Creating/programming a Java Forum

Hi Does anyone know any good pure Java Forums, I dont want to use php or any other programming language other than Java.
I have looked at a few website and this one seems like the best choice:
http://www.mvnforum.com/mvnforumweb/index.jsp
Has anyone used it, or does anyone know a better choice?
thanks

thanks for the reply:
Seems ok, but users have reviewed it as hard to use.
Any other suggestions?

    I don't feel like writing my own example, but google will be happy to provide you with an example.

  • Can i create an exetutable (.exe) program with java???????

    I would like to learn how i can create an exetutable (.exe) program with java.
    Is there any additional package which i should download or buy it?
    Also i would like to write files into CD's direct from my application.
    Is there any library which i must download or buy?
    Thanks!

    check out the free open source GNU gcj native compiler for Java to see if it will do what you want.
    http://gcc.gnu.org/java/
    for writing data files you could use java.io.BufferedWriter. For sound files, look in the javax.sound package

  • Creating a drawing (CAD) program in Java

    I'm in the planning stages of creating a drawing/drafting program in Java, and I'm fairly new to Swing, so I need some guidance.
    For a drafting program, I will need to be able to draw all kinds of objects using lines, curves, etc, connected in various ways. One thing I could do is extend JComponent and override the paint() method, and have it put up all the various objects as it repaints. The problem with this is that if a user clicks on an object, how will I detect which object he clicked on? I'll get mouse coordinates, but then how do I go from that to knowing that he clicked on a certain curve, etc?
    The alternative is to not extend JComponent, but rather to make each of the individual objects on the screen its own component and then lay them out using absolute positioning. Then I'll get mouse events as the user clicks on things. Is this a better way to do it? And if so, I guess I'll still need to create individual components that represent lines, arcs, curves, etc?
    Swing has so many features that it's hard for a beginning to get started into it. Thanks for any tips.

    Personally I wouldn't work with Swing for this functionality,
    but I would rather work with java 2D instead.
    Swing contains to much overhead for the kind of application you plan to develop.
    Look for the java.awt.Shape interface and to the java.awt.geom.* implementations of such shapes.
    It contains already most of the functionality required for painting and hit-detection of a shape on the
    screen.
    kind regards,

  • How to create reports for java programs?

    Hi,
    I have planned to do a project using java,that will help to create reports for java programs. To create reports for java programs i used two options.
    1)Crystal reports
    2)Write the code to produce reports for each java programs
    The second one little cumbersome.SO i planned to develop a software that is compatible for creating java reports.
    I would like to know how i will do the project?Can you help me to made it a successful project.Hope you can help me.
    Expecting your reply
    PreethiRenjith

    Uggg... Crystal reports...
    I would personally write a generic report generator, It would probably be easier than fighting w/
    crystal reports (CR is popular, but painful :) )
    Anyhow, I've written report generators for many different applications. It is one of the simplest projects you
    can take on, and the results make you feel special --
    If your need nicely formated, portable, printable reports, you could have your report generator make PDF files (the format is open, and VERY simple, plus people like pdf files) you can get the pdf spec from adobe or from wotsit.org (the famous wotsit file format archive).
    enjoy!

  • Is it possible to create java standalone programs with java ME 8

    Hi,
    Comparing java ME to java SE, I have the impression that midlets are similar to applets.
    When working with java SE, I usually make standalone programs.
    Now, I wonder if it is also possible to create also standalone programs for java ME, if the classes are only  using java ME API's.
    I already noticed that netbeans does not allow to build a project that does not contain a midlet, but maybe, it is possible to create a jar file
    using the javac and jar commands. Or is there a specific reason why netbeans does not allow to build a project without midlets?
    The reason for asking is, that I often make small tools in java that ae then called from a linux script. I imagine that this might be useful on the raspberry pi as well.
    Thanks in advance
    Jef

