Creating Server instances

Hi,
Hope this is the right list for this topic.
I can add successfully new Server instances (Configure new server option) but
simply unable to make them run.
When I try to start the server, it returns a FAILED status with the fwg error
message:
"SecureCommandInvoker: Could not create a socket to the NodeManager running on
host 'localhost:5555' to execute command 'online MyServer', reason: Connection
refused: connect. Ensure that the NodeManager on host 'localhost' is configured
to listen on port '5555' and that it is actively listening"
I was told that I need to add a machine, configure Nodemanager etc.. but is this
really necessary ?? I am trying to add server instance to a Weblogic server that
already exists and has various server instance created and running fine without
any machine associated.
Please help!

really necessary ??If you want to start the servers from the Admin console , yes its necessary
that you start the nodemanager.
If you just want to start the server, you can run the startManagedWeblogic
script and pass the server name and the admin url.

Error when creating a new Reports Server instance

I have tried to create and start a new reports server instance using the following method:
1- Creating the report server instance:
rwserver server=%newrepserver% start
2- Stopping the OPMN:
*%ORACLEHOME%\opmn\bin\opmnctl stopall*
3- Adding a new server target to OPMN.XML
*%ORACLEHOME%\bin\addNewServerTarget.bat %newrepserver%*
4- Updating the configuration with new OPMN settings:
*%ORACLEHOME%\dcm\bin\dcmctl.bat updateconfig -ct opmn -v -d*
*%ORACLEHOME%\dcm\bin\dcmctl.bat resyncinstance -v -d*
5- Starting the OPMN again:
*%ORACLEHOME%\opmn\bin\opmnctl startall*
However, when I try to start the OPMN again, I receive the following error:

On Windows this is caused most often by the temporary directory setting.
Change the temporary directory to some fixed directory writable by anybody, e.g. "C:\temp".
Change this in:
Registry entry: hkey_local_machine\software\oracle\key_<oashome>\REPORTS_TMP
<oashome>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml: search for environment variable TEMP (under ias-instance)

Why portal server can't create an instance of axis.Service class?

We developed a uwl custom connector,The time out occured in that custom connector.After adding the time out value from 30s to 300s,the problem still existed.
The code is like below:

The time out occured when the portal server create an instance of Service class.Does that mean the server can't find the jars?
But the object declaration like "Service service=null;" is all right.

I have a project called 'Default EAR' in my workspace.
But I can't add the JAR to the that project. These instructions are for WSAD 4, but I assume WSAD 5 is similar:
Go to menu File and select Import. Choose "File System" to import from. Specify "Default EAR" as your folder and select the jar file from the directory/browse prompt.
This is assuming your web app is connected to Default EAR and not some other EAR file. Also once you've done this, you will find that the jar file automatically becomes part of your build path. You didn't have to do anything extra to make that happen.

In Oracle 9 Application Server can we create multiple instances???

my application was already developed and currently it is working with one instance for this i need to create the another one more instance which is same as existing and my application is web application developed in Forms6i and the db is oracle 9i my requirement is to create one more instance what are all the configuration files need to be modified and please give this info ASAP....

It is still not very clear. What do you mean by creating "one more instance of the same application in the same application server"? By "application" do you mean another instance of OC4J in same Application Server Instance? If yes, you can do that. I mean you can create another OC4J component in same Application Server Instance without doing another installation. Refer this for details:

If you are looking to create another Application Server Instance out of same installation/binaries (i.e. Oracle Home) than the answer is no. You can not create multiple Application Server Instances out of one Oracle Home. You will have to do another installation in a different Oracle Home and that's how you will get another Application Server Instance.

How can I force TestStand to create multiple instance of an activex server instead of share the same reference?

     I am trying to migrate a application coded by VC++ to TestStand+CVI. This application opens multiple serial com ports and send commands to test targets, and get responses from these targets. The VC++ application creates multiple thread, and every thread create an activeX server instance which is responsible for opening serial port,sending test commands ,and getting response. It works fine as every thread has itsown activeX instance, so data and commands can be handled in the right serial port successfully.
     Yet when I works on TestStand, I got problems. I choose parallel model as the process model. I create a activeX object reference with AxtiveX/COM Adapter, and store the reference in a sequence local varialbe. If there is only 1 testsocket, It is OK. But if there are multiple test sockets, and communication between the application and test targets will be directly to the last test target. I try to popup a message within a execution to indicate the value of the activeX object reference, and all of them are identical. But this is not the behavior I want.
    So, is it possible to force TestStand to create independent instances of an activeX server? How can I make it work?

      Yet I do get problems as none of us know how to program an activeX server so that it can be forced to be a single-instance or multiple-instance.
As I mentioned earlier, there is existing application which is written by VC++ can create multiple instances of this activeX server, all I have to do is to create multiple threads, and initiate an instance of this server to contrl multiple test targets.
     My colleague said he creates the server with VC++ ATL, and cofigure it to be dual-interface and STA. And in the VC++ application side(client side), I use smart-pointer in threads to create an instance of the server:

Drill down to "Server Root" -> Right click -> "Create Instance of" -> "Directory Server" - Complete the pop up specifying instance name and port.

