Creation of object with sub-objects in ADF Faces

I am trying to create an object that has associated sub-objects (header/detail) using ADF Faces. The user enters the header information in an ADF Form, then he creates detail data. Example: If the object is a PO, user creates the PO header info and, in an ADF table, he creates the PO lines.
The problem is I am not able to figure how to bind the ADF table to the object that is being created. In a normal master-detail form, you drag the associated list from the Data Control palette and JDev automatically creates an accessor iterator that "feeds off" the master iterator. But, in this case, the associated list does not appear in the data control palette. Nor am I certain that is the right thing to do, anyway.
Help! This seems like it would be a common pattern.

Sorry. Here is some more information:
1. The project is for tracking duplication jobs requests.
2. Data Model--DocumentTicket and JobDocument objects are EJB 3.0 JPA objects. DocumentTicket has a getter (getJobDocuments) to retrieve a List<JobDocument> of related job documents. JobTicketManager is the session bean that encapsulates most business methods.
3. I am using ADF Faces bindings to "publish" the data model to the GUI.
4. In the GUI, I dragged/dropped the DocumentTicket constructor from the data control palette to create the document ticket. This created the appropriate method action bindings, as well as the DocumentTicketIter iterator to iterate over the constructor result.
5. Of course, the user also needs to specify the related job documents. In the GUI, I would like to have an ADF table that displays the current job documents, and a button labeled "Add Document" that is wired to a pop-up dialog. The idea is that the user clicks on the "Add Document" button, enters the information about the new JobDocument object. The object is then created and the table is updated with a new row. The table is also used to manipulate the list of job documents (chiefly, it allows the user to change their listed order).
Step 5 is where I am having trouble. I can see how to create the pop-up dialog, how to wire it to the JobDocument constructor, how to update the data model. The problem is: I do not know to which object I should wire the JobDocument table. Logically, I should be able to wire it to the jobDocumentList property. However, that is not displayed in the data control palette under the constructor results (it is displayed elsewhere; for example, under the result of the findAllDocumentTickets method).
I suppose I could create a separate finder method in the session bean, but then how do I connect it to the object being constructed (i.e., to the JobDocumentIter iterator)?
Either I am missing something here or I am hitting some limitation of the ADF binding framework.

  • Creation of Asset with Sub-number

    Hi Gurus,
    Would like to ask for your expert advice regarding the creation of Asset using Sub-numbers.
    We have seversal assets where expenses and depreciation will be divided into different cost centers. We are planning to use asset subnumber for easier monitoring of related assets but we are a little bit undecided because we do not know if there are any disadvantages of using asset sub numbers.
    Is it advisable to use asset sub-number? What are the things that we need to consider if in case we will use asset subnumber in creating our assets.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Ellicec

    Hi Madhu,
    I tried to create an asset in AS01 and afterwards create subnumbers ( Subnumbers 1-3 ) for that asset in AS11. But it seems that I cannot edit the field of the assets with subnumbers. It copies the same data as that of the one created in AS01  ( subnumber 0 ).
    I also tried to run depreciation in AFAB but only the main asset was depreciated. The sub assets were not depreciated.
    Kindly advise the steps to correctly execute this.
    Thanks,

    There is no such document for (1) because we are in the process of delivering design time support for ADF BC integration with ADF Faces, as you mentioned.
    Therefore, you could either continue with ADF UIX, ADFm, ADF BC for the time being, or else try out ADF Faces with session scope Managed Beans. In either case, you'll want to convert this later on, when JDev 10.1.3 completes its support for ADF Faces / ADF BC drag-and-drop integration.
    Kind Regards.

