Creating Master page for publishing site

Hi,
I am trying to create a master page for publishing site. I have downloaded the "StarterBranding - V1.3" from codeplex, and used the "Starter Publishing". Currently it is not showing logo, search box, top navigation, breadcrumbs.
I have an existing master page which has lot of tags, and I am not sure what they represent. The below code is after the script manager tag in the body section:
<SharePoint:AjaxDelta id="DeltaDelegateControls" runat="server">
<SharePoint:DelegateControl ID="DelegateControl2" runat="server" ControlId="GlobalNavigation" />
<SharePoint:DelegateControl ID="DelegateControl3" ControlId="GlobalSiteLink3" Scope="Farm" runat="server" Visible="false" />
</SharePoint:AjaxDelta>
<div id="TurnOnAccessibility" style="display:none" class="s4-notdlg noindex">
<a id="linkTurnOnAcc" href="#" class="ms-accessible ms-acc-button" onclick="SetIsAccessibilityFeatureEnabled(true);UpdateAccessibilityUI();document.getElementById('linkTurnOffAcc').focus();return false;">
<SharePoint:EncodedLiteral ID="EncodedLiteral1" runat="server" text="<%$Resources:wss,master_turnonaccessibility%>" EncodeMethod="HtmlEncode"/></a>
</div>

Are the above tags required in Master page? what is the use of it? I have more tags and will add after knowing the use of it in future threads.
Thanks

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know about the each tags useful in master page.
In SharePoint 2013 master page, there are some common tags like body tag, head tag and meta tag and some style CSS div tags. For the useful of these tags, I suggest you can refer the articles below:
Understanding HTML master pages in SharePoint 2013
In your custom master page, it will have some custom css tags depend on the display style but it is no required for master pages, if you want to know about what tags is required in master page, you can compare the custom master page with the  OOTB master
page.

    How to set custom master page for social/sites.aspx in sharepoint 2013.?

    Hi,
    You could open the sites.aspx in Notepad or SharePoint designer, and set the master page to your own master page directly via editing:
    <%@ Page language="C#" MasterPageFile="~masterurl/custom.master"      Inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.FollowedContentWebPartPage,Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal,Version=15.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"

  • Calendar view on page for Published site.

    I have a subsite, and I create a calendar for meetings, on a new page I added a web part to show the calendar (calendar view). when I logged on the site, each event has their one link to details, (disform.aspx?id= something)  but as soon I publish the
    page, and go and use the browser as anonymous (not logged), I can see the calendar but I don't have links to see the details of the event.
    I know this work because on the same site I have another subsite with another calendar and it is working just fine, i tried and I know I did it in another site, I just don't have links in this one.
    the collapse or add links show up and work fine, it is just the link to the events detail. Someone can help me?

    I did a test in my environment with anonymous access in the publish site and the event is in the calendar.
    For a better troubleshooting, I suggest you do as followings:
    1. Check the anonymous access in the site settings-> site permission->Anonymous Access->Entire Web Access.
    2. Check if you have deactived the feature “limited-access user permission lock down mode” feature in site collection feature.
    3. If the issue still exists, I suggest you recreate a calendar to test whether it works.

  • Can I send a book created with page for publishing?

    I want to create a book of family stories and end up with a hardcover (similar to what you can do with iphoto: however inserting text is very limited in iphoto)
    This book would be heavy on text ie., stories and augmented with photos.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    You need to print to or export to pdf, with some qualifications, pdfs from Pages may have issues with transparency and resolution.
    I don't know of any printers who use Pages as a core application, although in most cases it is the best method of output for Pages documents.
    Ask around for Printers who use Macs and who may have Pages installed. It is not expensive, so even if they don't have it, you could offer to pay them for the DL and install, as a practical measure. It would only be a relatively small percentage extra on a reasonal print run.

  • How to set master page for Wildcard inclusion Managed path in Sharepoint 2013

    I am using sharepoint 2013. I created mysite in root level for newsfeed. Also i included wildcard inclusion managed path named as
    my. If i am clicking newsfeed the page url is http://webapplication:port/
    if  i am clicking sites the page url is http://webapplication:port/my/CURRENTUSERNAME/Social/Sites.aspx#IsEditing_WPQ4=1.
    I can apply master page for newsfeed site using sharepoint designer. But i cant apply for
    my path.
    If am opening http://webapplication:port/my/vijay in designer i can change the master page. But my requirement is to apply master page for http://webapplication:port/my
    for all users have same master page.
    How to solve this . Thanks in advance.

    You need to update the mysitehost masterpage. all master pages are created as mysitehost template.
    Here is how you do it.
    Create a site collection with template as mysitehost
    Modify the mysitehost masterpage
    Once it is done, update the mysitehost in user profile service application

  • Using Adobe Muse to create master pages

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use Adobe Muse to create master pages for Sharepoint 2013?
    The Muse product creates the Javascript, css and html files, with the images etc.
    The Muse product looks ideal to create the master pages with no coding required.
    Nick

    For SharePoint 2013, yes you could absolutely use this tool to create your HTML (this post is in the 2010 forum, so just making sure).  In SP 2013 you can use the new Design Manager to upload HTML which then gets converted to a .NET Master Page.
    So long as Muse turns out valid HTML, you should not have an issue.