I've got the exact same problem when launching to JDeveloper.
And I've searched on internet for days.
I did try to modify the number of
MaxPermSize in jdev.conf
and
Xmx and Xms in ide.conf
I've tried several combinations, and sometimes it works.
The disappoint fact is that even with the same combination of the settings, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it just work. Sometimes it doesn't...and after rebooting it works again......Sometimes even rebooting doesn't help.......Sometimes when change MaxPermSize to a smaller number it works...and next time it may not work again....Sometimes you change the MaxPermSize to some other number, save, and then change it back,,,,and it works again...but next time you try to use it, it may not work..........
I don't know what leads to these problems.....anyone could help? Thanks in advance....

Creating a new web server instance using script

We have to create 10 instances of sun one 6.1 web server again and again. Creating them from GUI and deleting them after testing is going to be a time consuming process. Is there a way to copy an existing instance with the help of some command line tool or shell script (If we know what enteries should be there in each configuration file). Any help will be appreciated.

6.1 unfortunately does not provide a way to create instances through command line tool. With 7.0 (soon to be released as Beta in the coming weeks) will have a full fledged command line tool for all server administration tasks
meanwhile, as a temporary work around one could do the following within a shell or perl script.
[ this approach is totally not supported by Sun. You are on your own ]
1. cd INSTALL_ROOT
2. copy https-HOSTNAME to https-test (/bin/cp -Rf https-HOSTNAME https-TEST) - assuming TEST is the new instance name that you want to create.
3. use a script to edit the following files and replace 'https-HOSTNAME' to https-TEST in all occurrences.
list of files to change:
start , stop , reconfig , restart , rotate
config/magnus.conf
config/server.xml
4. finally, you can use 'HttpServerAdmin' to change the listener port, security settings etc
./bin/https/bin/HttpServerAdmin -h

followed by create a new listener socket id
./bin/https-TEST/bin/HttpServerAdmin create -l -id ls1 -ip ANY -port NEW_PORT -sname HOSTNAME -defaultvs https-TEST -sinst https-TEST -d INSTALL_ROOT
[ similarly, you can perform other server admin tasks using this command' ]

 If it for clustering then the solution is simple.
 WLS clearly states that in a cluster all the servers should be listening on
 the same port.
 Noe back to the question how do you achieve clustering on a single
 machine.Answer is -> multihome it.
 I run my WIN 2k m/c with three static ip's and I have cluster of 3 servers
 runing on my machine.
 We can acheive the same on solaris too.

Creating New (multiple) server instance for a single domain

Hi,
I am trying to create a new server instance under a domain and deploy a web application under that.
Ex:
I have domain: ABC
default admin server: Admin_server
New server Instance: server2
New server instance: server3
I deployed a webapplication on "Admin_server" and when i try to access the webapplication it works fine.
But when i try to deploy the same webapplication(or a new webapplication) i do get a nullpointerexception error.
I am new to weblogic and hence a bit lost here.
Also when the admin server "Admin_server" is created for domain "ABC" a new folder called "Admin_server" would be created under "ABC" [EX: C:\bea\user_domains\ABC\Admin_server]
the "Admin_server" would have a upload dir under which the webapplication files/folder would be deployed.
I was under the impression when u create a new server instance "Server1" a simliar dir structure would be created but this is not the case.
I am new to weblogic and this seems to a minor config which i am missing.
Any suggestions , hints would be appreciated

The node manger is installed as a service. I am using Nodemanager to start the managed server.

Unable to Start server instances created

I'm kind of newbie with in this area.
However,i hope i might get a direction to resolve my issues.
We have a server(Sun Java System Application Server 7 2004Q2UR4) where we have created few instances for deploying our applications on Solaris v9.0 SPARC environment.
We have confirgured it in the right way and it was working quite long time.
However,we had a problem with change of timezone earlier and as per the request we have changed /etc/TIMEZONE file and rebooted our server physically.
now soon after we intially had few space problems and none of the instances were starting in first place.we resolved it by increasing it and made sure that our admin-server instance is starting.
However,when we are trying to start other instances our JMS is not Accepting any connections what so ever.
and this what we are encountering.

SEVERE: CORE3186: Failed to set configurationthe same thing happens with other instances too however the JMS application port is different which quite explainable(40709).
Am i missing something here other than starting admin-server instance stated in domain.
I'd be glad if someone can guide me further may be guiding me to the right path would be helpful.i did tried googling on this and tried to search sun resources aswel.

Hi Rahul,
Remove the /path/AS7/imq/var/instances/domain_instance-name/lock file and try restarting. This file will have the JMS port information. If U remove the lock file and then try starting the instance.

How to install DS5.2P4 without creating an ldap server instance

I like command like this
"./setup -nodisplay -noconsole -state answers.txt"
I am interested to just unpack the binary to the /opt/iplanet directory.
Not to install a running instance. is there a way to disable ./setup from creating a ns-slapd running instance ?

As far as I know this is not possible.
Directory Server 6 will not create any instance at install time... But there is still a little bit of time before it is publicly available.
