Creating graphs in illustrator - from Excel

Currently we're having issues with building graphs in Illustrator CS4. We drag the Excel graph from Excel to illustrator then recreate the graph ie click on the lines - make black, or another colour - fill bar graphs with other colours etc - Apple Mac 10.6.4  the programme keep crashing

Try printing to a PDF and openeing that in Illustrator. You’ll still need to clean up the blacks, but the transfer should be less crash-prone.

How do you create a PDF document from excel???

    Hi Kwasi Debra,
You might need to sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials.
Then, select 'Create PDF' tab and click on 'Select PDF files to export' option.
Upload your excel file and it will get converted to PDF format within a couple of minutes.
Later, you can even download the converted file onto your system.
Please try in the same manner and check.

  • Using Acrobat X and creating a PDF File from EXCEL 2010, I notice that the Pagination restarts at 1 for each Worksheet included in the PDF.

I use Acrobat X Standard and created a PDF file from two or more worksheets using EXCEL 2010.
The resulting PDF file restarts the PAGE # (In header/footer settings of Excel) at 1 for each worksheet.
However, a colleague of mine who has Acrobat X Pro version, using EXCEL 2010 and same exact file does the same task, he gets a file that starts at page 1 and second worksheet continues the page # from the last page of the First worksheet.
We both are using the ACROBAT menu (not the print to Adobe printer) to create the file so that we can get Bookmarks included in the resulting file for each worksheet.
We cannot figure out any option in Acrobat's preferences that controls the pagination on either of these versions of Acrobat.
So is this just a feature that works one way in Standard version and another way in the Pro version, and the user has no control over it?

This is so sad. I read your comments and I said, "Huh?" Haha!
I tried the indexed color option and it did make the final file smaller. Around 600KB. But there's probably another way to make it even smaller like the gazillion-paged pdf file that I mentioned that was only about 300KB.
And by saying a layout program, does that mean like Adobe InDesign? Does that mean that I should just make my graphics in Photoshop and then import using another program and finish the file there?
What other layout programs can I use?
    Thank you so much!

  • Can  I create a data set from Excel spreadsheet?

I have been looking for help with Spry data sets. I want to know if I can create a data set directly from an spreadsheet or do I have to save it to a CSV  file first. I will be upgrading to DW CS4 shortly & trying to do my homework now.
Can someone point me to an article or video explaining how to do this? I have gone through various helps with HTML tables as data sets.
    Thanks.

    Yes, mostly.
We have a CSV data set, which is a comma-separated value file, which can easily be exported from Excel.

  • Create double sided PDF from Excel Worksheet

    Hello,
Under Vista with Excel and Acrobat 7 pro.
I have to send a PDF file to the printer but they want the job to be double-sided. From Excel, when converting to PDF, I get a one sided document.
Is there a way to create a double-sided PDF from Excel?
    Thanks,
    L.

I see what you are talking about now. What needs to be done is to go back to the Excel file and do it there with odd and even page formating. A PDF is simply a version of what would have been printed to paper. Acrobat is not an editor in which the margins can be easily adjusted. If you have only a few pages to do, you can use the object touchup tool to select every thing on a page and move it to the right (Edit>Select All will help and use the arrow keys to move). You might be able to move the whole document to the right, but I would have to play around to do that (don't see a way).
You may also be able to do the job with JavaScript, but in any case what you are asking is not a simple task that can be done with a trivial margin adjust. There is no such margin definition in a PDF.
You might find the use of the grid helpful in moving things so that they line up where you want.

  • Create PDF button gone from Excel worksheet

Recently had to restore computer back to factory. I installed full CS4 WebSuite which includes Acrobat. I used to have a PDF button in Excel that would let me create a PDF from an Excel worksheet. How do I get that back? I used to use Office 2003 and now I use Office 2013.
    Thanks so much in advance!

