Creating field name programmatically

HI,
I am trying to create a Note field programmatically. I have used the below code:
string fieldtestComments = list.Fields.Add("InserttesterAdjustersCommentsHere", SPFieldType.Note, false);
list.Fields[fieldtestComments].Update();
However, the field name is only taking till "InserttesterAdjustersCommentsHer". Only 32 characters are getting taken. However, I am able to create the same column from UI as "InserttesterAdjustersCommentsHere".
How to fix this?

Hi,
There will be a length limit in field internal name convention which is 32, even from UI, the limit is still there.
When we create a column from UI, what we will input in the “Column name” text box is the display name of this field, its internal name will be truncated automatically
if there are more than 32 characters.
To find the internal name a field, you can go to “List Settings” page, in the “Columns” group, click a column name and redirect to
the “Edit Column” page, there, you will find the internal name of a field at the end of the URL in the address bar like “xxx$Field=internal name here”.
So it is better to set up a field name short and meaningful.

Dynamic creating field names within Loop

Hi,
I've a record which comprises of a few key fields and then 52 qty fields, one for each week of the year. ( Not my design honest!!).
Anyway with in a Cursor there are currently 52 "IF" statements clearing out values less than the current week number. I'd tried to replace this with the following. However I'm having trouble with the " 'c1_rec.qty'| |lv_count " bit.
Has anyone got any ideas?

If I understand the question correctly, you have a table with 52 columns, one for each week of the year. You are trying to zero the quantity for each week prior to the current week. I'm going to take a sab at this. Bear in mind that I have no way to debug the code.

Removing spaces from field names?

Hi. I'm using Acrobat 9.3.3.
I use the Form Wizard to create... forms. And a lot of these forms I need to have it do some math calculations -- sums, products, etc. But when I use the Wizard, it auto-creates field names with spaces in them. And (I don't know if this is normal), when I create formulas, notations, scripts, if it's trying to pull from a field with a space in the name it doesn't work.
I have to go in and manually take out the spaces from all the field names... and there can be a lot of fields!
Is there some process I'm not seeing, or some way to configure the Wizard, to remove/prevent spaces in the field names?

Accessing dynamically created fields

Hi,
I have a html that has an input field on it. Say we enter a number( e.g. 5) and submit the html.
The html transfers control to 1. jsp which creates input fields based on the number entered. In the above example 5 input(text) fields are created dynamically.
Once I submit 1.jsp, it transfers control to another 2.jsp.
In 2.jsp, I need to access the values entered in the 5 fields on 1.jsp.
request.getparameter() returns value only from the 1st field (out of the 5 fields). How to access the remaining fields ?

Even the ordering seem to be ok.
With your other suggestion, I had tried that before but that did not work.
I created field names as field1,field2..etc on the fly and stored this in a String variable - fileName.
<% fileName = fileName concatinated with number %>
<input type = "text" name=fileName > Note: There are no quotes around fileName. So fileName could be fileName1, fileName2 etc
(I don't think the quotes around name attribute really matters.)
When I say request.getparameter("fileName") it returned only the 1st fileName. Let me know what youythink.

Creating a view on KONA & KONH - Failed with 'Field name DATAB not unique'

    I am creating a view on KONA (Rebate Agreement) & KONH (Conditions Header) tables. The link is KONA-KNUMA = KONH-KNUMA_AG.
   The field 'DATAB' exists in both tables and I have included those two fields under 'View Fields' . When I tried to activate the View, it fails with 'Field name DATAB not unique'.
   The following is the complete error message:
Message no. MC060
Diagnosis
When you define aggregates (views, lock objects or matchcode objects), you can assign the aggregate fields your own names (the system assigns names to the basic fields automatically). These names must be unique.
System response
The system has established that the names assigned to the aggregate fields in an aggregate definition are not unique and issues an error message.
Procedure
Assign unique names to the aggregate fields in question.
   Why I am not able to create the view after including a field that EXISTS in two tables, PLEASE ?

Hi,
you can include both fields (but what for??); most likely KNUMH will also complain after fixing DATAB (just a guess...).
You can include both fields if you name them differently (different aliases):
In the view fields tab, enter two different names in the column "view field".
this will work.

