoint, so I can't generate VBA code to replicate the action of creating a new chart.

    Hi
    >> there any way to create a chart or to set Chart Styles using Interop so that it matches a chart produced manually (i.e. has Chart Styles applied)?
    You can add using shapes.AddChart2() instead of the last sentence shapes.AddChart(), I have tested in my projects, if I using AddChart(), the label size and the space will be different from manually insert a chart into a slide, but AddChart2() is the same
    with manually operating.
    And This object, member, or enumeration is deprecated and is not intended to be used in your code.
    More details you cab refer to the following link

  • The new shape tool

    Hello everyone.
    First, thanks a lot for the new shape tool. The stroke options (finally!!!) are great!!!! \o/\o/\o/\o/\o/ (now my Firework Lovers Friends will stop picking up on me for doing vectors in PS)
    I just find it to be a little hidden. After the shape layer is created, selecting it while the selection tool is active shows nowhere the Fill and Stroke options. I have selection and alignment options at the top, and the properties panel will show the shape´s masking properties.
    In order to change the Fills and Strokes options, I have to change the tool I´m using, either to the Pen tool, or the shape tool, so the top bar will change into Shape options. That´s the same functionality as, lets say, the text tool (it does not show Font and Paragraphs options anywhere when a Text layer is selected with the selection tool. It shows again alignment and selection options above, and "No properties" under the properties panel). But characters have their own panel, so I can leave that one open, and as soon as I select a Text layer with the V tool, I can visualize what font it is, what size, etc just by looking at the Character panel.
    As far as I noticed, there´s no "Shape Panel" I can leave opened to see Fill and Stroke options immedially. Wouldn´t it be nice to have one?
    Also, maybe that "Properties" panel is underused. Most layer I select fall under the "No properties" category. Maybe the options we get above when changing the type of tool (as when selecting a text layer and chaging to the text tool, or a shape layer and chaging to shape tool), could be displayed there. For me at least makes sense that a text font, size, color, etc  fall under "properties". The same for a shape´s Fill and Stroke properties. This way, we´d need to leave only one panel opened to get instant info and ability to change those (instead of having to leave the Character and Shape panel opened, for instance).

    Thanks for the feedback. I think you have some good suggestions here, and will pass them on.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers
    Pete

  • Create a new object that surrounds the selected objects

    Is there anyway in illustrator to create a new vector object from selected objects?
    IE if i have three rectangles selected, can I make a new vector path that surrounds them all.
    I dont mean welding a group of vectors together or offsetting a path...which isnt exactly what i need.
    What Im needing to do is create cut lines around complex vector art quickly.
    Thanks in advance.

    Mike i need to make an outline around a logo but if the logo has many elements that make up the edge of the logo does that method work?
    As the cut line needs to be a closed path
    Ideally i want to avoid tracing around the logo with the pen tool or add to shape area in pathfinder tab.
    I sure theres a really easy way to do this.
    Kurt its an interesting discussion however in need a closed path to surrond artwork and live paint does just the opposite :)

  • How do I create a new Style that can be applied to an object?

    Under the Assets menu there is a tab called “Styles”.  My question is how do I create a new Style that I can apply to an object???  A link to a tutorial or something like that would be useful because I can’t find anything!!!    Thanks in advance for helping me eliminate this frustration!!!

    What I want to do is create a library of styles that are basically pictures of various wood types.
    There are a couple of approaches you could try.
    Clipping paths
    1. Draw the part shape as a closed path.
    2. Position the image of woodgrain above or below the shape where you want it positioned.
    3. Cut
    4. Select the closed path.
    5. Paste Inside.
    See: Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Working with Objects > Working with clipping paths
    Tiled fills
    1. Use autotrace to trace the image of the woodgrain, using plenty of colors.
    Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Using Imported Artwork > Tracing bitmaps > Tracing an image
    2. Group the traced paths (but not the image) and create a tiled fill,
    Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Using Strokes and Fills > Applying attributes to fills > Using tiled fill attributes
    3. Make a style from a tile-filled object
    4. Apply the style to other objects.

