Creating OO database objects by using class diagrams in JDeveloper

I am new to use JDeveloper. I create UML class diagrams (using Entity Object) in JDeveloper, which has inheritances and associations, and then choose Create Database Objects... try to create oo database, but it only create some tables in the database, not any object types ... .
What do I missed? Or I have to create those oo database objects manually?
Thanks.

Tony,
You can use database object types with BC4J, but only to implement BC4J domains (these can map to object types).
For performance reasons, it is less practical to generate a table of object types for a complete EO. Most users view the BC4J layer as the 'pure' OO model, and map to a relational datamodel for optimal performance.
Below some steps to create a DB object type for a domain:
You can create Oracle Object Types in the database by creating a business component domain and then forward generating the database object. Forward generation of object tables from entity objects is not supported. To forward generate an Oracle Object Type from a new domain: In the System Navigator, right click on your business component package and choose Create Domain. When the Domain Wizard opens, review the information on the Welcome page and click Next. Enter a Name and Package for the domain or accept the defaults. Select the checkbox for Domain for an Oracle Object Type. Do not select any items on the Available Types list, as you are creating a new one. Enter the name of your new type in the Selected Type field. Click Next. On the Settings page, click New. Provide a name in the New Domain Attribute box. Select the appropriate Java type a[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • Creating java code from a class diagram in JDeveloper

    I have created a class diagram in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0. When I generated java code from the class diagram by right clicking on the class diagram->transform->same diagram->UML to Java, a .java file is generated with attributes and getters/setters, and also a .uml_cla file is generated. What is this .uml_cla file exactly and what is it used for? Also I have a package.uml_pck file that was created 3 times. I have a package of com.xxx.xxxx, and it put this package.uml_pck file in "com", in "xxx", and in "xxxx". Do I need to retain all 3 of these files in my project?
    One more question related to this. When I change something in the java representation of the class diagram (i.e. a datatype), it updates the .java file that was generated from the class diagram, and it also works the other way...change the .java file and the java representation of the class diagram changes. However, the class diagram that the code was generated from does not change, nor does the mysterious .uml_cla file I asked about in the above paragraph.

    This did work for me, with an exception. I have put the .java files generated from the class diagram in a different package from the .class_diagram file, the package.uml_pck file, and the .uml_cla file to keep the actual source code separate. When I modified the .java file and transformed the class diagram from java to UML, it created the package.uml_pck file and the .uml_cla files again in the same package as the .java file, and they show the update. The package.uml_pck file, and the .uml_cla file that were originally created and are in the separate package from the .java files were untouched, thus the class diagram displayed does not reflect the change either. Does this mean I should not, or cannot, separate these files, and that they all must be left in the same package? (the purpose of separating it in the first place was for ease of deployment since we don't want to deploy any of the class diagram files) Thanks!

  • I am trying to create a class diagram with jdeveloper but class is grey out

    i am trying to create a class diagram with jdeveloper but class is greyed out even though I downloaded the J2EE version
    I went through the following steps :
    Click the project in which you want to create a new diagram, choose File New from JDeveloper's menu, then select General Diagrams in the left pane of the New dialog.
    I have downloaded J2EE Edition Version 10.1.3.1.0.3984

    When the class diagram is disabled - does the wizard for creating a new class in the new->General also disabled?
    If it is then you are not placing your cursor on the project before you choose file->new
    (you are probably on the workspace that contains the project).

  • Should I start with Entity Object or Java Class Diagram ??

    Hi,
    I come to J2EE / OO application development from non-oo programming world. I am still confused about what step-by-step development approach should I take ?
    Should I :
    - start with creating Entity Object from available database table ?
    - should I start with Java class diagram, followed by generating database tables, then create EO from it ?
    Could anybody please help me, what best practice step by step development approach should I take ?
    Is there any white paper / docs about this ?
    Thank you for your help,
    Krist

    Krist,
    If you are not from the OO world then you may be interested in this new site on OTN (http://otn.oracle.com/formsdesignerj2ee) There is a workshop that starts by looking at an existing datamodel and builds up from there.
    If you are starting from nothing, you can indeed start higher at the Class Model level.
    I recently started discussing data modeling on my blog (http://www.groundside.com/blog/content/SueHarper/) and there are some very good comments(feedback from readers) that may possibly be useful to you.
    If you are new to the UML modeling world, I recommend you read two very good papers by Jan Kettenis on OTN (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/collateral10g.html) They are Getting Strted with UML Class modeling and Getting Started with UML Use Case Modeling.
    Shay pointed you to Toplink. There are a lot of resources on OTN for Toplink, including tutorials.
    Personally? I think if you have time, and if you can, start with a Class Model and perhaps a Use Case model, then you can start planning your application development from a solid base.

