Creating Table Partitions

Does someone can explain me how to create Table Partition in Designer?
I find nothing in the help content...
thanks
Chris

Hi Uli,
Partitions are not yet defined in the ODI metadata, you could add a step in the DDL procedure generated by CFD that would handle the creation of the partition.
Thanks,
Julien

  • Creating table partitions via Common Format Designer

I am looking for a way to create table partitions via the Common Format Designer in my Models.
As far as I see this is not something that ODI can handle with the out of the box install.
Is this sth that can be added as part of an action or similar?

  • What is the best way to dynamically create table partition by year and month based on a date column?

    Hi,
I have a huge table and it will keep growing. I have a date column in this table and thought of partition the table by year and month. Can any you suggest better approach so that partition will create automatically for new data also along with the existing
data? Nothing but automatically/dynamically partition should create along with file group and partition files.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Dynamically create Table partition

    Hi all,
Anybody having script to add partition to a table using plsql. My requirment is to create partition for every month ( time_id , from time attribute table ) dynamically.
    Thanks in Advance
    Ramesh K C R

Just build you SQL statement to create partition in a VARCHAR2 variable
and use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to run it.
Take care to have been granted directly privileges to run CREATE TABLE, ALTER TABLE (not through a role) or create you code with AUTHID CURRENT_USER clause.

  • Table Partitions Creation

I don't see the option for Table partition, even in Server
Model. Could you please send me complete instructions for
creating a Table partition. That would be of great help. I
did created table partitions manually, tested it onto the
database, did a design capture of the DDL, it worked fine, but
when i re-generated the DDL of the same table using designer,
all the partitions were missing. Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Manish.

Table partitioning is in the "db admin". Have you checked that
the database is 8.0 or 8.1 in the repository property "Oracle
Database" otherwise you won't be able to see the parititioning
properties (if you do change the version property don't forget
    to restart the design editor).

    Exactly 1TB? Slightly under/slightly over?
Traditional Solaris disk labels are in VTOC format, but this format cannot describe disks larger than 1TB. So EFI labels must be used on disks larger than 1TB. Setup is slightly different.
Are these physical disks or LUNs from a SAN array? If they are array LUNS, it is often the case that they don't have a Sun label of any type. So...
    #1 Apply a Solaris label
If the LUNS don't have a label (when selected in 'format', it gives a warning that no label is present and offers to apply a label immediately). When run non-interactively, format assumes "yes" for any questions. So all you'd have to do is select every disk to have it apply labels to any unlabled disk. Run 'format' once and find the highest number (maybe it's 50 for you). Create a text file that looks like this:
    disk 1
    disk 2
    disk 3
disk 50Then feed that to format like this:
    # format -f /tmp/disklist or whatever you've named the file.
#2 Apply the partition layout to all disks you want.
You asked if you should do the same procedure, but I don't see that you've actually done anything above other than print out the existing layout. Take one of your 48 drives and partition it the way you want manually (set the slices to the sizes that you want). Then you can copy the layout of that disk to others. You only want to do this between disks/LUNs of the same size. As an example, if you've explicitly partitioned c1t0d0 and you want to apply this to c1t1d0, do this:
    # prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2Repeat for all of your other disks.

  • How to create a partition table on the basis of substring of column val

    Hi All,
    I have table
    Create table Mytable

    insert into mytable values(16,2,'20110906');
Col3 data have the date value in the form of yyyymmdd format.
I want to create a 30 partitions on the basis of day on col3.
how can i achive this. i tried range partition but how can i get day of col3?
    any help appriciated.
    Edited by: P:) on Sep 28, 2011 5:56 PM

    Hi,
the first point would be to use the correct data type for col3 and make it a date. Then I can see no reason why you couldn't range partition based on the date.

