Creating small groups (like private chat) within a room

hi there, i just have some set of questions and clarifications
1. by default, only owners can create groups right? (when i say groups i mean the one you set by doing audioPublisher.groupName), is there a way to enable the publisher to make groups as well?
2. what is the better way for private chatting within a room (private chat for about 10-20 people within a room, more like a group)... i'm thinking to use the ability to set publisherIDs for audioSubscriber, but is there an advantage in using the audioPublisher.groupName, other than you do not have to specify all userIDs of the person that you want to subscribe to?

          we intend to use LCCS for audio conference only
   b) How many people are in the room "at large" vs in these private groups?
          i can't really give a range but idea is we will typically have a "room" for a meeting group, i'm just thinking what would be better, either a room per meeting, or a group per meeting. i mean there will be no overlapping of groupings since these will be all guests accounts.
Right now, i'm more inclined to using a room for each meeting since if it will be done by groups then what if we make groups within a room and then suddenly our room got maxed out (5000 users), then we need to add another member for a group but we cannot add it anymore since the room is already maxed out. As far as i know now, there is a max of 5000 users per room, but is there a maximum number of rooms allowed to be created per account?
You also mentioned that "it's great for when you need an absolutely secureenvironment", pertaining to groups, i supposed that room separation also possesses the same absolute security right?
Another thing you mentioned is that "carries the challenge of needing a moderator in the room.", pertaining to groups again, is this because of the fact that you would have to create a group using an owner account? perhaps same thing as when creating a room using an owner account. But i mean once the group/room is created then any publisher can easily publish in that room/group right?
Right now, i'm just using the audioSubscriber.publisherIDs to sort of separate the users of a room but then again, it would be harder to monitor once there is a lot of users within a room

- select the web application you want to create new managed path
- click on 'Managed Paths' from the ribben
- Add 'Coll' as a Managed path and Type : 'Wildcard inclusion' and click 'Add Path'
- then when you go and crate a new site collection under that web application you will see 'coll' as a managed path

Privat Chat

Hi,
I am newbie to cirrus and creating one room video/audio as well as text chat application.
I have used NetGroup concept for room chat and seems to be working fine.
Now I want to create private chat in same room where users will see all other attendees in the room and they can
start there private chat with them.
So here I ahave stucked as I dont know how others will get list of other online users in group and second how
can I send private chat to them?

Though, it's still not a real solution. What I was willing is to have a textfield on the stage and whatever the scroll or size of the textfield to be able to take the boundaries of a character. For instance, just to place the text field and then to get ANY character without stretching around the size of it
I solved the problem by always scrolling down when new message arrives, but.. that sucks really!
That's why I cant resize the text field, because then all goes wrong with the scroll and stuff.. I mean if the user had scrolled up a bit and later someone talks in the chat (let's say we talk about group chat), the temp height that I'll assign should be unknown.. althouth I got textHeight and I'm not sure if I can calculate the total height minus the scrolled size... But if I should do all of this there is no point to do it that way.. it's too cheap as performance and my time too.
Anyway I will appretiate more ideas about that and also I think the subject is interesting to all the guys who wants to create emoticons in their chats right

I don't know which line you intended be bold, but the following line makes little sense...
event.target.parent.addChild(event.target);
If the parent of the event target is the parent, then the event target is already the child of the parent.

When I click on my contacts icon on my phone there is a Groups choice in the upper left hand corner. Make sure you are in All Contacts and not a specific person.

How do you create new groups within Contacts on the iPad?

The easiest way is to get the app called group e mail. There are a couple of others as well. There is a way to do it on your computer, and sync it, but I find that personally frustrating. :). Save yourself the aggrevation, and get the app, that works pretty well.

Creating a folder and adding albums within it

I'm getting close to throwing my computer. I know this is basic stuff, but I am new to Elements 9...
I just returned from the Galapagos and I want to create a file that holds all of my pictures. In that file I want to have folders that correspond with each day and within those folders I want to be able to have individual folders that correspond with each site visited.
For example:
      Galapagos (album)
          - Day 1 (no pictures)
               - Visit 1 (has pictures)
               - Visit 2 (has pictures)
          - Day 2 (no pictures)
                                                       ...and so on.
I've created the album itself, now I can't figure out how to add the additional files/albums etc. I'm probably not using the correct jargon, hopefully what I am looking for will translate though.