  • Database connectivity without using Class.forName()

    Hi,
    Can anyone please tell how we can connect to a database without in java without using the Class.forName() method , and then how the database driver gets loaded.
    Regards,
    Tanmoy

    Hi,
    I recently wrote code that connects to a database without using Class.forName() in order to be compatible with Microsoft's JVM. I read about it here:
    http://www.idssoftware.com/faq-e.html#E1
    Basically, you create a new Driver object and use its connect method.
    Here's what my particular code ended up being:
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test?user=root&password=mypass";
    Driver drv = new org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver();
    Connection con = drv.connect(url,null);

  • How to create a new object of HttpServletRequest class manually?

    Dear all,
    I don't know how silly my question is, however I have no way except asking.
    I know that when I send a request from the client to the server, server authomatically creates an object of
    HttpServletRequest and assigns all the request information to that object, so that you can extract these information by the available methods in the HttpServletRequest class like getHeader, getMethod and so on. What I need to do in my project is doing all above process manually. My question is how I can do it?
    In other words, I have the header and body part of a http request and I want to create a HttpServletRequest
    object and assign the header and body data to the object so that I'll be able to extract those data by using the getHeader, getMethod and other methods available in the HttpServletRequest class.
    Please Help me, I really need your help?
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi shadgar ,
    as rightly mentioned by Sudha and GrayMan, you can provide the implementation for the HttpServletRequest interface in your own way for the requirement, but it leads to a new Servlet Container development as you need to handle many things than the HttpServletRequest.
    I think the current interface and the Servlet Container will be able to handle if your request is over HTTP protocol and it don't deviate from the prtocol's request/response model.
    Check out the javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequestWrapper class, which is the implementation of the javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest and javax.servlet.ServletRequest interfaces.
    Hope it will give some idea about the actual problem and rethink about the solution proposed.

  • Trouble creating a database in MySQL using java

    Hi all,
    I am trying to create a program that connects to MySQL and can create databases, tables etc. I can connect to MySQL using the program but I cannot create a database (however if i create the database with the command line i can create tables in the database).

       con.setAutoCommit(false);
       if(!con.isClosed())
        System.out.println("Connected to " + database_name + " creating the table " + table_name);
       String str = "CREATE TABLE " + table_name + "(id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, first_name VARCHAR(25), last_name VARCHAR(25), address VARCHAR(40), suburb VARCHAR(20), state VARCHAR(3), post_code INT(1), contact_number INT(10), email_address VARCHAR(40));";
       stmt = con.createStatement();
       stmt.executeUpdate(str);
       con.commit();

      finally {
       try {
        stmt.close();
        con.close();
       }catch (Exception e3) {  }
    }I am wondering if anyone can see where im going wrong? I am currently connecting with an anon account to MySQL.
    Here is the program I am using to test the above:
    class ConnectionTester {
    public ConnectionTester() {
      Connect s = new Connect();
      s.createDatabase("PersonDatabase");  //this throws the error
      //s.createPersonDetailsTable("PersonDatabase", "PersonDetails");
    public static void main(String[] arg) {
      ConnectionTester start = new ConnectionTester();
    }

    you should rethink whether you need to create a database using java. personally i think it's a bad idea. your database should exist and the schema should be ready to go when your app starts. why do you think you need to create one?

  • Allow to create, only two objects for a class

    Hi,
    This question is asked in my interview. In singleton concept only one object is created, likewise only two objects are created for a class.
    For that i have write a code like this,
    public class OnlyTwoObjects {
         private static OnlyTwoObjects a1;
         private static OnlyTwoObjects a2;
         public static int n = 0;
         public static OnlyTwoObjects getInstance() {
              if (a1 == null) {
                   a1 = new OnlyTwoObjects();
                   return a1;
              } else if (a2 == null) {
                   a2 = new OnlyTwoObjects();
                   return a2;
              } else if (n == 1) {
                   return a1;
              } else if (n == 2) {
                   return a2;
              return null;
    } But they told this is not good way to do this.
    I don't know how to do this, if any body knows kindly let me know.