  • ER - Problem with ADF Faces filter when running ADF Faces within a portlet

    I am attempting to get ADF Faces to run within Oracle Portal, i.e. within a portlet using the JPDK.
    This, I am sure you are about to tell me, is not something that is fully supported, as yet.
    However, I have been successful in getting MyFaces to run within a portlet, by customizing the form tag.
    MyFaces, it seems, keeps track of the current viewid by storing it in the session, then uses this within the viewhandler and navigationhandler to determine the next view to load, based on the faces-config.xml navigation entries.
    By customizing the form tag it is then possible to retrieve this viewid from the faces context and outputting it in the form's action parameter.
    It is also possible, with a few more customizations, to run JSF RI within a portlet, i.e. by adding a custom viewhandler and loading a session variable with the current viewid from the faces context, then retrieving the viewid and outputting it as the action string in the customized form tag .
    Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way of getting ADF Faces (EA19 version) to run as a portlet, with either the RI or with MyFaces.
    I have configured a basic .jspx document in the <showPage> tags of the provider.xml file.
    This uses only the form tag and a few input tags and works when executed directly within my portlet project in JDeveloper (http://localhost:8988/TestJSFAppContext/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx) using a redirectfilter (*.jspx htdocs -> /faces/htdocs).
    It is not possible to run ADF Faces with RI as a portlet since customization of the ADF Faces ViewHandler appears not to be supported.
    When attempting to run this with MyFaces as a portlet, however, I get the following message:
    oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilterImpl verifyFilterIsInstalled
    WARNING: The AdfFacesFilter has not been installed. ADF Faces requires this filter for proper execution.
    I am having difficulty in understanding as to why this is happening but am guessing it must be something to do with either redirect URLs or due to the .jspx files being under /htdocs, i.e. the ADF Faces renderkit is checking that the ADF Faces filter is configured but the check fails since the filter does not execute.
    I have configured the filter in web.xml, as detailed in the documentation:
      <filter>
        <filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
        <filter-class>oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter</filter-class>
      </filter>
      <filter-mapping>
        <filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
      </filter-mapping>
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
      </servlet>
      <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
      </servlet-mapping>and have modified the provider.xml file as follows:-
          <renderer class="oracle.portal.provider.v2.render.RenderManager">
             <renderContainer>true</renderContainer>
             <renderCustomize>true</renderCustomize>
             <autoRedirect>true</autoRedirect>
             <contentType>text/html</contentType>
      <showPage>/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx</showPage>
             <editPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditPage.jsp</editPage>
             <editDefaultsPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditDefaultsPage.jsp</editDefaultsPage>
          </renderer>with the following tags also set:
       <session>true</session>
       <passAllUrlParams>true</passAllUrlParams>In order to ensure that the session stays alive so that the views are retrieved.
    As I say, the page loads OK when run directly within the JPDK project within JDeveloper, with a redirect filter (*.jspx -> /faces/*.jspx) but not when run from within Oracle Portal.
    In fact I have found that this filter is very sensitive, i.e. ADF Faces will not run in any project unless the configuration is exactly as above.
    It seems that the MyFaces team have got around the problem of maintaining session state with redirections but that ADF Faces needs the page URL that is passed in to the filter to be consistent.
    Is there some way around this, i.e. some kind of customization that I can implement to get the filter working?
    Thnks

    I have found a way to go round the problem.
    I use the servlet 2.4/jsp 2.0 route and then
    change the web.xml header to the servlet 2.3/jsp 1.2
    format. Everything then works fine after this!
    Please fix this for production.

  • ADF Faces with NetBeans Visual Pack

    Hello all,
    I have NetBeans 5.5.1 installed with the Visual Pack and I am looking to try out other libraries with it, in particular ADF Faces from Oracle.
    Does anyone know how to import the components into the NetBeans Visual Pack? They download from oracle as[b] adf-faces-impl-10_1_3_0_4.jar and not as a complib extension, which NetBeans prefers.
    Please if anyones has any experience with getting this to work let me know. Or if you think it can't work let me know as well?
    Hoping to hear from someone soon. Thanks in advance.

    Hello again,
    Anyone out there using ADF faces with NetBeans Visual Pack who can give some feedback?
    I want to be able to use the drag and drop capabilities of the Visual Pack with the ADF faces components, but I don't see how to configure this as they do not come pre-configured as a complib extension.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards.

  • Creating adf-Faces portlets without using IFrame

    Is there a way we can create portlets with adf-faces that will display inline instead of IFrame? I have been experimenting with portlets creation and the only time the portlet will be rendered inline is when you choose the "generate JSP" at step 3 of the portlet creation wizard. If i select "generate ADF-Faces JSPX" the portlet will be rendered in a IFrame.

    Answer is very easy... You can't!
    The problem is that there will be conflicts between the ADF context of the portlet and the portal. That's why every ADF portlet is rendered by using an iframe. Oracle says they are changing this but it can be a while. Perhaps for this year, maybe later... So currently you can't realy do anything about it...