How to dynamicly create a field name AND access it

All,
I am trying to build a code block that will access what amounts to a table structure inside a table. I have 38 occurances if a set of 3 fields. (Source system had an internal array/occurs clause that was converted for our ODS into individual fields) I am returning a single row as a row type and have addressability to all fields. What I am trying to avoid is coding my logic block 38 times, 1 for each occurance.

What do I need to do to gain accessability via this method?
I do have the ability to select the column names from the system tables but even then, I am lacking addressability to my ROW type using the selected field name.

Method t create dynamic structure if the field name contains space

HI all,
I am creating a dynamic internal table. Everything id fine but when creating dynamic structure if field name contains space its giving me dump.Can you please suggest me any other methos which takes space in the field name.
Iam using the following method:
gr_struct_typ ?= cl_abap_structdescr=>create( p_components = gt_component ).
In the gt_component i have one of the field with space like ( RU STAND) and its giving error.
Any help will be appreciated.

If the space in the fieldname is a mistake then you could simply use:
CONDENSE ld_fieldname NO-GAPS.
However, I guess your fieldname should contain this space:

Hi Pramod,
mostly we're using a common Term for the field name. The field code is the field name in uppercase using MDM_ as prefix. As you have to replace blanks (a field code does not allow blanks) we use an _ instead. Note: if you want to distinguish between SAP created and custom fields, we recommend using a different prefix! Maybe you can start your Custom field codes with ZMDM or a prefix describing your customer? Currently we cannot enforce this in MDM as the MDM_ prefix is not yet protected. But if you follow our recommendation, it'll ease up your life and of course ours, too, as we can differentiate between SAP and customer fields in OSS messages.
Edit: regarding descriptions
If your field is somehow linked with a ERP field, you could reuse the description of ERP for example!

If you click on "Layout" button, you will se the same shopping cart limit page. If you click on the desired fields, you can see their names, as below:

How to programmatically retrieve the real field name from a view object ?

when I map a business component (a database table) to a view, the fields are automatically converted by JDeveloper, for example, a field named 'user_id' in the oracle table definition, becomes 'userid' in the view.
The question: how can I retrieve the right table column name from within a backing bean ? Please explain also what should I bind and how; should I use an iterator ?
Another more: since we can change the label of a field on a view, how can then I get the mapping between the column name on the view and the column name on the table in the database ?

many thanks for your answer.
The rest of my question: you know we can drop a view from the DataControls onto a ADF page, with each field of the table having a label.
That label is initially set like the internal table field name, so for instance, if user_id is the real table field name, userid will be the (by JDeveloper) internal renamed table field name, and the label would be userid too.
If I then change the label text to, for example, "myUserid", the question is: how can I know which real table field does "myUserid" point to ?
In other words, when my form is submitted, I want to know which field name has been changed and prepare an update sql in a bean.
For this purpose I bind each view field to a validator function in the bean, and collect al the pairs "label_name + submitted value" in an hash table.
Now inorder to build up that update query, I need the mapping between the label_name ("myUserid") and the real table field name ("user_id"). The question: how to map the label to the real table field name ?
By the way, I'm using JDeveloper 11g rel. 2.

Change All Field Names in a Table to have a Lowercase First Letter

I have an SQL database with many tables. All of the field names in each table start with an Uppercase letter. I would like to programmatically change all of the field names in each table to start with a lowercase letter. Can this be done?
E.g.: "FieldName" to "fieldname"

O.K. Just in case anyone else runs into this, I used Carl's answer to guide me in the right direction. This is my final code that created the commands I needed to run a batch (where TMaster is my schema name and the WHERE statement contains

i am retrieving my field names from the database and i view it thru HTML.
When i view it,the column names are those which are given while creating tables.

why not use alias:
your query is
SELECT fname, lname, gender, email
and will be:
SELECT fname FIRSTNAME, lname LASTNAME, gender GENDER, email EMAILADDRESS

How to find the field name of variable system information on SAP B1

Hi All,
I recently wanted to create a simple SQL query to list all ITEM MASTER DATE where the weight is blank. This is so i can get a list of all items with the weight information missing from the system to investigate.
It turns out the weight field within the SALES DATA tab is a system variable. When i pull the OITM table up within the query generator i can not identify where this variable name come up without guessing which can give me the wrong information.
Can someone point me into the direction on how to assisocate variable to a field name within SAP B1. This is also another problem if i wanted to display variable within Crystal report layout.