The store is at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide-upgrade-pricing.html. If you click the upgrade option, you will see the option to upgrade to AA XI from the AA X Suite (whatever that is, I assume CS) or from individual products. In your case it is not an individual product, but a suite. If you have questions or want to see if you can get a deal, you will have to call the Adobe sales folks. We can only repeat what we see and have heard from others (except for those folks who have the suite).
You can still print to the Adobe PDF printer from Excel 2013, if you can get AA9 to work on Win8 (an outside chance, but may require some workarounds). You would just not get links or bookmarks. You might see if there is a MS plugin for creating PDFs from Excel. If there is, you might be able to create the PDFs that way and edit in Acrobat 9.

  • I find the Word (Office 4 Mac 2011) seriously flawed in creating labels in WORD from Excel database; any comments?

I have used the "mailmerge" functions in Snow Leopard with Office 2004 on many previous situations.
With Mountain Lion and Office 2011, I am not finding success in using "mailmerge" to create labels using WORD and an Excel database.
All is well until Mail Merge Manager asks:
              get Recit List
              Convert file from .......
"choose Excel Wowrkbook"     (I have chosen each of the listed choices with same result)
ALERT  reads  Excel Workbook text converter     check OK if from trusted source
ALERT  reads  There was an error opening the file.
I have checked with the Microsoft online instructions and followed them to the "letter";  with the same disappointing results.

I have always exported the addresses to a comma-delimited file first, then merged. That may be worth a try.

  • After installing Adobe Version X Pro, I still cannot "create" a PDF package from Excel since the Adobe add-in does not appear after installation.  Can someone provide their inputs?

I'm having issues with getting the Adobe add-in to appear after installing Adobe Version X.  Version XI works but it is not compatible with another software my company uses so we have to stick with Version X.  Please help.

Make sure your Acrobat X is up to date. 10.0 will not do this, 10.1 is supposed to. Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications

  • Acrobat X Pro - create PDF from Excel with no margins...ARGH!

    Hello all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to create a PDF from a selection of Excel cells without a margin appearing on the PDF file? Even if I set the print margins (print to Adobe PDF) to zero, Acrobat still puts in margins in the PDF. The background of the Excel file is black (as specified by my manager), and he wants black all the way to the edges of the PDF page.
I have to submit this weekly, and as it's several pages long I don't want to be faffing about with the crop tool each Monday morning (it already takes long enough to source the data). The current solution I have been given is to create a template in Powerpoint (HATE) and link the cells/graphs, but and paste any text boxes, and then convert from Powerpoint to PDF, as no margins are imposed this way.I know cropping would be quicker than this, but surely in this day and age it's easily possible and there's just some simple option I'm just missing?
    Regards,
    George

I have the same setup with Win 7 and Office 2010 and have created thousands of PDF from Excel sheets, but never noticed this particular issue.  Regardless, rather than fight an issue like this where no specific documentation exists, I usually resort to other options in the interest of not getting bogged down in a maddening search for answers.
Go ahead and convert to PDF so that your links are retained, etc.  Open the resulting file in Acrobat, and use the crop tool to remove the blank margins that are at issue, either maintaining proportionality or not, depending on your needs, making sure to set the cropping tool to apply the scheme to all pages.  I'm assuming that all pages are formatted the same, such that this strategy will work.  Then, apply the cropping, and sanitize the file to remove the cropping data.  At this point, your blank margins should be completely gone, and the file can be scaled for printing if that is your objective, but that will obviously introduce some white margins again at the printer.
The only other option I'm aware of to address this from the PDF side is via a third-party plug-in from Evermap called AutoPagex.  One of its features allows you to scale a document's content to the page margins, either maintaining proportionality or not.  Without proportionality, I was able to scale an Excel sheet with black background to all but a tiny sliver of the top and bottom margins in landscape orientation.  From here, I scaled the content via an additional feature to 100.5%, and all white margins were gone.  That said, it probably just as effective to accomplish this via the crop tool, assuming the page formatting remains consistent.
Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Chart text from Excel to illustrator cs6 not copying right

