Creating LOV

Hello:
I need help in creating a select list which will display the results of the following query:
SELECT S.DOC_NAME, O.VERSION_NO
FROM SUPPORTING_DOCS S,
     ORG_DOC_CURR_VER O,
     HISA_AGREEMENTS H
WHERE
       S.DOC_TYPE = `HISA¿
    AND S.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY = O.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY
   AND H.ORG_KEY_LE = O.ORG_KEY;When I try to create the LOV, I receive this message:
1 error has occurred
LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query.
I have no idea what to do this with this error message. Can someone help?
Thank you so much.

Hi,
Yes, removing the semi-colon did work. When I ran the application to view the select list box, I noticed that I needed to include the version number of the document. I modified my query to concatenate the document name with the version and when I clicked to Apply Changes; I received the same error message.
My query now looks like this:
SELECT S.DOC_NAME||' - '|| O.VERSION_NO as doc display_value, O.VERSION_NO return_value
FROM SUPPORTING_DOCS S,
     ORG_DOC_CURR_VER O,
     HISA_AGREEMENTS H
WHERE
       S.DOC_TYPE='HISA'
    AND S.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY = O.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY
   AND H.ORG_KEY_LE = O.ORG_KEY

  • Create LOV's for all columns at the time of folder creation

    Hi,
    I know we can automatically create the LOV's for all the columns of a database table when creating the folder in the EUL. Is this a good practice or should I create LOV's on demand? What is the disadvantage of creating more LOV's than needs to be used other than the disk storage? I also know it is not a good idea to have an LOV on a field that has a lot of values. I am tempted not to create the LOV's in the beginning, but then it becomes a high maintenance issue if I have to come back and create many LOV's later. Thank you for your input.

    Yes, it is not a good idea to create LOVs for all the columns. LOVS should be created only for the columns where parameters will be used. More the number of LOVs, slower the response in opening up your Discoverer reports and if you are using Disco Viewer, the page might take a long time to open up and frustrate the users.
    Also it is a good practise to have LOVs defined on the lookup tables or where there are distinct values in the table and not from where these values are used in the table.

    I have checked Metalink but can't find this error there either. Based on examples on OTN I have tried to create the LOV window manually but it does not work as expected:
    1) The window is not empty when opened - i.e. data has been retrieved.
    2) The filtering does not work.
    3) The selected value does not update the Input Form.
    I have pasted the code below in case anyone can point me in the right direction to work around the Jdeveloper error. However, I think Jdeveloper should create the LOV window correctly.

    Thanks for the response. OK... This is the first day I have been able to get back to the problem.
    My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
    Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
    I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
    I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.
    Again thanks for taking the time to respond to this issue.

  • Error creating LOV in Business View Manager - cannot be based on current DF

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use Business View Manager for the first time.  I'm trying to create a dynamic, cascading prompt to be used by Crystal Reports.
    I've been able to create:
    - data connection
    - data foundation - simple one table
    - business elements - two columns from the table
    - business view
    - List of Values
    I am now trying to create a parameter in the Business Elements tool.  The parameter needs to be a Dynamic, Cascading parameter.
    When I try to save the new parameter, I get the follow error:
    The List of Values used by this parameter cannot be based on a Business View derived from the current Data Foundation or Business Element.
    HELP
    Thanks

    Hi Chris
    If you are trying to create a LOV and use that as a parameter, then you need to create LOV as Dynamic Cascading values. Once created then you can use that LOV in the Crystal Reports.
    This is the best way to get dynamic cascading prompts in Crystal reports.
    Please refer to Business View Admin guide for more information.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Steps to create LOV dynamically

    Hello All,
    I want to create LOV dynamically.in my Oracle Forms 6I
    Is there any code which can create LOV dynamically using coding.
    I can create Record group dynamically. but I want to create LOV dynamically not from object browser of Form Builder by pressing Add LOV option.
    Kindly help me.
    Thanks
    HARSH SHAH

    Forms does not have a Built-in for dynamically creating an LOV; these objects can only be created in the Forms Builder during design time.  You can, as numerous people have tried to demonstrate, change the Record Group an LOV uses dynamically.  Unless you are changing the Column Mapping Properties of the LOV, using different Record Groups to supply the data for an LOV should work for you.  If you need to change the Column Mapping Properties, then you will need to create multiple LOV objects with the different mapping you need and then assign the LOV to your Item dynamically.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig...

