Creating data in a many-to-many-relationship

Hello,
we really have problems in implementing a JClient dialog based on BC4J for creating data in a many to many relationship - especially with cascade delete on both sides.
Simplified our tables look like:
create table A_TABLE
A_ID VARCHAR2(5) not null,
A_NAME VARCHAR2(30) not null,
constraint PK_A_TABLE primary key (A_ID),
constraint UK_A_TABLE unique (A_NAME)
create table B_TABLE
B_ID VARCHAR2(5) not null,
B_NAME VARCHAR2(30) not null,
constraint PK_B_TABLE primary key (B_ID),
constraint UK_B_TABLE unique (B_NAME)
create table AB_TABLE
A_ID VARCHAR2(5) not null,
B_ID VARCHAR2(5) not null,
constraint PK_AB_TABLE primary key (A_ID, B_ID),
constraint FK_AB_A foreign key (A_ID) references A_TABLE (A_ID) on delete cascade,
constraint FK_AB_B foreign key (B_ID) references B_TABLE (B_ID) on delete cascade
Could JDev Team please provide a BC4J/JClient sample that performs the following task:
The dialog should use A_TABLE as master and AB_TABLE as detail. The detail displays the names associated with the IDs. Next to AB_TABLE should be a view of B_TABLE which only displays rows that are currently not in AB_TABLE. Two buttons are used for adding and removing rows in AB_TABLE. After adding or removing rows in the intersection the B_TABLE view should be updated. The whole thing should work in the middle and client tier. This means no database round trips after each add/remove, no posts for AB_TABLE and no query reexecution for B_TABLE until commit/rollback.
This is a very common szenario: For an item group (A_TABLE) one can select and deselect items (AB_TABLE) from a list of available items (B_TABLE). Most of JDeveloper4s wizards use this. They can handle multi/single selections, selections from complex structures like trees and so on. Ok, the wizards are not based on BC4J - or? How can we do it with BC4J?
Our main problems are:
1. Updating the view of B_TABLE after add/remove reflecting the current selection
2. A good strategy for displaying the names instead of the IDs (subqueries or joining the three tables)
3. A JBO-27101 DeadEntityAccessException when removing an existing row from AB_TABLE and adding it again
Other problems:
4. We get a JBO-25030 InvalidOwnerException when creating a row in AB_TABLE. This is caused by the composition. We workaround this using createAndInitRow(AttributeList) on the view object (instead of create()). This is our add-Action:
ViewObject abVO = panelBinding.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("ABView");
ViewObject bVO = panelBinding.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("BView");
Row bRow = bVO.getCurrentRow();
NameValuePairs attribList = new NameValuePairs(
new String[]{"BId"}, new Object[]{bRow.getAttribute("BId")});
Row newRow = abVO.createAndInitRow(attribList);
abVO.insertRow(newRow);
5. After inserting the new row the NavigationBar has enabled commit/rollback buttons and AB_TABLE displays the row. But performing a commit does nothing. With the following statement after insertRow(newRow) the new row is created in the database:
newRow.setAttribute("BId", bRow.getAttribute("BId"));
Please give us some help on this subject.

Our main problems are:
1. Updating the view of B_TABLE after add/remove
reflecting the current selectionYou should be able to use insertRow() to insert the row into proper collection.
However to remove a row only from the collection, you need to add a method on the VO subclasses (and perhaps export this method so that the client side should see it) to unlink a row from a collection (but not remove the associated entities from the cache).
This new method should use ViewRowSetImpl.removeRowAt() method to remove the row entry at the given index from it's collection. Note that this is an absolute index and not a range index in the collection.
2. A good strategy for displaying the names instead
of the IDs (subqueries or joining the three tables)You should join the three tables by using reference (and perhaps readonly) entities.
3. A JBO-27101 DeadEntityAccessException when
removing an existing row from AB_TABLE and adding it
againThis is happening due to remove() method on the Row which is marking the row as removed. Attempts to add this row into another collection will throw a DeadEntityAccessException.
You may 'remove the row from it's collection, then call 'Row.refresh' on it to revert the entity back to undeleted state.