  • Tutorial on ADF Faces/Toplink

    I'm in the process of evaluating JDev 10.1.3, with particular focus on ADF Faces. I'm not seeing some simple examples that combine the use of ADF Faces and Toplink, and my ignorant attempts to combine the two have resulted only in frustration. • Support for ADF Faces

    Hi Everyone,
    We are planing to use ADF Facses for our upcoming prjoject. so for that we want some sample application or demonstration because the list of component is available in the oracle site is not very rich may be not updated, how can i get detail information about ADF Faces.
    How to get latest trial version of ADF Faces and how to configure ADF with MYEclipse
    Thanks
    Meraj

    Meraj,
    ADF Faces components are as they show in the JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 component palette. The Apache MyFaces open source project Trinidad contains new components that will be in JDeveloper 11. Note that unlike other vendors, Oracle doesn't make trial versions available but always the full version (we don't mind developers using our stack for longer than 30 days ;-) ).
    To configure ADF Faces in Eclipse, just make sure you have MyFaces or JSF-RI installed in Eclipse and adf-faces-api.jar and adf-faces-impl.jar configured for ADF face. The adf-faces-impl.jar fiel contains the tag libraries

  • JDEV 10.1.3: Using "Create" binding on BC view object with ADF Faces Table

    Hello,
    I am trying to get this to work, but to no avail:
    I've got a very simple page (ADF Faces - JSPX) created by dragging an iterator from the data control pallete on to my page and picking "ADF Table..." as my chose to create. This creates a table on my page that allows me to edit each row in place. Very nice.
    Now, I dragged the create operation for that iterator on to the page. What I had hoped to see is that when I click "Create," a new blank row appears in my table (well, at least a row that is blank except for any default values specified in the EO/VO and my overriden create() method).
    However, this doesn't happen. The page submits and refreshes, but no blank row shows up. I initially tried setting the Create button to do partial submit and setting the partialtriggers for the table to include the Create button, to no avail. I also tried it without the partial submit with the same results.
    So:
    1). Should this work, or is this behavior a bug.?
    2). If not, is there a different/better way of doing it?
    Regards,
    John

    G'day John
    I think I can give you a hint of what is occuring... I'm still trying to work out what is happening exactly.
    In JDev 10.1.2 UIX, when the user invoked the create action, they would see the blank record added to the underlying table. Under 10.1.3 Faces the functionality is somewhat different.
    When you the user clicks on the create action a blank record is created but not shown in the table control. To prove the blank record is there try this:
    1) Build an ADF Input Form based on the same VO iterator
    2) In your JSF navigation, create a navigation case between the existing page and the new page, and another back again,
    3) In the existing page, map the Create button's action attribute to navigate to the ADF Input Form
    4) In the ADF Input Form, map the Submit button's action attribute to navigate to the ADF Table page.
    Now when you run your app, notice when you create a new record in the ADF Table which automatically takes you to the ADF Input Form, note the blank record, and the details you enter into the record here and submit, are then visible in the ADF Table on the return.
    This is a long way of proving that the new record is in the table. It's just you can't see it.
    I have a theory which I'm trawling through the newly updated documentation to verify. This issues goes back to the VO createRow vs insertRow method calls that have been documented by Steve Muench a couple of times. I'm guessing the table control is now smarter and doesn't show createRow records, only insertRow records.
    Read one of Steve's posts here regards the createRow vs insertRow method calls:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/blankrow/index.html
    If I find anymore info I'll endeavour to post it.
    Meanwhile this of course doesn't help you if you actually want to show the blank row in the ADF Table editable control, but I'd thought I'd give you an idea of what's happening behind the scenes.
    Hope this helps.
    CM.

  • Error in Creation of Object ID 00000000 is not allowed

    Hi all,
    When I am Hiring an employee using PA40, I am getting an error as "Creation of Object ID 00000000 is not allowed", when I save it.
    In the NUMKR Feature, the return value has been assigned to the Personnel Sub Area.
    Pls. can anybody explain, how can I solve this problem.
    This is urgent requirement of client.
    Thanks,
    HR User.

    Hi Hr user
    Now listen carefully.
    1. If you have defined your feature NUMKR according to PSA then while running hiring action does PSA comes or it just gives you the Position, PA, EG and ESG fileds only.
    2. If the first condition is true then you will get the error, now the question is why
    Answer, you have defined the feature through PSA and once you try to save the IT0000 there is no PSA mentioned there thats why the system gives you the error.
    If this explnanation is understood by you than reply , i will tell you how you can bring the PSA field also in hiring action at IT0000.
    Do reply

  • Populate BAM data object through adf form.

    I want to populate a BAM data object using adf form as we do in case of database table by creating a data control. How to do this?

