Creating an e-book

Ok a client has asked us to create an e-book for them. It's going to have loads of info in, listings of comapnies etc but we want to actually design it nicely in ID 5 and also have a few pages of ads.
Now we can do that here, and at some point it will be printed - but if we want to upload it to their website what is the best way of doing it? Can we keep the same formatting and font sor do we have to use web fonts. Will the formatting change and also will it be viewable on tablets, iphones etc?
I've not done this before so any help would be really appreciated.

I would recommend to use a later version of InDesign than CS5 to export an epub because this functionality has been changed the most in the newer versions beginning with CS5.5 up to CC now.
You can create from the content of the same indd a pdf for printing and an epub, from CS6 you can use an alternative layout to make some changes to improve the reading experience on electronic devices or you can make a new indd based on the old one.
From CS5.5 upward you can add a tag in paragraph styles which will be relevant in all html export types as epub is one of them.
As an epub is a flair of html you have to live with that the epub might look different on different epub readers or computers, same with embedding fonts. Not every font can be embedded not every program which will be able to read the epub is able to use your fonts. Formatting is done with CSS. InDesign will create automatically a CSS based on the formating in you file and your tagging but you can choose to use any other CSS with the correct classes of your file.
At the moment I would recommend to make some additional editing in the epub after exporting it to InDesign. But things are going forward very fast here.

I have an active existing iTunes store account and use the same Apple ID for signing into my iTunes Connect Account that distributes Apps.
I have created some books using the iBook author and in order to distribute content on the iBookstore I have been told electronically that I need a new Apple ID and password that is different to iTunes store account which I have already activated and completed contracts, tax information and bank information valid until 2013?
I want to create a Paid Books Account using the same email address, tax information and bank information. This has been most frustrating, as I cannot get passed the sign in section and there is no contact person I can speak to. I was of the understanding the iTunes connect account and the Developer programs which I paid good money for is all what I needed to be paid for selling iBooks on the iBookstore???
I only have one email address and wish to also use it for the Paid Books Account. I have books ready to be exported and published.
I am also having trouble locating and downloading iTunes Producer. I understand I need to have the Paid Books Account active to access the iTunes Producer program. Please help.

Hi Lrwill,
If the apps that are on your son's iPad were purchased under his Dad's Apple ID, then signing your Apple ID onto the iPad will not help you with updating those apps.
Also, if the iPad was sync'd with his Dad's iTunes library, then hooking it up to your computer/iTunes library, will require you to reset the iPad, and everything that was loaded under the other Library and Apple ID will be wiped out.
Can you provide a little more info about what was set up under which Apple ID and what iTunes library the iPad was sync'd with?

How can i create a photo book from 2 libraries easily?

This is my situation.
I want to create a photo album of my child for the past year for parents/grandparents etc from the photos on mine AND my wifes macbooks. Before iphoto 9.5 i would simply look at her shared library from my iPhoto and use hers and my photos to make a book.
Now there is no shared library in 9.5, so after doing my homework on how apple wants us to do this now, I started a shared iCloud photostream ('kid' 2013) and invited my wife to it. I started adding photos from my library, and she did the same. All good i thought, but no. Becasue the photo stream only sorts by 'date added' not date taken, and in fact I cannot even see the date the photo was taken in the photostream, it means making a chronological photo book from both our photo libraries has now been made impossible.
Anybody got any other ways to do this?

Create an album, and then select all photos in the Shared Photo Sream and add them to the album. In the album you can see the dates of the photos in the Info panel. Then sort your album by date, and create the Photo Book from the album, not directly from the shared stream.

You can't just merge them. You will have to add the photos of Book B to Book A and add new pages to A to duplicate those in B.
NOthing was said about copying and pasting - you add the photos from book B to book a, add pages to bbok a and recreate teh pages in book a
Another way would be to print book B to PDF sending the PDF to iPhoto and then placing the pages as full page images in book A

HT1040 trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.

if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.

Photos are added to book in chronological order. So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

At the bottom of the photo tray at the right click on the Clear Placed Photos button. This will remove the photos from the pages but not from the book.

PDF files to create a new book in iBooks Author

Is it wise to use ready PDF files to create a new book in iBooks Author?
I have a music book with lot's of images that whas previously published as a physical book. I have it all as ready PDF files with illustrations.
Should I copy paste all texts and images seperately into iBooks Author or could I just drag the complete PDF's into the iBooks program.

To drag a page's contents means selecting just that page, which is just copy/paste with the result being an image.
Dragging a PDF into an iBA book means dragging the entire file, which is not the same as selective copy/paste and as noted, results in just an image.
It is possible to just do text /andor just do images, but success can depend on certain attributes they possess, etc. You need to select specific assets, then paste them in, then rework as needed.
PDF-to-iBA isn't neat - formatting, fonts, etc. will be lost. Find the original content that the PDF came from and try to work with it, instead - that will be much cleaner and require less rework, I think.

When creating a photo book how can I sort the photos shown by file name?

I am creating a photo book. The photos shown in the right hand column appear out-of-order. How do I sort them by file name? The album in iPhoto the book is based on is sorted by file name.

You can not - they are soreted by date
-- the only solution I have seen is to put them in an album sorted the way you and and then use the batch cnage command to redate them with a small invrement between so a data sort matches your desired sort -- I personally do not want to redate a bunch of my photos nor do i want to have to go through and un-re- date a bunch

.Issue with creating a photo book in Iphoto error message states some frames are missing images, but I've checked each one and from I can see they are all filled in. It won't let my buy the book though

I've checked this many times and cannot locate the issue. The book appears to be complete from my perspective. What can I do now? I worked very hard on this and would hate to lose it all.

"your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can buy this book."
The most common reason for this error is, that you have used a page layout that needs a background photo and you have not yet added the backdrop. Then the book is still showing some default grayscale image.
Check, if one of your page layouts is using this background:
Then you need to add a photo to the background of the page.

To reference to a cell in the same file, but in a other sheet user the following format:

table: the name of teh table in the sheet
cell: the cell reference in the table (e.g. B5)

Soory, no, it is not possible. You can only combine multiple copies of the same book into one order.

Duplicate the book in case of problems (command-D) and click on change theme - select the same theme and the new binding -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
- check the preview very carefully in case any text reflows or gets cut off due to size differences

How to create a briefing book in Shared Folders

Hello,
Firstly, can the subject of this thread be achieved?
I am able to create a briefing book (within My Briefing Books) and use delivers to deliver it to myself. However, I receive the access denied error message when trying to send the same BB to a user.
I have created a folder within the shared folder area and copied my BB to the folder. I have added this user to the presentation server administrators group and tried using delivers to deliver the BB from the shared folder, but alas it deosnt work which suggests the BB in essence doesnt exist in the shared folder.
Anyway, can anyone let me know if it can be done, if so, how is it done?

What was the error is there any secuirty issue or the report is not delivering ....Please see the Log file(OracleBI\server\Log\iBots)