    Hi all
Im having a bit of a problem with the text from charts made in Excel 2008 (v.12) copy and pasted into Illustrator CS6
Once pasted into Illustrator it changes all the text pasted into numbers and punctuation marks
I cant see in the setting anything to change with fill handling etc to stop this happening
I need to paste these charts into Illustrator from excel to make them into into house styles etc as they are supplied to me and illustrator cant make up the charts I need.
Any ideas anyone as I dont want to have to retype the text on each chart if I can help it.
    Many thanks
    Paul

Hi guys, there are several way to approach the font change. The font is picked up from the default "Body Font" on the default "Office Theme" template when creating new documents.
to change the font to Arial or something else (using Windows), go to File->Options->General and choose your font under "When creating new Workbooks"
that would make "Arial" the default font when typing your data in new books, but when the chart is made, it will still have "Calibri" in it since we're using the default "Office Theme".
to change the font, go to "Page Layout" tab and in the "Themes Group", click on "Fonts" and at the bottom click on "Create New Theme Fonts"
change the Body Font to "Arial", give the Theme font a name and click Ok.
now all newly created books will show Arial, but the charts will still have the Calibri font since they depend on the "Office Theme" template, but now it will be easier to change the theme fonts to the Arial, by choosing the newly created theme, and the charts will pick up the fonts too.
it is possible to change the default "Office" theme to something else...but that's another tutorial.

    Abdul Raheem

    Hi Abdul,
have you tried to import the data via Import Data (System Administration --> Import and Export Tools --> Import Data).
Also did you use the correct template; to access the correct template, please follow these steps:
    Go to Import Data
    Insert a dummy .xls file
From the dropdown list, choose Materials
On the next screen, download the template.csv file
Populate the fields as required on that spreadsheet
    Repeat the import.
Hope this helps, if it solves your question, please mark this answer as solved.

  • Print setting changes from Excel to pdf

I am creating a pdf file from Excel.  When I produce the pdf file, the pdf does not retain the print settings as Excel.  When I open the pdf, it has changed to portrait.  I have hundreds of files that will need to be changed so just changing the print setting on each file is not an option.
    Please help!

    Hi Francois
I do not know transaction EFRM, but I know that to create a print form with SAP Interactive Forms (perhapos you are using a different forms tool?) you need to work in transaction SFP, where you manually migrate the form.
A couple of comments on migrating from Smart Forms to Interactive Forms.
How to do it is documented in the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/16/a369b1800e4bdda978ee0fe3b7bd2c/frameset.htm">SAP Help Portal</a>.
There is a migration wizard that assists you in migrating. It comes with recommended settings for those elements of a Smart Forms that migrate well (ABAP program nodes, for example, are not supported in the Adobe-based solution). See the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/3b/bb186ddb4441a7875a11d46ea6580d/content.htm">Notes</a>.
SAP-internal experience over the last three years has shown that in most cases migrating a Smart Form and then reworking the migrated form (which is usually necessary) takes more time and effort than analyzing the form carefully and then creating it from scratch in SFP. This is particularly the case when several business forms are in one Smart Form and output based on conditions. It is recommended to have one form template per business form.

  • Import Tcodes from Excel

    Hello,
I want to create a role with around 250 Tcodes...I have these Tcodes in an excel sheet...
Is it possible to upload these Tcodes in the system through PFCG...Assign Transaction and generate it...
    Thanks & Regards,
    RaHuL...

    Hi Rahul,
there is a possibility to upload a role menue. The required file format is txt.
There are special prerequisites for the content of that file.... Please have a
look at : [SAP Note 389675|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/389675]
So there is still a big effort necessary to create such a file from Excel....
Maybe SCAT would be the better possibility to upload the transactionlist.....????

