Creating Partition using EssCmd

Is there any one who has created partition using EssCmd, I could not find any command in EssCmd that does it. I know that you it can be done using MaxL but I do not want to use it.Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.ThanksYousuf

MaxL is not as stable and mature as esscmd. Many features lack documentation or have restrictions (like partitioning). With the new application manager using maxl features (for connection displaying, etc.) we had very unpleasant moments as we had to rely on them. But none the less, give it some time and one or two patch levels and it will grow to it's use.Tom

    Hi,
How could I use esscmd to create new dimension or member. I know that i can use load file but isn't there a way to write it as a esscmd command.
    Thanks

Sorry. there are no commands in Esscmd or MaxL to directly build a dimension. You have to call a load rule to do it.
There are other ways that you can do it with. ODI,and the API are two of them

<p>I was curious about this as well a while back.  Iam quite confident that you cannot import the xml file via Maxl. However, you could just script out the entire partitiondefinition in maxl and use this to create and update your partitionas needed.  Sorry if this isn't the solution you were lookingfor.</p>

  • Not able to create partitions using Oracle 10g express edition

    Hello Everyone,
I downloaded Oracle 10g express edition as the documentation for the same says that it supports partitioning of the table.
But when I try to run a command like
    CREATE TABLE sales_range
    (salesman_id NUMBER(5),
    salesman_name VARCHAR2(30),
    sales_amount NUMBER(10),
    sales_date DATE)
    PARTITION BY RANGE(sales_date)
    PARTITION sales_jan2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('02/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY')),
    PARTITION sales_feb2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('03/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY')),
    PARTITION sales_mar2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('04/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY')),
    PARTITION sales_apr2000 VALUES LESS THAN(TO_DATE('05/01/2000','DD/MM/YYYY'))
    I get the following error
    "ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Partitioning"
Please let me know what is causing the issue/error and how to resolve it.
    Thanks.

Where did you read that the express edition supports partitioning? I would strongly suspect that there was an error in the documentation-- partitioning is an extra cost option on top of an enterprise edition database. Perhaps you are confusing the personal edition (which does support partitioning) with the express edition?

Use Parted Magic. But you *should* backup any important files just in case, regardless of method you use. You never know. Someone could unplug your computer, a power surge might happen, etc. A cousin of mine actually did something similar while I was gaming, the extension cord has a red button which he "accidentally" pressed. I would've cracked his skull had he done it while resizing a partition.
Anyway, the partitioning scheme should be the first thing you do when you decide go this route (dual booting). I remember about a year ago I forced myself to use Linux by formatting the entire drive to ext4, except for the 2 GB + 20 GB ntfs partitions. It was what kick-started me on this path. Here's my partitioning scheme for both computers, maybe you'll get an idea and do something similar:
    Older computer:
    2 GB ntfs - MicroXP
8 GB ext4 - Arch Linux + Home dir (to keep the dot files organized in one place)
20 GB ntfs - games partition
Rest is for media, formatted as ext3 with inode 128 (so it can be loaded as Read-Only in Windows too via Ext2fsd so they won't be affected in case of a virus infection)
    New computer:
    20 GB Windows 7
10 GB Arch Linux + home dir
    50 GB games partition
Rest of the space is ext4 mounted to /media
Note that they're all primary partitions for remembering easier (sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4) instead of a combination of primary and extended which would probably look like sda1, sda5, sda6, sda7, etc.

  • I'm trying to create a Windows partition using Boot Camp. An error comes up telling me that I need to reformat my current partition(s) into one single partition. However, it's already formatted in the correct format, and is already a single partition.

As made clear in the title:
I'm trying to create a Windows partition using Boot Camp. An error comes up telling me that I need to reformat my current partition(s) into one single partition. However, it's already formatted in the correct format, and is already a single partition.
My computer recently had a kernel panic, which apparently the corruption was in the system and needed to be erased and re-installed. I have a complete back-up using an external hard drive, and I am definitely not willing to do another one of those to reformat a partition that is already singular. I restarted the computer after ejecting my back-up, and after turning off time machine (thinking that boot camp was recognizing it as a secondary partition), however the error still occurs.
Is there any way to get around this?

    diskutil list:
    /dev/disk0

       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
    /dev/disk1
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:                            Windows7               *2.9 GB     disk1
    diskutil cs list:
No CoreStorage logical volume groups found
    mount:
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
devfs on /dev (devfs, local, nobrowse)
map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
/dev/disk1 on /Volumes/Windows7 (udf, local, nodev, nosuid, read-only, noowners)
From my very basic knowledge - it still looks as if there is only one partition (not including the windows 7 CD necessary to install the windows partition).