    Hi Simanta
    1. I am seeing lot of posts from you regarding this Java to BAM Data Objects integration.
    2. What exactly are you trying to do. Dataobjects are very tightly coupled with actual Database component that is used to create that like Table or View etc.
    3. Best way is. Create a data object. Export that DataObject using "icommand". See docs for this command usage.It generate a pure .XML file with all the details like DataObject name, external referenced Database details (datasource name), external Table or View details. Then mapping for EACH column on this object and that database stuff. Just see the xml file, Its pretty straight forward. When you Export Reports also, it creates an XML File exactly like this only but with more details like all column Formatting information etc etc. Export one Report also and see that xml 4. file.
    4. Both above XML Files are stored in ORABAM Schema. Tables of interest are :SysIterDataset, SysIterParameter, SysIterParameterValue, SysIterReport etc.
    5. Oracle do NOT expose any Public APIs to handle above stuff. But if you really really want, you can always manipulate XML content and reload to those columns any time. Need to add few query parameters to get exact row like ReportId, or DataObject Id which are just PKs etc.
    Still, I am curious why and what is the usecase where you want to do all this from Java code. Because DataObject is a one time thing. And note that it is used in Report. So if you modify data object like remove a column, then Report will die.
    By the way, all the WebServices exposed may be for ReadOnly purposes. I am not sure if you have services to modify them.
    Thanks

  • Dynamic view names in view objects (adf faces bc 10g)...

    I have written an application in adf faces and business components, but would like to be able to add sections to it by simply creating a database view, say with standard names and a suffix, and probably static number of columns (just a read only view). i can handle the front end and logic, but can't see a way to parametise the view names & columns in business component's view objects. I can do things like create a load of dummy views with 10 cols in say selecting 0 from dual then chuck them in the model, which is messy, but would work... Just wondering if there is a cleaner way i can achieve this through the model or any other method, so any ideas that could point me in the right direction would be useful.
    Thanks in advance...
    Tim.

    Hi,
    you may want to investigate into dynamic ViewObjects or dynamicaly adding attributes like example 9 and 29 of http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html

  • How can I trace creation of objects?

    I am wondering how I can trace creation of objects with new. For example:
    interface CreationListener {
        void objectCreated(Object o);
    class CreationNotifier {
        static void registerCreationListener(Class cls, CreationListener listener) {
            // registers `listener' to be notified after creating any object of class `cls'
    class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            CreationNotifier.registerCreationListener(Integer.class, new CreationListener() {
                public void objectCreated(Object o) {
                    System.out.println("Created Integer " + ((Integer)o).intValue());
            new Integer(2);  // Now I would expect to see `Created Integer 2' on my console...
    }In other ways I want to get informed about every object of the specified class that gets created
    throughout the application.
    Does anyone have an idea about it? I was trying to find something appropriate in SecurityManager
    but I failed :(
    Please help!

    I think you did not understand exactly what I meant. Your solution is only good for classes written by
    me and I wanted to catch all object constructions in any class, e.g. one that I have only in a binary form.
    Maybe Hashtable is
    not the right data structure but I got to go back to
    work :-) Let me know if you come up with a better
    implementation.
    -- Niladri.I created a WeakHashSet class on top of WeakHashMap which uses one static object as a value and really cares only about the keys. In the registrating class I have a HashMap with keys of type Class and values of WeakHashSet. The register method is simple:
    public void register(Object o) {
        if (o == null) return;
        if (!map.containsKey(o.getClass()))    // this is the first object of this class being registered
            map.put(o.getClass(), new WeakHashSet());
        ((WeakHashSet)map.get(o.getClass())).add(o);    // WeakHashSet implements Set interface
    }This design ensures (because of using WeakHashMap) that I only have live objects in my structure after running GC (in fact, I call System.gc() in methods to find the live objects of a specific class).
    As you can see, my only problem is to have the object registration automate for classes that I have not written (and do not have sources).
    And using the profiler is not portable (as I guess) - in examples for JProbe they used DLL's and UNIX shared objects. And that requires unusual switches when starting JVM. I would like to have an all-Java language solution as the code fragments which I have described come from a library which I am writing now and I should not make the users of it depend on switches or dynamic libraries...
    Anyway, thanks for your good will. :-)

    My Declaration
    +merOffActDataXML      xmltype;
    merOffActData     MER_OFFER_ACTION_DATA := MER_OFFER_ACTION_DATA(MER_OFFER_ACT_DATA_t());+
    Inside Pl/SQL block
    +-- Converts XML data into user defined type for further processing of data
    xmltype.toobject(merOffActDataXML,merOffActData);+
    when I run the Pl/Sql block it gives me error
    ORA-19031: XML element or attribute FORM_ID does not match any in type ORADBA.MER_OFFER_ACTION_DATA
    which means the object type mapping is wrong
    I would like to know whether the object type I had created is correct or not.