4. We get a JBO-25030 InvalidOwnerException when
creating a row in AB_TABLE. This is caused by the
composition. We workaround this using

ViewObject abVO =
O =
panelBinding.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("AB
iew");
ViewObject bVO =
O =
panelBinding.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("BV
ew");
Row bRow = bVO.getCurrentRow();
NameValuePairs attribList = new NameValuePairs(
new String[]{"BId"}, new
String[]{"BId"}, new
Object[]{bRow.getAttribute("BId")});
Row newRow = abVO.createAndInitRow(attribList);
abVO.insertRow(newRow);This is a handy approach. Note that Bc4j framework does not support dual composition where the same detail can be owned by two or more masters. In those cases, you also need to implement post ordering to post the masters before the detail (and reverse ordering for deletes).

5. After inserting the new row the NavigationBar has

the following statement after insertRow(newRow) the
new row is created in the database:
newRow.setAttribute("BId",
d", bRow.getAttribute("BId"));This bug in JDev 903 was fixed and a patch set (9.0.3.1) is (I believe) available now via MetaLink.

  • How to create ViewModel in an MVVM application using entity framework where database has many-to-many relationship?

    I have started developing a small application in WPF. Since I am completely new to it, to start with I took a microsoft's sample available at
    Microsoft Sample Application and following the pattern of the sampke I have been so far successful  in creating four different views for their corresponding
    master tables. Unfortunately, I have got stuck up as the sample does not contain pattern for creating ViewModel when there is a many-to-many relationship in the database. In my application, I have the following data structure:
    1. Table Advocate(advId, Name)
    2. Table Party (partyId, Name)
    3 Table Case (caseId, CaseNo)
    4. Link Table Petitioner (CaseId, PartyId)
    5. Link Table Respondent (CaseId, PartyId)
    6. Link Table EngagedAdvocate(CaseId, advId)
    7. Link Table EngagedSrAdvocate(CaseId, advId)
    In the scenario above, I am a bit confused about how to go forward creating the required ViewModel which would render me to have multiple instances of Petitioners, Respondents, Advocates and SrAdvocates.
    Please explain details in step by step manner considering that whatever work I have completed so far is a replica of Microsoft's sample referred above. I would also like to mention that I have developed my application
    using VB.net. So please provide solution in vb.net.
    After getting many-to-many relationship introduced into my application, it would achieve one level above the sample application and I would like to share with the community so that it could be helpful to many aspiring developers seeking help with MVVM.

    Hi ArunKhatri,
    I would suggest you referring to Magnus's article, it provides an example of how you could display and let the user edit many-to-many relational data from the Entity Framework in a dynamic and data-bound DataGrid control in WPF:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/20719.wpf-displaying-and-editing-many-to-many-relational-data-in-a-datagrid.aspx
    You can learn how to design the ViewModel and the relationship between the entities.

  • How to create a many to many relationship in forms 10g

    hello frnds,
    I want to create many to many relationship, can any one help me plz?
    Regards
    Divya Alok

    Hi ,
    In this situation create two separate blocks one is master and the other one is detail block.
    Then make detail block as database data block with the proper table name.Pass the value that your enter in the master block to the detail block as the search criteria to fetch the data from the table and to show the data related to the master value .If you have multiple master values then create data base data block sql query in such way that it must use all the master inputs as the search criteria.
    EX. Some time user wants to see the details of the employee after entering the emp id as the search criteria,that time you have to pass emp id as the search criteria to detail data base data block.Even you can pass emp id and emp name as the search criteria to the detail database data block.
    Thanks,
    Pavan.