    Hi Jef -
    Comparing java ME to java SE, I have the impression that midlets are similar to applets.
    Sort of - similar life cycle methods - so conceptually, yes.
    Now, I wonder if it is also possible to create also standalone programs for java ME, if the classes are only  using java ME API's.
    In a way, yes. If you build an project, you will notice a JAD file and JAR file in the dist directory of the project.  JAD is the descriptor for a MIDlet - in mobile devices, the JAD
    file is loaded first to determine if the MIDlet has enough privileges to load and run, before the corresponding JAR file is downloaded.
    However, the JAD file can also be included in the Manifest of the JAR and the JAR copied to the embedded device manually and run there.
    I already noticed that netbeans does not allow to build a project that does not contain a midlet, but maybe, it is possible to create a jar file
    using the javac and jar commands. Or is there a specific reason why netbeans does not allow to build a project without midlets?
    You can build JAR files and include them into Java ME Embedded projects, but just like Applets, to use the Application Management System (AMS) on the Raspberry Pi, you must have a MIDlet to run.
    Perhaps you mean that you would like to launch the AMS and load a MIDlet from the command line on the Pi?
    If so, take a look at this section of the Getting Started Guide for the Raspberry Pi.

    Help me in creating a Dialer program which dials to a specifie ISP.It should work like the Dialer provided in windows.Help!! Can we code such a program in JAVA.If yes, HOW!!!!
    Abhishek([email protected])

    Get the Java Communications package - javax.comm (comm.jar)
    This will give you access to Windows/Solaris serial (and parallel) ports from Java.
    You then need some simple modem handling to perform the dial and initial handshake.

  • Retrieving cookies when logging into java forums through a java application

    Hello --
    I am currently working on a spider application that will have the ability to login to sites of interest and then begin crawling.
    I thought an easy place to start would be to login to java forums. However, I have run into a bit of a snag with all of the cookies....
    The following is the information that I am posting:
    action = "login"
    url = "http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jsp"
    UserId     // my username
    Password // my password
    Submit = "Log in"
    AutoLogin = "1"
    I am doing this using HttpURLConnection that was created using http://developer.java.sun.com/servlet/SessionServlet as the URL. Then I create an output stream etc:
    OutputStream os = huc.getOutputStream();
    os.write(sb.toString().getBytes("US-ASCII")); // where sb is a StringBuffer which contains the above information separated with &'s
    os.close();
    This is when I run into my problem...Next, I try to obtain the session cookies (using the same HttpURLConnection that I posted with) but I am not getting all of the cookies.
    As a test, I set my browser to prompt for cookies and I found that when you submit your login information three cookies are set: JDC, JSessionId, and SessionCredentials. Then two more cookies are set JSessionId again and jiveUserLastVisited -- I think these cookies are actually set while getting the http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jsp page. Anyway the only cookies that I get through my program are JSessionId and jiveUserLastVisited.
    So to remedy this I tried setting followRedirects to false on my HttpURLConnection (before I perform my post) and then I tried to get the Set-Cookie header immediately following my post. What I found was after calling getFieldHeader() my connection has changed -- when I do a getConnection on my HttpURLConnection the connection has changed to the second page (http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jsp) even with redirects set to false.
    I guess my inexperience with web applications has caught up with me. Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • Cannot run program "keytool": java.io.IOException

    Hi,
    I would like to follow the procedure to change the master password

    /usr/bin/java
    glassfish@ahost:/opt/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/mydom01/config>
    All of glassfish is running fine apart from this.
    keytool could be found in /usr/java/latest/bin/keytool.
    Do we need to have this in the path? There is no requirement in the
    install guide for this, nor did the RPM installation adjust the system
    path accordingly.
    Hopefully someone can tell my how things ought to be regarding keytool?
    Thanks, Tom

    Hi Tom,
    the procedure to change the master password of glassfish server hosting APEX listener... sounds more like a GlassFish-related topic to me. I guess you'd get the best answers for such questions in a GlassFish-related forum...
    For what it's worth, I'll try my best anyway:
    Cannot run program "keytool": java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directoryThis seems to be a pretty clear error message: keytool , which is probably used to manage the keys for GlassFish users, wasn't found. This means, you're either running on an OS that is not officially certified for GlassFish, or you GlassFish hasn't been configured properly.
    You ran
    glassfish@ahost:/opt/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/mydom01/config> which java
    /usr/bin/java... which indicates you assume your GlassFish is running without JAVA_HOME being set. If that's true, I'd begin to setup you GlassFish properly starting with that parameter.
    Anyway, you also found out that
    keytool could be found in /usr/java/latest/bin/keytool.... which is not +/usr/bin+ and hence probably not in the global search path of the user on whose behalf your GlassFish is running. So, you could either create a link-set[*] for +/usr/bin/keytool+ to (finally) point to +/usr/java/latest/bin/keytool+, or you setup JAVA_HOME to be +/usr/java/latest+ .
    [*] Note that depending on your OS there might be more than one stage of indirection, e.g. my Ubuntu has +/usr/bin/java+ pointing to +/etc/alternatives/java+ which is pointing to +/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java+ where +/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/+ is pointing to the directory containing the actual JDK to be used. You'll probably find something like that on your system as well. My Ubuntu box has a link for +/usr/bin/keytool+, so I get that when running "which keytool".
    Do we need to have this in the path? There is no requirement in the install guide for this, nor did the RPM installation adjust the system path accordingly.Again, this is not a GlassFish forum.
    I hope my hints help you solve your problem. If they don't, please choose the appropriate forum for your next post on that topic. And I guess, giving some more information on your OS and how you manage your JDK (and which version you use) will help people there to help you.
    Thanks,
    Udo