  • How do I create an underlying master page for my master pages (without messing them up)?

    I created a Muse site long ago, and wanted to fix my SEO easily overall by better analytics among other things.
    Perhaps I am doing this the wrong way but I was thinking I could create a master page that I could just drop the html I needed into, and thus not fuss too much with my other pages. The problem is I already have master pages that my site is based on (before you could do this), and it would be much easier to have those master pages stem from one source (a Master master page?).
    Everytime I try to do this it changes my current master and final pages. Anyway I can create and invisible master so this doesn't happen?
    What should I do instead?
    THANK YOU.
    William

    Thanks,
    Your intructions were my plan untill I realized that in doing so, it changed the backgrounds etc of my current masterpages. I realize that this is a lack of planning due to my very rusty design principles, and something I wouldn't have done in my day job if the features had been in place. (so thank you for the new features!)
    While I realize I could probably fix this by recreating the site with a uniform underlying Primary Master Page feeding into my Secondary Master Pages, I was trying to create a master page that in effect wouldn't change a thing in the other subservient masterpages (thus allowing me freedom to create groups of pages with common analytics or any other types of code).
    Simply when I take your suggestion, things change... can I do this without making things change?
    Not sure if this makes sense. I am trying to avoid coding or a overhaul b/c of time constraints.

    Hello,
    If you create a new Master Page for your 365 site collection should all the Promoted Links, List Headings, etc. (standard items that are in the OOO SP Master Page) still remain the 'Blue SP Color' or are you able to change these items in the Master

  • Custom Master Page for Cases in eDiscovery

    We are creating eDicovery site using custom site template. Site gets created using custom master page that we have set. Now, there are two option to create New Case.
    #1. Use "Create New Case" button on Right Top Corner on home page
    #2. OR Go to cases link on Left hand side menu i.e. ('ViewCases.aspx'  page)
    Problem 1...
    this viewCases.aspx application page from _layouts uses seattle.master by default. how to change this?
    Problem 2...
    If we hover on "create" link on cases page, we see URL as [URL]/newsbweb.aspx?ID=3300.
    if we click on this link custom templates for creating cases are not visible. obviously, if I create case using OOB template it will use seattle.master page.
    If we remove ID=3300 from browser URL string and refresh, custom templates are available and I can create cases using custom template with my custom master page.
    interestingly, "Create New Case" button mentioned in #2 redirects to same page newsbweb.aspx but with no ID parameter and works fine.
    Please help how to set master page for viewCases page and what is this 3300 and how to remove it from create link.
    Thanking in advance in anticipation of useful pointers.

    Hi if your page layouts alreday created then create new page programaticaaly  and apply your page ayouts to that page by coding you can do something like following
    PublishingWeb publishingWeb =
    PublishingWeb.GetPublishingWeb(web);
    PageLayout[] layouts = publishingWeb.GetAvailablePageLayouts();
    PageLayout layout = layouts[0];
    string pageName =
    "MyPublishingPage5.aspx";
    PublishingPage newPage = publishingWeb.GetPublishingPages().Add(newFolder.Folder.ServerRelativeUrl +
    "/"+ pageName, layout);
    newPageUrl = web.Url +"/" + newPage.Url;
    newPage.Description = "This my sample publishing page";
    newPage.Title = "My Publishing Page";
    newPage.Update();

  • How to get pages list for a group space or create a page for a group space

    hi All,
    I am using wc11.1.1.3, I want to use java api to implementing the following functions in site template:
    1. Get pages list for a given group space
    2. Create a page for a given group space
    I researched the following codes from web site:
    PageDef newPage = mPageService.createPage(
    PERSONAL_USER_PAGE, pageNameFormat, pageTitle,
    "MyPageTemplate1.jspx",
    "/mytemplates/",
    null, null, null);
    What should be used instead of PERSONAL_USER_PAGE if a group space page is intended to be created? which parameter is for defining group space name that the page should be created for?
    By the way, PageService seems has method for getting list of pages, but how to use it to get page list which is in a specified gs?
    Best regards

    did you manage to get the page list using Page Service API?

  • How to set custom master page for sharepoint application page ?

    Hello,
    I need to apply custom master page for the custom application page I created for login purpose.
    Can anyone please let me know how to apply master page for custom application page ?
    Note : I need to set custom master page for application page at web application level.
    thanks,
    Dipti Chhatrapati

    Hi Dipti,
    You can use the same reference as ASP.NET
    Example
    "<%@ Page Language="C#" masterpagefile="../_catalogs/masterpage/minimal.master" title="teste" inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartPage, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" meta:webpartpageexpansion="full"
    meta:progid="SharePoint.WebPartPage.Document" %>"
    You can use SharePoint Designer 2010
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16573 to make the reference from you aspx page to you custom masterpage.
    When you are editing a aspx page you can go to ribbon "Style" and attach the custom Masterpage.