  • SSAS - Many to Many Relationship Grain Filters Out Data (Many to One)

    I have a simple Many to One example: One Fact Table record has many Dimensional Items.  The Example I'm using is One FactEvent record can have multiple EventMembers.  These members are always unique so the relationship is really many to one (vs.
    many to many). The grain of the Fact is one row for every event.  Not all events have members, but I have stubbed those with -1
    I tried using a Referenced dimensional relationship, but it threw my total counts off.  I decided to make it more complicated by using a
    Many to Many relationship, but I had issues once I started slicing the data.
    The following are my two very simple tables:
    FactEvents:
    EventMemberID MemberKey EventMemberKey MemberName MemberGender
    1             1         -1             None       N
    2             2         E2             Tyler      M
    3             3         E2             John       M
    4             4         E2             Sue        F
    5             5         E5             Tim        M
    6             6         E5             Jane       F
    7             7         E12            Ashley     F
    8             8         E12            Jessica    F
    9             9         E12            Kristy     F
    10            10        E17            Mike       M
    11            11        E17            Josh       M
    12            12        E18            Warren     M
    13            13        E18            Eric       M
    Here is the bridge Table:
    EventID EventBK EventName         EventMemberKey EventCount
    1       E1      Hockey Game       -1             1
    2       E2      Soccer Game       E2             1
    3       E3      Baseball Game     -1             1
    4       E4      Concert           -1             1
    5       E5      Food Festival     E5             1
    6       E6      Movie Night       -1             1
    7       E7      Data Group Event  -1             1
    8       E8      City Tour         -1             1
    9       E9      Ski Trip          -1             1
    10      E10     Camping Trip      -1             1
    11      E11     Hiking Trip       -1             1
    12      E12     Community Cleanup E12            1
    13      E13     Block Party       -1             1
    14      E14     Toastmasters      -1             1
    15      E15     Train Spotting    -1             1
    16      E16     Plane Spotting    -1             1
    17      E17     Fishing Trip      E17            1
    18      E18     Hunting Trip      E18            1
    19      E19     Street Hockey     -1             1
    20      E20     Bonspiel          -1             1
    You can see many events have no members and some events have multiple members.  There is not separate members Dim, just the bridge table.  I tried to build view that would work as bridge tables, but it started to feel like overkill.
    Here is the SSAS structure:
    Cube:
    I tried creating a bridge Dim and Measure Group that can be used to join FactEvents with DimMemberEvent:
    When I query the database tables directly, I can get the structure I'm looking for:
    Gender  Count
    F            5
    M           7
    N           15
    This represents that although there are 20 events, there were 5 Female and 7 Male participants and 15 events with No participants.  When looking at the cube in excel I get:
    Gender  Count
    F            3
    M           4
    N           15
    Grand Total 20
    The grand total is correct, however, it looks like it is grouping the events, so if there are multiple Female members at a particular event, they get rolled up.  You can see this better if I pull in member name:
    It includes all the names with count 1 ie. 5 Females with count 1, but the gender subtotal is 3 (as it is grouping the gender dimension)
    The detail member counts are good, but the rolled up M and F counts are stripping out duplicates.  Is there a way to model this in SSAS to preserve the detail member counts when the member dimension is used?  Is a many to many the best solution?
    This is all using SQL Server 2012 Multi-Dimensional Model. Thanks.

    Ok, for starters, if it's a one to many relationship, don't set it up as a many to many!  Avoid many to many relationships and really anything other than "regular" relationships.
    Second, the tables you pasted the data for aren't the tables you are describing them as, based on the dsv screenshot you included.  If your post is confusing to the people who are wanting to help you, they will quickly move on.
    It seems that you are not clear on how to construct a star schema.  I will lay one out for you and hopefully this can help you on your journey.
    fact_member_event:
    event_id
    member_id
    member_event_count
    dim_member:
    member_id
    member_key
    member_name
    member_gender
    dim_event:
    event_id
    event_name
    fact_event:
    event_id
    event_count
    Or alternately, you could drop the fact_event fact table and have a calculated member that uses dimEvent.event.event.allmembers.count.  It's a little bit of a weird situation that I would want to play with, but I would start with the above.
    Also if you post back and show query results, you should make it clear what columns  you are displaying.  I see "count" in your query above, but nowhere in the star schema do I see "member count"
    as a field.. I guess that's event count?
    Hope this helps,
    Ken

