Creating Secured Forms and Saving Completed Forms

Hi,
I have been tasked by my manager to create a checklist form which me and my colleagues must complete and save when carrying out servicing of various medical equipment. For this, I have been using Adobe Acrobat Professional 6, using the forms feature. I created the form with various form fields and secured the pdf file with a password, only allowing the form fields to be filled in. However, when the user opens the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader, they can fill in the form but cannot save it as another file, it only allows them to print it. Ideally, what I would like for the user to do is to open up the template form, allowing them to fill in the form fields without being able to edit the document and then save the completed form with the job number as the file name. Is there any way to have the document secured but also allow the 'save as' button to be used? I would be extremely grateful if you could help :-)
Thanks,
Michael

You can upgrade from AA6. Keep in mind it is a good idea to keep your AA6 CD around even after the install of AA9. If you have problems in the future and have to reinstall, you will need the AA6 CD or at least the information from it. You can check the Adobe store for information about the update.
It sounds like your application would be within the bounds of the EULA as I read it. If you have fewer than 500 folks who will be using the form, then by the EULA you are allowed to activate Reader Rights. As I read the EULA, they can do multiple submissions of the form and such, just as long as the number of users stays below 500. You may want to read the EULA before the upgrade to be sure you will be in compliance (the EULA can usually be found on the Adobe site).
Starting with AA8, Reader Rights was an added feature that could be used to allow users of the Reader to save the form with the data.

  • Pdf and saving completed forms locally

    I have been trying to create a pdf form that we can send to our users and they can fill out, save a copy, and email back to us for processing. Eventually this will be a lot more automated but for now that is my goal. I have created a form with both itext and BFO and neither seem to have the ability to enable adobe reader to save a completed copy of a form. I am wondering if anyone else has run into this and what there solution was. Thanks.

    DrClap you hit the nail on the head. After doing a lot of research I have found that adobe actually has a pdf sdk, an acrobat sdk, and a product called live cycle that one or all may give me the functionality I need. Now I am just trying to figure out which one will do it at the most reasonable price.
    Sabre, I am going to make a pdf that looks like a spread sheet and gives them an option to enter a price into one field.
    Being that 99% of our customers are not going to have acrobat or have any idea how to actually go about changing a pdf document, security through obscurity works well for us in this situation as we are not really concerned about them changing info beyond the fact that we will have some issues processing it. At that point we will deal with that on a per case basis. I just don't want to give them an excel spread sheet and say here have fun as we have done that before and it is a nightmare like DrClap said.
    As for the requirements in my original post I stated that I need to make a form that users can fill out, save, and then send back to us for processing. And this will accomplish what I am trying to do if I can make it work so I guess I don't understand your remark about the requirement and solution being flawed.
    Thanks for the input guys.

    Hi chuck,
    If you ave created the form and then filling it yourself and saving the form, the filled data should be there when you reopen the same form.
    Can you please send the form to me at [email protected]  so that I can have a look.

  • When creating a fillable form and saving it as a pdf, the default color of the data fields is a light blue. How do I change the color to something else that will copy better, e.g. a light yellow?

    It's probably the fields highlight color of the application, which you can change via Edit - Preferences - Forms.

  • Printing and sending completed forms with free adobe reader

    How can readers fill forms and save the form for printing WITH their completed responses?
    I've created forms and saved them as 'reader extended' expanded options but readers claim they print 'blank' where the form fields are.

    I am using adobe professional and save as reader extended to allow for exactly what I need but the reader says the saved version with responses is blank when printed.

    for the moment you can Forcequit, as Eustace said.
    Really quit a program you do by clicking the menu bar of the program where its name is, on the bottom you see "Quit (appname)"; when it is in the Dock, rightclick it in the Dock and choose "Quit".
    Now about yout attachment: it does not matter what you did to it and where you moved it, as long as Preview is still open it doesn't let it go.

    Hi,
    The form data will send out email when first time data is saved, but when the user save it for the second time or third time, it won't send out emails automatically, you have to click on the resend email link to have the email sent again. For the subsequent saves, they can use the link provided in first email to retrieve web data. Please check with your users if they have run into this situation and are expecting emails from second or later saves.
    If it is not the case, please send me the link of your web form to [email protected] and I would like to try it.
    Thanks,

  • I opened my form and downloaded the form to post on my website... but the submit button is not working.

    What am I doing wrong? The first time I created my form I used Acrobat and the FormsCentral embedded in the program. The original form was working, but I had to make some changes to it. I can't get FormCentral to launch within Acrobat anymore. I loaded my new form (with the changes) to Forms Central through the browser interface, yet when I open the form and download the form to post the posted form does not work. Help!

    Hi,
    if it's ok for you, people can send a email at your adress, it's enough to use (translated from German-DW):
    Insert -> email link. In my DW it looks lik this:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>eMail</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <a href="mailto:[email protected]">eMail</a>
    </body>
    </html>
    The users click into the word "eMail" your eMail-program wil start.
    Naturally there are som other ways, like this for example:
    <td width="35%"><input id="send" type="submit" name="Submit" value="send" />
    I suggest first try or test the easy way.

  • Will someone please tell me how to change the name of a folder I created in Pages and saved to the cloud?

    Will someone please tell me how to change the name of a folder I created in "Pages" and saved to the "Cloud"? Thanks.

    Go to the open dialog in Pages and select iCloud.
    Click on the folder that you created on iCloud to open the folder.
    On the lower half of the window (the open folder) click on the name of the folder.
    Once you click and select the folder's name it should be editable.

  • I have just created my first form and saved it as a PDF. The editable boxes have a background colour of Blue and I would like to change this. Can it be done?

    Hi guys i have just created my new form and it was very easy. however once i convert it to a PDF the editable boxes in the form are blue and i would like to change the colour. does any know if this can be done?

    The blue background is the field highlighting that you have the option of turning off. If you don't see the purple bar on top with Highlight Fields toggle button, it should displayed by clicking the top icon (purplish) in the navigation pane on the left

  • Filling in Forms and Saving in Acrobat Reader

    Hi, i have created form fields in a PDF document created in Acrobat 8, but when i open the document in Reader, it will not allow me to save the file with the form filled out, it will oly allow a blank document to be saved. Is there a way around this so that anyone opening the documet in reader can save the filled out form? There is no security setting and comments are NOT enabled. Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    t

    If you're using Acrobat 8 Pro, you can Reader-enable the document, which allows Reader to save a filled-in form. In Acrobat 9, the menu item to do this is "Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader", but I think it was something different in Acrobat 8. Check Acrobat's Help doc if you can't find it.

  • Update XDP datasets after fillong and saving static forms

    Hi all,
    I've got many static XFA forms, which does not behave the same way after filling-in and saving in Acrobat. Mosto of them updates the XDP datasets entry inside the XFA, but some of them does not. The result is, that after extracting the XDP from the pdf Form, the datasets contains just the default values and not the filled-in values.
    Are there any rules for updating the datasets entry shen saving filled form?
    Thanks for any help

  • Signatures and Saving PDF forms

    I purchased AdobeExport in July 2012.  I was able to type info into a pdf form and save it, and sign a document (insert a signature image file), save it and print it all out.  These features are no longer available.  My account was automatically renewed for another year starting July 2013.
    Were the sign and save features only for one year?
    I do not want EchoSign as I do not need 3rd party signatures; just the ability to sign documents that I send.
    Thank you.