PSE does not hold or contain your photos. Yes, you have to import them into the PSE Organizer, using the command File->Get Photos..., but your photos are not stored in PSE. PSE is a database that contains pointers to your photos. Your photos remain on your hard disk, wherever they were put when they came out of the camera.
So, you import your photos into PSE, and then go about creating albums and album categories, as explained here. What you are really doing is creating a grouping of pointers to photos, so that you can recall/locate/search for photos easily. With that concept in mind, the album lets you find your photos from Galapagos/Day 1/Visit 2 easily. That's the point. I don't think having an album category with no photos and albums in that category that show your photos is possible in PSE. (By the way, although you use the word folders and the icon for an album looks like a folder, albums work differently than Windows or Mac folders).

Is there a way to create a group alias that I can text/message?

Similar to an e-mail alias that contains multiple e-mail addresses which makes it easy to send one message to multiple people, I'd like to be able to create a group alias from some set of contacts in my Address Book that I can send a message (either text or iMessage if supported by the recipient) to. Does the iPhone 4 running iOS5 support this and if so, how do I go about using this feature?
Note, I'm not looking for a group chat function where people have run a particular app in order to join a group, I just want to be able to easily send a message to > 1 person and if they want to respond it's directly to me.

You can group your contacts, but you will not be able to send group messages natively. You need a 3rd party application for this. I have developped a free one, Easy Group, to create group of contacts (family, football team), and then send group texts and group emails.

Newbie - Setup Xserve with Mac Os X 10.6 for small group

I already have infrastructure with DNS, DHCP, file storage etc.... I have a small group of users that will use Macs with OS 10.6 and a new Xserve. I only wnt them to autthenticte to OD on Xserve and thats it. And so I can see logs og their logins.. I will use Apple Remote Desktop but I guess will use it on another MaC not on server.
My background Novell Shop and MS mix, with Linux/Unix. I do Zenworks stuff.. So my question... Ho do I use the xserve only for OD authenticatin I ran through the install worksheet and setup my OD. And I have a MAC workstation im testing. I try to login on thta MAc to my OD server with an account I created on Xserve in Workgroup Manager. But when I login on MAC i see my full name then login window shakes and goes back to login window. I created another user account on server and created that account on MAC locally. I can login but I see no record on xserve password logs. When I login with network account that does not have local account on MAC and get the shaky window I see log on Xserver Password log and see authenticaiton.
On mac I setup to join the OD xserve and tahts it. What am I missing??

But I have another question. If there is a user locally on the MAC workstation and they try to login as th enewtork user, same shortname, it doesnt login with network password only local password. I set password on Network to that one on Local. they login but no hit to password service server log? We only want to use the server to Authenticate OD users and thats it. So can you have local user synch up to network? Or am i only stuck with network users and setting as you described?
This is the function of the Search Path. When binding to external domains, OS X will follow a search path defined in Directory Utility. However, DSLocal is always searched first, followed by BSD flat files, then external directories (AD, OD, LDAP, etc). DSLocal is ALWAYS first. This can not be changed. What this means is that if you have a user on the workstation named Bob Smith with a short name of bsmith and a password of letmein and a UID of 502 AND you create a user in the external directory named Bob Smith with a shortname of bsmith and password of hereiam and a UID of 1026, you will never reach the external directory during login. This is because the shortname bsmith will be hit in the DSLocal domain first as it is always the first directory encountered.
The way around this for systems that you are migrating is to delete the user's account plist and the chown the entire home folder. Now, this assumes that a local admin exists at account 501 already. If this is the case, then the bmsith account attributes (/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/bsmith.plist) file can be removed from the machine, effectively "deleting" the account without altering the user's data (/Users/bsmith). Then, if the machine is bound to the domain, all that is required in a chown of the /Users/bsmith folder so the UID value of the external directory account is set (1026).
And again, there seems to be some confusion about OS X and home folder types. Apple supports a lot. They are:
Local account with local home: This is the most common. Take machine out of box and create account. For IT, the local initial admin is this type of account. The user exists in the local domain and the home folder is in /Users.
Mobile (domain) account with cached attributes with local home: This requires are directory domain like AD or OD. For the AD plugin, this is default behavior. For OD it is very common. The machine is bound to a domain and on initial login, the user's account attributes are cached to the machine for offline use. This will create a "permanent" account in System Prefs and the user can use his or her domain credentials when offline. As an added feature using MCX, you can add home folder sync on top of this style.
Mobile (domain) account without cached attributes and network home: This is common in schools and training rooms. The workstations are always on the network so there is no need to cache the account nor do you want to litter the machines with local homes. A net home server is established and then users can freely move from machine to machine. On login, an automount share must be available to the workstation and the user uses domain credentials to access the network home. All data is stored in the central network location allowing for ultimate mobility of user.
Now there are also external homes (homes on external drives), guest accounts and more. But the three above are the most common.