  • What happens to Existing index after table partition and created with local index

    Hi guys,
desc part id  number, name  varchar2(100), salary  number
In an existing table  PART  i am  adding 1 more column DATASEQ NUMBER. i am asked to partition the table part based on dataseq.now the table is created with this logic
    create table part( id  number, name  varchar2(100), salary  number, DATASEQ  number) partition by list(dataseq) (partition PART_INITIAL  values (1));
Suggestionn required. since  the table is partitioned based on DATASEQ i am asked to add local index on dataseq. i have added local index to dataseq create index idx on part(dataseq) LOCAL; Now my question is  already there is existing index is for the column ID and salary.
    1)  IDX for  dataseq is created locally so that it will have partition on each partition on the main table. Please tell me what happens to the existing index on the column ID and salary.. will it again created in local?
    Please suggest

    Hi,
first of all, in reality "partition a table" means create a new table a migrate existing data there (although theoretically you can use dbms_redefinition to partition an existing table -- however, it's just doing the same thing behind the scenes). This means that you also get to decide what to do with the indexes -- which indexes will be local, which will be global (you can also re-evaluate some of existing indexes and decide that they're not really needed).
Second of all, the choice of partitioning key looks odd. Partitioning is a data manageability technique more than anything else, so in order to benefit from it you need to find a good partitioning key. A recently added column named "data_seq" doesn't look like a good candidate. Can you provide more details about this column and why it was chosen as a partitioning key?
I suspect that whoever suggested this partitioning scheme is making a huge mistake. A non-partitioned table is much better in all aspects (including manageability and performance) than wrongly partitioned one.

    Nikolay

  • How to create DB partitioning in active data tables for ods?

    hi all,
Can anyone let me know how to create DB partitioning in active data tables for ods. if any docs pls share with me at my email id : [email protected]

    Haritha,
The following steps will briefly explain you to improve the performance in terms of DB partitioning as well as loading. Please find the same,
    transaction RSCUSTA2,
    oss note 120253 565725 670208
and remove 'bex reporting' setting in ods if that ods not used for reporting.
    hope this helps.

    Symptom
This note contains recommendations for improving the load performance of ODS objects in Business Information Warehouse Release 3.0B and 3.1 Content.
    Other terms
Business Information Warehouse, ODS object, BW, RSCUSTA2, RSADMINA
    Solution
To obtain a good load performance for ODS objects, we recommend that you note the following:
    1. Activating data in the ODS object
In the Implementation Guide in the BW Customizing, you can implement different settings under Business Information Warehouse -> General BW settings -> Settings for the ODS object that will improve performance when you activate data in the ODS object.
    1. Creating SIDs
The creation of SIDs is time-consuming and may be avoided in the following cases:
    a) You should not set the indicator for BEx Reporting if you are only using the ODS object as a data store.Otherwise, SIDs are created for all new characteristic values by setting this indicator.
    b) If you are using line items (for example, document number, time stamp and so on) as characteristics in the ODS object, you should mark these as 'Attribute only' in the characteristics maintenance.
SIDs are created at the same time if parallel activation is activated (see above). They are then created using the same number of parallel processes as those set for the activation. However:if you specify a server group or a special server in the Customizing, these specifications only apply to activation and not the creation of SIDs.The creation of SIDs runs on the application server on which the batch job is also running.
    1. DB partitioning on the table for active data (technical name:
The process of deleting data from the ODS object may be accelerated by partitioning on the database level.Select the characteristic after which you want deletion to occur as a partitioning criterion. For more details on partitioning database tables, see the database documentation (DBMS CD).Partitioning is supported with the following databases:Oracle, DB2/390, Informix.
    1. Indexing
Selection criteria should be used for queries on ODS objects. The existing primary index is used if the key fields are specified. As a result, the characteristic that is accessed more frequently should be left justified. If the key fields are only partially specified in the selection criteria (recognizable in the SQL trace), the query runtime may be optimized by creating additional indexes. You can create these secondary indexes in the ODS object maintenance.
    1. Loading unique data records
If you only load unique data records (that is, data records with a one-time key combination) into the ODS object, the load performance will improve if you set the 'Unique data record' indicator in the ODS object maintenance.
    Hope this helps..