  • Many-to-many relationship with date dependency

    Hi.
    We have an application which manages membership of users in groups.
    It is typical many-to-many relationship (table users and groups and
    relational table usersgroups). So far so good.
    But we would like to introduce another condition into this relationship
    - date validity.
    For example - person should belong to group only from date1 to date2.
    I think that relational table should contain not only a couple of id's but also
    a two dates (from-to) and all those four together should form primary key.
    Then we should need a condition (where) for such relationsphip.
    But toplink many-to-many mapping doesn't have any features for this.
    Have you any idea how to implement our requirement in another way?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    I am not sure how you plan on setting those dates for each object in the ManyToMany collection.
    The only way I can think of is to treat the usergroup table as its own entity, as a wrapper over groups (or users) in the many to many collection, allowing the application to set the date values directly. This usergroup entity would have a 1:1 to both user and group, while user and/or group would have 1:M to usergroup.
    Best Regards,
    Chris

  • How to create query for tables with many to many relationship

    in my sql i'm unable to update the table using select clause...is there any way to update a table which is in many to many relationship.
    Ex:1st table student(student_id int primary key auto_increment, student_name varchar(30));
    2nd table contact (contact_id int primary key auto_increment, c_email varchar(40));
    3rd table student_contact(student_id int references student, contact_id int references contact);
    i would like to auto insert the both two columns in the student_contact while the student and the contact table being updated automatically.

    This is a JSP/JSTL forum, not a SQL forum. If you're using MySQL, better use their own forums at dev.mysql.com.
    I'll give some hints anyway: learn about SQL JOIN. In general there is good SQL documentation available at the website of the RDBMS manfacturer. Go check it out. There is also a nice SQL tutorial at w3schools.com. Good luck.

  • Many-to-many relationship - show all values

    Hi,
    I'm building a cube in 2008R2 and have a many-to-many relationship through a bridging table but when displaying the results it is effectively an inner join and I would like to see a full outer join with the unknown rows set to "unknown".
    I've managed to achieve this by doing a full outer join in the view that creates my bridging table and having an unknown member in my dimensions but then when I added in a dimension that wasn't directly related to the bridging table the unknown rows
    were removed again. I was able to get past this by adding a row to my fact table with all the keys set to unknown and the metrics set to zero.
    Whilst this works it really does not seem like an ideal solution, especially as previously empty metrics are now returning a zero.
    Is there any way to achieve this in SSAS? Perhaps in the way unknown members are processed?
    Thanks,

    cccparkhill,
    What you did is the only way to achieve what you want.
    In cubes you connect Dimensions throw Facts. By definition dimensions are
    “How do business people describe the data that
    results from the business process?”
     and facts are “What are we measuring?”, noting the underlined
    we can understand that _normally and usually_ the relation between the dimensions and the facts represent incidents happened in the real world ... the way you approach, think, and deal with dimensions and facts in cubes is different than dealing with tables
    in normal relational transnational database.
    Personally I do what you did when I want to achieve "Left join"

