Creating a website in iweb question

As a first time iWeb user, does anyone know how to view web pages as they will look in my browser before I upload the site? As a long time PC user with Dreamweaver, you could choose to see how the page would look in Explorer by hitting the F-12 key. Is there a similar feature for a Mac and iWeb?
Thanks, skate-away

Hi there,
Welcome to the Apple Forums. On the top left hand side of the screen in iWeb, it should display the name of your site. If you click on the name, you will then see a page with various options. You will see "Publish To" & you can then select "Local Folder". Once you have published there, you will then be able to view the HTML files within your Browser.

  • How can I create a website on iweb if my operating system is leopard?

I'm trying to create a website using iweb. Everytime I try to open an account with mobileMe I can't because I guess mobileMe will no longer function after June 30 I think. Can I still open the account and publish a website since it's still May?

No.  MobileMe stopped accepting new sign ups a long time ago in preparation for it no longer being here at the end of June.  If you already have a MobileMe account, then you can continue to publish there until the end of June, but otherwise no.
You can still publish a website though, but just use a proper host such as GoDaddy or HostExcellence or a lot of the others that are out there.

  • I created a website with iWeb but use GoDady for hosting it rather than MobileMe. The images on my Gallery page do not show at all on the external domain but they DO show when seen on MobileMe. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Many thanks!

    Hello al!
I created a website with iWeb but use GoDady for hosting it rather than MobileMe. The images on my Gallery page do not show at all on the external domain but they DO show when seen on MobileMe. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Many thanks!

Just create a new page (or use the existing photo page) on your external site and use html to add an iframe sized to the page and link it to the mobilme gallery page. Works for me just fine when showing my gallery from a yahoo site.
    like this
    <iframe scrolling="off" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="yes" style="width:100%;height:100%;border:none" src="http://gallery.me.com/your_account_name"></iframe>

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • I created a website with iweb, some of the links do not work on ie

Icreated a website on iweb, originally had problem with firefox, I was helped and that issue was resolved.  I just discovereded that some of my links within the site are not hot/working.  It seems to be working on safari, firefox and google chrome but not on internet explorer and it is not all the links.  Any suggestions?

Hmm, okay I'm not entirely sure about this one. I know that a lot of iWeb users say that they have some issues with IE, and I know that lots of shapes and shadows can have an affect on an iWeb site's appearance in iWeb. But it seems strange that it would only happen on that one page, when the other pages are pretty similar.
I would try the rage software/webcrusher method, as it is possible that if you run your site through webcrusher, it will end up working. That tutorial mentions not having shapes and shadows, but I doubt that's something you'd want to get rid of entirely as that seems to be the bulk of the design, but it's still worth a shot to just optimize the site and see if it works.
If you need help with it, e-mail rage software and their support guys will be able to lend a hand.

  • Mobileme website and iweb question

how much longer will Apple host my mobileme website? Any suggestions for transitioning  to a new server? Will iWeb continue to work as my web update program?

Why did you not consider doing a search of this forum first before posting a question like this?  Your totally unique question is asked and answered on a daily basis on this forum.
If you had searched you would have found that MobileMe will be available until the end of June this year and if you are a registered MobileMe user, then you should have received e-mails regarding this and extending your subscription for free until the end of June.
iWeb is an application and you can continue to use it to update and publish your website - it works in Snow Leopard, Lion and will work with Mountain Lion.
Have a look at GoDaddy and HostExcellence for starters and do a search of this forum.

Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have. <br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)'''''

  • Saving your website in iWeb before moving to new project

    Hi there!
I have a questions and was wondering if anyone can help me. I've created a website in iWeb, which I've loaded to .Mac. Now I need to start another project and I fear that the new 1.1 update may cause some errors etc with my new project which may influance the already created/ exsisting website that I have in iWeb. My question is this, can I save my work somewhere, somehow so that in anything happens I can always retreave it?
Now, I do know of an option to Publish to Folder, but I don't think there is any way I can take my work from that Folder back to the iWeb to edit it. Or Can I?
    Please help.
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Look inside your home folder/Library/Application Support/
You will see a file called Domain. This is the file in which iWeb saves all information. This is the file you need to make a backup of in case anything happens. If you ever want to move your iWeb project to another computer, this is the file that you need to copy over into the same directory.
Might want to make a copy of the iWeb 1.0.1 application itself as well to go along with the 1.0.1 Domain file.

  • Multiple Websites using iWeb

I currently created one website through iweb. www.michelemcloughlin.com
I now want to create multiple websites for clients, friends etc. Is it possible to do this? I have iLife 08, what would be the best way to do this?
    help!!!

    MicheleMc08 wrote:
Do you think its easier to buy ilife 09 and not need to go through this process of individual folders?
Michele ~ I think it's better to keep sites for different clients and friends each in their own iWeb Domain file — but that's just a personal opinion and others may differ.
Also, I have a mac account, if I were to design another website for a client do they need to buy hosting as well in addition to their domain name?
As above, I think it's better for clients and friends each to have their own hosting and domain name — although it's not necessary. Perhaps it wouldn't be inconvenient for you to have a close friend's site hosted on your MobileMe account. Also, there are some restrictions regarding setting up multiple domain names to a single MobileMe account — read more here:

With iLife 09 is the back up necessary.
Backups are always necessary — your Mac's internal HD could crash at any moment. Do you have a plan for when that happens? ...There are only two types of HD: Those that have crashed and those that haven't — yet:

    Yes.

  • How can I publish my website from iWeb?

I have created a Website on iWeb - but did not realize that I would not be able to publish via MobileMe. I cannot publish on a local folder. How can I get my site online?

  • How can I find and edit my website on iWeb? It has disappeared

I created my website on iWeb and published it on Google.  I have revised it a couple of times but now, when I open iWeb, the website is not there.  I just get a new templatae.  "Visit" is unavailable. If I try to open it from the Finder via iWeb, it goes to the same place.  PS-I just upgraded to Lion!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • What's the best way to create a portfolio in iWeb?

I'm a freelance writer. I'm creating my website using iWeb. Now I'm trying to add my portfolio. I don't think the album page will work. Does anyone have any advice?

There are several ways you can go about it. If the documents are single pages it would be easier to create an image file of the document and add it to the web page for the visitor to read.  For a downloadable pdf version of it first make a pdf version and then zip/compress it:
Then create a text based hyperlnk like "Click to download" and link it to the zipped file via the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane and the Link to a File option:
Another approach would be to create image files of each document you want to display.  Then upload them to a folder on your server titled "docs".  Then use the method in this demo page to let visitors click on a button under a thumbnail version of the document to open it in a new, separate window for reading: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window.
Then add a hyperlink under each thumbnail titled "Download" and link to the zipped png version.  You could add many docs to one page and not have to create a separate page to display each document.  An example of multiple items on a page that open in their own windows can be seen in this demo page: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.
It's just what you're comfortable with as far as iWeb is concerned.