  • Clipping Paths making new shape layers

    Hi,
    I have been having this problem for a while now since upgrading to CS6. When I create a new path on a layer to create a path it keeps creating the path on a new shape layer. This means, when I have a complicated path to create  I am ending up with 30+ shape layers that have to be selected and backgrounds deleted individually. With the older version I could keep adding shapes onto the same clipping path using the pen tool, however I cannot seem to understand how to reverse the change to keep the whole path on the one layer. Is there a way to do this?
    I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone could give.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    That's exactly what I was doing wrong. Thanks very much for your help!

  • How do I edit shapes created by Adobe Shape?

    Shapes created in Adobe Shape can be modified in Illustrator or Photoshop and saved as a separate file. However, your new file will not be updated in Adobe Shape.

    Your shapes should be automatically saved to the Creative Cloud.  I’m going to explain how you can access them below.
    How to access your shapes in other apps
    Desktop: In order for this to work, you must have the most recent version of Illustrator and Photoshop.
    Open Adobe Illustrator on your desktop.
    Open the Libraries panel (Windows > Libraries)
    Your shapes should be present in your Libraries.  If you don’t see them there, select the libraries drop down to see if you saved your shapes in a different library.
    Now, you can drag the shape onto your canvas. Or, right click and select "Use in document"
    At this point,  you can continue working with your shape, by adding editing.  Or, you can simply save the file.  Of course, after you save it to your desktop, you can email, post online, etc.
    Mobile apps:
    Open Adobe Illustrator Draw and open a drawing.
    Tap the Shapes icon to open the Shapes menu.
    Tap a library name to view the shapes in the Creative Cloud Library. Tap Change Library to select another library.
    Select your shape by tapping on it.
    Active Slide or Tocuh Slide. You can use Adobe Slide or Touch Slide to place the shape on the canvas. Access Touch Slide by tapping on the circular icon at the top of the menu bar.
    Place the shape.  Once you have activated Touch Slide, you will see a light rendition of your shape on the canvas.  Simply double tap on the shape outline to stamp the shape in place.
    Web:
    Navigate to https://assets.adobe.com/
    Select the Libraries menu item (left menu on the page)
    Select the desired library (if this is your first time using Libraries, you will only have one).
    This page provide a preview only.
    Also, here’s a great walk through video that may be useful: http://helpx.adobe.com/mobile-apps/how-to/shape-get-started.html?set=mobile-apps--fundamen tals--adobe-shape-cc

  • How to create a new template for pages in iPad?

    How to create a new template for pages in iPad?

    In spite of the latest updates Pages for iPad does not support:
    1) User templates
    2) Headers
    3) Footers
    4) Page numbers
    and it is not compatible with Pages for OSX, a document cannot be edited alternatively on Mac and iPad without destroying headers and footers.
    - The Word export is far from perfect
    - Does not really support Page Layout mode (you cannot duplicate a page at least)
    - Does not have a multi-page overview
    - The spelling support of iOS and OSX is at the level of Apple Maps except 4-5 languages.
    - It takes a long time until it starts
    INSTEAD, according to the latest updates:
    - It can do change tracking
    - Lock and unlock objects
    - Add reflections to shapes
    Dear Apple, please understand:
    - We like iPad and we wish to use it for real work.
    - We wish to have user templates, headers, footers and page numbers.
    - We do not expect all the features of Pages for OSX, but we do expect real compatibility.
    - We do not wish to switch back to Word for Windows unless you force us.
    Please try to concentrate on real development not on unimportant changes like in the latest dissapointing update.

  • Why does addChild(new Shape()) not work?

    I would like to know why the following code does not work:
    <mx:Application>
    private function doShape():void {
    var aShape:Shape = new Shape();
    this.addChild(aShape);
    <mx:Button click="doShape()" />
    </mx:Application>
    according to the docs, addChild() takes a DisplayObject as a
    parameter. Shape is a DisplayObject. However, I get an error
    (#1034) that Shape can't be converted to mx.core.IUIComponent
    I don't understand what the problem is...

    inlineblue -
    Thanks for the advice...
    I was actually converting code over from Flex 1.5 where there
    is a pretty big difference between calling a beginFill()/lineTo()
    method on a UIComponent and attaching a whole new
    Container/MovieClip. In Flex 1.5 the application was so slow I
    trimmed out every container/MovieClip I could.
    If it's not such an issue in Flex 2.0 then I will go with the
    easier to read addChild(new Box()) method.
    Flex harUI - I assume that you mean if I create a new
    UIComponent and then add a Shape for color, I am essentially doing
    the same thing that normal containers like Box (a UIComponent) do
    with their chrome instance (a Shape?).

  • 3D New shape from layer in CC

  • New shapes in Numbers...

    I'd like to bring new shapes into Numbers... I see the question has been answered for keynote - but the answer looks pretty specific to keynote - so do you have to go through keynote or is there a way to bring custom shapes directly into Numbers?
    Also can you change a shape based on a calculation in the spreadsheet?

    Wow, thanks! This has now turned into a UNIX problem. When I type svg2key in the same directory where it sits, it says "command not found" yet the rights thingy says: -rwx-r-xr-x. My dim past says that is Owner Group World and they all have execute rights. So what gives? Switching to superuser doesn't help. Oh!... why doesn't switching to -rwxrwxrwx help either?
    I have had fun with Inkscape (the open source graphics program). I was able to create a .svg file. And this HAS been a fun romp in the terminal
    I seem to remember a shell change thing that I did here. When I got started on Mac OS it seemed like the default shell was different than later on. When I started writing aliases in the terminal and rather than rewrite them I think I switched shells somewhere. This is what I use for an alias - I think that defines the shell I'm using? alias rm "rm -i

  • Remove 3D New Shape From Layer

    I've applied the 3D > New Shape From Layer command to an image. Now I'd like to remove the 3D shape and apply a different shape. Is there a way to remove the first 3D shape? I've searched, but haven't found a way to do it.

    Hi,
    From post #8 onward should be a new topic.
    To answer most basically, in order to not have part of a 3D mesh display you need to use opacity maps. This is supported in CS4. There also is a way to hide geometry (or make it invisible) but that won't accomplish what is being asked. It hides whole mesh groups, not just parts of mesh groups.
    If you just want to display the text mapped on a sphere, then you need to setup a matching opacity map. The steps to get this setup is pretty quick, if not discoverable (yes the UI has room for improvement). It can also be made so that the text is live and a single file controls both opacity mapping and text color. Finally, once created, a material can be saved out that can be used in the future to cut out some steps.
    Below are steps, but I haven't confirmed most gotchas. There is one known problem that shows up in the Layers panel (No indication that an opacity map is applied). Another thing is to make sure and save a copy of the final file so you don't overwrite the canned sphere.dae file.
    1) create new 1024 x 512 RGB with transparent background
    2) with Type tool, create a text string to fit middle third of document space
    3) save this file, and close
    4) go to File> Open and browse to Ps application folder> Presets> Meshes> Sphere.dae
    5) expand the 3D panel, select the Sphere_Material, then click the Diffuse map icon and select 'Load Texture...'
    6) select the text file created above to replace the current map file
    7) now click the Opacity map icon and select 'Load Texture...'
    8) again select the text file created above (ok the warning dialog)
    You should now just see text wrapping spherically . At this point you can save out a material preset to apply to any 3D shape without having to build the materail from scratch each time. And make sure to Save As..., closing the original Sphere.dae file without saving to keep that preset clean.
    To change the text again, just open the Diffuse map file in the 3D layer and edit the text layer. Saving the file will update on the model and affect the Opacity map as well (ie. change text string or size).
    Regards,
    steve