  • Many to Many Relationship

    In powerpivot we are facing problem in resolving the many-to-many relationship between tables.
    Current table schema is:
    Having 4 tables-
    Bills - columns are- Bill No(primary key)
    Billing Fee Table-Fee ID(primary key), Bill Type, Sub Bill Type
    FeeList Table-FeeList ID(primary key),Fee ID(Foriegn Key to Billingble),
    Bill No(Foriegn Key to Bills)
    Payments Table-Pay ID(Primary Key), Bill No(Foriegn Key to Bills)
    Bills is the primary table for Feelist Table
    and Payments Table -Bill No is the primary key.
    Billing Fee Table is primary table for FeeList Table -
    Fee ID is the primary key.
    To create a pivot table using Payments Table, I need
    Bill Type and Sub Bill Type. Hence fetched from
    Biling Fee Table to FeeList Table based on the
    Fee ID column using RELATED function.
    As FeeList Table and Payments Table is having duplicate
    Bill Nos, it is not possible to get Bill Type and
    Sub Bill Type to Payments Table. I am trying to use LOOKUPVALUE
    function to get data based on the Bill No, as there is no direct relationship exists between these two tables.
    I have tried using
    =LOOKUPVALUE('FeeList Table'[Sub Bill Type], 'FeeList Table'[Bill No], 'Payments Table'[Bill No]) function. But
    the lookupvalue function returns an error if a duplicate is found.
    Error is as below:
    Calculation error in column 'Payments Table'[Sub Bill Type]: A table of multiple values was supplied where a single value was expected.
    Kindly assist to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi Rekha,
    What should your LOOKUPVALUE return if multiple rows are found in the FeeListTable? By the way it should work if a really finds "duplicates" (i.e. multiple times the same return value) but fails if it returns multiple rows with different values.
    If you for example would want to return the first entry that was found, you could try (have not checked in PP for typos):
    CALCULATE(MIN('FeeList Table'[Sub Bill Type]),
      FILTER('FeeList Table',
         'FeeList Table'[Bill No] = 'Payments Table'[Bill No]
    Edit: a very nice way to handle Many-to-Many relationships is explained here:

  • Many to many relationships (Again)

    Hello,
    There was a posting on above subject.
    Re: Many to many relationships between Fact and Dimension
    They asked to look chapter 3 in the user's guide... <http://download.oracle.com/docs/pdf/B10996_01.pdf>. chapter 3 talks about defining Oracle Data Objects. I could find above subject in chapter 3 .
    Here is our situation We are using OWB 9.2.0.2.8. We are in a situation to build ETL from denormalized (relational tables) source to normalized target (relational tables). It is not a data warehouse situation. It could be a reverse of data warehouse. As given below
    Supplier >--------------------<Item
    becomes Supplier ------<supp_item.>--------------Item after many to many resolution, Where supp_item is interface table.
    We were able build Supplier and Item through seprate mapping. I could build supp_item through post mapping process. I look for alternate thought as well.
    We are using separate sequence number for Supplier , Item and supp_item. The sequences will be surrogate keys such as Supplier ( Suppseq(PK)), Item (Itemseq (PK)) and supp_item(suppitemseq (PK)) Here is the sample
    Supplier
    001|S001
    002|S002
    003|S003
    004|S004
    Item
    001|I001
    002|I002
    003|I003
    Supp_item (Suppseq|ItemSeq)
    001|002 --- S001 I002
    001003 -----S001 I003
    001|004 ----- S001 I 004
    002|002 ---- S 002 I002
    002|003 ---- S 002 I003
    003|001 --- S 003 I 003
    003|003 --- S 003 I 003
    Did any body face such situation? What is the best way to create a mapping (single map or multiple map with processflow sequence) for this situation?
    Let me know the steps exercised in OWB for this situation.
    I appreciate your help.
    Regards
    Ram

    Hi Ram,
    The easiest way to do this, would be to:
    - Load supplier in one mapping and generate the surrogate key.
    - Load item another (or the same) mapping and generate the surrogate key.
    - Load supplier_item in its own separate mapping, using a key lookup (or join) to (with) the supplier and item tables.
    Needless to say, you should create unique keys on the natural key of the supplier and item tables, to enable quick index-based lookups and make sure you get one unique value for every value of the natural key.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark.