  • Creating LOV in Forms Personalization

    Hi Friends,
    I have the requirement to create LOV for the 'Description' field in Standard Form. That Description field doesn't have LOV. I want to create LOV for that field thru Forms personalisation. Is it possible. Pl. tell me the steps.
    I'm using 11.5.10.2.
    Thanks

    You cannot use Forms Personalization to create a new LOV (you can use Forms Personalization to change what the form run). This is already explained in (Limitations of Forms Personalization [ID 420518.1], Point #1).
    To create a new LOV, you will have to customize the form (pay attention to Oracle policy about customizing seeded forms/report) -- See the docs below for details.

    rg_id := Create_group('My_group');
    gc_id := add_group_column(rg_id,'emp_id',number_column);
    gc_id := add_group_column(rg_id,'ename',char_column,15);
    end if;
    v_rg_id := POPULATE_GROUP_WITH_QUERY('My_group','select t.employee_id,t.first_name from employee_mt t where t.employee_id in (103,104,106)');
    --tem_num :=populate_group(rg_id);
    v_lov := find_lov ('LOV_NAME');
    set_lov_property(v_lov,group_name,'My_group');
    set_item_property('VEH_SEARCH.TXT_VEH_CODE',lov_name,'lov');
    End;
    now i have problem...whether i create first a lov and record group at design time or not????
    if i create a lov and have the recordgroup column then what is the benefit of dynamically lov...???
    thanks

    Hi.
    It is possible with some restrictions. Let's say you agree there are max 5 columns in your LOV-s. That way you can easily create LOV to RG colums mapping (what Andreas pointed out).
    For example :
    1. in design time create RG with dummy columns (for example : c1, c2, c3, c4, c5)
    2. in design time create 1 LOV with 5 predefind columns (for example : c1, c2, c3, c4, c5)
    3. populate that record group with select (selecting 5 columns. If you do not have 5 columns in your table on which LOV is based just select dummy columns for the rest of the columns) aliasing them as c1, c2, c3, c4, c5 (same as in LOV from step 2)
    4. asign that RG to the LOV in step 1
    5. in LOV show just "non-dummy" rows form step 3
    The rest you already figured it out.
    The benefit of this approach is questionable as the same can be done creating more RG and LOV-s in design time. So I believe this is the matter of developer preferences. By the way the concept I described we use on daily bases dealing with LOV-s.
    Best regards.

  • Will possible to create lov,recordgroup on runtime?

    Hi all,
    Is it possible to create lov,recordgroup on runtime. If so, please explain step.
    Kanihs

    Documentation:
    Record Group Type Property
    Description
    +Specifies the type of record group, either Static or Query: Static Specifies that the record group is constructed of explicitly defined column names and column values.
    The values of a static record group are specified at design time and cannot be changed at runtime.
    Query Specifies that the record group is associated with a SELECT statement, and thus can be populated dynamically at runtime.
    When you select this option, enter the SELECT statement in the multi-line field provided, then choose Apply.+

  • Create LOVS in jsp with ViewObjects

    Hello,
    I want to create a jsp-page containing two LOV's (html-<selects>). The first LOV is based on a VO named COUNTRIES. The second LOV is based on a VO named COMPANIES. There's a View Link between the two VO's.
    I am using the BC4j-Tags from the Component Palette. What I have to do to synchronize the both LOV's. For example, if I select a country, only specific companies have to appear in the COMPANY LOV.
    Thanks for your help.
    Peter