    vijay wrote:
    But i will explain my code, in that code we are allowed to create only two objects, Maximum. Understood.
    suppose both objects are created, then i will ask which object you need first or second, this is decided using the variable n if it is 1 then it will return the first object and it is 2 it will return the second object. sorry i didn't explain this in my previous post.This is your approach. Is this the requirement as well? Is it necessary that the user decide on which instance (first or second) is returned?Even if it was the requirement that the user decides which instance (first or second) is returned, with the original proposed implementation, the user only gets to decide which instance after calling getInstance() twice. If he calls getInstance() with n=2 when a1 is still null, he still gets a1. If he calls getInstance with n=1 when a2 is still null but a1 is non-null, then he gets a2. As is, he always gets a1 on the first call, a2 on the second call, and after that gets null unless he has set n to 1 or 2. (This explanation ignores any multi-threading issues that may come into play. This explanation is for a single thread.)

  • Extending the UML class diagrams with JDeveloper Extensions SDK?

    Hello,
    I studied the JDeveloper Extension SDK docs, but couldn't figure out how to write extensions that support UML Diagrams.
    What I would like to do, is to pin a different data model under the class diagram view.
    Well if you can't do that. In the worst case, my extension would register with a regular class diagram and listen to its events and and refuse particular changes. It would also create or use an empty class diagram and fill in the classes and associations in it. (this is less clean but I could live with it).
    Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.
    Slawek

    By definition you can change classes through the model so I guess the problem here is that the model cannot apply updates to something that it is pointing to the the compiled version of.

    Farnaz,
    I don't have a real-life example that I can use to "play" with this, so here is a suggestion.  In your formula "to_char(VALUE)" portion, first format VALUE with the number format capability:
    FormatNumber(VALUE;"##.##")
    So maybe: to_char(FormatNumber(VALUE;"##.##"))

    This error is no longer coming up, it is now saying that it has an unsupported class version error. I believe this may be because the class file and library files have been complied under different versions, is there a method to check this?

  • Creating a database objects for M by M by M relation.

    Please ignore the previous post, It was posted by mistake.
    Hi
    I want to persist the following relation in to the database.
    Student {
    studentId
    Name
    Team {
    teamId
    teamName
    Group {
    groupId
    groupName
    I want to put a student in to a group and a team.
    The simpler situation where a student is put in to a group is done by creating a join table like this.
    StudentTable
    GroupTable
    GroupStudentTable
    where GroupStudentTable would contain
    GroupId and StudentId columns
    Now how do I add a student into a team.
    The intended outcome I want in my user interface is as follows
    GroupName StudentName Team
    GroupAA StudentA Soccer
    GroupAA StudentB BasketBall
    GroupAA StudentC Hockey
    GroupBB StudentA BasketBall
    GroupBB StudentB Swiming
    GroupBB StudentC Basketball.
    GroupBB StudentD Basketball.
    GroupBB StudentE Basketball.
    Basically what I want to show is that in GroupAA StudentA plays soccer and in GroupB he plays BasketBall.
    Please not for a given group a student can play only one thing.
    Thanks

    Yep,
    For a given group a student can belong to one team. That is a contraint within my design.
    The scenario I have described is an exact representation of the intended purpose of use.
    The purpose is to creata a group of objects (In this case students). Only complication is that I need to associate another object (in this case team) in as well. The exact situation is grouping of market shocks in foreign exchange calculations.
    As an example I have shock A = 5% shock of current exchange rate, shock B= 3% shock, shock C= 9% etc shock in foreign exchange (In here we do not specify whether it is USD/AUD or JPY/AUD to keep it generic).
    Now I would like create a Group MyShocks which contains shocks A and C. These shocks does not contain which country it relates to, but I needs it specified when some one adds these shocks in to the MyShockGroup. Therefore my description earlier try to represent:
    Student = MarketShock
    Team = Country
    StudentGroup = MarketShockGroup
    My original thought was to create GroupStudentTeam table as well. But is this the standard practice? I have seen join tables that join two tables, but haven't see join tables that join three things together.

  • ORA-12523 while creating a database on ASM using DBCA

    HI PPL,
    I have set up am ASM instance and also configured the listener services to it.
    But when I try to create database on the configured ASM instance using DBCA , I am getting the following error
    TNS:listener could not find instance appropriate
    for the client connection
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP(Host=10.10.199.141)
    (Port=6881))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME++ASM1)
    (INSTANCE_NAME=+ASM1)(UR=A)))
    I have checked the listener status and ASM instance and booth seem to be fine:
