Creating Desktop shortut in Windows from Java

Does any one have any idea about Creating Desktop shortut in Windows from Java.

You need to use the COM interface IShellLink (sorry). See the following link for details: http://myfileformats.com/search.php?name=lnk. You could write a native method that encapsulates the calls or possibly use a Java/COM bridge. As an alternative, you could use something like InstallAnywhere. Perhaps you could also have a look at jEdit or another open-source project that creates shortcuts as part of its install (as well as shell extensions).
Good luck.

  • Creating a popup browser window from an applet

    Hi, in a java applet that I am developing i use AppletContext.showDocument to load a web-page. The thing is i want this window to be a popup, devoid of toolbar and statusbar, etc. do you have any idea on how i could accomplish this?
    I tried to do it with javascript, but i could only create new pop-up child windows of the html file that contained the method for opening pop-ups, i could not change the parent window itself to become a popup.
    If you have any idea on how to either create a pop-up type window from an applet, or make the current window into a popup i would be grateful to hear it.

    The only way I can think of is to use JSObject to call JavaScript on the current page & have JavaScript do a window.open

  • Creating win 32 exe files from java class files

    Hi I am using windows 2000.
    I have developed a java swing gui application that has about 10 class files. I downloaded the microsoft sdk for java 4.0 for converting all my class files into a single .exe file. I used jexegen in this SDK to do this process. But when I double click the exe file, it just pops up and closes instantenously without showing my startup frame.
    Can anyone help ?

    There is no Microsoft solution for this until you get J#, change your program
    (J# is a little bit different that java but not much, it's closer to Java than C#)
    and then compile to Win32 .exe.
    For the refrence list of all Java to Native code compilers, check this page:
    http://www.geocities.com/marcoschmidt.geo/jcomp.html#native :
    Different from "normal" compilers (like javac or jikes), native compilers do not create bytecode files
    (.class) that are interpreted by a Java Virtual Machine but native executables (like .exe files on
    Windows). "How do I create an EXE from Java?" is a very frequently asked question in newsgroups
    like comp.lang.java.programmer, native compilers are the answer. Some native compilers are listed
    below, check them out.

  • Create Opportunity Header api calling from java

    Hi,
    I need to call the Create Opportunity Header api from java but from looking at the spec this is going to be impossible without wrapping the API in some more PLSQL so that it is exposed using SQL types rather than PLSQL types which are not supported in JDBC.
    Is this correct? Are there other approaches which you can suggest.

  • Possible to create desktop shortuts in a computer lab environment?

    Is there anyway to create shortcuts to different webpages on a desktop in a computer lab environment where any time a person logs on, the shortut is on their desktop? There are way to many users to try to set this up on every persons profile so, this needs to show up on the desktop reguardless of who logs on.

  • Opening  browser window from Java Swing

    Hi
    I am trying to open
    1) a word document on the click of a button from a Java-Swing based application running only on windows based system.
    Currently the code uses 'rundll' and calls 'a.doc'
    it requires that the application be installed and run only from a specific location in the windows' system.
    i would like to modify the code in one of the following ways
    1) open the word doc irrespective of its location and that of the executable jar which is trying to open this file
    2) upload the word document to a website and direct the application to open that webpage on button click, etc
    i believe that the latter may be simple but i do not have any idea about how to go about it
    i would appreciate some guidance about it.

  • Firefox does not open pop-up windows from java script even if blocking pop-up is disabled for those sites

    I need to use pop-up windows for some e-mail sites which use java, but firefox doesn't do anything, even if i allowed pop-ups for those sites or disable completely

    If the settings in Firefox are correct then make sure that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) isn't blocking pop-ups, some have advanced features that include blocking pop-ups.
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Creating a pop up window from a link

    I was wondering if someone could help me. I'm building a new

    their site. Basically what I would like to do is when I click on a
    link in my page a pop up or a window opens, NOT A BROWSER, a stand
    alone window appears on top of the page where the link was clicked.
    When this window opens the page behinds dims to highlight this
    window. Then inside this window images or video could be placed.
    Apple also has this on their site where when you click on an image
    of one of their computers a window opens to reveal a bigger image.
    Their window also gives off a drop shadow on the page behind which
    is nice. I am not much of a coder so any help would be much
    appreciated. Another thing, would it be possible in this pop up
    window to say if you wanted to view images that at the bottom of
    this window was a slider with images and the main image above this
    and as you click on the images in the slider they fade in above but
    full size?

    you can do that with exec() in Runtime.
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = rt.exec(command here);but before you do that you need to read this:

  • Close parent window of Mozilla browser from Java

    Hi All,
    I want to open a URL in a controlled browser from java stand alone application. I was able to do this in Netscape of UNIX OS. The method followed is given below.
    1. Launch a temporary HTML file which contains Javascript (to launch the URL in a controlled window). This is done using --- Runtime.getRuntime().exec() method.
    2. Close the parent HTML file on 'onLoad' using Javascript. (self.close).
    [ I tried window.close() & top.close() also.]
    Now I need to support the same for "Mozilla" also. But mozilla just ignores the close() command of Javascript.
    1. Is there any alternative way to close the parent window in Mozilla browser ?
    2. Is there any way to close the parent window from java by using 'Process' class/ threads/ ??
    3. Any other way???
    Note : I am using the intermediate window for using Javascript. (controlling the browser properties). Since Java cannot communicate to Javascript directly, I am forced to have such an intermediate HTML file.
    Thanks in advance.
    surekha_Venugopal.