    I created a stateless session bean as a business facade for the two entity beans. I then created a webservice to test the beans.
    What works :
    - create a consultant
    - get a consultant
    - create a solution
    - get a solution
    (basically everything that doesn't involve the relationship field.
    However, what doesn't work is the method call assignSolution:
    - assign solution : this is implemented as follows
    Business Method.
         public void assignSolution(String consultantID, String solutionID)
              throws ProfilingException {
              // TODO : Implement
              ConsultantLocal cons = null;
              SolutionLocal sol = null;
              try {
                   cons = consHome.findByPrimaryKey(consultantID);
                   sol = solHome.findByPrimaryKey(solutionID);
                   Collection solutions = cons.getSolutions();
                   solutions.add(sol);
                   //sol.getConsultants().add(cons);
              } catch (FinderException ex) {
                   ex.printStackTrace();
                   throw new ProfilingException("failed to retrieve data from DB", ex);
    As you can see I am trying to use the CM Relationship in this methhod. Adding the solution to a consultant should be as simple as adding a solution object to the collection retrieved with the getSolutions accessor. The Container is expected to persist the information in my MAXDB database.
    However this doesn't happen.

    I can't figure out what the problem is with the ORM mapping defined.
    On the database level I have three tables. Consultant maps to PFL_CONSULTANT, Solution to PFL_SAPSOLUTIONS. The third table PFL_CONS_SOL_MAP is the help table used for the relationship (having two fields, which are in fact foreign keys from the other two tables to express the assignment of solutions to consultants (where a consultant can have one or more solutions).
    ps. : I am running Netweaver Developer Workplace (Netweaver 2004, at stack level 5)

    Hm, after disabling 'automatic locking' it works.

  • [ADF] Adding/deleting entries in a many-to-many relationship

    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3 and the ADF BC / ADF Model / ADF Faces / JSF technology stack.
    For this question, I am using the SRDemo application as an example, specifically the many-to-many relationship between USERS and PRODUCTS (the Staff Expertise relationship), outlined in red in this schema diagram: Image Link
    Users may have any number of product expertise areas and many users may have the same product expertise area. For the purposes of this example I have added two reference fields from the PRODUCT table into the ExpertiseAreas VO (Name and Description), outlined in red in this data control palette section: Image Link
    I have created a page which shows the details of a user (1), along with a table showing the expertise areas the user has (3), and a table of all the products available (2), numbered on this design page: Image Link and corresponding to the numbered data controls on this data control palette section: Image Link, where 1 is rendered as an ADF Read-only Form, 2 is an ADF Read-only Table with a tableSelectMany element in the selection facet, and 3 is also an ADF Read-only Table.
    What I am trying to do is have the tableSelectMany element reflect which of the products are linked to the current user in the expertise areas relationship (by having the checkbox for currently linked products checked), and when you check or uncheck a product's checkbox, it should add or remove the row in the EXPERTISE_AREAS intersection table, respectively (asume for this example that there are default values for Expertise Level and Notes).
    So far I have been following the process used in section 19.8 of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers, which describes how to set up a selectManyShuttle which implements the adding and deleting functionality. So I have a Client Interface method in the Application Module, updateSkillsForCurrentStaff (described in section 10.6.7.2), and I have a selection listener for the assignment table in the backing bean for the page, which calls the updateSkillsForCurrentStaff method:
    public void selectionChanged(SelectionEvent event)
      BindingContainer bc = getBindings();
      DCIteratorBinding productsIB = (DCIteratorBinding)bc.get("ProductListIterator");
      Set keys = getTable1().getSelectionState().getKeySet();
      Iterator iter = keys.iterator();
      List productIds = new Vector();
      while (iter.hasNext())
        String product = ((Key)iter.next()).toStringFormat(true);
        productsIB.setCurrentRowWithKey(product);
        ViewRowImpl productRow = (ViewRowImpl)productsIB.getCurrentRow();
        Number productId = (Number)productRow.getAttribute("Id");
        productIds.add(productId);
      OperationBinding ob = bc.getOperationBinding("updateSkillsForCurrentStaff");
      Map pm = ob.getParamsMap();
      pm.put("productIds", productIds);
      ob.execute();
    All of this works, but I can't work out how to link the selection state of the assignment table to the expertise areas that are linked to the user. Also I think the method listing above must be a bit of a hack, but I don't know enough about this to know if there's an easier way of doing it.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Have a look at this example I cooked up for you.