  • XMP Embedder program in java

    Hello everyone,
    I would like to introduce myself to the form. My name is Tuli and I am student at Colorado School of Mines. We are working with a team on a XMP embedded program. The program in short will:
    - Allow you to create schema and save them
    - Allow you to fill in the schema and create templates and save the templates
    - Batch processing of embedding templates (XMP data) into JPEG, GIF, TIFF and PNG
    -The program is going to be designed to be compatible with Photoshop
    This program as well as the source code will be freely available for download.
    We are writing the program in Java to work on windows 2000, XP, and OSX platforms. Any help on this project would be greatly appreciated as we develop it.

  • JAVASCRIPT ISSUE (i realize this is a java forum not J.S.) URGENT!

    Hello,
    First off I realize this is a java forum and not Javascript so if you are do not know Javascript ignore this thread. I posted it here because Ive used this before and help is often prompt. However, If anyone out there knows javascript would you be willing to help me real quick on a function issue that i cannot seem to solve? It would be greatly appreciated! I am trying to add a pop up box that displays an error message when they enter the wrong format. For ex. the proper format is 3 letters followed by 3 numbers (INF334). If they enter something such as (INFD334) I want a J.S. pop up box to display and have them try again. I cant seem to figure out where I need to include this within my function I created though. Can someone please help! Here is my function:
    function addCourses(arguments) {
      //Declare Variables
           var class = "-", grade = "-";
           fieldValue = document.InformationForm.CoursesTaken.value;
            if(arguments == null || arguments == '') {
           //Prompt user for input, validate input
             while(!class.match(/[A-Z]{3}[0-9]{3}/) && class != 0 && class != '' && class != null) {
                     class = prompt("Enter a Course ID. Ex. INF110", "");
           else {class = arguments;}
      //Checks for valid Grade Letters including Withdrawals
           while(!grade.match(/[A-DFW]{1}/) && grade != 0 && grade != '' && grade != null && class != '' && class != null && class != 0) {
              grade = prompt(" Enter The Grade Letter Earned. Ex. A B C D F W", "");
           if(class != "" && class != null && grade != '' && grade != null && grade != 0 && class != 0) {
                  document.InformationForm.CoursesTaken.value = fieldValue + "" + class + "\t" + grade + "\n";
             newGPA(grade);
             classCount();
    }//END addCourses Function

  • New "Windows Programming Using Java" Website

    Our newly created "Windows Programming Using Java" website (http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/winJava/) is for programmers who want to extend Java's capabilities on Windows XP and/or Vista, but aren't sure where to start. One of the drawbacks of Java's portability is that many Java programmers have a rather sketchy knowledge of Windows-specific programming.
    We plan to explain how Java applications can utilize Windows application software, OS features, and hardware beyond the reach of Java's standard libraries. A variety of Java/Windows programming techniques will be explained, including:
    * Java's employment of the Win32 API via C, JNI, and J/Invoke.
    * Java's utilization of Window's Command Line Interface (CLI) and batch files, accessed through Java's Runtime, ProcessBuilder, and Process classes.
    * Java and Windows object-based scripting, centered around the use of VBScript, Windows Script Host (WSH), and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
    * Java interoperability with COM, including hosting of ActiveX controls in Swing containers using jacoZoom.
    This website is a work in progress, with four chapters available for download at the moment. We'll be adding more regularly, and would love feedback on what we're doing.