    Some more details :
    Mozilla browser will close a window using window.close() command, but only if the window is opened by the script. If not it will not close it.
    Here, I am opening the window from Java application. That is why closure of the window is failing.
    Trying to find a solution.

  • How to modify an existing xml file from java code.

    Hi
    I have worked on creating a new xml file from java code using xmlbeans.But if i try to modify an already existing file using java code I am unable to get errorfree xmlfile.
    For example if xml file(studlist.xml) is as below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <StudentList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="D:\kchaitanya\xmlprac1\abc\Studlist.xsd">
         <Student>
              <Name>ram</Name>
              <Age>27</Age>
         </Student>
    <Student>
              <Name>sham</Name>
              <Age>26</Age>
         </Student>
    </StudentList>
    Now suppose i have set name to victor using student.setName,
    and set age to 20 using setAge from javacode,
    the new xml file is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <StudentList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="D:\kchaitanya\xmlprac1\abc\Studlist.xsd">
         <Student>
              <Name>ram</Name>
              <Age>27</Age>
         </Student>
    <Student>
              <Name>sham</Name>
              <Age>26</Age>
         </Student>
    </StudentList>
    <Student>
              <Name>victor</Name>
              <Age>20</Age>
         </Student>
    As observed this is not a valid xml file.But how can i modify without any errors?

    I know it's an old post, but I found this while doing a google search for something else, and don't like to leave it un-aswered
    Just in case anyone has a similar problem... In this case the new elements have been appended outside of the root element
    What you need to do is first get the root element and then append the new children to that, there are several ways of getting the root element, which depend on what you want to do with the elements you get back here's a simple (incomplete) way.
    // gets the root element of the specified file (code not shown)
    Element rootElement= new SAXReader().read(file).getRootElement();Then just append the new elements as below (this is non-generic code and would need to be modified for your situation)
    // write a new student element
    Element student = document.createElement("Student");  // creates the new student
    rootElement.appendChild(student); // ***appends it to the root element***
    Element name = document.createElement("Name"); // creates the name element
    name.appendChild(document.createTextNode("Fred")); // adds the name text to the name element
    student.appendChild(name); // appends the name to the student
    Element age= document.createElement("Age"); // creates the age element
    age.appendChild(document.createTextNode("26")); // adds the age text to the age element
    student.appendChild(age); // appends the name to the studentThen flush ya buffers or whatever and write the file

  • Problem while running dos command from java program

    Dear friends,
    I need to terminate a running jar file from my java program which is running in the windows os.
    For that i have an dos command to find process id of java program and kill by using tskill command.
    Command to find process id is,
    wmic /output:ProcessList.txt process where "name='java.exe'" get commandline,processid
    This command gives the ProcessList.txt file and it contains the processid. I have to read this file to find the processid.
    when i execute this command in dos prompt, it gives the processid in the ProcessList.txt file. But when i execute the same command in java program it keeps running mode only.
    Code to run this command is,
    public class KillProcess {
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              KillProcess kProcess = new KillProcess();
              kProcess.getRunningProcess();
              kProcess = new KillProcess();
              kProcess.readProcessFile();
         public void getRunningProcess() {
              String cmd = "wmic /output:ProcessList.txt process where \"name='java.exe'\" get commandline,processid";
              try {
                   Runtime run = Runtime.getRuntime();
                   Process process = run.exec(cmd);
                   int i = process.waitFor();
                   String s = null;
                   if(i==0) {
                        BufferedReader stdInput = new BufferedReader(new
                               InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));
                        while ((s = stdInput.readLine()) != null) {
                         System.out.println("--> "+s);
                   } else {
                        BufferedReader stdError = new BufferedReader(new
                               InputStreamReader(process.getErrorStream()));
                        while ((s = stdError.readLine()) != null) {
                         System.out.println("====> "+ s);
                   System.out.println("Running process End....");
              } catch(Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public String readProcessFile() {
              System.out.println("Read Process File...");
              File file = null;
              FileInputStream fis = null;
              BufferedReader br = null;
              String pixieLoc = "";
              try {
                   file = new File("ProcessList.txt");
                   if (file.exists() && file.length() > 0) {
                        fis = new FileInputStream(file);
                        br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fis, "UTF-16"));
                        String line;
                        while((line = br.readLine()) != null)  {
                             System.out.println(line);
                   } else {
                        System.out.println("No such file");
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              return pixieLoc;
    }     when i remove the process.waitFor(), then while reading the ProcessList.txt file, it says "No such file".
    if i give process.waitFor(), then it's in running mode and program is not completed.
    Colud anyone please tell me how to handle this situation?
    or Is there anyother way to kill the one running process in windows from java program?
    Thanks in advance,
