Creating report in java

i m developing an application -- student information system-- and i want some way to create reports in java. can soebody help me out.. pls.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dheeraj.

Of course this is a real big problem in java programming. There are lot of 3rd party tools for this . But if you look for a free solution ,We have a JFreeReport at
http://www.jfreereport.org
check this site for more information .
But jfree report needs lot of coding and XML Codings.
To get away from this Try IReport tools which is GUI based designing environment.

    Uggg... Crystal reports...
    I would personally write a generic report generator, It would probably be easier than fighting w/
    crystal reports (CR is popular, but painful :) )
    Anyhow, I've written report generators for many different applications. It is one of the simplest projects you
    can take on, and the results make you feel special --
    If your need nicely formated, portable, printable reports, you could have your report generator make PDF files (the format is open, and VERY simple, plus people like pdf files) you can get the pdf spec from adobe or from wotsit.org (the famous wotsit file format archive).
    enjoy!

  • Creating reports using java

    hello java fanatics! :D
    im a vb programmer and created an ActiveX Printer Control. this ActiveX is downloaded on the client browsers (IE) and called by my vbscript for me to access its functions. but my problem is that... it only works on IE!
    one of my friend told me that the only way i can resolve this issue is recode my ActiveX Printer Control in JAVA (applet). i've done some research about it but i cant find a specific tutorial on how can i print on the client side using JAVA applet.
    i've done some CSS reports but my reports should be 8.5 X 5.5 inch. is it possible also to set some custom page layout in JAVA?

    It seems that you already have the material to be printed in the final format and you just want to send them to the printer.
    If you want to do printing yourself you can use java print api
    its in java.awt.print and javax.print packages.
    If you search for tutorials for java print api you'll get what you want.
    But if you want just to get the job done the best way is to write a serverside program (a Servlet) to display the content that need to be printed on the browser. So the user can directly use File->Print command or you can even put a print button on the page which executes the javascript print command
    or just execute it automatically by adding a javascript at the bottom of the page.

  • Creating Reports in Java

    Hello,
    Not sure I am in the correct forum or not...
    We are considering rewriting an application from VB 6 to Java. Our VB app. uses Crystal Reports to generate all reports. If we were to move to Java, is there a similar reporting tool that we could use to create the reports?
    Thx.

    You could also use JasperReports http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/ and iReport http://ireport.sourceforge.net/index.php

    JasperReports is a powerful report-generating tool that has the ability to deliver rich content onto the screen, to the printer or into PDF, HTML, XLS, CSV and XML files.
    http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net
    There is a convenient visual designer to create reports for jasperreports library called iReport.
    Take a look at http://ireport.sourceforge.net

  • How to create a report with data using the Crystal Reports for Java SDK

    Hi,
    How do I create a report with data that can be displayed via the Crystal Report for Java SDK and the Viewers API?
    I am writing my own report designer, and would like to use the Crystal Runtime Engine to display my report in DHTML, PDF, and Excel formats.  I can create my own report through the following code snippet:
    ReportClientDocument boReportClientDocument = new ReportClientDocument();
    boReportClientDocument.newDocument();
    However, I cannot find a way to add data elements to the report without specifying an RPT file.  Is this possible?  I seems like it is since the Eclipse Plug In allows you to specify your database parameters when creating an RPT file.
    is there a way to do this through these packages?
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.data
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.definition
    Am I forced to create a RPT file for the different table and column structures I have?
    Thank you in advance for any insights.

    Hi Rameez,
    After working through the example code some more, and doing some more research, I remain unable to populate a report with my own data and view the report in a browser.  I realize this is a long post, but there are multiple errors I am receiving, and these are the seemingly essential ones that I am hitting.

