Creating runtime environment

Hello APEX Community,
I am a DBA and have successfully installed the APEX full development environment on a server. On the same server but a different database, I want to install the APEX runtime environment.
How will this work? For the runtime environment to be on the same server as the development environment, do I need an additional installation of the Oracle HTTP Server?

Hi Dave,
if you intend to have both your development environment and your production environment on the same machine, then it will work fine with a single Oracle http server (OHS).
You have different options to do so:
a) a different database access descriptor (DAD) , e.g.:
=> production will map to /pls/apex
=> development will map to /pls/apex_dev
b) virtual hosts based on different hostnames for the same machine
=> production will map to http://prodserver:80/pls/apex
=> development will map to http://devserver:81/pls/apex
c) virtual hosts based on different ports, e.g.:
=> production will map to http://server:80/pls/apex
=> development will map to http://server:81/pls/apex
Option b) and c) will have the additional benefit that you can map the directory /i/ to different file system paths and thus running different versions of APEX on the development environment vs. the production environment.