  • Excel & ActiveX: Insert arbitrary columns from 2D array and create graph problems

    Hi there,
I want to insert data from either a 1D or 2D array from LabView into Excel and create graphs.
I used the information from the following example:
    http://www.ni.com/example/28934/en/
and was able to create a new Excel file (I'm using Excel 2010), writing data from an 1D array to a column in excel by creating a while loop and using the first element of the array to write it to a specific cell. I use the counter of the loop to write to the next cell when the loop starts over and always delete the first value, which I write to the cell, from the array until it is empty.
Now I also would like to write a 2D array - so the first column in Excel should be the first column from the array and so. Here I cannot use the loop counter directly as Excel only counts 1,2,... for the rows, but uses A,B,... to count columns. Also I do not know in advance how many columns my 2D array will contain, so creating a lookup table like (A means 1, B means 2,...) is not really an option (except there really is no other way). Is there a possibilty to convert numbers into letters or some way to 'explain' to the program that column 2 in the array means column B in Excel for example, or is there a way to insert new columns?
I figured out how to add new Worksheets and as I also need to create a certain number of Worksheets and I know that on standard 3 sheets are present when creating the file, I use the 'add' methode to create every new worksheets before worksheet 3 - I could use the same methode to create new columns in Excel, but so far I didn't find a methode to do so. Or is there a way to enter the whole 2D array at once?
Then I'd like to create a graph (in case of the 1D arrays a bar plot, when using 2D arrays a 3D plot) to view the data. I found this example:
    http://www.ni.com/newsletter/51339/en/
-> as I do not have the toolkit I'd like to do it using ActiveX directly, so I tried to do things like shown under the headline 'DIY ActiveX/.NET'
I tried to load the snippet to a new Excel file but got the error message 'microsoft.office.interop.excel.dll not found' and hence the code is not working. That confuses me a little as I would guess when this dll is not present I cannot access Excel from LabView at all, though my understanding of what I'm really doing so far is quiet limited. ;-)
Also - as far as I understand from the snippet - when creating a new chart object I should be able the create methodes for it, however when I do a right click on the chart object of an ActiveX Worksheet symbol there are none listed.
To explain my problems better I added a snippet showing my two problems: The inner of the two while loops shows how I import a 1D array. In the outer loop I seperate the columns. I know that currently this is not working as all data end up in column A of the Excel sheet - so I would need to convert the number of the outer counter to A, B,... or find a different solution.
Moreover on the snippet I placed an ActiveX Worksheet Property with the Chart Object - as I can see the difference to the Chart Object in the example code from the last link above is the color. However I'm not sure what that means and how to change/ solve this.
And just to make sure - I know this way the VI does not run as the Chart Object is placed completely wrong - I just did it, so it is included in the snippet.
I'd be thankful for any suggestions,
    Thanks!

Hello everyone and thanks for the answers.
I only have the LabView Student Edition available here - is the toolkit included in it too. How can I check if it is installed/ available and in case it is installed - where can I find it?
Today I had time to take a look at the example
Create via ActiveX Labview a XY Scatter plot graph on an excel sheet
It almost does what I want in terms of creating a graph. The only problem I could not fix, is that in this example a sheet is created where only the graph is present. i'd like to add the graph to a previously created worksheet. Today I tried get this working but it seems I stilll don't really understand what I'm doing, I'll post a snippet of my code as soon as I can access the PC with LabView on it again.
I also took a look at the other example for inserting 2D attays - it seems to be what I need, I just had no time so far to test it, I'll post an update when I could test it.
Thanks for the help so far!

  • Why do I get jumbled text when pasting a graph from Excel (mac 2011) into Illustrator cs6

The Goal: To copy a graph from Excel (mac 2011) and paste it into Illustrator cs6 as a vector graphic.
The graph's vector and layout is okay. Yet, the text / copy is jumbled text:
    $%"
    $#!!!!"
Do I have to change a preference in either Excel or Illustrator?
    Thank you!

In Excel, right click and choose Format Chart Area. In the dialog at the left, choose Fonts. Change the font to Arial or something other than Calibri (Theme Body). Then copy/paste.