              String tableName = "Building";
                String fieldname = "Building_Name";
                Table oTable = new Table();

                oTable.setConnectionInfo(oConnectionInfo);
                rcd.getDatabaseController().addTable(oTable, null);
    This code succeeds, but it is not clear how to add that database field to a section.  If I attempt to call the following:
    FieldObject oFieldObject = new FieldObject();
                oFieldObject.setDataSourceName(field.getFormulaForm());
                oFieldObject.setFieldValueType(field.getType());
                // Now add it to the section
                oFieldObject.setLeft(3120);
                oFieldObject.setTop(120);
                oFieldObject.setWidth(1911);
                oFieldObject.setHeight(226);
                rcd.getReportDefController().getReportObjectController().add(oFieldObject, rcd.getReportDefController().getReportDefinition().getDetailArea().getSections().getSection(0), -1);
    Then I get an error (which is not unexpected)
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportDefControllerException: The field was not found.---- Error code:-2147213283 Error code name:invalidFieldObject
    How do I add one of the table.SetDataFields()  to my report to be displayed?
    Are there any other pointers or suggestions you may have?
    Thank you

  • How to save report in PersonalCategory  after creating it using java panel?

    Hi,
    Anybody knows How to save report in PersonalCategory  after creating it using java panel?
    I dont want to save it in public folder. I want to save report (webi) in user's personal category.
    can anybody send me source code?
    It will help me a lot.
    Thanks in advance
    Amol Mali

    Hi teda,
    i'm assuming that you have seen my post that i did successfuly save report in user's personal category.
    Actually the report is created in webi java panel using RE SDK and  is saved in Report Sample Folder then i'm saving it in user's personal category by following code
    string query = "Select SI_PERSONAL_CATEGORIES From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where "
                         + "SI_INSTANCE=0 And SI_ID=" + reportID;
                    InfoObjects infoObjects = infoStore.Query(query);
                    InfoObject infoObject = infoObjects[1];
                    Webi wreport = (Webi)infoObject;
                    ObjectRelativeIDs personalIDs = wreport.PersonalCategories;
                /personalIDs.Add(Convert.ToInt32(categoryID));
                   infoStore.Commit(infoObjects);
    But the report is presents in the Folder also and in user's personal category also.
    I dont want the report to be in the folder (Report Sample) if i saved it in user's personal category.
    How can i do that?
    any idea.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance

  • How can i create an dynamic report in Java

    hello everybody,
    I want to make dynamic reports in Java. Report contain data and images with good layout.. such as crystal reports presentation..
    Reports fields decided at run time or we can say that it is generated according to user requirement...
    can it is possible in Java. If it is then which tool is better for it..
    please suggest me.. this is very urgent requirement for me...

    i don't know what types of tools are avaiable in market... Tools for what? You still didn't tell us what exactly you want to do.
    i just imagin that
    "An user create a database dynamically on server
    databaseNobody "dynamically creates a database".
    and he decide reports desgin according to
    his requirement..... we provide an control for this
    type possibilities....."
    so this is question is build in my mind.. so i
    forward this question to this forums..
    I am just going to check the physibility of my mind
    imagination...Feasibility you mean. IMHO, the feasibility of creating that stuff yourself is very low. Reinventing the wheel usually doesn't make it better, and it's likely to be more expensive to pay you for creating an inferior solution (not because of lack of skills, but simply because the available products had a few years time to grow, feature-wise) than to simply buy the licenses. Look at Crystal Reports or JFreeChart or Jasper Reports. Or use Google to look up J2EE-based reporting libraries. There might be more.
    Which of these is best, I don't know, I never used any of those. Also, the definition of "best" changes with the requirements. What's better, a Ferrari or a truck?

  • "Create Report" OR ONLY "edit report" with java?

    Dear all
    Is it possible to create a new crystal report with java?
    Do you have some classnames, methodenames, etc that bring me back on the right track?
    I found: "With the latest versions of Crystal, there is no way to actually allow your users to create a report.  There used to be a COM component called "RDC", but that was deprecated with Crystal XI and is no longer available."
    My Version is Crystal Reports 2008 - is this still up to date?
    best regards!

    You would want to look for Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 which is the equivalent Java SDK for Crystal Reports 2008.  You can then find samples for Report Modification [here|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsJava+SDKSamples#CrystalReportsJavaSDKSamples-ReportModification]
    Generally you need to start with loading an rpt file, but this report can be blank.

    This is on all iDevices - not just iPad.  It's a new router that supports Smart Wi-Fi apps. Why?  Is this a setting?  And it only seems to be You Tube.  It says Playback Error or Video Not Available. Thoughts?