    It might not be the first way one thinks to implement something, but it illustrates a very interesting, model-centric approach to the problem you propose.
    My feelings won't be hurt if you prefer a more view-centric approach, but I wanted to illustrate what was a maximally-model-centric solution (in fact, which doesn't even require a backing bean!) If you like a more view-centric approach, I can help you figure out what's wrong with your key-handling above. For one, I would probably start by passing the Set of Key's directly to the middle tier application module method to eliminate client-side code.
    Check it out and let me know what you think. Try it directly in the Business Components Tester to appreciate one of the benefits a model-centric solution can bring.

  • Many to Many relationship betwee dimension and fact tanle

    Hello Gurus,
    I have a little question about many to many realtionship between fact and dimension table. The situation is as follows.
    Consider there is a fact table F1 and two dimension tables D1 and D2. D1 is joined to F1 with 1 to many relationship. D1 is joined to D2 with again one to many relationship ( Note: D1:D2 = 1:N and D1:F1 = 1:N). I am able to model this by merging D1 and D2 into one dimension table in BMM layer by adding them as logical table sources and creating logical table source join. I have built simple reports and the data returnned is fine. However, I would just like to know what could be the drawbacks of such a model.
    We have many other dimesions joined to the fact table and users have access to the answers that means they would could what ever report they feel like. Hence, would just like to know in what cases this model could break which means reports would give wrong data because of a many to many relationship between one of the fact and dimension table.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Copter,
    Even I had modeled it by reading this link before. In the situation explained by me dimension D1 is doing the job of table Rules ( as explained in link). The model is fine.
    However, my point is to undersatnd in which scenerios this model will break. As already explained, the fact table is joined to various other dimensions, there could be situations in which users select columns from various dimensions and facts randomly.
    Hence, which are the scenerios where I might get erroneous counts of meassures. Further, if someone feels this model is correct and would not break in any scenerio then please reply.

  • Inserting with many to many relationship

    db and dev 10g rel2 ,
    hi all ,
    an application for a laboratory ,( patients and tests)
    i think the relation here is (many to many) , because each patient can have multiple tests, and each test can
    have multiple patients .
    what tables should i create ?
    and finally i should have a block to insert data for patients , and it should have
    the name of the patient and the test he is doing .
    so what tables should i create , and the block for the data entry will be based on which table ? or tables ?
    thanks a lot

    Hi
    First i do strongly recommend collecting reports & forms papers which r filled out by Mrs employees & patients then u stay to decide by ur pen & formalize what r the data required & what type of relationship need to be contracted from scratch off course many modifications Will occure by it Will be easier to modify on papers.
    Then my guess is u.Will need tables for employees , Patients ,Labs & Analysis Types
    Employees & Patients fields in a table r common in ;name, id,address,birthday or age ,
    etc.
    Labs table is needed if only u have many labs types ...
    Analysis Types table is listing...
    Analysis_id , Analysis_name& comments if any...
    Actual_Analysis table which Will have many pk is from all previous tables e.g.
    employees_id,Analysis_id, Patient_id,Lab no
    ,Analysis_date,Delivery_date,
    Analysis time , Delivery or due time.
    Status +-- A flag Which indicates ethe delivery status done or not
    Deposit
    way payment -- can have a table for it.
    total cost
    taxes
    etc.
    --========
    All payments affairs could have a table or more for it
    hope it.helps as a start.