That's not something you can control with iMessage. If you want that kind of control over a group chat, you may want to look at a chat application such as Group Me or Blackberry Messenger. .

Created a group by accident, then left it, how to ...

So I was looking for a way to group contacts. I saw the "Create A Group" button at the bottom and started dragging some contacts into it. What was weird though was that this Group window looks just like a chat window.
Then I figured that "Groups" may refer to "Chat Groups" and not contact groups... Thanks for being so clear, Skype.
Once I had realized this, I tried to dissolve the group. I couldn't remove it - it still appeared in my History. Then I found a button to "leave the group" (or similar), and I did that.
Now, it looks like I did leave the group, but all my other contacts that I added to that group are still in it.
-> I need to dissolve the group and remove all contacts from it. How can I do this?
I tried to rejoin the group - maybe there are more options once I do that - but there's no option anywhere to do that, unless I missed it.
Any help?

Update: I found some related posts that all described the same problem. The suggested solution was to get someone who is in the group to type
/get uri
, then paste that url to you in a separate chat. That would supposedly enable you to rejoin the group.
Well I tried that, but it didn't work. Skype opened the group chat window, and it said "connecting to server, please wait" for a little while, then all the contacts in the group chat list disappeared. So it seems that it locked me out completely after this (since up until this point, I was still able to see the people I had added to the group).
What a mess.
I now asked my friend who was in the group to /kickban all the others from his end, so now I hope that it's resolved.
To the people at Skype: Placing the "Create a group" button right next to the "Add a contact" button is just asking for this sort of trouble. That's the worst placement for this button. It implies that you can create a new contact group with that button, when in fact it opens a new group chat. Every halfway decent UI designer in the world would have noticed this! Jesus.
It's too late for me now, but maybe you'll consider changing this for all your other users.

Actually, my care is Report View,
my report will have Three Summary columns,
one is for 50 records,
second is for data type,
another is for all of records.
I will put the First Summary column behind(below) the last records
So it will look like "Grand total"(for 50 records 1 total).
And the Second Summary column will lay on Group footer(sum data group by data type).
And the last Summary column will lay on every page's bottom(sum all of data).
If I put first summary column in page footer, It will lay on bottom of page, not behind the last records(per fiftieth record).
So I think if I create group1 for 50 records(put in first Summary column on group1 footer) and group2 for data type(put in second Summary column on group2 footer),
then put the last summary column into page footer. Maybe, it will look like what i want.

Private Chat functionality for basic server

Dear all
Firstly i hope this is the best forum for my question.
I've written a basic chat server and client. The server recieves strings messages, and broadcasts them to everyone connected to it. I was wandering, sticking with exchanging Strings over the connection, what ways could I implement a private chat facility so one client could choose to send a message that would only be seen by one chosen user?

I completly agree with you. I had originally used the smack api to create a client that talked with an openfire server, however was told (as i'm doing this to create an experiement for a project) that what i was writing was too 'heavy', as there was no need for using things like rooms and roosters) which to be honest is probably true.
So i went back to just writing a very basic server, with not authentication or security (i don't think i really need security as it will never be used outside of a closed network, and even then it will only be used for short periods of time) that just listens for a connection on serverSocket.accept(), reads from it when there is a message(String) arrives and then broadcast that mesage to all those connected to the server.
I'm not too sure how to progress in setting up the private chat facility without using smack and openfire (as i've been told not too). I'm going to get cracking and start playing around and see what i can come up...