  • How do you get past the create partition step?  Trying to indtall Windows 7 using Boot Camp 5

Trying to install Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  Currently run Win7 using VMware but experiencing poor performance and lockup.  Have tried to use Boot Camp but cannot get past the 'creating partition' step.  The blue bar shows some progress (about 10%), but then after some time it produces a generic error message thst it cannot create the partition.

Hold the option while turning on the computer. You should see your statup drives. Just choose the OS X drive and eject your disc once in OS X.

  • How to create a partition using Boot camp assistant 4.0.1 ?

Hi, i would like to "Partition" my drive and not "Install" windows 7 like the assistant asks me... I wanted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition. So i used winclone to save it and now to restore it i need a NTFS partition that is normally created with the bootcamp assistant. But with the latest (4.0.1) i have no choice to partition and report the installation for later. As it was before.... So can someone tell me how i can create that partition on my drive? Because when i choose the size and then click install, the assistant requires a disk that i don't have. Thx for your help.

So i called apple today and the outcome is that i cannot partition my disk with BCA 4.0.1. Not anymore. The only way to do it is to go back to Snow leopard, with BCA 3.0 to partition your disk. and then upgrade to lion once you made your partition with BCA 3.0. And another thing: you can only install Windows 7 not Vista or XP. with BCA 4.0.1 its the only one allowed. So for everyone out there trying to increase the size of your Bootcamp partition using Winclone, it's not possible with Lion anymore. I ended up bying a windows 7 copy at retail price.... and start over again..

  • Partition using Bootcamp and Windows 7

    Hi
Would it be a good approach to partition using Bootcamp then install Windows 7? Later I plan to install Parallells. Can it be down this way or should I install Parallels first, then Windows 7?
    Thank you.

You may have to see about using the Recovery HD partition to attempt to erase and restore useful function of the capacity lost to the former Windows installation.
And you may have to backup your contents outside the computer to do it. Disk Utility on the Mac OS X historically has not been able to touch a BootCamp created partition; so if BootCamp cannot remove it, then you have to see how to do the equivalent of a reformat of the entire drive (less Recovery partition?) then reinstall your OS X. Maybe from internet recovery, then get your applications, etc from the Mac App store, etc.
A complete system clone of your OS X on an external HDD would be another method to restore after reformat, of the portion you want whole again, not necessarily the space where Recovery may live.
    There may be (an)other way(s).
    Perhaps someone with recent experience
in this matter can reply & discuss options.
With my antiques, they almost know what I want before I tell them.
Hopefully yours will after you talk to it awhile.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Disk utility-erasing a HD, creating partition map hanging

    Hi all,
I have been given an external Maxtor USB drive, 120 BG, with the need to securely wipe the old information on it. I have used Disk Utility, and zeroed the HD with a 7 times pass. This took 17 hours, and it moved to the "create partition map" stage. It's been doing that for 24 hours and still the progress bar is rolling. All other options are greyed out and nothing can be selected in Disk Utility. I have chosen to format it in Mac OS X Extended, Journaled. There was about 45 GB data on the drive.
Would this amount of time be expected, or has something gone wrong? I hesitate to force quit DU, in case I render the drive unusable. If I do that or shut down the computer, what's likely to happen to the HD? Will I be able to mount it again and start over. Any tips much appreciated.
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
17 hours for the 7-times pass is normal (and usually completely unnecessary unless you work for the CIA). However, the hang at the "create partition map" stage is not normal. I would interrupt it and reformat the drive, since the zeroing is finished anyway.

Sorry our primary database file structure is different from stdby, we used db_file_name_convert in the init.ora, it look like this:
    *.db_file_multiblock_read_count=16
    *.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001/','+RT06_DATA/RT06/','+RECO/OT06TSG001','+RECO/RT06'
    *.db_files=2000
    *.db_name='OT06'
    *.db_recovery_file_dest='+RECO'
Is there any thing wrong in this parameter.
I tried this parameter before for cloning using rman backup. This din't work.
What exactly must be done? for db_file_name_convert to work.
Even in this case i think this is the problem its not converting the location and the logical halts.
    help me out.....
let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks Regards
    Raghavendra rao Yella.

    Hi reega,
Thanks for your reply, our logical stdby has '+RT06_DATA/RT06'
    and primary has '+OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001'
so we are using db_file_name_convert init parameter but it doesn't work.
Is there any thing particular steps hiding to use this parameter? as i tried this parameter for rman cloning it din't work, as a workaround i used rman set new name command for clonning.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks in advance.