  • Self referencing table many to many relationship

    I am in a bit of a logic pickle, and I was wondering if someone could help me out.
    I have a table in a database I am designing called document, it holds information on surprisingly on documents in our DMS.
    I want to create the notion that a document can have multiple related documents, and those documents can be the related documents for many documents.
    So it is a self referencing table, I have done these before so no big deal, but this time is a many to many relation, it wasnt before.
    Maybe something like:
    document
    docid (pk)
    related_doc
    docid (pk) (fk to document.docid)
    related_docid (pk) fk to document.docid)
    Does anyone have any experience with this or any advise I might find sueful?
    Thanks!

    A junction table can be used to resolve a many-to-many relationship as is in your example. There are two PK/FK relationships between document and related_document table. This will prevent denormalization of data.
    The other option could be to have just one table with two columns (parent_doc_id and child_doc_id) and have a PK constraint on both the columns - just like bill-of-materials.
    But I think the approach you have in your posting will work well.

  • Representing many-to-many relationships

    The data structure I am working with is a many-to-many relationship between clients and contacts, managed by a client_contact intersection table
    I have been rather unsuccessfully trying to use the JHeadstart generator to generate a master-detail style relationship between clients and contacts. The new intersection shuttle is great for being able to be maintain the intersection table and have that working fine but I would also like to set up a master-detail group
    I have created a ContactsForClient view that combines the Contacts and Client_contacts entities with a bind parameter of client id and created a view link between clients VO and the ContactsForClient VO. Setting this up in the JHeadstart generator works fine for displaying and modifying the associated contacts - but adding new contacts is where the problem lies. The ContactsForClient group uses a table structure with empty rows at the bottom for inserting new contacts. I am unsure of how to be able to manage the client_contact instersection table in behind the scenes. The ClientContactsImpl fires first - at which stage I only have client id and not the contact id. I want to be able to force the ContactsImpl to run first and retrieve the DB Sequence that was used to populate the contact id on the contacts table, using that to populate the client-contacts table.
    I saw some code to force a new dept to be posted before the emp record and thought I could utilise that but it does not work
      public void postChanges(TransactionEvent e) {
        System.out.println("In postChanges");
        if (getPostState() == STATUS_NEW)
          System.out.println("Status is new");
          ContactsImpl newContact = getContacts();
          if (newContact != null) {
            System.out.println("newContact not null");
            if (newContact.getPostState() == STATUS_NEW) {
              newContact.postChanges(e);
              // retrieve DB sequence used to populate contacts ct_id
              // and use to set clientcontacts ct_id
              System.out.println("newContact changes posted");
        super.postChanges(e);
      }newContact is always null ! I realise I could create separate screens to create the contacts and then the intersection-shuttle to assign them to a client but is there anyway I can do this in a way that mimics normal master-detail JHeadstart functionality ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated !

    Managed to get my problem solved - I was over-complicating things ! I did however run into the reason (after a substantial process of elimination) why the postchanges method was not working as expected.
      public void postChanges(TransactionEvent e) {
        if ((getPostState() == STATUS_NEW) || (getPostState() == STATUS_MODIFIED)) {
          EntityImpl gio = getGoodsInOut();
          if (gio != null) {
            if (gio.getPostState() == STATUS_NEW) {
              gio.postChanges(e);
        super.postChanges(e);
      }My master EO is GoodsInOut and my detail EO is product. When I was running this code from the ProductsImpl, the getGoodsInOut() was always returning a null value and therefore I was unable to force the posting of the master before the detail. The problem turned out to be a "before insert for each row" trigger on the GoodsInOut table. This trigger was just setting the sequence but for some reason, after firing, causes the relationship between the GoodsInOut master and the Products detail to be lost, with getGoodsInOut() returning null. As soon as I dropped the database trigger and set the sequence in the EO's create method - it worked fine. I realise this is a "JDeveloper" question rather than a "JHeadstart" question so I will post this on the JDeveloper forum as well but thought you may have some ideas on why the database trigger is causing that behaviour and also how I can still retrieve the GoodsInOut EntityImpl with a database trigger (want this for auditing purposes) - perhaps make the call to getGoodsInOut at an earlier stage in the processing (ie before the database trigger runs) ?
    Cheers,