    Within jsp pages it is not possible to have the comboboxes dynamically updated without intervention to either refresh the page with the new data or use java script.
    I had a similar problem which i resolved with java script :
    Interactive combo boxes on jsp

  • Unable to create LOV (Select List)

    As per the dev. guide, I am trying to create a Parameterized Report. When I tried the example given in the guide it works for the sample application. But when I try for my application (based on HR data) it does not work.
    The steps I am following are same as dev. guide.
    a) Create a New Page
    b) Create the Query Region
    Here I am giving the following query :
    Select e.first_name,e.last_name,e.salary,e.job_id,d.department_name
    from employees e, departments d
    where e.department_id = d.department_id
    and ( d.department_name = :P700_SHOW or :P700_SHOW = 'ALL' )
    c) Adding an Item
    But here when I select an Item as "Select List" and when I move to the page "Identify List of Values", here for the field Named LOV, it does not populate with any value, like it does for the sample application.
    Also if i try giving the above query in the text box (List of Values query), it does not allow me to move ahead and throws follo. error:
    " LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query."
    Can some help me on this? And also I am not able to understand, that for this exercise (parameterized report) why they have taken only sample application and not helped the dev. to create its own.

    Hi,
    You need to set up a "Named LOV" - go to Shared Components=>Lists of Values to create a LOV for the departments. This should be a "Dynamic" LOV, using the following SQL:
    select department_name d, department_id r
    from departments
    order by 1
    Give it a name like "DEPTS_LOV" and this will then be available for your select list.

  • Issue with programmatically created LOV on Advanced Search Screen in OCO.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to create a LOV programmatically on Advanced search screen of Oracle Customer's Online module for the country field present there, i have extended a controller and
    in it i am carrying out the creation for this.
    i am using the below code to do this.
    i am able to access the particular rowlayout bean and code below is starting after that.
    OARowLayoutBean CountryRowLayoutBean =
                            (OARowLayoutBean)RgtColTableLayoutBean.getIndexedChild(8);
                        if (pageContext.isLoggingEnabled(PROCEDURE))
                            pageContext.writeDiagnostics(this,
                                                         "CountryRowLayoutBean: " +
                                                         CountryRowLayoutBean,
                                                         PROCEDURE);
                        int CountryRowLytChldCount =
                            CountryRowLayoutBean.getIndexedChildCount();
                        if (pageContext.isLoggingEnabled(PROCEDURE))
                            pageContext.writeDiagnostics(this,
                                                         "CountryRowLytChldCount : " +
                                                         CountryRowLytChldCount,

                                                                 MatchRuleAttrId); //MatchRuleAttrId - the fields are rendered through DQM so, this is the Id for the text input , same is taken as id for LOV, to enable search later.

                        // Specify the path to the base page.
                        CountryLOV.setAttributeValue(REGION_CODE,
                                                        "/oracle/apps/imc/ocong/search/webui/ImcSearchPage");
                                  CountryLOV.setAttributeValue(LOV_REGION_APPLICATION_ID,

                                                         MatchRuleAttrId,

                        CountryLOV.addLovRelations(pageContext,
                                                      MatchRuleAttrId,
                                                      "TerritoryShortName",
                                                      LOV_RESULT,
                                                      LOV_REQUIRED_NO); // base page item
                        // lov item
                        // direction

                                                      LOV_CRITERIA,
                                                      LOV_REQUIRED_NO);
    I am facing the issue that the torch icon is visble on the screen but when i click on it, it does not display the LOV region and a blank page saying website declined to show the page is displayed.
    Please suggest what needs to be added that i am missing right now.
    Thanks,
    Mayank

    on the first option I mean you can add new region  programaticaly like this on Processrequest
                OAStackLayoutBean newLocationLovs=
                    (OAStackLayoutBean)createWebBean(pageContext
                                                        ,"/yandex/oracle/apps/csi/instance/location/webui/YaLocationLovsRN"
                                                        , "xxnewLocationLovs"
                                                        ,true);
                  webBean.addIndexedChild(newLocationLovs);
